New thread for us to chat about our little jekyll & hydes...

Danny is currently stood next to me rearranging my DVD collection - I will be doing a work out to charlie & lola tonight apparently, while DS1 will be watching Billy Blanks Taebo with his pre-bedtime cup of milk and DH's history docu is hiding out with Diego in the city of lost toys...

Morning all. STW - good luck with the speech diary and the party tomorrow (wow that she's 3 already!). FWIW DS1 didnt talk loads at 3 - now at 4 there is almost no way to shut him up... If it rains tomorrow, cant you turn it into a puddle splashing party - am sure the nippers would have a blast and DD may even enjoy it (all very Peppa Pig like )
Feel your pain on the not sleeping well - Danny was awake between 3 and 4.30 this morning (on plus side meant he slept till nearly 6 for once) and he too screams for around 15 minutes when put in cot before going to sleep. Its either separation anxiety or teething as pretty sure its not an ear infection. And the heat doesnt help. Oh well, remember the mummy mantra...

SM - glad your arm is better and well done to your DP for making more of an effort. That's all great news.

STW... i share your pain. We have the boy's christening on the 31st and ds1's 4th birthday party for 24 kids that afternoon and i'm betting it's going to pour down for the day! good luck with your party and happy birthday to your dd

mos and . I'm so sorry you've felt you had to leave. please stay in touch with us via other means if possible.

MrsY · 13/07/2010 19:22

STW - hope things go well with the hundreds of children ! And good like with the speech diary, sounds like it may be hard but deffinately worth it. And hoping that Sam starts sleeping through a bit more. I'm sure when the weather averages out things will improve.

SM - that's great about your dp, sounds like he has really been listening to you. Glad to hear that your arm is better.

Dinky - glad that work has calmed down a little, heres hoping it lasts. And I'll have M send D some sleepy baby vibes.

MOS if you are reading this - ignore the stupid idiots and come back to us. Sorry that posting for my benefit has meant you've had to change your email address. I'll be over to the fb page to give you a virtual squeeze, bacon sarnie and shot of home-made iced lemoncello.

We had a nice day having an indoor picnic with friends after our Music Tots group today, and have made more effort writing my business plan. Hope it's not all for nothing.

SilveryMoon · 13/07/2010 19:34

mos has taken such drastic action in this matter because she received quite a threatening message on fb from a fellow mumsnetter.
Because this particular person was following her around other sites, she feels unable to be able to post.

The threadabout the thread is still going, but the focus is no longer on insulting mos.

I really do hope she feels it has all calmed down enough to return and hopefully something can be done about this poster who felt the need to be so threatening

littlesez · 13/07/2010 20:26

so what did the stalking entail? could they not be reported? It really got out of hand poor MOS.

I often read AIBU and judge away from behind my computer but dont really post much on there. I do wonder whether people would be so harsh IRL I mean would you go upto another mum and be rude in the street? I do think there is too much of the judgy judgy on mumsnet and people really dont seem to care.

On the flip side I have made some nice friends on here and you lot have really supported me though my first time mum questions and stuff. THANKS xxx

MOS hope you come back and just visit us x

SilveryMoon · 13/07/2010 20:46

littlesez I don't really know the full extent of it all tbh.
I spotted the thread in active convo and the word 'houseboy' made me think, "I bet that's mos", so I clicked it to see what she was talking about and then wished I hadn't.
They were being very rude and telling her she was a right old bitch (basically) for referring to her hired help as a bouseboy when he is an adult, or something.
Mos kept ssaying that she was reffering to him as that because that is his job title, not because she is a stuck up cow etc etc, I don't think at any point her actual question was properly answered (which was AIBU to want to bring him to the UK to help me here), then it was turned into a discussion about rates of pay and human rights and all that crap.
I posted to say that they all had the wrong idea of mos and that she is actually a very lovely and caring person, but then the thread got to be 10 pages and there was no way I could read all that, so only picked up bits and pieces, but there was also talk of that because the subject was discussed at a meet-up, it was posted purposely to get under people skin and then when it turned, the OP (being mos) couldn't take it.
All very boring and crap really.
The discussion it has turned it to may be quite interesting and challenging, but it all got far too silly with people following mos onto other sites.

Fingers crossed everything will calm down in a few days and there will be a new shocking topic for all the top-bitches that hang around that board to pull apart.

