After reading the AIBU thread about potty training, I thought, I'll start a support thread.
I'm about to start training this week with the help of my mum Blush and DS not at nursery.
Who care to join me to share (and not judge) our experiences and successes?

I'm thinking of it with The Cub but dread his fathers reaction to accidents. Mr Tigga being a neat freak and all.

Back to square one here so am going to try more with her tomorrow.

SurelyNotMe · 14/08/2011 23:04

Well no accidents today, yay! DDs nappy was dry this morning and she had a huge wee as soon as she got up. So, we seem to have sorted wees.

Poos.....well since the day 1 'accidents' she has been withholding (now on day 5). She really was trying though, but got scared when it was about to come out!. She managed a teeny poo on the potty (much cheering/ singing/ chocolate buttons) but there must still be loads up there. She is clearly uncomfy, it makes me quite fed up, she surely can't hold it in much longer. She's at her gran's tomorrow though :)

Dysgu · 15/08/2011 12:06

Gosh - what a morning we have had. DD2 was up before 6am asking us to change her nappy as she had done a wee!

Later on she did another wee on the potty.

Since then I have practically had to clean up in every room of the house - as well as the garden (decking!) Honestly, I think we are running at about 6 wees and 1 poo! When I ask her why - she just says she wants to wee in her pants!

Eventually I told her it was making me sad - we were sitting on the wooden floor in the living room, making a cardboard Noah's Ark with both DDs (don't ask! Give from Grandad!) DD2 did a wee on some of the cardboard stands! I know I should not have had it there - I have been really good about keeping the floors clear so make mopping up easy - but aaaaagh!

She is now running around in only a t-shirt but we have to go out soon.

I did consider putting her in a pull-up but WILL NOT DO IT (tell-myself-off-and keep-going emoticon!)

Just a wee update from me too Smile. Was just about ready to throw in the towel on Thursday night (day 4) as ds seemed to be getting worse with accidents and refusing to sit on the potty when I asked him. I also got a rather patronising message on fb from an old aquaintance berating me for attempting to potty train him at 2.6, as he is much to young and I should wait until is 3! Angry. I have not seen this person for a good few years and she has never seen my ds!

Anyhoo, got up on Friday and DS asked for the potty right away, producing a big wee! Since then he has either asked to go or just taken himself to the potty and have not had a single accident since Thursday! Am so pleased he has got the hang of it and great to hear that many of your dc's are also getting on well with potty training Smile.

Dysgu · 15/08/2011 13:03

Have just done 'the happy dance' as DD2 took herself to potty for a wee - maybe we are back on track!?

Whenisitmysleepytime · 15/08/2011 14:09

Well done to all! :)
We've had a good couple of days too. No accidents yesterday and only one so far today. However we were out all morning at a big animal farm/ park and I forgot to nag ds. He was far too busy having fun to remember on his own so we had a wet pair of shorts etc. However after lunch he did wee when I asked as we were about to go home. :) he's sleeping now so hoping for another dry nap and a bit more independence.

Canistaysane · 15/08/2011 14:47

My dd has been in pants since about 10.00am and still hasn't done wee yet.
I wonder if she wants to but is holding it in?Hmm
No success yet as for wees or poos on potty.
Well done everyone else!Smile

Canistaysane · 15/08/2011 18:16

Just an update she has done 2 pairs of wet pants still not asking or telling me in time........any advice anyone?

Pelvicflooragogo · 15/08/2011 20:17

Thanks feralgirl stickers have worked a treat eventually. We are on day 15 and have had one accident (slurry-filled pants bluerrgh) in three days. It doesn't work him asking us to go - we just needed to be firmer about taking him. So now I'm doing it roughly every two hours and after each meal and I'm really chuffed. Finally cracked (a ha haaa) the poos on the loo - making giant fanfare each time - and he's even done one on the potty and a playfarm today. Deeelighted Grin - and he always says "Daddy will be so happy with me!"

So boy's trip to the sweetie shop as reward for filling his Thomas sticker chart. The question is - how long do we persist with the chart?

I'm going to leave night-time until we've really sorted days and removed the sides from his cot-bed. World of mayhem!

Whenisitmysleepytime · 15/08/2011 20:27

Rest of day was good! :) all done independently including a pop and a wee in the big loo!

canistaysane we had no success all day on day 1 and 2 and nothing till late afternoon in day 3. That was ds in pants only except for nap time. Think it took him a little while to click that he was doing the wees and what he had to do about them. What day are you on?

Canistaysane · 15/08/2011 22:13

We are on day 8. today we had 3 pairs of wet pants. I think I need to keep trying as it's so easy too give up. Do you put them in nappies if you go out?
I'm starting to get bored at home but I feel when you are potty training it's hard to go anywhere.

Pelvicflooragogo · 15/08/2011 22:52

No - have gone cold turkey (if that's not a horrid image with DS's...) and no nappies apart from night-time. No problems at all with naps thankfully. And I think you have to keep going out but do make them come with you to the loo every couple of hours - threaten removal of treat etc. Otherwise you go mad too!!

mdavza · 16/08/2011 04:43

Can I join?
I'm on day 5 of my DS's potty training and at times it surely is driving me potty! He is 2,5 and he started telling me when he did a wee/poo, so I decided to go for it. Before we started he spent about 2 weeks in training pants, and I started taking him to the loo on occasion, with good wee results.

