Here we are ladies, a new Postnatal thread! I wonder if we'll fill this one up as fast with one-handed typing?!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
wouldliketoknow · 22/07/2010 08:44

thanks molly, will give you address in facebook, name alle solla. otherwise you use messenger?

Hobnobfanatic · 22/07/2010 09:04

Cupcake - so pleased to hear that you're close to your sister. Like ML, I have a 6.5y gap between DD1 and 2. Not through choice but it's better late than never! I'd have loved as small a gap as possible, but it's lovely how DD1 dotes on her little sis, whose face already lights up when she sees her or hears her voice. I'm sure it won't continue when she's a toddler and interfering with Big Sis's things, but, for now, it's happy families!

mollycuddles · 22/07/2010 09:36

Fb fine - I'm Rachel mckenzie but you'll be easier to find I guess. I'll send a friend request

wouldliketoknow · 22/07/2010 09:44

lots with that name sorry, you find me, ....

hollyoaks · 22/07/2010 11:01

Hi all, sorry for a me post but I've been busy here with a poorly baby, I am reading every day though.

Grace is now 8lb 2oz at 8 weeks, so still very tiny but she's put on 4oz in one week. Unfortunately she got quite sleepy after her injections and then started vomiting. Strangely she's held down her milk but is bringing up yellow flem (sp?). We've spoke to the hospital and their happy that it's just a reaction to the immunisations but I can't help worrying more than if she had been born without the bowel problem.

DD1 is a right pain at the moment, constant whinging and attention seeking. Fake baby crying when she gets a cuddle, screaming for her buggy and to be carried. Oh the joys

I've also been prescribed an ointment for the piles too as apparently I have a fissure (tear) which is why it's so painful to go to the loo. Hope it works as I dread to think what the next step might be if it doesn't.

Heffa - thanks for the advice

sweetkitty · 22/07/2010 11:21

Well Jacob didn't go back to sleep last night until 11pm but slept until 4am in his cot before having a quick feed and back to sleep until 8.30am. He's been up, fed and back to sleep again now in his swing. We were supposed to be going out today but it is raining again so DP took DD1 and 2 swimming. Am totally fed up with this weather, DP has had 2 weeks off and I think there has been one good day.

Was looking at the girls height and weight charts last night, I reckon when Jacob gets weighed at 3 months he will weigh the same as DD1 did at 6 months!

hollyoaks - sounds like Grace is doing fine weight wise, some babies are just supposed to be dinky little things. You are right enjoy her being little for as long as you can. I am feeling a bit depressed about how fast it is all going. Hope she feels better soon after her immunisations poor thing.

ML - hope you are feeling better today, never ventured into Aqua Beads here

cupcake - thanks for the reminder re pelvic floors, must do more. Jacob loves his bath makes a right old mess, he howls when you take him out, I agree though baths with your baby are lovely.

Oh and he's started to move, shuffles himself backwards with his legs, that's leaving him on the bed and sofa out now.

TomlinTowers · 22/07/2010 11:50

Hi All

Just popping on in break from packing - we are off on holiday tomorrow to Northumberland with my DPs, my DSis and DBil so v much looking forward to that. Just hope we get some sun (pleeeeeeease!)

ML - hope you are feeling better soon.

SK - wow at Jacob moving already! DD managed to turn herself over yesterday - I had her down on the floor thank goodness and forgot the wipes, so popped into hallway to get wipes from change bag, came back, and there she was on her front! Not sure who was more surprised - me or her!

Cupcake - apparently Davina McCall does her pelvice floors whenever she is stopped at a red traffic light! I really must keep it up - DD was a 9lb 7 baby with a 2nd degree tear so everything must be pretty "loose" down there. Thanks for reminding me!

Wouldliketoknow - I have heard excellent things about the Jelonet dressings. Hope they work - I am so impressed with you for keeping going with the BFing, and I really hope it works out for you.

Hollyoaks - as long as she is following her centile line then Grace's weight will be fine. Must have been a scary reaction to her jabs though - will they change her second lot of jabs or do they just give them to her regardless of reaction?

Hope everyone else is well. I must say the number of posts per day has picked up recently - we must be getting better at managing to find time to read and post - or else we are getting more practice at one handed typing!

