Here we are ladies, a new Postnatal thread! I wonder if we'll fill this one up as fast with one-handed typing?!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
mollycuddles · 15/07/2010 10:52

Morning - been at the doctors and then shopping for new family games for ds and dd1. Bought twister - not sure my old bones will be any good but I can always watch. Got blood tested re anaemia and got depo contraception. Haven't really dtd as yet nikki - tried but Molly intervened. I'm not that bothered but dh is so definitely good to go. Needed some contraception on board as too broody to be sensible. Probably will consider another in about 18 months. But must lose weight first. Chest fully recovered by this morning - darn cats. At least dd1 has finally accepted we won't be getting a cat as she saw how I was after just 45 mins in the house. Have 2 dogs which is already 2 pets too many some days but she can nag. Can't think where she gets that talent from...

Hobnobfanatic · 15/07/2010 10:52

Niki - five and a half weeks...

memorylapse · 15/07/2010 10:53

mollycuddles you sound shattered ..hope you are able to get some rest during the day if molly settles..

re mollys eye colour..she could end up with either green.brown or blue..green is in fact a variant of the brown eye gene as its just brown eyes with not as much melanin..if you and your dh have passed your off copy of the brown eye gene then ,molly will inherit the recessive blue eye gene giving her blue eyes..but if you have both passed your on copy or one off one on, then molly will have either green or brown eyes.

wouldliketoknow · 15/07/2010 10:57

molly, trick of an ever asthma sufferer, when you now you are gonna be exposed to a trigger, something is likely to give you an asthma crisis, we don't use the word attack, take a puff or two of your inhaler about ten minutes before, and keep it in hand to have one puff if you feel chest tightenning, that should prevent a full blown attack and the mandatory visit to a&e. hope you're all better now.
lots of birthday girls, as i read, congrats to all.

wouldliketoknow · 15/07/2010 11:00

when you know, not when you now.... silly me, should read before posting.

nikkidale · 15/07/2010 11:03

Mollycuddles how on earth do you find the energy to be out and about that early?! I have only just managed to have a cup of tea!!

About the sex thing, I think our DP/Hs are the catalyst, if yours are anything like mine!! Contraception-wise, I am thinking of the coil, on the mini-pill at the moment, but rubbish at remembering to take it (hence little Theo's arrival...) Havent had a period though, as I am combo feeding I guess that is pretty normal?

I have blue/grey/green eyes, my DP has deep brown eyes that are almost black! Theo still has kind of blue eyes, but they are darkening, looks like he will have his daddy's eyes!

pigleychez · 15/07/2010 12:08

Morning all,
Good morning here. Lucy went to the GP and had her jabs. DD1 looked very concerned bless her.
Lucy slept through the first one but had a little cry at the second. bless her.

Then off to Homebase for paint samples as I have designs on redecorating the lounge. DH will kill me as it was only done this time last year but its boring me already!
Then to Sainsburys for the shopping.Treated myself to some yummy little victoria sponges too Yummy
DD1 was been a dream this morning and suprised me by walking very nicely all morning and holding my hand when crossing the roads and in the carparks. Maybe my banging on about the dangers of cars is finally sinking in!

Happy 2nd Birthday Girls! I cant believe its 2yrs already. It doesnt seem that long ago that we were discuss the newborn days with the girls on the July thread.
Theres something about when babies turn one that makes you very broody so watch out ladies!

Nikki- Havent yet, dont have time or enegry! lol
Think it was a good few months with DD1.

Lucy is such a smiley girl lately. She beams when she sees DH or I. Its so lovely to see. When she woke for a feed at 4 this morning, I leant into her basket to be greeted with a beamer Had trouble feeding her though as she was just looking at me smiling! Same again just now. Very cute though! DD1 LOVES it when she smiles at her and gets all excited.
Lucy is loving the playmat at the mo and can spend a good 20 mins under there. DD1 likes to lay with her shaking the toys for her.

