Rubena · 14/07/2010 09:51

yeah I just changed another bad nappy and he was shaking and screaming. Seems ok when I don't touch it and after I smother him in cream but going to walk over and get some of that yellow cream today.
Vag - yeah to be fair, he wants me to, and keeps pushing me to go to the GP and said I should go this arvy and he will look after ds but I know he is supposed to be working in London this arvy and isn't supposed to miss it but he's probably worried after my total psychotic meltdown this morning. I'm feeling better about it all now that I know what's wrong with ds, and I don't fancy a sit and wait at the GP so might just make an appointment after I speak to mil about when she can come over. I have one final M/W appointment I'm due this week but I think I'll book a double and go to the GP instead.

Eek I'd be no good at the acupuncture with all those needles! He says If it doesn't get any better after the baby is out I might need a steroid injection and apparently is bringing home some kind of sling so I remember to try not to use that arm if I can (yeah right - right shoulder and I'm right handed)

LadyThompson · 14/07/2010 09:56

Just a quickie for now (back in a bit) to say to Rubes why not get one of these, as it helped me last time www.amazon.co.uk/Luxury-Lavendar-Comfort-Cushion-relief/dp/B002E9OTMU/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=drugstore &qid=1279096002&sr=8-4 - it's a bit like a hot water bottle when you have got period pain. Not exactly hi-tech but it works! And let's see if we can find a day next week and I will bring you lunch and you won't have to lift a finger. Oh, also re: nappy rash, DD doesn't get it often but I do find that an extra bath a day seems to help the cream work better.

Spot, have a lovely launch today! Hooray. Sounds like the right decision about the new flat to me.

Oh and whilst I am doing links here's the one for the wonder cream - they do an oil as well but I haven't tried that as I have got Bio-Oil www.boots.com/en/Derma-Mum-Stretch-Mark-Cream-500ml_335561/

Rubena · 14/07/2010 10:09

x posted Beans. I feel awful as I have had something here to send you and still haven't managed it. Will get it in post today You are SO lucky not suffering from Heartburn. I didn't have it as bad as this last time but it was still bad. This is unbearable. Better mean this one's got more hair

I have just put ds back to bed. Hopefully I think he has gone to sleep or is going....

Rubena · 14/07/2010 10:18

x-posted Lady - thanks I might have a look for one of those as my consultant actually told me to use one with the bump pain I had. I don't fancy Amazon as they seem to take forever but I might go with dh into London this afternoon and check at Boots or something if I can muster up the energy!

LadyThompson · 14/07/2010 10:31

Right, here's the rest.

Summer, DD's eating has very slightly improved (barely perceptibly) in that she has eaten a whole slice of toast twice in the last few days (she would only ever eat about a quarter, a third at best) but otherwise we are same old same old. I need to chase up the infant nutritionist appointment. As for the house...well, I don't know what others have found but DP has hardly given me the kid gloves treatment this pregnancy - I know he is really looking forward to the baby but the pregnancy thing is clearly old hat and he just doesn't seem to get that I need a bit more help. On the other hand, he is working like an absolute Trojan so I have to be grateful for that. My back has never been the same since I had DD and backache is my biggest bugbear at the mo. The house won't be perfect when we move in - there will be quite a few things here and there that will still need doing, which wasn't the original plan, but we have to be practical...

Got notification of being entitled to the full whack of Maternity Allowance, which is going to come in vvv handy. Hurrah.

Zoe, I do think, having read the update on your friend that her profound anxiety has actually gone beyond what can be alleviated by the support of friends. Her behaviour indicates a frightening lack of perspective and I think she needs some psych support and her husband needs to get her to the docs, pronto, so she can start to get back on track. A friend of a friend became paranoid about dirt and germs after her first baby, she stopped seeing people and became ultra control freaky about the baby, and she had to have pills and proper help to unravel it.

Wow, Beans, Pru is doing brilliantly with the weight gain! You must be shattered. Great about the EBM, so you can get out a bit.

LadyThompson · 14/07/2010 10:34

You can get Express Delivery on Amazon Rubes, but otherwise, if you can face John Lewis, they sell similar...Not sure about Boots tbh. However, Boots do those disposable stick on heat pads...

LadyThompson · 14/07/2010 10:36

Oh, and meant to say to Summer, hope the pack up is not too stressful today. Right, have a lot to cram in before I'm off to the hosue again at lunchtime...

Rubena · 14/07/2010 10:55

Lady - that's really good dd is eating more.
I think Boots do those thingy's. I'm not getting any special treatment being pregnant and dh the same - working loads more too so it's hard. My back pain has almost vanished since I bought that support vest - something like that may help you. I wear it almost under everything! It just gets hot that's the only thing

JollyBear · 14/07/2010 10:56

Just a quick stop in to say rubes, if the nappy rash doesn't calm down or gets worse you might want to get DS checked out as DD had bad nappy rash a while ago and it turned out she had thrush. There were red weepy patches that bled and she screamed the house down during nappy changes. It was awful.

