Another very busy day yesterday with a few disasters thrown in for good measure.
scout we did go to Brighton in the end. I pursuaded dh. I just thought he can do the jobs on the weekends were forced to stay home due to the world cup. He wont want to go on any day trips on 'good' match days.
Plus it was hot and sunny etc and Brighton is one of our fave places. It' sooooo cool! Loads going on everywhere. The beach, 3 fab water parks, playgrounds, beach volleyball to watch, a beach market selling cool stuff, the pier with rides etc, bars , loads of room for the dc's to scoot along, etc etc. We took a picnic and had fish and chips for tea.
Was hot but not too hot iykwim.
The disasters...
The journey was AWFUL! Took 3 1/2 hours when it usually takes 1 1/2. Dh was stressing out and I had too be super jolly for everyone else even though I was not enjoying the trip either. In the end I had to get in the back and sing nursery rhymes to F and endlessly srunch a crinkly book.... omg!!!
Dd spilt a whole drink all over her..but it was the end of the day and she wore a poncho towel home. We didn't leave till 8pm and it was still packed.
F fell face first into the sand, it was in his mouth, everywhere!!

Oh we saw Linda Barker from 'Changing Rooms'!

Back with personals in a bit ....

HumphreysCorner · 06/06/2010 18:20

Hi all

Had the Baptism today and despite the rain it was a great success. Matthew was an angel. Will post some pics when I get some from my relatives.

Just want to wish rubyslippers all the best for tomorrow.

Also Calypso for whenever you start back.

Did I say M hads his 6-9 month review on Wednesday? Should be interesting as he isn't sitting yet.

Will catch up later as am knackered from all the preparation. Will pass some Christening cake round as we have some left.

PM goodness your day had a streak of bad luck! Sounds like you had fun anyway in the end.

Ruby sorry to hear that you're feeling so upset; I feel a bit bad that I'm actually looking forward to going back to work a bit! Annalise has some 'settling in' time this week, then I'm back to college following week, but only Tues-Thurs, so I think it will be alright, we'll see!

scout good to know that Seb doesn't have all that milk everytime - Annalise can only manage 4oz/120ml tops (at least that's in the day, not sure from bf morning & night)! But then she is very tiny.

Am trying out an Avent trainer bottle beaker hybrid thing, as she's ok with water from a beaker but not so great with cold milk.
Am going out tomorrow for some time and have no idea how to transport bottle / formula - do you pre-make it and Seb drinks it cold?! Really haven't thought it through, crap - do I need a flask of hot water?!

fidelma just reading about your life makes me tired!

Annalise had her 8month check-up; went fine, although she STILL hasn't doubled her birth weight .

HC glad to hear christening went well

No waving here, but A is doing some proto-walking, I think she'll be going straight to that and bypass crawling, still goes balistic on her tummy!

Scout19075 · 06/06/2010 21:08

Hi Calypso. My piggy of a boy is 19+ lbs, so am not too surprised any more by the amount he eats and/or drinks in a day. I don't ever force him and often have to remind him "you don't HAVE to eat/drink it all" but, like I've mentioned here before, my DH is 6'5" (and a twiglet) so I think Sebby has a lot of growing to do and is eating in preparation.

Seb takes his bottles room temp. Each night I boil/cool the water for the next day and keep the water in a jug specially for Sebby's water. For overnight/first thing in the morning, I pour the water in the bottles and then measure out the formula powder in little cups (I have the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature bottles and the little storage cups) and keep them in a cake tin by the side of the bed. Because he has them room temp, when he wakes up I pour the powder into the bottle, shake-shake-shake (counting to 15 while I shake helps calm Seb and he knows that the milk is coming) and then feed. Going out I essentially do the same thing -- put the water in the bottles and the powder in the little cups and both go into Seb's food bag (I have a little shoulder bag that I use just for his food/drinks/snacks/bibs/etc so they don't get lost among the nappies/wipes/spare clothes/toys/books in my backpack that doubles as a nappy bag).

Does all that make sense?

I asked at creative play on Wednesday about 8 month checks and it seems they don't do them here any more. I'll have to wait until 1 year. I'm curious to know what things they check on at the check.

HC Glad that everything went well for Matthew's baptism.

HUGS ruby -- be thinking about you tomorrow!

princess Never been to Brighton but think you may have just sold it to me!

Soooo sleepy.....

fidelma · 06/06/2010 21:16

DH decided not to come to my step Dads birthday, he just needed to chill.I understand but I wish that he had come. However he needs to get some down time over the weekend and Saturday was mad.
Do any of your husbands not come to things?

Igglybuff · 06/06/2010 21:18

Just a quick check in before I go to bed [yawn]

Good luck ruby and calypso!

princess at your trip to brighton! Your days out sound fabulously crazy.

HC glad to hear the christening went well. Looking forward to pics.

better go, W stirs

Igglybuff · 06/06/2010 21:19

fidelma no DH does come to things although if it's my friends he has permission to duck out. Not family stuff though.

right, better go!

Scout19075 · 06/06/2010 21:26

DH didn't go on the last trip to the States -- does that count?

HumphreysCorner · 06/06/2010 21:59

DH comes to family things but very rarely to friend's dos.

Night ladies!

Scout19075 · 07/06/2010 16:45

I have just realized I haven't taken pictures to send to Seb's Grandmom and Granddad in the States since we've been back (except the pics I took on his 7 month birthday) -- anyone have any suggestions for new poses/activities/locations? I know they don't care about all of that, but something new would be nice (for me!).

ruby Been thinking about you today and hope you're okay.

Making Mars Bar Cupcakes for Seniors tomorrow night -- anyone fancy a sample?

Igglybuff · 07/06/2010 20:11

I'll have a cake! Again!

