longwayfromhome · 28/05/2010 00:09

such lovely news from oops. I have a 21 month old, a 5 month old, a house like a tip and neither baby sleeps and still it made me feel broody!

I really liked TS's comment "we have a new baby"!

Just about finished the module that I have been teaching. Hurrah. A couple of nice messages from the students. Still some marking to do, but manageable now.

Love to everyone

PS can we arrange a meet up please? I am in the UK from July 14th-Sept 27th.

The week of 9th-13th August would be good for us, or 24th-27th Aug or 1st-4th Sept but we are free at lots of other times as well. North would be better, Lincoln perfect, Sheffield/Wakefield very doable, London possible, but would need more planning on my part. Buckets we might also be taking a trip to Southampton to see some elderly relatives

springaporesling · 28/05/2010 01:55

Hi Longway hope you get to have your meet up.

Red are you sure you don't need our advice on the kitchen?! At least some links please!

Poppy great news on the job.

Crispy - grrr. Apologies to any HR personnel out there but seriously the words money and old rope spring to mind whenever I have to deal with them.

TwilightSurfer · 28/05/2010 02:26

Advice: Screen door is not slightly broken. I say slightly because the screen is only slightly detached from the frame at the handle (in about a two foot section). FIL closed the screen as I came out. I did not realize that as I turned to go back in. Cue ME bouncing my face off the screen door. STOP LAUGHING! What I need to know is do I fess up to the rental agency that the screen is no longer attached there or do I leave it for them to potential realize???????????

I am RIDDLED WITH GUILT over what to do!!!!!!!!!!

Oops are you not MNing while feeding yet? Also, I really can't wait to see a picture of E.

TwilightSurfer · 28/05/2010 02:28

HOLY CRAP!
ALL EDITORS (and educated individuals)
LOOK THE OTHER
when reading my last post.

I think I need to go to bed.

hotterpotter · 28/05/2010 08:04

TS could you buy some glue and stick it back down or is it flapping loose? If stickable I'd say stick, if flapping I would 'fess up as sleepless nights more costly than door repair

Lwfh ooh a meet up, yay! We are in Suffolk until Tues 10 August but hoping to camp our way back up North via the Midlands. We could do a camping meet or meet somewhere near a campsite . Anyone else up for ToddlerFest?

Have put a picture of DS Thor on my profile if anyone was wondering what Dizzy was on about

MrsMiamla · 28/05/2010 08:38

morning Thor
morning girls!

what TS said is right, we do have a new baby! My first thought when i got the text was 'yay...we're all aunties again!'

LadyGardenia · 28/05/2010 08:56

Oops wowsers that was a quick un. Yes it's meant to be very auspicious to be born with the caul intact.

Poppy I'm really delighted about your new job! Yay you! That is really really exciting and I think when you have a sense that it's a real opportunity, and something you want, you have to seize it and figure out the details later. Huzzah for you! I am supercurious about what the job is & entails but I know you won't want to go into it here so I won't quiz you!

TS you are on holiday, woman. Forget about the door. You could if you MUST try some superglue or wood glue if it's a glueing job, but really I would say when you are leaving say to whoever you hand over to - look the screen is coming away a bit. It should come under "reasonable wear and tear" and they will fix it themselves. Not stop wasting your holiday by WORRYING .

Sazz I cannot BELIEVE the feckers underpaid you after all that.

Redser I didn't know he had resigned!!! Point of principle? Off to google that. I texted you the latest thread niece this morning .

FoghornLeghorn · 28/05/2010 09:24

Congrats again Ooops All sounds wonderful, very pleased for you.

And congrats on your new job Poppy

oopsandbabycoconut · 28/05/2010 09:34

MOrning

HP - I love Thor!!

Poppy - COngratulations on the job.

Crispy - I can't believe the barefaced cheek of them underpaying you!!!

Trying to catch up and not really succeeding

DD2 slept most ofthe day yesterday and then fed constantly from 11pm to 4 am adn is now sleeping again. DD1 is in love with her baby sister and told everyone 'We decided to call her E, she's my sister Her sister was interseting for about 15 seconds but the crib/new teddies/snacks and cotton wool balls were far more interesting. We are lucky o hve had a Norland Nanny assigned to our bay (only me here atm) who has wshed DD and cleared the poo out of her hair, tidied up/changed cot sheets and generally been fantastic nd made staying lovely. I can't believe the amazing improvement in the postnatal care in the last 20 months even without a nanny on hand.

I am goign to join DD in a nap before DH and DD1 arrive to cause chaos!

cyteen · 28/05/2010 09:39

oops

I drove into work today All fine apart from clipping someone's wing mirror down a narrow two lane road Luckily both mirrors bounced and he was very nice about it. DP did the hands over eyes thing (although at least I didn't!)

Please tell me that everyone feels super-nervous for the first few weeks after passing their test.

oopsandbabycoconut · 28/05/2010 09:55

Cyteen - perfectly normal to feel that way - I found our car suddenly seemed HUGE compared to when I was learning.

RedLentil · 28/05/2010 09:56

The first few weeks are frightening Cyteen, but you'll be fine. Look at Hots: she is a woman 'in control of her vehicle' as Alan Partridge would say.

Thanks so much for the picture, LG.

Oops, your new daughter is very, very lovely.

Potty training going weirdly well here. Now if we could stop her nose running we'd be doing ok.