It's just horrible that mos was so hurt and upset by it. But understandable.

bumpsnowjustplump · 13/07/2010 21:56

MOS so sorry you are going through this crap. My email address is on my FB page, email me if you want to meet up

SM good news about your job and great news about dp's cooking...

Hi everyone else sorry about sleeping babies (or not as the case may be) I am touching wood as i say this but .......................... O is sleeping 12 hours a night again.... Yay...

Went to gp on Monday about his ears and they checked them when he was well and have decided not to put Gromits in as the preasure behind the ear is in the normal spectrum so it isn't this that is popping his eardrum and causing the infections. So i am pleased about that but not so pleased that we have at least another 2 years of him getting random infections every couple of months... But he should grow out of it by the time he is 3

SilveryMoon · 14/07/2010 17:27

Hello all.

I've been reading a few threads on here lately that seem to be really off.
Is MN going through another phase of being filled with nasty people?
Where have all the nice ones gone?
Getting a bit annoyed with some of the things I'm reading.

littlesez · 14/07/2010 20:42

SM ditto!

bumpsnowjustplump · 14/07/2010 21:13

SM there are always some idiots around... Dont let them get to you, but you are right there are some weird comments at the moment...

TulipsInTheSunshine · 15/07/2010 14:30

There are a few self appointed moderaters who think they can impose their own self rightous, positively moronic, world views on the rest of us and who get very stroppy if anyone dares challange them. They tend to travel in packs so the few who do challange them usually get lynched by a tag team of moral supremists who seem to have nothing else going on in their lives other than sitting in front of the pc MNing and judging.

dinkystinky · 15/07/2010 15:00

afternoon all - sorry not been on much, work going pete tong again. Ho hum. And Danny not sleeping again. Double ho hum. And DS1 acting up too. Treble ho hum. Though sounds like not being on the boards much of late is probably a wise move

Good news that O is back to his good sleeping ways Bumps - if he could send some pointers over young Daniel's way that would be much appreciated.

SM - ignore the dunderheads around at the moment. Think the sun brings out the weirdness in people.

OP posts:
SilveryMoon · 15/07/2010 15:12

Hey tulips That is quite sad really isn't it?

dinky sorry work isn't great and Danny isn't sleeping again. (I will not moan about my night)

Ok, I had a worlds worst mother moment this morning.
I had to get the paramedics out for ds1.
He is ok, but what happened is, this morning I was looking for something in my medicine box (which lives ontop of the kitchen cupboards), I then went back to the bathroom to finish brushing my hair, leaving the box on the kitchen counter.
Ds1 came into the bathroom spitting and yelling "yuk, mummy wipe my face" and he had all these little white bits of powdery stuff over him. I was a bit and asked him to show me what he had been eating, and he took me to the kitchen and gave me a pack of ibuprofen. There was 8 tablets missing and although I know it was an active pack (I'd been taking some on the weekend) I have no idea how many were in there to begin with. I take the pills 2 at a time, so I know he must have taken at least 2 pills out of the pack.
Anyway, called 999 straight away and the paramedics came round but were mostly unconcerned. Apparently, even if he had taken all 8, it still would have been under the toxic dose.
What a bloody morning!

dinkystinky · 16/07/2010 11:36

SM - you're not a bad mum, just a human one! You did absolutely the right thing calling the medics in and I'm glad they were mostly unconcerned. Hoping the rest of your day is much less dramatic.

OP posts:
SweetTalkinWoman · 16/07/2010 12:25

! Hello all ? hope all ok?

SM how worrying for you! What a start to the day ? good on DS1 for telling you what he?d done though. Glad he?s ok.

Dinky you are having a hard time at the moment . Sorry to hear things are getting rubbish again at work ? sounds like they?ve made you lots of empty promises. Do you think it?s just that fixed hours don?t really work in that sort of work? That?s what happened with my City job ? 4 days a week just wasn?t enough. Now the pay for 3 days locally just isn?t enough?. Can?t win. I will share the last 2 nights of total crap sleep with you? Sam was awake on Weds night from 10pm ? 1.30am, screaming if I tried to leave him, then started the day at 5.20am. Awake last night from 12.30 to 2.30am, then up at 5.30am?. I think it must be separation anxiety because he?s fine as soon as I pick him up, or if I sit in the chair next to his cot, but as soon as I go to leave the room, up he jumps again. Am finding it very wearing and have aged about 10 years in the last few weeks. I?ve put him back on his Neocate just in case the cows? milk is affecting him >.

