had to do a new thread as the old one just wasn't pleasing my computer!

where has everyone gone?

I've eaten nearly a tub of those ruddy chocolate balls. They were meant for the kids but sadly they were at nursery today and the tub in the fridge kept calling to me. oh dear. The minute I try to lose weight, I just can't stop eating. It's ridiculous.

need a padlock on the fridge. There are only 8 left so...

Yes, very relaxed day here working and having massages and things. Kids being a bit difficult to get down for some reason tonight.

Sorry to hear Isla still poorly. It's awful when they are ill. H has had a 3 week bout of sticky eye which just won't budge. Each time I think it's nearly gone, it reappears.

I was scrolling back so far I panicked at how many posts so I started with Moose's about the difficult woman that makes hers physically ill. So sorry too Moose that you half to deal with that. I have someone in my life like that as well. And then the super hot bedroom. Blah. So uncomfortable. The key is to close windows mid morning and turn fans on. That's what we have to do with our place, or our little fishbowl starts to warm up. (sweaty emoticon)

120 DD wears pediped They are so cute and fab little shoes. I haven't gone running in a week.

The weather here is sketchy and coldish. It really is taking a long time to get to spring/summer this year. Its the long weekend here too; Victoria Day weekend. The tradition opening of summer cottages and trailers, first lake swims and cases of beer. We went to the Luxton Rodeo, which the rodeo part is pretty good, but the rest of it was just the usual carnival with jacked up/sedated carnies running rickety, mechanical rides and awful, awful food. (vomiting emoticon here... now there's one that would get used a lot on MN! lol) We just cruised around, DH got a corn dog and bucket of fries, which weren't so bad as the grease was new, (I wouldn't go near the damn corn dog), and DD had a laugh running about, looking at the rides and action and all. Then we came home and hung about the rest of the day. NIce day. DH is working another morning, but will be home soon and must get some lunch on. I've been doing above my usual wifely duties the past two weeks because he's been juggling crazy hours with new staff and new season. Well, I've been cooking dinner and that is a pretty fantastical thing in this house to say the least.

I love marzipan too! When we lived in Germany and sometimes went to the Luebeck Christmas markets, my parents would come back the a big box of the city built in a round, made of chocolate covered marzipan. God I used to love those.

Chef, those shoes are gorgeous! I need some translating I'm afraid: carnies?? corn dogs?? Impressed that you are cooking and totally agree on the vom emoticon.

Dammit I am pissssssed off! [sngry]

So I sold 4 nappies, I hate selling nappies. I love my nappies, imagine trying to sell CD's you love or something. But I made £40 and felt good about puttin git towrads the playroom doors. Note, not for me, for the girls.

Well there was a feck up with the skip hire for the ground work, and we are £75 out of pocket. Like I have £75. So I guess the £40, but I'll loose some in postage, will go towards that,

Lovely thing to come home from work too. I am doing overtime tomorrow, which shoudl cover the extra expense. ARSE!!

Sorry haven't read, and have a headache and a frown

tree that sucks. Money down the drain always sucks. You just have to think of enough things where you made some money until it's evened out again. That's what I do.

Hi tea, how are the itchies? It must be hell for you them in this heat. Today was tooooo hot! (Shoot me for saying that) We had fun though - until N did a floater in the paddling pool. Fished it out with my sieve (yes, I thought of you tree and all those who had water births ), and then while I was emptying it down the loo, he must have followed up with a big wet one, because the pool was all full of bits then... sorry, tmi. So had to do major refill operation. Was knackered then.

Made lemon posset and lemon thyme shortbreads (from the guardian last weekend) for dinner up at the farm - all the guests loved it. Lemon posset btw is the easiest pudding to make ever, and yet somehow always impresses people. Just boil up 600ml of double cream with 150g caster sugar, get to boil and let boil for approx 3 mins. Stir in grated zest and juice of 2 lemons. Divide between 6 little ramekins/ wine glasses/ shot glasses whatever, and chill. Soooo easy. And yummy.

Also while I am on a cooking theme, 120 I have been making double batches of your brownies every single week for the guests (we have with ice cream ) and my streamlined method is to simply dump all the dry ingredients in large bowl, add all the wet ingredients and stir it all together, then add the chopped chocolate - seems to come out just the same and saves time.

Your brownies rock by the way!!! Thank you so much for sharing the recipe. Am going to make your balls next.

Must put down the wine and go and talk to DH. Sorry for cooking obsession. Waves to everyone.

ps tea thanks for the kellymom links - tbh I already do 'don't offer, don't refuse' and it doesn't stop him wanting it 6 times a day! I was just having a bad day. On a hot day like today it's lovely to be able to feed lots and know they are getting plenty of fluids.

I think they're over the worst now. Some of the chicken pox under hair, in nappy area are quite sore looking. Must be something about hot areas...?

I thought Kellymom had more suggestions on it than that Ahhh well glad you're feeling ok today though.

Desserts sound yum!

moosemama · 24/05/2010 22:03

Tree, what a pita. I really hate it when I think I have a bit of money and then its swallowed up by something unexpected. Usually happens at around the time I get some birthday money.

Dog, sorry to hear Isla is poorly. Dd still isn't 100% either. Still getting absolutely foul nappies and being very clingy, although definitely a lot better in herself, which is a relief.

Unfortunately, I now seem to have caught the bug - or at least a version of it. I've had the most excruciating stomach and abdo cramps all day, along with some rather unpleasant trips to the bathroom, but hey - at least I'm not throwing up. Twas interesting when I was bent double in pain while ds1 asked for a drink, ds2 asked me to sharpen his pencil, dd screamed the place down and I was simultaneously trying to check ds1's literacy homework and fill in a mountain of letters for them to take back to school tomorrow. (Not really a confused emoticon, but sort of appropriate to the sitation nontheless.)

