had to do a new thread as the old one just wasn't pleasing my computer!

took me so long to type that I cross posted with Tree and Tea.

Poor little things Tea, must be so horrible being all itchy in this heat. Could they play in a cool bath for a while? Might help ease the itching as well as distracting them? Have you got any ice lollies in or could you make fruit juice ice cubes for them. Dd is always fascinated if I put ice cubes in her lidded cup and spends ages rattling them around.

I wouldn't worry about him mouthing the playdough and paints, its all non-toxic stuff so probably fine as long - as he doesn't eat it all and it might be worth it to keep him occupied for while.

Also, if ds is loving emptying cupboards. Could you temporarily empty one and fill it with weird and wonderful things you don't mind him having (wooden spoons, plastic bowls, spatulas tins, tupperware etc). Dd loves to empty a cupboard into a box or basket one item at a time and then put it all back again - keeps her quiet for ages.

Poor you as well, being cooped up in this weather. Would send you a hug - but you're probably too hot, so am sending a long cool drink with lots of ice instead.

treedelivery · 23/05/2010 13:54

Moose - go eat. Now. ANd drink a massive glass of water. Take 2 paracetamol and make the legendary 5 min choc mug cake. Eat that too, and everythhing will be ok. For sure.

I was thinking about your gaarden last week actually, when I was looking at the crazed loon who ruined her own and several birds nests when she chopped down 2 cherry blossoms and a holly. WTF??

When I am rich I will buy you and me a house with an orchard.

moosemama · 23/05/2010 13:55

Darn it, cross posted again!

Oh Tea you poor thing. Anyone would be tearful in your position. Hang in there girl, we are all here for you.

moosemama · 23/05/2010 13:58

I'll hold you to that Tree and of course will do the same for you when I make my million.

Dunno what to eat. Was thinking toast, but seems a bit hot for this weather. Am seriously tempted by battenburg cake though. Have run out of salad and fruit, dh is supposed to be bringing some back with him.

teaandcakeplease · 23/05/2010 13:59

My parents have enormous cherry trees and cannot chop them down without authority from local council. Not that they would as they're lovely...

Why would anyone chop them down Seems wrong to me?

teaandcakeplease · 23/05/2010 14:04

x posted

I don't have anywhere to put stuff in cupboards instead, I lack storage. I think Jacob would love to take stuff out and put back but I have nowhere else to store what's already in there

He must think I'm such a meany constantly saying "no" and removing him from kitchen.I'm also scared he'll break things as my spices are kept in his fav cupboard, all in glass bottles of course. The truth is I'm not sure I have the energy to do anything too spectacular to kitchen arrangement, I think I'd rather buy some cupboard latches

treedelivery · 23/05/2010 14:06

We think she has gone old and mad. That is the charitable version.

Or she might have wanted more light - now she has light and also awful awful trafic noise, instead of the swifts, blackbirds and starlings that lived there.

Pah.

We have thunder, here comes the rain. Dammit. Long day tomorrow though, so maybe I don't mind so much.

I really must get out of bed.

moosemama · 23/05/2010 14:09

Happens a lot round here Tea. Even beautiful ancient oaks get chopped down so that people can have more light or designer gardens and driveways. Makes me so our friend is the local Tree Warden (dh was going to do it, but couldn't commit to the amount of time it demands) and I am constantly horrified at what people will do. Very often they will just remove trees that have protection orders on them as they know they will only get fined £100 and that's nothing to the sort of people that will destroy beautiful trees in the first place.

You weren't here last summer Tea, by my Dad's girlfriend (who is a Trustee for the house we live in) literally gutted our garden while we were on holiday last year. It was a beautiful wildlife garden with lots of mature trees, wild raspberries and blackberries, damson trees and a greengauge tree. Maybe looked overgrown to some, but it had been like that since I lived here as a child and we loved it. We had foxes, owls, hedgehogs, frogs and a host of birds, bees and butterflies. She removed the lot - all except for the greengauge tree which we had specifically asked them not to touch as we knew it was near the fenceline and she was supposed to be getting the garden refenced. We now have a huge dustbowl with no grass, plants or trees. Its massive and she then had a go at us and told us we had to pay to re-stock it ourselves but we aren't to grow anything up the fence panels and on no account are we to replace the trees! It seems she got scaremongered by unscrupulous so called Tree Surgeons who gave her lots of bull about the trees destroying the house and liability if they fell on the neighbours etc. Crazy, the house has been here over a hundred years and the trees even longer than that - and she paid almost £5,000 for them to destroy our garden, out of our rent money, then said we couldn't have any more repairs/maintenance/improvements done for at least 12 months as the account was spent up.