Thanks for DD?s birthday wishes! I She had a lovely time and even graced us with her presence for much of the afternoon ? the rest of the time she spent in her spinning chair with the hood down ? happy as Larry! She still didn?t really ?get? the birthday thing, and didn?t open any presents or cards herself. I still did the whole ?this time 3 years ago? thing ? does that every stop?!

By the way, SM - you are not a bad mummy - I am . I?ve completely failed to keep a speech diary this week so have got nothing to email to the speech therapist. It?s not going to help DD much if I don?t make more of an effort. I?m just too tired ??

Better run quickly, it?s my lunch hour and I?m popping out to visit an old NCT friend who?s just had baby no. 2. I promise I won?t be broody?

SilveryMoon · 16/07/2010 15:36

STW Glad O's birthday went well, we have Jacob's in a few weeks but no idea what we're doing!

It must be very time consuming to be keeping a speech diary. When are you supposed to e-mail her?

I'm looking after my friends 2 dc's atm, how bad am I? I just put a dvd on so I could have a sit down

MrsY · 16/07/2010 19:39

Don't blame you for a minute SM - 4 kids? That's more than you'd have if you did it for a living... I know what you mean about MN at the moment - I pretty much stick to this thread, but even I've noticed the general trend at the moment. How scary about the ibuprofen. Well done Jacob for telling you, how has he been since?

STW, I'm so glad that O's birthday went well and she participated to an extent. Don't worry about the speech thing, one week won't make a difference. How much do you need to do? Is it throughout the day or can you just set aside 10 mins each evening?

Oh, dinky, your horrid nasty work. Hope that it settles soon - are there any alternatives if they it doesn't? Postive vibes re: sleep and behaviour.

We're good here, although M has picked up on another child's screaming, plus she has bitten me a couple of times. So far am ignoring the screaming, or just saying calmly that it isn't nice to scream, but have been tough regarding the biting - asking her to say sorry and give me a kiss and if she doesn't, putting her in time out (sitting her on my lap/next to me restraining her for a minute, she HATES it!), but generally if I tell her off she just laughs at me. Am I doing the right thing? I swear she shouldn't be doing this for another 7 months?!

SilveryMoon · 16/07/2010 20:09

MrsY Thanks. Jacob's been fine.
I think you're doing the right thing re M's new habits.
With Jacob, I just used to scream back and we'd do it like a bit of a game, and then I'd scream quietly and he's copy.
All kids scream, you just get to the point where you are able to switch off and don't hear it anymore
I'm quite lucky and have never had the biting, but I think if Luke started doing that now, I'd just bodily turn him away from me, so he was still infront of me but facing away and just keep doing that.
I started naughty spot with Jacob when he was abolut 18 months, but I don't think Luke's readyu for that yet.

dinkystinky · 16/07/2010 20:36

MrsY - Danny has already become acquainted with the naughty step! Only put on there for hitting/biting/attacking DS1 (or us) - as the only way to teach him that its unacceptable behaviour. And he does stay there (wailing generally) - its only for 1 minute but he understands why he's there and understands the saying sorry and kissing people he's hurt concept too. Didnt start naughty step for DS1 until he was well over 2! Think you're doing the right thing with M's new painful habits. If Danny bites me while bfing I just stop the feed - which causes much wailing and gnashing of teeth on his part - so he's totally stopped doing that now. Thanks for your kind words re work - no real alternative (is manic as 3 bosses I'm working for have all buggered off on holiday leaving me to man deals alone, ho hum) - still come September am out of my maternity leave related handcuffs and free to look elsewhere for employment.

STW - I feel your pain with the separation anxiety gubbins. Definitely worth getting his ears checked out just in case it is the start of an ear infection (the reason Danny's sleeping when pete tong the first time) - otherwise I actually found sleeping in Danny's room (there's a double bed in there) for a few nights so I could tell him to go back to sleep when he woke up wailing - or shushing him - really helped when the separation anxiety was at its worst. And then did the gradual retreat method over time... Glad O had a good birthday.

Glad J is better SM. I remember you had a total hoopla for his birthday last year - bet you'll come up trumps again this year.

OP posts:
bumpsnowjustplump · 16/07/2010 21:55

evening all...

So glad O had a good birthday STW and don't feel bad about the speech diary it is so hard to get everything done... When O was being sick all the time (reflux) pediatrician told me to keep a food diary for a week to see if there was anything i was eating that could have an effect on him..... It was so hard to remember...

Dinky so so sorry your work is still so shit, cant believe they are making you do so much work... I really feel for you..