Anyway, Lunch time then a quick tidy as we have a friend and her kids the same ages as my two coming this afternoon.

cupcakefairy · 15/07/2010 13:17

Hi girls love reading all updates while I feed Jude in the middle of the night.

pigley Jude is smiling SO much too! Last night he'd gone 7 hours since his last feed (has slept 8pm-3am the last 2 nights, long may it continue!) and yet he still didn't cry at 3am, just made little noises & when I picked him up to feed him he was grinning away at me...it just makes me want to cry with happiness we need to get J a playmat, he's definitely noticing toys more now.

MDM I do the 2 top trick too genius. There's no way I could flash my stretch-marked flabby tummy one of my NCT friends whipped her top up to feed yesterday and has the flattest most toned tummy I am so

Welcome nikki I'm 6 weeks post-partum and def no sign of doing the deed anytime soon!! I had v bad episiotomy so will be waiting quite a while I think! My poor dh is definitely good to go too molly and fascinated by my boobs...so weird as I just feel like a milking machine.
Also we are Natural Family Planners (ie don't use contraception) so I need to get the hang of what my cycle's up to first as don't want another lo just yet!!

sassles I am so at your MIL. I get on great with mine but even she has tried my patience with J. She's obsessed about getting him off to sleep- constantly making comments that he's slept too much or not enough or 'you'll have a bad night tonight then' if he's been asleep for ages. (not true, he has the same pattern at night whether he's slept lots in the day or not)
I'm glad they've left now and you have some peace

cari well done for getting through funeral with both your dds!

Happy birthday to all the lovely older siblings I don't want time to fly for these los though!!

Question- J seems to poo a LOT compared to some of your los. I actually can't remember the last time I changed a nappy that was only wet and not dirty. He seems to fill it as soon as I've changed him. Should I be concerned? He also almost always poos in the middle of a change (thankfully dh and I have got quite adept at making sure it aims into the dirty nappy!) does anyone else's lo do this? It makes me nervous about changing him in public places!

Piles are still very painful too will be mentioning to GP at my check next week.
Thankfully Jude is a gorgeous gorgeous baby and so content...feel very lucky

Hobnobfanatic · 15/07/2010 13:51

CUpcake - that's exactly what my LO does - poos ALL the time and poos as soon as I put a clean nappy underneath when changing her. We've learnt to wait now, between taking one off and putting another on! The record was four nappies in five minutes! She was just having a laugh with us, I think. She also poos a bit when she sneezes, I've found!

millingtonsmummy · 15/07/2010 13:54

Hi Everyone,

I always catch up on posts during the middle of the night feed too! I love to think that there are other mums across the country doing exactly what I'm doing at 4am ... first night wake up at 3.50am last night, good boy Harry, keep that up please

Welcome nikki! We haven't dtd yet either. With DD it was about 8 weeks I think but I have no idea how I found the energy! I'm asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow atm.

Happy Birthdays to all the older siblings and DH/Ps.

Not sure who administers the facebook group but have just sent a request to join ... real name Wendy Hastie

Right need to get a sandwich before Harry needs his milk and DD wakes from her nap. Really feel like I've found my feet now, done bath & bed routine on my own the last couple of nights and DD to bed early both evenings. Shame Harry didn't settle too!

pamelat · 15/07/2010 18:09

Hi Nikki, 6.5 weeks . I had to be "persuaded" a little. We waited until half time during a football match . We hadn't had sex for ages as I was so huge when pregnant, and tired, uncomfortable etc etc etc.

I really really dont want to get pregnant and forgot to mention contraception at the 6 week check.

In fact my 6 week check was rubbish. No checks, no bp test, nothing - just a chat about how tiring having a baby is!!!

nikkidale · 15/07/2010 18:16

MY six week check was amazing, brand new GP as I moved house at 34 weeks...

Lots of chat but had my BP taken, and she loved Theo, he really is a super baby. very reassuring too!