Just reminded me. Haven't heard from her for months, but she's asked dh to call her this weekend.

Aaargh - no battenburg! Dsis must've had it last weekend - and just discovered, no bread either. Looks like I'll just have to starve.

treedelivery · 23/05/2010 14:12

Oh God Moose don't think about it. It makes me feel sick!

I'm telling ya, 5 min chocolate cake in a mug. It's the way forward, or back [to the couch]

moosemama · 23/05/2010 14:17

Was thinking of it as a temporary thing Tea, maybe just for today or just while he's poorly and cooped up. Shift the stuff you don't want him to have (shove it on the worktop or in bag for a while) and replace it with stuff you don't mind him having. Doesn't have to be a kitchen cupoard. Anything would do.

Alternatively, hunt around the place and fill a box or bag with interesting things and give him that to empty then refill.

moosemama · 23/05/2010 14:17

Where's the cake recipe Tree?

moosemama · 23/05/2010 14:22

Found it - no microwave though.

teaandcakeplease · 23/05/2010 14:28

Your Dad's girlfriend makes me and

Least she could do was turf it after

Sounded lush before... Mad people.

Made some choc cake yet?

moosemama · 23/05/2010 14:31

Sadly no, but am considering making banana flapjacks as we seem to have an over-ripe banana mountain. The mind/heart is keen/willing but the body is knackered weak.

teaandcakeplease · 23/05/2010 15:25

MM - did you find the energy?

Tink - that looks cool.

My twin brother just came and fitted cupboard latches for me Hurrah!

treedelivery · 23/05/2010 15:39

Hello agan. Had to dash and do more room clearance. Am sending all sorts to the tip I ought to try sell.

Am off to put a few bits of cloth nappy tree [some blueberry nappies if anyone fancies] and also one of those pop up cots. I hate listing things to sell, but not as much as I hate packaging them and posting them!

moosemama · 23/05/2010 15:52

Nope, didn't find the energy as dh arrived back with healthy provisions so I had to make a late lunch for everyone instead.

Still he bought a lovely fresh white loaf and lots of salad, so am now scoffing a lovely salad sandwich and black grapes. Mmmm.

Yay for cupboard latches. Hope you get some peace from ds now. Must be great being a twin, like having a built-in best friend.

Dh and ds2 now shipped off to party in ridiculous heat, ds1 is playing the computer game he just bought with his birthday money, dd is supposed to --be- napping and I have decided to put on that series 'How to live a simpler life' about a vicar who is trying to live without money and closer to nature etc. He is visiting a Franciscan (sp?) Monk in this episode to get advice for where it all goes wrong and we get caught up in the rat race. First impression are that he seems to be very humbled in the Monk's presence. Really interesting stuff.

teaandcakeplease · 23/05/2010 16:20

Tree - I freecycle a lot of my stuff, if it's too good for land fill and I don't want to sell it I freecycle it. They have to come and collect from you, so you leave it in porch etc and hey presto it's gone

Most things I offer on there are taken within 24 hours...

treedelivery · 23/05/2010 16:26

I should do that. SO lazy though [blsuh]

I have a pounding headache now, and feel sick.

That's the effect listing items to sell has on me

treedelivery · 23/05/2010 16:41

this ugly view is getting ripped up tommorrow!

I bet it takes weeks to complete. Oh well. At least they are starting.

teaandcakeplease · 23/05/2010 16:56

They have a message maker, once you're a member, you click on the link in the e-mail they send you and fill in 5 short boxes and click "post" and hey presto your item is listed. Tis easy.

They're usually Yahoo groups. Where do you live and I'll see if I can find the local group for you?

treedelivery · 23/05/2010 17:59

I'm already a member Tea

In fairness we are chucking out really dull items, like a vase, some curtain tape....silly things that annoy me

Please help me here ladies. This is costing £300 [pale smiley]

tinkhasaspringinherstep · 23/05/2010 18:36

teaandcakeplease · 23/05/2010 18:42