Feeling rotten here after packing ds off to school with the clear message that the house would be nicer without his troublemaking, sneaking and general failure to listen. Bad, bad mum. However, all reasonable action is failing, and he just refuses to act on the fact that his refusal to cooperate is affecting everyone else's life in a v. big way.

Gah ... Must do some gardening with my girls to restore my peace of mind.

Spring-will work on some links.

cyteen · 28/05/2010 10:07

Thanks girls, and yes, hots is my inspiration I know I just need to drive, drive, drive as much as possible from now on to get over the nervousness. Am attempting the motorway on Sunday [gulp]

oops it probably doesn't help that I was learning in a lovely nippy new Fiesta, which is much more suited to me size and weight-wise than our diesel-powered tank of a Focus. Another reason to drive more, I guess - need to get used to it.

Red there's nothing wrong with guiding your DS along the right path. You're being a good mum to help him grow into the fine man you know he will be. Nobody wants to live their life as a twat, after all I know I'm not exactly perfect and when I act like a nob I expect loved ones to pull me up on it.

hotterpotter · 28/05/2010 10:10

Cyteen do you remember when I arrived at cece's house in February? I was shaking! You can't stop me now though . Even though I still have plenty to learn, for example on our way to the seaside on Saturday we went up a v long vv steep hill and got stuck behind a vintage car which was going v slowly. My inexperience caused me to satll but whereas even a couple of months ago I would have fallen to pieces I just bunged the handbrake on hard and started up again You just need lots of practice, and I would heartily recomment the M1 for getting it

Red I am amazed that DD2 is doing so well potty training, well done her! Sorry to hear DS is so challenging though. You are not a bad mum, sometimes you just have to tell them

Oh I should be working, but I smell of coconut body cream and the sky is a big deep blue out of the window, I feel like I'm on holiday despite being at my desk

Oops are you still in hospital? Oh yes you said they would keep you in a bit to check cos of thyroid? Have the ILs been banging at the door yet???

hotterpotter · 28/05/2010 10:12

LOL Cyteen you said it just right to red

RedLentil · 28/05/2010 10:14

Thanks and girls. I do try to frame things in terms of 'being the best person you can be.'

I think I may have slipped over into a 'stop being a knob' approach this week though.

CrispyTheCrisp · 28/05/2010 10:16

Red, thanks for your Irish support . Frustratingly i can't find the email which i have in my mind which would back me up 100% GRrrrrr, but will fight on nevertheless . Enjoy your gardening, and congrats on the potty

cyteen absoultely on the nerves for a few weeks. Especially with passengers. Wing mirrors are there to protect the rest of the car from being hit BTW, so nowt wrong in a little tap now and then to remind you how wide the car is

oops lovely to hear the care has been improved and DD1 is so taken with her sister. Hope you get out for a weekend at home? My friend who had her baby weds (also has thyroid issues) was let out yesterday

TS listen to the Lady. She is wise. Agree with 'it seems to be coming away a bit'

Oh and i was thinking on the walk to preschool about the Aug08 film and i reckon the following actresses would be great:

TS - Elisabeth Shue
Crispy - Renee Zelwegger
Dizz - Ashley Jensen
PF - Anne Hathaway
Cyteen - Drew Barrymore
Hots - Clare Danes
Lady - Salma Hayek

Any others?

CrispyTheCrisp · 28/05/2010 10:18

Can you tell i have too much thinking time on my hands?

cyteen · 28/05/2010 10:22

QoD - Thora Birch

CrispyTheCrisp · 28/05/2010 10:25

LOL, cyteen i read that as Thora Hird first and thought, gosh, Cyteen's being a bit mean

LadyGardenia · 28/05/2010 10:30

Oops all sounds as if it's going terrifically well! Glad your experience of hos is being so positive. You sound really happy and loved up, huzzah!

Red, are our bad mother cycles in synch or something? DS and I had a stinking row last night, though we did manage to patch it up before school duetohisbeingthebiggerperson thank goodness. He's off on a school trip to the Gaeltacht next week for 5 days . (Irish-speaking part of country, no English allowed, it's a sort of rite of passage thing in Ireland)

Oh, I have put a photo of myself up on my profile if anyone wants to see it. Christ I think I would nearly shag myself.

hotterpotter · 28/05/2010 10:30

Me too

Also [preen] re Claire Danes

LadyGardenia · 28/05/2010 10:32

Shag me or shag yourself?

LadyGardenia · 28/05/2010 10:34

cyteen in a couple of months you'll be scorching around the place, of course it will take time to build confidence but let's face it it would be the behaviour of an arse to start scorching around immediately. Experience makes you a calm driver and improves your judgment, which is what you need really. It's really hard to e.g. judge widths, understand the dimensions of your car, judge the speed of others, etc without experience. IMHO.

springaporesling · 28/05/2010 10:34

Oops all sounds wonderful and P obviously taking it all in her stride too. Are there any other pics out yet - would love to see one but fear may be $$$ for one of you to send.

Red looking forward to it . I'm sure DS will get the message no need to feel bad about it.

Cyteen forgot to say congrats! Yes it is very scary I found also that there were loads of other firsts like 'first time driving in the dark on my own' ditto adverse weather conditions (rain, snow etc although hopefully you won't get that for another few months yet ).

Am doing full day at work today - it is a Public Holiday here but not in Hong Kong so am supporting them - just 2 of us in the office but have caught up on lots of mn admin rubbish that I've been putting off. Also DH has had DS all day on his own for the first time since he was born. They've been to soft play out for lunch for fish and chips and to the beach this afternoon so sounds like they've had fun.