Oh zoe I agree with what the others have said. Taking a child out of bed to the emergency docs for no reason is really worrying. It is quite hard to know what to do when you suspect someone has mental health problems though. My friend had some very worrying behaviour and trying to tell her and get it addressed was a hideous time. She refused to accept that she needed help.

Back to work...

Rubena · 14/07/2010 10:56

oh and great news on the Maternity allowance!

Rubena · 14/07/2010 10:58

Jolly - strange you should say that as a lady at swimming said the same, and this latest lot does seem to look different. What do I do for thrush? I do have some of that Caneston Cream - I'd better research..... Vaggie?????

Rubena · 14/07/2010 11:01

looks like I can put Caneston cream on Jolly - and it can do no harm even if it's not that but I'm thinking it is. I will take nappy off as much as poss too

JollyBear · 14/07/2010 11:08

It is just normal caneston cream that DD got from the GP although she did have to go back and get some stronger stuff to get rid of it completely. It did look different than normal soreness, although not at first. It was more shiney with some very sore weepy patches and eventually some white bits.

GP advised lots of nappy off time so you are doing the right thing.

TheInvisibleHand · 14/07/2010 11:55

Hi all,

First, congratulations Katie!!! I know you have gone back and forth about having a third, but I am sure this one will delight you as they all do.

Rubes - sorry you are not having the easiest time. My sis is due virtually the same day as you and also full of late pregnancy woes. And she doesn't even have another one to look after yet.

jam - my DD does the running off thing. its very scary as she is perfectly capable of going way beyond site and we have had a few hairy times where I almost thought i had lost her. She is sensible in other ways (for example, she knows never never to go in the road without holding hands, and as far as I know, she never has) - but I can't make her understand that she can't just run off. Sorry, that doesn't help, but you're not the only one.

Beans - pru sounds like she is getting on fabulously!

LadyT - glad the maternity allowance has come through and very glad to hear the O is eating marginally better. I meant to say, although its probably terrible parenting, we did go through a phase of distracting DD in order to feed her when she wasn't really thinking about it - TV like you say, or books at the table, or songs, whatever worked. Not ideal, but if you are worried she is getting enough, you need to do what works. Glad you enjoyed the whole of American Wife - I suppose I felt a bit that the end of the book was a bit contrained by real life events and so flatter, where the early parts were more engaging and freer.

OK - having bored you all silly with my job woes, I am happy to say, I finally have a job offer!!! Its not perfect, but in the circumstances, its not bad at all - a decent team, with good scope for more prospects for me. Mostly I am just happy to have it done and maybe even get a little time off with the DCs over the summer.

Veggiemummy · 14/07/2010 12:12

Invisible that's brilliant news hip hip hooray. Well done you, can you still do that other work that they wanted you for due to your absolute amazingness?

Beans I'm glad you got the parcel OK, I thought I would get stuff she can wear now as it's so hot & those things are so cute! Glad they fit, I'm a bit useless with sizing here, I think one is a little bigger than the other. The one with the frilly bum is just so cute. That tea cup & tea bag just leapt out at me, it part of a big set you can buy at a department store here called Hema, I just thought it was the cutest thing.

Lady I think it might be time to remind DP the reason you are in the situation you are in and also that tour health effect babies health so resting every now & then is essential. Could you get the cricket team to come up for a working bee, if refreshments were supplied.

OP posts:
Nolda · 14/07/2010 12:18

Just a quick one about nappies and nappy rash Rubes are you using the new 'improved' Pampers ActiveFit? They gave DS really bad nappyrash and there is a thread somewhere on here about how useless they are. Pampers babydry are still fine.

Veggiemummy · 14/07/2010 12:19

Sorry that should been 'why you are on the situation...' ie his little 'slip' and your health not tour. Oh and hooray on mat allowance. Will take some pressure off.

I have to admit Katie, I'm a little jealous of your happy accident. I'm going through another I want one, phase. Have been cleaning up the boys toys and seeing so many that DS2 has outgrown

OP posts:
Veggiemummy · 14/07/2010 12:24

Oh yeah thanks Nolda that reminds me, Rubs steer clear of any brands that offer extra absorbancy. They promote fungal growth, so can cause nappy rash. Good luck with the canestan cream, if your going to the GP anyway get an appointment for DS as then you can get all these creams free! He may even take a swab for you, though if you've already put the canestan on that might not work.

LadyThompson · 14/07/2010 12:37

Just popping on to say to Invis how pleased I am about the job. Phew! What really great news, well done. And I do hope you get that time off in the summer. Apart from anything else you probably need a break...