Must go now - meant to be getting packed up so DH can load the car tonight when he gets home from work, and I am meant to be taking DS to soft play this afternoon for my regular meet up with the NCT people I met when I was having DS1. DMum is looking after DD so I can spend some quality time with DS - although how much "quality" time you can have at a soft play centre is debatable...but at least I will be able to run around with him and go on the big slides, so I guess it will be fun. Oh, and buyers for house have also decided to have a Homebuyers survey which is happening on Monday so have to make sure we leave the house spotless so that the surveyor doesn't spot our dodgy DIY attempts! So at this rate I will be up mopping floors until gone midnight...ah well....!

wouldliketoknow · 22/07/2010 12:20

thank you all for the support, keep it coming, it really makes me think again about giving up bf, i put him to the breast at 11.20 this morning thinking i'll give him a bottle after, but hasn't moan yet, i expressed right after and he had drained that breast, hopefully the other heals soon...

thanks for the reminder on pelvic floor exercises... must do that.

holly, poor grace, i am sure everything is fine, but i would freak out too, take comfort in the fact that we would all react the same way, besides being ok, in my surgery they ask to stay along for a while to make sure he is perfectly ok, and have doctors in hand if any reaction
tomlin, we also want to sell the flat and buy a house, but i cannot bare the though of making the house presentable right now, we are not even accepting visitors yet unless they promise at least to clean after themselves, only dsis taking the offer/threat so far...

must go, can he be hungry again? how long go your babies in breast milk before crying for more?

hollyoaks · 22/07/2010 14:35

Thanks for the messages, Grace seems to be picking up today, she's held three feeds down so far today and no flem.

SK - that Jacob's moving already.

Tomlin - enjoy your holiday in Northumberland, but don't hold out much hope for the weather, it's chucking it down today. Whereabouts are you visiting? I'll be mentioning her reaction to the hv next week and then see if she needs to have different ones. Grace has dropped from the 9th centile to the 4th which is a little worrying but hv didn't seem too worried.

Wouldliketoknow - I'm assuming you alle under a different name, you must have changed it when I was on holiday and I've missed it. Our surgery asks us to wait afterwards too but she didn't start being sick till 9pm that night. Hope you heal soon, must be painful, but again well done for persevering with the bf.

pigleychez · 22/07/2010 14:45

Afternoon all

Connecting with DH- Well we usually have a good natter of an evening once DD1 is in bed. Last night however he spent the evening trying to settle DD done to sleep. She is full of cold and was very unsettled. She finally went off about 10 ish, just as I was going to bed. DH decided he would stay awake for abit as he felt he hadnt had anytime so only saw him this morning as he was getting ready for work
Lucy slept 10-6 again which was very welcome

As for the other "connecting" with DH... No energy/interest for any of that right now

Pamlet- Ive been feeling abit depressed about my clothes lately too. Nothing fits nicely without the overhang I ordered loads of new stuff in the next sale but its all going back as it just looks horrible
Thinking of buying a pair of "Spanx" or something!

at the hardest life discussions. DH is probably getting fed up of hearing it from me at the mo.

Kaffa- hope the appointment goes well

Cupcake- Good reminder!
I love having baths with the kids. So much easier to hold them too.
I get the bath a fair bit with DD1 and Lucy. DD loves having Lucy with her and helps me wash her with the sponge.
DH likes to do bath and bed with DD1 and quite often he jumps in with her too.

ML- Glad you had a good party. Hope you feel better soon.

Hollyoaks- Bet that was abit scary.

SK- Weathers been all over the place here today too.. One minute tipping down then bright warm sunshine?!
Still, im happy to get it out the way today and have a dry day tomorrow for DD1's birthday day out to the Zoo! They had forecast heavy rain but the outlooks better now
Thankfully the weathers looking fair for the weekends parties too!

Lucy is another one whos started shuffling.. She was placed in the centre of her playmat, i went into the kitchen and came back to her legs off the bottom of the mat?!

[Envy] of those going on holiday.

Tomlin- wow on the rolling over. DD1 never rolled at all but was sitting up alone by 4mths so never needed to i suppose.

Thanks for the comments on Daytime naps.
Today I have been putting Lucy upstairs in her basket and she seems to be going off easier and sleeping abit more soundly. Ive actually felt more relaxed as im not getting so wound up and constantly moaning at DD to be quieter!
Going to have very toned legs with all this up and down the stairs to check on her
Shes currently asleep in the swing but then DD1 is sleeping too (Yay!!) so its much calmer/quieter!

Made the most of the calm and peace and have just cleaned the fish tank out. Just got the bathroom to clean this afternoon - oh joy!

first1 · 22/07/2010 15:01

pigleychez - enjoy the zoo!

tomlin - how exciting about the rolling! Chloe looks like she's on the brink of it too, kind of gets half way then flops back again.

hollyoaks - I know it's hard to, but don't worry about Grace I'm sure her weight is fine, some babies are just made to be little!