Guess it depends on the GP?

pamelat · 15/07/2010 18:34

ps) breastfeeding vests reduced to £5 on www.bloomingmarvellous.co.uk

wouldliketoknow · 15/07/2010 20:39

ladies, i am so proud of myself that i am going to brag! oscar has just been 10 min breastfeeding after 2 weeks of nipple healing

memorylapse · 15/07/2010 20:58

well done! wouldliketoknow...there is nothing worse than the agony of cracked, bleeding nipples...

my 6 week check was rubbish..had it 8 weeks same time as the jabs..all the doc asked was if id dtd and used protection

millingtonsmummy · 15/07/2010 22:04

Well done wltk! Hope you can continue without anymore probs.

My 6 week check was rubbish too. Quick check downstairs & a chat about contraception. Out in less than 5 mins. Our surgery does seperate appt for baby at 8 weeks.

schipo · 15/07/2010 22:24

Pigley SK Heffa ML - happy birthday to all your girls

ml congratulations to olivia on rolling over and wouldliketoknow congratulations on your healed nipples
welcome to nikkidale

mdm interested to know what you and your nct group did with your babies while training? My group was going to go to the lido this week but we got rained off. I think we were just expecting to take turns getting into the pool and looking after the babies. I'm taking LO to baby massage for the first time tomorrow. I was pleased to find a course available - so many seem to have shut down for the summer. Sorry to hear about Felix's tears - I haven't seen my LO's yet - although I've heard they'll appear any day now. Think it will break my heart too

cupcake mine's another frequent pooer and loves a clean nappy to go in. When there isn't a real poo there's often a little fart of a one (sorry if tmi). Yesterday though he had about 36 hours off! That ended with an explosive one at about 3am this morning. Poor thing was grisly and it took me a while to work out what had happened. There's been doing a lot of laundry today! I'm pleased to say he's back into the frequent deposits today - at least they're more predictable!

Molly that is really an impressive list of things done before 11am. I don't think i've left the house before 11 yet - but I guess that's one of the signs of a first time mother.

ml or sk do you know if hazel eyes are just a variant of brown eyed gene?

Also, is bf supposed to stop af?

cupcakefairy · 16/07/2010 04:30

Schipo quick post from phone while j feeds- if u bf exclusively & on demand u shouldn't ovulate until u stop so no af. if u do mixed feeding it can vary when af returns. glad j's pooing isnt unusual!

homebirthmummy4 · 16/07/2010 09:17

morning!

virginia has not gained any weight this week, i have been told not to worry, but that just makes me worry more! i dont know why they feel the need to weigh her every week.

we have had a little breakthrough with the evening crying....gripe water..... omg the burp last night was huge, from her boots, heard in the next room. she hates the stuff but it works and we have had 2 settled evenings with her now.

wednesday, dd1 and dd2 were performing in an opera, we nervously took virginia, she slept right through.

in fact we took her home, good feed, bed at 9.30, i woke at 2.15 thinking something awful had happened (cannot bring myself to say or type those words but you know what i mean), she then fed at 2.30 then daddy's alarm woke her at 6.40.

last night it was bed at 9, feed at 12, 3 then 6. i know some of your babies are doing better, but i feel so refreshed!

organised her dedication at church yesterday, it is on the 25th (week on sunday).
what type of thing shall i wear? i am 5'3, size 16 if im lucky, still exclusively breast feeding so access needed.long dark hair, brown eyes if that helps. i would like to buy a new outfit but dont know where to begin, havent bought clothes in so long i have no idea what suits me and am totally lacking in confidence, please help, someone out there must be a female gok wan/trinny/suzannah (but i think i would really be embarrased to actually have them help me lol)

i discovered john lewis baby bundlers last week. how amazingly convenient, bought 2 have just ordered 3 more www.johnlewis.com/230591844/Product.aspx

virginia has also learnt to smile, it really does melt your heart and brings tears to your eyes, i think she is the youngest on here isnt she? 7th june? i suppose she will always be the last to reach these things, but at least i will get the vast wealth of everyones experience and advice. very glad of that.