Mmmm you could get Seb on his front? Covered in food in his highchair?

Ruby hope day 1 was ok.

It is quiet around here lately isn't it?

OP posts:
fidelma · 07/06/2010 20:28

I'm here.

Cake yes please.

Ruby hope all went well x

princessmel · 07/06/2010 20:34

How did today go ruby ???? I hope everyhting went well and you weren't too sad.

hc Glad the christening went well. I love big family get togethers.

fidelma Dh comes to all family things, unless he's working. He doesn't come to dinners/nights out with the girls. None of the husbands come if it's just a girls thing. We do lots of things with friends who have dc who are the same age as our dc's and he comes to those. The dads all get on well and it's great fun

8 month check They don't do those here anymore. I think they decided that so many babies vary so much in their development that it wasn't worth it. Plus the hearing test they did then (with a hv ringing a tiny bell whilst sitting behind the mother, with the baby on her lap) was found to be pointless as sometimes the baby just didn't turn their heads to the noise, because they simply didn't want to etc. is not needed as they do hearing tests at birth.

Our days out are always hectic!! It's always like that, no matter what we do! We are a noisy bunch, don't always leave enough time for things and always cram too much into one day! But generally we always have a happy, fun time.

Grrghh dh just woken F up, whilst showering noisily.....

Hope you're all ok.

Scout19075 · 07/06/2010 20:38

I hope I haven't disappointed but the cakes aren't cakes in the true sense -- Mars bars, cornflakes, and some other ingredients and chocolate frosting on top. Mmmm, chocolate....

Seb doesn't like his front too much and almost instant flips from front to back if I put him on his tummy. I think that's why he doesn't roll the other way. But I will try again!

What did everyone have for dinner?

princessmel · 07/06/2010 20:49

I'm here!
My laptop is playing up...keeps switching off, I'm scared to type incase it switches off and loses my posts...!

scout How about baby Scout in your garden, on the grass among lots of flowers? Either sitting or on his tummy on elbows, looking up at you.
On a swing
In the bath
In a paddling pool
Eating some finger food
Asleep in his cot
Hidden in amongst loads of cuddly toys so it's like a 'spot the baby' picture!

Scout19075 · 07/06/2010 20:56

Ohhh, like "spot the baby" -- we did that among the Christmas wrapping paper from all of the presents his Godmother sent him. To give you an idea, the box she posted cost over $75 to mail!

I could fill his paddling pool with his ball pit balls (temp's gone cool again here so don't want to stick him in water outside).

And I must get up the nerve to ask the swim instructor to take his picture tomorrow.

I'm helping a friend pack materials to be given out at centenary camp on Wednesday -- could get him among the badges and papers and activity kit.

And Wednesday we're going to be playing with jello (jelly) at messy play, so will try to get that, too. They allow me to take pictures there as long as I promise not to get other babies in the shot.

The day we left my parents' I took his picture in a suitcase, waiting to be packed. LOL

princessmel · 07/06/2010 21:06

Loads of ideas there!
I take millions of pics of the dc's . I adore taking pics.
I'll update my profile with some new ones.

princessmel · 07/06/2010 21:19

Grrgh it wont let me add more than one...

1 new picture on profile though...

Scout19075 · 07/06/2010 21:25

I love taking pictures, too. That's why my new fancy schmancy camera from DH for Christmas was the best present EVER!

Scout19075 · 08/06/2010 17:52

Have just noticed/watched Seb move part way across the room by bouncing on his bottom/scouching. Hey, whatever works to get to Daddy's camera bag to pull on the strings!

Igglybuff · 08/06/2010 19:20

Oooo scout he's on the move! You'll have to get pics of that

princess shame you couldn't add more pics - I haven't figured out how to add them yet. Well the last time I tried, the computer crashed

Today I took W to meet my work mates who loved him. It was so weird going back into the office (although as I had a baby, was only allowed in the coffee area). He liked the train journey although was trying to grab the jacket of the man sat in front of us

William has started cruising now and keeps letting go of the sofa as if to try and balance standing up. He's also managed to pull himself up on the tv of all things - just by using the palms of his hands??

rubyslippers · 08/06/2010 20:01

It,s a weary wave from me

First day was good ... Rubes a bit unsettled today

Will try to catch up as i have a 3 day week this week

Love to you all xx

Scout19075 · 08/06/2010 22:33

Had a good swimming session with Seb today. He really does seem to love the pool and the water aand even going under the water and through the hoop (that was a first for him today). We were floating on our backs together and he kept kicking whenever I stopped, thinking he was making us move. Very sweet.

Iggly You laugh, but his bum shuffle is the sort of thing I'd video and send to Dad for him to see. Took him to my Senior Section meeting and in about 10 minutes he got from just in front of me, clear of the table, to about half the way under chasing the ball he was playing with and one of the girls who was also sitting on the floor and rolling the ball to him. DH came to collect him on his way home from work and I practically had to crawl under the table to get him out.

Seniors tonight was good. Ten of my 11 were there, which is a good show for 14 year olds. AND they managed to plan for event that isn't for another month! Good girls, very proud of them.

Finally have a car again so will head off to Tots tomorrow and then to help my friend pack things for camp. So glad Sebby's flexible and is happy to go along to strange houses and play with his toys or lay on his blanket and watch.

Does anyone have any surprises for their DH's for Father's Day?

Scout19075 · 09/06/2010 09:10

I'm wishing I could knit and/or crochet. Am okay at many other crafts, and a half-way decent baker (Mars Bars cupcakes went down a treat HA! with the girls last night) but am rubbish at anything dealing with yarn. I really wish I could make Sebby some fabulous woolly things. I saw some really cute things on Etsy last night and went back to look again this morning and am really at the talent and wonderful warm woolly things.
