Al after reading your post I decided to let dd try some Yorkshire pudding. She seemed to like it.

AlCrowley · 27/06/2010 20:55

Yey for Yorkshire Puddings

LaDiDaDi · 27/06/2010 20:59

Thanks for the birthday wishes.

I've just finished the cake .

I've had a nice day, gave ds some Yorkshire Pudding when we went out for lunch! Is there a baby left on this thread who hasn't had some yet?

dd completely soaked me in the garden with the hose, I was soaked to my knickers (through denim shorts) and then, sorry for tmi, as she was still hosing me down I wet my self !

JeanLouiseFinch · 27/06/2010 21:03

Hope you have had a great birthday LaDiDaDi!

I've been a lurker on this thread off and on for a while and it's great to hear about how everyone's dc are getting on.

hendo77 · 27/06/2010 21:10

Is anyone else having difficulty settling at night time in this heat? Not only are bottles off the agenda today, it's just taken 2 hours to get her to sleep and involved a lot of proper hysterical screaming, repeated attempts a feeding with boob and bottle, eventually bringing her out of her room as it was the only way to calm her down and sitting with her downstairs for half an hour! There has been more drooling again today than recently so I am wondering if more teeth are on their way...

We haven't actually made yorkshires yet, but I am hoping to do so this week. For the first time whilst watching the football in my brother's pub Imogen ate two of those apple ricecakes and seemed to properly eat them as I couldn't find much debris afterwards. I'm hoping this is the start of swallowing food properly.

Glad you had a good time at the zoo Al and ABF for yesterday and that you got cake LaDiDaDi.

Al I can also confirm the football score is not a good one.

Happy Birthday LaDiDaDi!
Sorry about the unfortunate hose/wetting incident!

Glad you had a good day Al.

Elizabeth hasnt had yorkshire pudding yet. It's been too hot to cook roast dinners lately, we only tend to have them in the Autumn and Winter.

Football result was pants, but it was good to be free of the children for several hours!
Glad we didnt take them I think I would of been tearing my hair out at the swearing and the spliff smoke!!

Now that Elizabeth is able to sit up im just going to have to bite the bullet and give her some chewable food. Can anyone recommend a good starter that has small risk of choking?!

Hello Jean. Hope your DC is doing well.

sparklycheerymummy · 27/06/2010 21:18

we havent had yorkshire pudding yet but he did try some meat and potato pie crust!!!! (and loved it) we were at a christening and thats what took his fancy lol

so yorkshire puddings.....do we make our own or let aunt bessie do the preparation????

what else can i give ds for a snack that isnt a baby crisp or biscuit......chunks of fruit slip out and go all over and the net thing is fab but is not reusable without washing which is hard when out and about!

hendo77 · 27/06/2010 21:19

ABF - we started with cucumber, brocoli and toast if that helps at all...

Cucumber was cut into sticks, brocoli florets were biggish ones steamed until tender but not too soft so it didn't just turn to mush when she held them and toast was just ordinary white bread cut into quarters.

AlCrowley · 27/06/2010 21:21

Oooh and we did check out the loos in the new building ABF. I'll not give it away just in case someone else is planning to go but you were right, Alex did love it. That and the automatic taps

Catherine likes Melon, steamed carrot sticks, toast, breadsticks, apple slices...All good starters for chewing. And Yorkshire puddings of course

hendo77 · 27/06/2010 21:21

Sparkly - again I'd recommend cucumber for snacks! I always take it everywhere with me as the skin makes it easy to hold and Imogen sort of sucks out all the juicy bits in the middle then discards the outside!

OP posts:
AlCrowley · 27/06/2010 21:25

Yes, brocolli. Catherine loves it. The stalk makes a great handle and the tops are soft and easy to get bits off.

We took melon sticks, apple slices, cucumber sticks and mini breadsticks out with us today. I just take plenty so it doesn't matter if they get dropped

JeanLouiseFinch · 27/06/2010 21:27

ABF the first thing DD tried was mango. She sucked at a slice for ages and did some quite convincing chewing motions before grinning and spitting out the sad straggly remains.

Sparkly cold roasted sweet potato and red pepper have gone down well with DD as finger food snacks.