homebirthmummy4 · 16/07/2010 09:20

also, (sorry to post twice)

you know the list we used to post of who had what and when, was there one person in charge of it? can we have an update to include our newer mummies? or at least, does anyone remember where it was last seen? then i can try to update it, there are 2 new mummies arent there??

pigleychez · 16/07/2010 09:58

Morning all,

Poor lucy has a sore bruise on her thigh from the jabs yesterday

Probably bit behind the times here but we have discovered the joys of swaddling. Didnt think of it before as DD1 hated being swaddled and wh-ould scream and fight her way out of it- Hardly settling! Lucy abit unsettled last night (think Jabs) and being swaddled calmed her down instantly and sent her into a deep sleep. Just ordered a proper swaddling wrap as worried the blanket would be too warm at night.

Wouldliketoknow- Well done

Thanks for the birthday wishes but DD's birthday is next weekend, not this She was one of the younger ones of our July thread as she was 2 weeks late.

Just walked up the local shop with the girls as DH kindly used all the milk and we have friends round this morning and must have a cuppa! DD held my hand the whole way- Think we may have a breakthrough Will make my life much easier when going out!

Homebirth- My mum swears by gripewater. She suggests it for everything! Anyone would think she has shares in it
DD hates it and spits it out so its not been that helpful for us so far.

re clothes- what about something like this ?

Must get a wriggle on with this tidying. Sadly the fairy's didnt visit last night!!

wouldliketoknow · 16/07/2010 10:56

hi all, quick post, i have to go,i'll read later...
today i breastfed for 30 full minutes at 7 am, and lo was quiet and content, i have to admit that only lasted till 8.30 when i gave him a bottle, but,... still
got a call from the council's washable nappy lady, they are sacking her!!!!, no more free nappies, so she is really nice and calling everybody to make sure she can deliver the bigger size and as many packs as she can before thursday. who voted for these bastards? the schools, the nappies, the pools, good thing they weren't gonna make cuts affecting education and children services, what's next, no nct groups? no weighting clinic?
well, rant over, i'll be back.

nikkidale · 16/07/2010 11:08

Hello ladies,

My DS is 8 weeks today - can't believe how the time has flown!

Annoyed by the weather - its so horrendous and grey, making me miserable!

Contraceptive talking - what are you using?

wouldlike They are after my job too, which I HAVE to go back to because I cant afford to be a SAHM .

pigley are the jabs bad? Theo has his on Monday and I don't know what to expect...

Just a nosey-parker type question, what is an NCT group? People are talking about them all over the place.

Does anyone in this group live around the Oxfordshire area? I'm pretty lonely as I moved just before DS was born so I haven't got to know anyone from antenatal classes

pigleychez · 16/07/2010 11:19

Nikki- The jabs arent bad, its just that Lucy wriggled so much that it didnt go in cleanly. Both the nurse and I were holding her leg and even she commented on how powerful her legs are.

NCT groups- They are groups run by the National Childbirth trust. We go to one on a tuesday morning. Its basically a toddler group run by them. You can join the NCT for various benifts but dont have to be a member to attend the groups.
Look at their website to see if theres any near you. They also do pretty good Nearly new sales if your after anything.

Waiting for my friend to come with her LO for a playday. Was meant to be at 11 and late again as ever. Dont think ive ever known her to be ontime!

wouldliketoknow · 16/07/2010 16:06

it is terrible, my friend is also due to be back to work in the nhs, and they just told her that she will have a job but maybe not what she did before, and maybe not in the same area, she need to be flexible, how can she be flexible??? she is a single mum of twins, she needs her job, and need it close.
bf again this afternoon, 20 min, no pain, how you know he had enough even if he doesn't settle after?