So here is a summary:
Day 1: Quite a few wees on the toilet (with a Spongebob toilet seat which he likes) and some wees on the floor/pants. I tried stickers but he is not moved by it, but likes the chocolate raisins. No poo today.
Day 2: Had to go to the shop and he weed twice, once on the floor and once on the way out. That was quite stressful! But again quite a few successes on the potty. I take him - whether he agrees or not - and make a big fuss if he produces something. He pooed in the swimming pool, luckily in closed pants, phew! Dry nap. I put disposable matress pads underneath him.

Day 3: Dry nap, lots of toilet wee successes, a few misses. Running out of pants! Poo in pants, but I caught him and he completed it on the potty.
Day 4: More wees on potty than on floor, and we went out in the pm and he peed on his potty. He is seemingly starting to realise that he can hold it in. Pooed outside, in his pants, and I'm starting to feel a bit anxious about this. Dry nap.
Day 5: He is definitely getting the hang of the potty/toilet although I still need to take him, sometimes against his will. Have noticed that he starts hanging around potty if he wants to go. This afternoon I was close to giving up: after his nap (it was a wet one) I decided not to go out because I was waiting for him to poo, which usually happens after his nap. No luck, and then I got massively frustrated, he threw a major tantrum, and I just wanted to give up. I went out and my Dh said that he saked to go on the loo before going to the bath!! SLOW progress.

I guess he's picking up on my anxiety about wanting him to pee/poo in the right place and I wish I could just relax about it a bit more. Unfortunately we don't have a back garden that he can run around naked in - I think that's the ideal!
I'm stressing about the poos, because from a small age he's always taken himself off somewhere to do a poo on his own. But will keep you posted...

Canistaysane · 16/08/2011 16:53

just had our first wee on potty at lastGrin. I was on the verge of giving up but I suppose it just shows you you have to persevere.

bangorbelle · 16/08/2011 19:26

yay for you and your dd canistaysane!
My ds was taken out by his grandparents today (dh's parents) as they do every Tuesday and they brought him back in a nappy even though he had no accidents! Hmm Confused. Can anyone explain that one?!

feralgirl · 17/08/2011 17:45

Bangorbelle maybe for the same reason that nursery returned DS to me in a nappy last week? Hmm

Had a great day yesterday with only one accident and a poo in the potty for the first time (cue fanfares, stickers and half a packet of choc buttons!) We've been out lots today though so had lots of accidents and no successes at all Sad

Definitely a case of two steps forward, one step back.

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 18/08/2011 16:18

I think we have cracked it. Independent poos in the potty when we're at home, plus taking himself when we were out at a friend's today. He hasn't worn a pull up except for a long car journey in over a week and we've only had one accident.

Hurrah! :)

feralgirl · 19/08/2011 11:09

Wow, well done Alibaba and DS.

My DS pooed in the bath last night after about an hour of running around clutching his bum with me asking him if he needs a potty and him shouting "No!" at the top of his voice.

He did wee in the potty this morning though. Then poohed in his pants Sad but that was because DH wasn't paying attention Angry

feralgirl · 21/08/2011 20:44

Had no poos since Friday and then DS spent an hour this evening howling and clutching and getting himself in a terrible state before producing more poo than I thought could be possible for someone of his size.

I don't understand why he's getting so dreadfully worked up about it, we've been very calm and relaxed and not made a big deal about accidents, and he's pretty good at weeing but he's only pooing every other day - despite being a regular 2-a-day-pooer since he was tiny - and then it takes an hour of him crying his eyes out and getting really upset Sad before it comes out.

And it's completely upsetting his evening routine because it generally all kicks off at dinner time so he then doesn't eat and ends up going to bed really late. He refuses to poo in the loo or in a potty and asks for a nappy and then gets really upset about pooing in that as well. I just don't know what to do; anyone got any ideas please?!

Pelvicflooragogo · 23/08/2011 20:54

Hey feral have you seen there's a thread about how to get them to poo in the potty or loo - eg nappy in potty? He'll get the hang of it - my DS did something similar but has gradually got over it with liberal use of sticker charts followed by trips to sweetie shop for completed chart.

We're getting there here but he's still not very good at volunteering the information - more like we have to tell him to go and he may or may not produce anything when we get there. Wonder how long this phase will last. But all clean from nursery today - a promise that both DH and I would read him a story tonight helped too - big fuss made all round and great nursery worker just making sure she took him all the time.

Canistaysane · 23/08/2011 21:32

We are still trying but no real success yet.

Ivortheengine8 · 23/08/2011 21:36

We just started. She did a wee a week or so in DH's shoe (which he doesnt know about Grin) and she has had a cheap potty for a while that she sits on from time to time. She did a wee in her potty yesterday though for the first time!
Today we went to buy a toilet seat .....we got home and put it on the toilet.
I go to the kitchen and come back to find her weeking through the toilet seat onto the floor in the lounge! - slightly confused I think!

feralgirl · 24/08/2011 12:21

Grin @ the toilet seat ivor, at least she'll use the loo seat, my DS goes berserk when he sees ours!

Thank pelvicfloor, I am on that thread too and we are building up to the lining the potty with a nappy thing. He is so good at weeing, he's really got the hang of using hedges when we're out as well He actually asked me to stop the car so he could go in the hedge yesterday and then held on until I was able to pull over Grin

Ivortheengine8 · 24/08/2011 19:20

Grin Thats what hedges are for!
Havent got much further today really, she has peed at least 5 times on the floor and I don't think once properly in the potty :(