More crap from ds1's teacher who told him off for not having his pe kit - my fault, I didn't know he'd brought it home as he did it while we were at the festival and dh had hung another bag over the top of it - and then made him sit it out. This from the woman who has not done one thing required of her by the IEP, no visual timetable, no list of what's needed to bring in and take home on a daily basis, not help in accessing his mentor (whom he hasn't seen once since the IEP was drawn up) and no help with his handwriting and spacing issues. (On second thoughts Tree, you might not want to eat that after I've touched it, although I promise I have just washed my hands in anti-bac soap.)

Even better is that both boys IEPs give their review dates as slap bang in the middle of the half-term holiday! Can't wait for the review meetings actually. Dh and I are in the process of writing a letter to give to the SENCO regarding the complete and utter failure of the school to implement even one thing on ds1's IEP and we are going to give them such a hard time, I can almost feel them squirming already.

Roll on Thursday afternoon. (INSET day on Friday then both boys off and no more school crap for a whole week - yay!)

moosemama · 24/05/2010 22:05

Crikey, that was a cross post and a half!

teaandcakeplease · 24/05/2010 22:07

Wow Books that sounded like an intense time at your sisters! Much respect to you!

I have been giving calpol yes, more because I thought they felt hot. So glad I did, if their heads hurt too Lots of Bicarb baths and Piriton too...

Books dd was doing that a while ago and it drove me nuts too. The boys have always been brought up with a no climbing or standing on the furniture rule (didn't stop ds2 doing it anyway and losing a front tooth as a result though).

I started asking her to sit on her bottom for various things, like when I handed her cup or something to eat (lazy Mummy doesn't always put her in her high chair for snacks) and she seemed to get the phrase 'dd sit on your bottom please' fairly quickly. I guess because the snack or drink acted as a reward for the action iyswim. I didn't plan it like that, but it seems to have got us around the problem, as now when I catch her standing on the sofa I just say 'the phrase' and she plonks her little bottom down instantly and seems happy with a 'good girl' for a reward. I guess you could say I clicker trained her to do it - I knew all that dog training would come in handy one day!

teaandcakeplease · 24/05/2010 22:14

No I knew exactly what you meant Books

I'm off to the dentist with my DS tomorrow, as he leant over the side of the sofa, lost balance and went head first into tv stand and has chipped a tooth. Going to be fun trying to keep him still long enough for the dentist to look! LOL

I just say "no" a lot very sternly and remove from sofa. I wasn't in room when it happened, I was in bedroom with DD

So someone more wise, hopefully has a better solution, as clearly I'm no good, considering my son's injury

P.S. didn't buy the aqueous calamine, as the bicarb baths 3 times a day and Piriton seemed to be working...

I'm reading and replying too fast and missing things

moosemama · 24/05/2010 22:19

Oh no Tea. Poor ds, he is having a rough time at the moment.

They all have accidents like that at some stage - no matter how vigilant you are.

Ds2 knocked out an upper incisor and got it jammed horizontally in his mouth falling off the sofa on his tummy when I was pregnant with dd. The dentist left it for a week, but then decided it wasn't going to settle so he had to have it removed. He's been gappy ever since as both my boys got their teeth late and so inevitably are late losing their milk teeth as well. I cried buckets at the time as he had such a beautiful pearly smile, but now I reckon he will look really weird with a tooth in that slot.

He finds it handy for feeding his straw through when his has a drink!

moosemama · 24/05/2010 22:21

I'm doing that too Tea

Lenni · 24/05/2010 23:24

Trying to catch up - how can you manage 5 pages in one weekend?!

Just been to wembley on hospitality tickets, always a good night out! Free wine + me =
disaster. Almost feel like a normal person after two nights out.

Am ok Dog, thanks for asking. Still got lump but not infected now. Got to have biopsy on it though which is a bit but only a precaution. Doc says might have to have gland removed if keeps playing up, don't fancy that much. How is I? Hope she is better.

Tea - read your thread. Am sad you've had to go through that but glad for you that it is over if that makes sense. You deserve much better. Must be so hard with the children. I also think your PILs should travel to you, good that they sound supportive though. I hope that the counselling is useful and you can move on with your life. As for new relationships, am sure there will be someone out there for you, DHs lovely friend has just proposed to a woman who has a 10 year old. He has no children and they've had a lovely relationship. My Mum has had 2 relationships with childless partners since my Dad died and she has 4 children. Don't mean for that to sound trite, just trying to say don't give up, look after yourself for a while though, you sound so together, I would be a mess.

MissJ - have gone through all options and can't make 17th. Can definitely make sometime in summer holidays though. Have to get something organised soon. Am free weds and thurs from end of June to visit too - when is your day off Pat?

Posting this before I lose it, do rest of catch up now...

Lenni · 24/05/2010 23:34

So much! Argh! Books - thanks for your post, given me a round up. I have the same parenting strategy, cupboard locks and and like all the way. Am also finding this an awkward time, DS capable of climbing/running etc but no reasoning with him. It will come I suppose, I don't remember this phase lasting long with DD. He is getting so stroppy, this worries me more than the constant danger he places himself in!

Moose - not read you post about woman yet, still scrolling back but hope you are ok

Tree - feel your pain with nappies. I still need to swap my ittis for something else as not getting on with them now DS so big but can't bring myself to part.

More reading...