Got a date for my "perineal revision" surgery. 20th August. I knew it would be expensive, but got the full quote today - £2275 . Don't know what I was expecting, but didn't think that much! Apparently it's the hospital that takes the majority, not the consultant's fees. Before then, have been given a host of vaginal antibiotic cream , oestrogen cream in an applicator every day for 3months (not really sure what this is for, have googled and it's bringing up alternative to HRT. I'm 23 so it cant be for menopause!!), and apparently have a small fissure so been given suppositories which scares the life out of me, i've never put anything in there!!

Chloe is fighting sleep during the day too. Gets very edgey, starts crying, can see she is desperately tired but is just not having it.

Question about baby poo for ff babies. She's 8 weeks today and regretfully been exclusively ff since 2 weeks, but her poo has recently become proper green, we call it Shrek poo . The Birth to Five book says this can happen, but wonder why it's turned colour now? She seems fine otherwise.

Sorry for long mainly me post. Afraid no time for more personals. Will catch up soon.

mollycuddles · 22/07/2010 15:32

Brief post. Molly is stirring - she's on dh's chest and I've been getting organised with family paperwork and filing. I've found one person of your name on fb wouldliketoknow - very glamorous photo. Feeling even frumpier now. first1 vaginal oestrogen cream encourages healing and tissue health and is sometimes even used in children so it's not the first sign of menopause! If chloe is well don't worry about the shrek poo.

pamelat · 22/07/2010 17:44

Sorry for "me" post, just called DH home in tears for the first time.
Had a really lovely morning with DS and DD. Took DD swimming whilst MIL held Alex, although to be fair he just slept. I was so happy as he had a 2 hour nap - 11am -1pm and I really thought he would be happy all day.
He woke at 1pm to feed, fine - 40 min feed. Within 15 mins he was crying so offered more milk, he then did a poo that was almost a luminous yellow/green colour, more just very bright yellow.
I figured he would feel better, but has spent from 2pm until now crying. I resorted to driving him around to get him to sleep but DD was not impressed and had a tantrum and did a wee in her car seat (second "accident" today when she never has any and I am sure its on purpose?), anyway it all felt out of control.

I ended up feeding 1-140pm
2-220pm
3-340pm
4-430pm
driving in tears (me and Alex)
and then 1oz of formula at 530pm seems to have calmed him right down, I dont understand and feel that on the days with him and DD I cant cope with breast feeding. He is still putting a pound a week on but maybe doesnt like it anymore? mornings and night he is ok but afternooons are occassionally difficult

also our cleaner (know lucky, she comes once a fortnight as my treat ) has not turned up without any excuse, so I just cried and rang DH.

DD said "mummy has had enough" oooppps.

KaffaCakes · 22/07/2010 17:44

Afternoon all,

mL sorry to hear you're poorly, think me and Alb are coming down with something too, he's been sleeping most of the day and has been pretty hot and fretful. I feel run down, I guess the past 9 weeks are taking their toll. Sounds like DD2 has had a good day!

Hollyoaks sounds like poor little Grace has had a hard time after her jabs, Albie has his tomorrow morning so I've planned a chilled weekend in case he reacts similarly. I suspect he'll be pretty sore and grumpy afterwards.

SK I'm feeling depressed about how quickly it's all going too. I can't believe my little man is 9 weeks and gone up a clothes size!

Tomlin that's great news on DD turning over! Albie has tried but too lazy to flip himself all the way. Have a lovely trip!

first1 Wow, that's a lot of money and preparation! It'll all be worth it though. I'm expecting never to be the same again after my episiotomy and then the stitches opening.

Albie has pretty sleepy all day today and very fretful when he's been awake. Woke at 4.50am and then slept with me in the bed. Hasn't wanted to feed as much. I'm feeling pretty carppy- like I'm getting a cold so maybe it's that. I've been dieting this week so maybe that's why? I hope he sleeps tonight, got the jabs tomorrow so want to get organised in the morning on time!

