After reading the AIBU thread about potty training, I thought, I'll start a support thread.
I'm about to start training this week with the help of my mum Blush and DS not at nursery.
Who care to join me to share (and not judge) our experiences and successes?

Yarp. I hear ya. No need to worry about constipation anymore here. Day 6 after four days no proper poo. DS had two more smallish smear/poo (Smoo?) combos then actual poo in pants.

Not sure how to get him to poo on loo/ potty. With both he's very keen to get off quickly. and before he goes into a separate room to poo in his nappy. Have tried leaving him to it on the loo with a book but he soon gets fed up.

Maybe in front of tv on potty? He's quite tall so it's not that comfy...

Whenisitmysleepytime · 05/08/2011 20:16

well we had half a wee in the potty this morning.
then nap with a nappy on. he then woke up an tantrumed till dh got home at 4! Angry he was then quite happy to take off the now soaking nappy and has done 3 wees in the potty! :)
my carpet has survived today.

no poos today so we'll see what tomorrow brings.

i was going to quit but as we've had some success i'll carry on but i am not loving it! spending the day on high alert is rubbish!

Pelvicflooragogo · 06/08/2011 11:39

I know it's exhausting and revolting isn't it? Couldn't rid my hand of the smell of poo yesterday [sick emoticon] despite multiple washings - very Lady Macbeth!

Mummystootired · 06/08/2011 19:01

Can I join? I'm thinking of starting potty training but I haven't got round to buying loads of pants yet for dd so I guess till I do that I will just be trying her on the potty now and again.(she still wears pull ups).

Dysgu the sticker chart is a good idea.

I just got yoghurt smeared all over me by dd. great, more washing to do!
How is everyone getting on?

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 06/08/2011 19:40

Today we managed a poo on the bathroom floor - right room at least!

Wees he is perfect naked, and today he's been in pants a lot but hasn't wet himself. And he pulled his shorts and pants down of his own accord and sat on his potty earlier - definite progress!!! Grin

feralgirl · 06/08/2011 21:36

Grin at Lady Macbeth and "out damn poo".

DS woke up this morning and the first thing he did was tell me to take his nappy off and put some pants on him. The second thing he did was to take the pants off and wee in his trouser drawer and then, while I was busy cleaning that up, he weed on the plug socket Shock Shock

He has redeemed himself this evening though by standing up and weeing into the loo like a MAN! I was absolutely blown away and sooo close to taking a photo and putting it as my FB profile pic.

I am totally unprepared with stickers and chocolate buttons so I am going to have to get more organised tomorrow in order to capitalise on this breakthrough. DS won't have anything to do with the potty so maybe he needs to just bypass it and get on with using the loo.

Tomorrow: pooing.

Mummystootired · 07/08/2011 13:02

Just been out to buy pants so I guess we will give it a go after lunch. Better get my carpet cleaning products ready!

feralgirl · 07/08/2011 18:52

Two more wees in the loo today but a poo in the nappy that he insisted on wearing at nap time and a wee on the floor of a toy shop where everything was much more interesting than weeing in the right place.

This is going better than I could have dared hope!

MetalSian · 07/08/2011 19:14

I am aiming to start tomorrow...

Have stacked up on pants and have chocolate stars.
Think it will be bare bottom as DS is quite happy to wee in pants and not even care xD.
Will be using toilet seat though as he hates the potty =/, can't get him on it with a bare bum.

Whenisitmysleepytime · 07/08/2011 20:39

we've turned the corner today! more successes than failures!:)
dry night nappy, followed by wee in potty.
post breakfast wee in potty.
2 accidents while he was engrossed in playdoh
dry nap (was sure he had empty bladder so may be cheating)
partial accident just before we went out
trip round shops with no incidents
post dinner wee and POO!!! (first potty poo)

i did my best excited wow face about the poo but it was SO grim!

still reminding him constantly and catching wee/ poo signs so he's not doing it solo but definate progress.

Mummystootired · 07/08/2011 20:52

Grin well done!

We are going to try tomorrow.

Pelvicflooragogo · 08/08/2011 18:18

That's great news! Still waiting for our first potty/loo poo.

In fact I'm feeling a bit down about it all - just exhausting being on high alert all the time. It's not like I'm constantly asking him but now he's not interested in going to the loo and has even started kicking off in a big way when we're out and about. And then has an accident - so difficult not to be annoyed about it.

I've tried choc buttons but he doesn't seem that bothered. I think I'll try a sticker chart instead. Not sure how long to give it a go for before going back to nappies for a while. Any thoughts?

Mummystootired · 08/08/2011 19:29

Its frustrating isn't it! We had no luck today (1st day ). Tried her this morning in pants, nothing, then put nappy on to go out for afternoon, she weed in it.
came home put pants on again, she kept taking them off, no wee or poo,no wet pants. put nappy on at bedtime does a wee. Hope shes not scared of potty or something.