SM Glad J is better, 3rd birthdays rock ..

Simmer step in this house as Naughty step didn't really work... But the simmer step works for Jessica... O on the other hand wouldn't sit still for a second and would enjoy sitting on my lap too much so with him I just put him on the floor and ignore for a minute, which he hates. His behaviour is 100% better now the ear infections have all cleared up and the teeth have broken through (although while cleaning tonight I have seen not one but 2 molars peaking through at the back.... it is far to early for that).. He has stopped hitting (apart from when DD snatches things off him, and even then when he does it he will cuddle her and kiss her unprompted ), and the tantrums are within normal toddler levels !! I have my little happy SLEEPING boy back and all is ok with the world !!! DD is being really good as well at the moment, I know I have probably jinxed it all now and both will have major meltdowns tomorrow oops..

Hope everyone else is good... xx

MrsY · 17/07/2010 09:24

Hi all!

I shall be on MN a lot today as I'm back to J's work for a day and it's deathly quiet. Been here since 8am and had 2 calls! J said he'll find me something to do. I said I hap 'stuff' to sort out!!!

Just seen the Feb 2011 thread in Active Convos and thought back a couple of years - it's gone far to quick - sniff sniff.

Glad O and J are both being good bumps, especially as you're out working. Hope that's still going well. How does the simmer step work? One of M's molars came through last week and she's being a bit funny with sleep atm, so think she may be brewing another one. She still hates having her teeth cleaned - anyone got any tips?

Not too long to wait then, dinky, do you know if there is much around? If you find something in the next month or two, would they wait till September? Can you hand in your notice before then and go elsewhere asap or do you have to wait till September to look? I guess if boses have gone awol, at least you can manage your own time etc without them looking over your sholder, enough if things are manic (silver linings!).

Hope you're all out enjoying the return of the sunshine - any plans for the w/e?

dinkystinky · 17/07/2010 20:33

Evening all. Quiet on here today. Hope your day wasnt totally boring MrsY. Danny's not a huge fan of having his teeth cleaned either - we basically just rugby tackle him in the mornings and then in the evenings clean his teeth in the bath (so he's distracted by playing with toys). Need to wait until at least September before handing in notice - sadly cant manage my own time as clients expect 24/7 service from lawyers nowadays (I was working today and fielding emails last night and today as the partners are away) so is a hell of a lot better when the partners are actually around ironically enough...

OP posts:
katieblirdsnest · 17/07/2010 20:56

yoohoo, i'm here. ds LOVES having his teeth cleaned but gets most upset if we try and take the brush or the toothpaste away from him.

i've had a lovely day just doing family stuff.
my sister and 2 nieces have been over from thailand and stayed with us for a few days. they left for my parents at lunchtime but we;ll see them again in a couple of weeks at my other sister's wedding. dd just idolises her cousins, who are 13 and 15 and i hardly knew she was around as she'd just be wherever they were.

dinky, i know the problem but try not to jump to their every whim...they'll only get used to it and expect it more! hmmm, must remember this myself sometime soon.

hope you managed to find something to entertain yourself with MrsY.

STW - belated happy birthday to O. sounds like it was a good day and surely her therapist wouldn't expect you to do speech diaries as well as birthday planning?!

mrsy - sorry to hear about the screaming and biting. ds seems completely out of control at times but hasn't done any of that (yet!). he's so bloody stroppy too. dp and i have been wondering what to try with him. at the moment i'm just trying not to give in to whatever thing it is that's causing him to tantrum and also trying not to pay too much attention to the tantrum but it really is so soon, i'm shocked.

right, i'm off to read the paper.

TulipsInTheSunshine · 18/07/2010 13:17

A loves his teeth being brushed to and runs off with the toothbrush to do it himself too. He's just about got the first four molars now.... still a little bit of the top two needing to come through but he's been out of sorts this weekend so might be working on them again.

dp's mother was here for two days and left yeasterday and the poor kids are distraught luckily she'll be up in two weeks for the christening so they don't have too long to wait.

A can be quite aggressive and stroppy but when he gets out of hand we generally plop him into his playpen or simply down on the floor for a minute to shout himself out and he calms down a bit. When he bites me during a feed i give a yell and stop the feed so he's figured out that isn't a great idea!

Better run as i haven't had breakfast yet and have a mountain of jobs to do!

SilveryMoon · 18/07/2010 15:50

Hello.

I have nothing to say really, just wanted to check in