wouldliketoknow · 22/07/2010 18:00

hi all
yes, it's alle, though my name was too close to mine, and better have something fun.
facebook: glamoruous picture, blond lady that would me, request away, i use only false information, don't trust facebook, but gradually getting into it for fear of social exclusion...
oscar napping for 40 min now, shopping done, got ride back home, laundry done, i am gonna put my feet up with a cup of tea, hopefully he won't wake up just as the tea is done.
aibu: a lady in sainsbury's uniform approach me to ask how old was my baby, i very nicely told her 11 weeks, only to see her turn around and say to another lady in uniform: 'it's ok, this one is 11 weeks, yours is only 7 and it's definetly longer', so i told her that when i visit work nobody works either, she took offence, which dh pointed out to me when we were leaving, and i told him that i hope so, he thinks i am unreasonable, what would you have done?

pamelat · 22/07/2010 20:03

Forced myself out for a run after getting so silly and low (over nothing really ). I really didnt want to go but DH offered to put most monsters lovely children of ours to bed. so I figured I should take him up on it (got back 45 mins later to 2 crying children but at least he tried and at least I got away!!) To be fair, he did settle Alex, he is very good - easier to be calm when you've been out at work though.

I say "run" was half run and half walk, may not be able to walk tomorrow, ache all ready but its cleared my head.

SK cant believe Jacob is moving. How old is he now? That must be really early? I cant remember DD's milestones but think Alex will be earlier than her with everything.

Tomlin your afternoon sounds lovely. I am really missing my time along with DD. I get time alone with Alex Monday to Wednesday which I love, but with DD I am just grabbing an hour here and there before having to feed again. I think the sooner I give up breast feeding the happier I will be, I want to try to get to 12 weeks, not far away.

All can I please ask a few questions. 1) how do you get your LO's to sleep in the day? I am having to rely on car or pram for lunch and afternoons.2) do you stress if your LO wants to feed all the time or do you just get on with it?

ML sorry you poorly again do you think you are doing too much? I guess its hard not to though.

wouldliketoknow · 22/07/2010 20:17

sleep: oscar only sleeps in the day if, and it's a big if, he wants to, never being able to make him
stress: i consider abnormal anyone with a younger than 6 months baby who does not stress, too much, too little, too often, asleep for too long, too many bottles, breast hurt too much, take your pick
gosh, typing one handed is tiring...

MooseyMoo · 22/07/2010 20:34

I've been lurking for a while and thought I would see if I could join the group? opens bottle of wine, pours a large glass and settles down on comfy chair

My DD, Sophie, was born on 1 May, 8lbs 13oz, after a 22hr labour (she was back to back).

She's now 13lbs 10ozs now and I can't believe she is nearly 3 months. We had problems breastfeeding so I expressed for 5 weeks and slowly moved to formula. Which means my boobs are now milk-free and I have had my period

I always knew that being a parent was going to be challenging but I didn't realise how frustrating it could be at times!

Any questions - fire away! I know more about you, than you know about me! Oh, that sounds a bit creepy - but ykwim...

pamelat · 22/07/2010 21:10

Hello Mmoo welcome, it does sound a little scary put like that but yes I know what you mean!

Is Sophie your first? Pretty name.

My DH is currently saying that if I even threaten to have/want a 3rd he will get a vasectomy!!

pigleychez · 22/07/2010 21:47

First- Thats alot of money but im sure it will be worth it in the end

Pamlet- Dont be embarrased about crying. I'll admit to having a cry the other day too when Lucy was very unsettled and fighting her sleep and DD was having a constant tantrum day! It is very draining and your only human! There are times when I think i really cant do this but then it passes and all is good again.

Well done on the run

Kaffa- Hope you feel better in the morning and its not the start of something.

Mooseymoo- Welcome

DD is sooo excited about going to the zoo and all evening has been saying about going and saying "hello Monkeys", "hello Penguins". The zoo also has a thomas the tank train ride which shes excited about going on.
It so lovely seeing her so excited and im looking forward to a family day out too.

millingtonsmummy · 22/07/2010 21:55

Evening all,

Welcome mooseymoo and congrats on the arrival of Sophie. Gorgeous name, was on our short list.

pamela well done you getting out of the house and clearing your head. And exercise too, have forgotten what that's like! Harry usually has around 3 naps a day and is extremely difficult to settle if not in the buggy or car. The only way I can get him to stop screaming and fighting the need to sleep is let him suck my little finger. Until now he's always refused a dummy and although he'll fall asleep in my arms if I jiggle him around he wakes as soon as I try to lie him down. Big progress this evening though, he fell asleep within minutes of me giving him a new dummy I bought earlier. My Mum & I checked out every dummy in boots this afternoon comparing the teat shape to our little fingers (sure the shop assistants thought we'd lost the plot!) Success on the first attempt and it's heavenly! I'd eaten my dinner and made up the bottles for the night ahead with a sleeping baby all by 8pm

first can't believe you're having to pay so much for your operation. Hsving said that I'd happily pay that to get things fixed up just wish you didn't have to pay at all. Harry does shrek poos too (going to adopt that phrase, describes it perfectly!). Usually one a day.