MetalSian · 08/08/2011 19:49

So last night I just let him have some time with the nappy off and sitting on the potty... which he is now suddenly happy to do with his nappy off, with no wees or poos.
But we think he may have worms =/, so gave him a tablet today and thought I would put it off for a few days.

However with a nappy on half an hour ago he said 'wee wee', brought his potty over and was pulling at his nappy, so I took it off and let him sit on it.... and he did a weeeee.

I know it is sad to be this excited but I have been waiting for him to show he wanted to do it, so now I have no excuse not to potty train him xD.
He got a chocolate star and loads of praise!

feralgirl · 08/08/2011 20:03

Well done MetalSian's DS. It is definitely not sad to be this excited. I can barely contain myself when DS pees in the loo.

Pelvicfloor, we're doing stickers and DS has caught on dead quick, to the point where he's standing over the loo straining to get a wee out in order to get a sticker! He's still to have a poo success though, and he hasn't had a poo all day today which means that there is bound to be some horrible explosion tomorrow!

bangorbelle · 08/08/2011 20:38

Hiya, can I join in too? Just started today with DS who is 2 and a half. He did really well, much better than I had expected.

He only had 3 accidents the whole day and they were all in the evening, when he was getting tired (he no longer naps during the day). All other wee's and one poo went in the potty. I started off by putting him on the potty every 15 mins where he would sit for 5- 10 mins and look at a book or watch a bit of tv and if he performed, he got a smartie and lots of praise!

Hoping he starts telling me when he needs to go or just taking himself in the next week Smile.

Mummystootired · 09/08/2011 08:30

Hi bangorbelle, Here we go with day 2.
So far dd done poo in nappy. I will be putting her in pants soon.
Hope we have better luck today!

Whenisitmysleepytime · 09/08/2011 08:38

Well yesterday was great!
Only one accident which was a wee in his potty but he forgot to take his pants off and me and my mum were distracted by dd. So we only used a nappy at night time!!!! Grin he even told me just as I was puting him to bed that he needed a wee despite having a nappy on!

That was day 4 or 6 depending on whether or not I include the first two days using the potty that squished his bits! Confused

I tried stickers but ds lost interest quickly. Cheap ikea chocolates do the trick tho! :)
He's stopped mentioning them for all wees tho so I'm easing off unless it's a poo.

Feeling so pleased but still have lots to do do I don't nag so much and as for weeing standing up...... Hmm

Whenisitmysleepytime · 09/08/2011 08:39

Sorry meant to add well done to all those having successes- no matter how small! :)

bangorbelle · 09/08/2011 10:33

Morning all, day 2 here also Smile. So far we have had 3 wee's in the potty, one of those times he took himself without being reminded by me, only he forgot to take his pants down! Grin. Luckily, I was able to help him get them down before he wet them. How's every one else getting on today? Smile.

feralgirl · 09/08/2011 15:30

Agh, regression! We're having work done on the house so couldn't get to the bathroom this morning, plus lots of strange people all coming and going has obviously unnerved poor DS who hasn't managed to get any wee or poo in the right place today. He is much more upset about it than I am Sad

Whenisitmysleepytime · 09/08/2011 15:51

Yes regression here too!
A wee without pants down, a wee without him noticing ad a pop that granny didn't hear him shout for while I was changing dd.
On the up side I've nagged less and he had a dry nap with a full bladder and big boy pants. And he's been heading in the right direction each time.

Is it a good idea to nag or does it drive them mad?

MetalSian · 09/08/2011 16:10

We had a few accidents today, but only wee.
Then a mahooosive poo on the potty for the first time =].

I am hoping things keep going this way... still don't want to poo in the pants episodes though =/ xD

Dysgu · 10/08/2011 09:47

We continue - but gosh, every day it seems as though I am getting closer to just giving up! I'm not going to as I think we are doing okay! It is certainly harder to do this with DD2 than with DD1 - although DD1 is still really helpful: yesterday she was sitting on a potty herself to encourage DD2 to use hers! It seemed to work most times.

The sticker chart is working well - at least it helps to keep track of the success which can be useful when there seem to be more accidents along the way! We use different sized stickers - tiny ones for sitting nicely up to big ones for a poo. It worked with DD1 two years ago and, TBH, they probably get too much chocolate from Nanna anyway so stickers are a treat in themselves.

The hardest bit is when we go out - I want to keep her in knickers the whole time but sometimes it gets a bit much after the second or third accident whilst out! Other times she does really well, so we ARE going to keep going. after all, it has only been 8 days...

Good luck and well done to everyone else - it is helpful to know that others are going through this too!

Mummystootired · 10/08/2011 10:06

Hi all, I must admit I gave up for a day yesterday as I wasn't feeling great.
Better today, So I'm starting again (day 3). Have put dd in pants, nothing to report yet.
Hope everyone else is doing o.k.