What is the net?

sparklycheerymummy · 27/06/2010 21:41

oooh will try the roasted sweet potato and pepper as we have some growing in the allotment. the net thing....will try do a link.
ds is not really doing either method of feeding .....just whatever so i like smack time to be more blw and meal times more me feeding him with him having something in his hand to do himself....quite often i dip his spoon in food and he takes it himself anyway!

AmazingBouncingFerret · 27/06/2010 21:41

Thank you. Shall have to go out and buy a highchair now! Refusing to get anything padded and bulky and hard to clean.

Think im going to try her on cucumber and toast they sound not so scary.
Dont know why im so apprehensive, Im sure Jake was shovelling cheese and all manner of things down his throat by now!

AmazingBouncingFerret · 27/06/2010 21:43

Sparkly I do that aswell Elizabeth is getting good at not letting the mush on the spoon drop before she gets it to her mouth!

sparklycheerymummy · 27/06/2010 21:50

ABF....go to IKEA.....mine cost 10.99 and 4.99 for the tray.....its hard plastic but lets face it they sit on a comfy nappy! ds can look all around, the strap is just a waist one but cos i give him chunks of stuff i want to be able to whip him out if he chokes. I have even hosed it down in the garden!!!!!

IKEA HIGHCHAIR

NET THING

sparklycheerymummy · 27/06/2010 21:51

I do put a cushion behind ds in highchair as he has a habit of throwing his head back!

JeanLouiseFinch · 27/06/2010 21:55

Sparkly - the net thing! What a good idea. I like the suggestion on that site of putting ice inside to relieve teething pain.

sparklycheerymummy · 27/06/2010 21:56

I have put frozen everything in there.....melon, apple, pear, cauliflower, broccoli, carrots etc!!! he also likes just chewing the net!

AlCrowley · 28/06/2010 07:26

Catherine slept 8.30 till 6am last night!!

She was late to bed because of our zoo trip and this morning DH and I found her and Alex both in her cotbed together. I'd heard her coo-ing earlier but not woken properly. She's definitely not cried. He'd obviously heard her and had gone into her room with some teddies to keep her company. Very cute

Klerka · 28/06/2010 07:52

Morning all,
Holly and I are off to the seaside for a couple of days. A friend I met at Ante natal classes and her DS have a second house near Saxmundham and she's invited us whilst the boys stay home and work.

Started to pack last night - it's true you need as much stuff for 2 days as you do for 10. It looks like I am moving house! I haven't been anywhere with DD yet and I don't want to forget something. Although obviously there isn't too much I could forget that my friend wouldn't have or I can go to the shops for.

I am really looking forward to it - and I think the weather mind be nice too. I will be paranoid with the sunscream though.

Not sure how we'll get on with feeding as there isn't a highchair. I will have to give Holly some less messy things and feed her in her upright pram I think. She's taken to the magic bottle with formula no problem. It's a bit messy though - she has a habit of blowing into it sometimes which makes the milk come out of the air hole and all over her.

Well done Catherine for sleeping through! Not sure how sleeps will go whilst we're away (lack of black out blinds) but I am sure the fresh air when out and about wears them out.

hendo77 · 28/06/2010 10:30

Morning! Klerka that sounds lovely. Do you have a bumbo you could take with you for feeding maybe? I sometimes take mine and the splashmat if going to a friend's house.

Yay for Catherine's sleep Al - it certainly sounds like she's soon going to be sleeping through every night for you so fingers crossed.

Imogen still awful at sleeping. She wouldn't settle until about 9 pm last night then was up for feeds at 11.15, 2, 4.30 and then we heard her at 6.30 but thought she had gone back to sleep, when I went in to wake her and get her up (my new tactic to try this week!) she was lying on her side quite happily just playing with her blanket and looking around so I have no idea how long she had actually been awake for!

She has at least taken the bottle this morning, although it was in two sittings and with a bit of a battle second time round which required me singing to her for her to take it!!!!

Hope that everyone else has a lovely sunny day too!

Thannks Lee - whilst I'm not glad at all you're having difficult nights too, I feel better knowing it's not just us! I hope they get better for you soon, think we might try to buy a fan for her room to see if we can cool it down a bit. How is his rash? Did you take him to doctor or find out what's causing it?

Have a lovely time Klerka.

I've had a lush day today; it's my dad's bday and my parents wedding anniversary so I took them for lunch at the local country park. Food was yummy and dd played in the sand pit and stream and climbed and rode her bike. Came home tired and mucky but happy. Both dc are fast asleep now .