cupcake thank you so much for mentioning pelvic floor exercises and to everyone else who've mentioned it since. Every time I read the words it prompts me to do a few more squeezes!

hollyoaks my DD is also playing "little baby" as she calls it where she wants me to pick her up and cradle her in my arms while she pretends to cry. She's also been whining whilst sucking her thumb instead of talking today. Really irritating!

DH still away in the US and we've been enjoying our week with G'ma & G'dad. We're heading home on Saturday. They've been a great help but don't like to ask for help with the late evening (DH's territory usually) & night feeds so feeling more knackered than usual. Mum's going to have the 2 munchkins while I get a pedicure tomorrow, feeling a bit giddy with excitement

Want to vent about my MIL. I have a great relationship with my PIL, they live about 1hr20 from us and we usually see them every 3-4 weeks. DH & I have issues with their choice of retirement hobby which is dog boarding in their home but we make it work by only agreeing to visit when they only have their 2 pet dogs and no guest dogs staying. My MIL does come up to us but usually just for an afternoon. Anyway ... she txted me this week to say that she feels she doesn't "know" Harry at all yet and she hopes that we can find time for her to see more of us over the summer. It made me pretty cross as I'm the one adjusting to life with 2 children (and my own pet dog). It felt like a little dig that I wasn't making time for her to see her grandchildren. If she wants to spend time with us I feel she should come to me more. Particularly as the dog boarding makes our visits so difficult. And don't get me started on their youngest dog who is a rescue and has been known to bite

Love to all, hope you have peaceful nights!

MooseyMoo · 23/07/2010 08:01

Pamelat - Yes, Sophie is my first. Hoping to have 2 but will see how I'm coping in a years time.

I'm really impressed with the run. I'm trying to get out of the house for a walk once a day for about 40mins. I had a moment with Sophie yesterday when feeding her. She just started to cry mid feed for no reason. She got so worked up that I started to cry as well. She stopped, looked at my face and smiled and cooed

I have that Friday feeling!!

wouldliketoknow · 23/07/2010 08:36

morning all
holly, at your mil, it's not like you are telling her not to come over, is funny how sometimes people think you are the one that needs to do the leg work, because they are you uncle, mil, etc...tell her to come visit and help you, it might work...
the breast i am not feeding from hurts, expressing from it hurts, any suggestions?

rachelfruitloop · 23/07/2010 14:00

Happy Friday Ladies,

Just a quick one for now as I'm all over the place, DSis has just gone to the airport, she will be missed, had a great 2 weeks with her! Eric seems to be sleeping a lot less in the day lately, don't know if it's his age or from jabs on weds, or the heat, or the fact that DS1 is not in preschool over the summer and is very noisy! From Tues I will well and truly be on my own with the two while DH is at work, no more visitors coming to stay. Not bad, Eric is 9 weeks today so I've had a lot of help! I'm going to try to go out as much as possible for the next few weeks.

Hollyoaks I can't stand that sort of passive aggressive message, she probably won't say anything directly because she knows that it's really up to her to come to you, you're the one with your hands full! Try not to feel manipulated by her.

Wouldliketoknow what kind of pump are you using to express? I find that with my Avent manual pump, when my breast is sore I just do a very light and quick succession of squeezes and it still triggers the let down of milk. When the squeeze is too hard and my breasts are sore I find that it just doesn't work. That's why I really like using the manual pump, I can adjust to suit how my breasts are feeling at the moment.

Welcome Mooseymoo! For the newbies, I've found the stats list for our thread, feel free to add yourselves. Here it is:

Re age gaps: there's 12 years between me and my Dsis and we're best friends now. We've always been very close despite the gap

SK - Corin is on the move too, pushing himself around with his ankles, so I have to be careful where to put him down now.

Welcome MooseyMoo Sorry you had problems BF, that can be really tough.

Pamelat - very impressed you got out for a run!

First1 - surgery sounds v.expensive but sure it will be worth it.

Millingtonsmummy - your MIL sounds v.passive aggressive, not surprised you're annoyed. I hate that kind of comment, they can always come to you if they want to see their GC.

Better dash, Corin has woken up and DD is being curiously quiet.