Veg, I would love to get the cricket team to help but they are all gainfully employed in the week and if I took them away from wives/girlfriends on Saturdays as well as Sundays I would probably have a mutiny on my hands We have had a young helper with us the last couple of days, he's just down from university and is a great friend of the family, but you know what students are, even helpful ones...there is a lot of lounging around with a can of Fanta as he obsessively checks his iPhone, but as he is doing it out of the kindness of his heart we can't criticise. His Mum is coming to help on Saturday as well, which is really kind. I do say to DP that stress or too much exertion is bad for DD2 but it doesn't permeate. He's one of these types who, unless your leg is hanging by a very thread, any other complaint about health or pain or tiredness is "being a dying duck in a thunderstorm".

When DD gets cross she has started shaking her head around and saying "Vuh-vuh-vuh-vuh!" at high speed. She sounds like an angry little bee.

I wonder what percentage of housemovers are up the duff. I clearly remember my sister moving house a mere few days before she had her DS2. We are all mad.

Nolda, I saw that thread and I am a bit puzzled as they seem ok to me. I tend to buy Babydry but if Mum ever gets me nappies she always buys me Active Fit and I can't say I have noticed a change.

Right, sitting here ain't going to do me any good! Need to get goin'.

traceface · 14/07/2010 12:56

congratulations katie - I hope your head and heart catch up with events soon...I'm sure as times goes on you'll see more of the positives. What an exciting time
Rubs so sorry things are so tough. Nappy rash can be very grim - Phoebe had it badly once and did that shaking thing that you described but let's hope the creams sort her out. And i'm all for getting things free on prescription...go on, see the GP
Jam I remember a friend of mine saying age 3 was the hardest. She said the terrible twos were not a patch on the git-like threes! I found 4 the worst...I think at 3 L was sparting to really respond to sticker charts a lot more, so if you go out somewhere and ds doesn't run off, he hets a sticker when you return. 5 stickers = crappy kiddy magazine from the shop? That helped us. Having said that, you know I'm having battles with L again now, so I'm certainly no expert! Sounds like you're already doing things right from what you describe - it just takes time for the lessons to go in.
P got taken to naughty corner today because she wouldn't sit in her high chair (kept pulling her legs up into a frog position so I couldn't get her in!) so I took her to naughty corner, got her after 1 minute, she said sorry (ie she gave me a hug - still not a verbose child ) then walked back to her high chair, so I picked her up and she went straight in! That's the first time she seems to have got the point! We have to do it to show L that P has rules too, but it's so hard. And you're right summer - P is so damn cute it's even harder!
ZJ I'd agree with LadyT and others that your friend sounds in need of an assessment of some kind. I recognise some of what she's doing and alarm bells are ringing... can you broach the subject with her or her dh? Use me as an example if you like..."I have a friend who felt a lot of what you're feeling and she ended up in the nuthouse really benefited from some professional support..."
Right wanted to do a proper catch up but a friend has just text me to meet up with her so I'd better dash.
Back later hopefully.xxx

traceface · 14/07/2010 12:57

oh and spot - have a fab time being a young city girl again

Rubena · 14/07/2010 12:58

oh Gosh I do have a packet of those new nappies Nolda!?? I don't use them every time as I sometimes put the pull up kind on him but I had been using them sometimes.
Thanks for letting me know. No more of those.

Congrats Invis

MomOrMum · 14/07/2010 13:18

Hi everyone,

I've been lurking but haven't had a chance to post in a few days. We had a lovely mini meet up in the HOT sun on Friday. I'm away in August, unfortunately, so I'll miss the next London meet up.

Will start with my scan update - all good so far! Phew. Still very scary early days, but I saw a heartbeat so that is a good sign. They want to scan in a couple of weeks again because I didn't have a period between my m/c and getting preggo again, so they don't know about dates. The only annoying thing is that because I am away for the whole of August, I miss the key time for getting booked in with the midwives, which apparently means I won't get a named midwife (we have midwives linked to our GP, and you're supposed to get a dedicated midwife). I am considering changing my flight to come back a week early because of it.

Feeling very sorry for the ladies in late pregnancy and those doing house moves/DIY combined with pregnancy. Rubes, poor you and poor DS. Thrush sounds very likely - think sometimes they need oral meds to help sort it out if it's really bad so probably worth a trip to the GP? You could try the oats in the bath trick to soothe in the meantie (put in a sock or muslin and then squeeze out until the water is cloudy).

Lady - Congrats on the maternity allowance and Invis congrats on the job!

Spot Enjoy the book launch. How exciting.

I'm missing loads of people, but need to get some work done....will try to check in later.

EffiePerine · 14/07/2010 14:34

Great news about the scan Mom . That sounds a bit ridiculous about the mw. Why does it make a difference when you book in?

Invis: fab news! All that hard work and high standards has paid off.

Better go, I have been persuaded to help out DH on a few things and it involves thinking. Not good.

JollyBear · 14/07/2010 15:41

Congrats on the job invis! And fantastic news on the scan mom!

I've got an interview for the job I applied for. Hurrah and o-oh, I hate interviews.
