Bikram yoga, that's the fastest way to an amazing body. But very expensive. I wish there was a studio around here. No chance. It is sort of addictive as well; the first few sessions are just hideous as you feel like such an uncoordinated whale at the back, but when you realise that gradually the poses are becoming easier, you can see that one day you too could be gorgeously thin and toned. Tone is my problem. I only weigh 60kg (and am 5'9) but everything is so loose and flabby . Need to get motivated but keep thinking I will get pg again soon! So silly!

N is same as H, it sounds - I am his favourite person, which is all very well but gets a bit tiring sometimes! Am really trying to stop with the daytime feeds but very little luck there. How about H?

tea DIY is very impressive. Go girl!

Have done 3 loads of laundry, all drying in amazing sunshine. That's a record for me. Have also cleaned out my fridge. If I am giving you the impression of being a domestic goddess, don't be fooled. I am a slummy mummy. Now cup of tea and chocolate cookie time (predictably I am eating my way thru DH's giant father's day cookie).

So 120, Slimbridge, what say you? And everyone else, obviously, I just know 120 gets in free. Tea where in the country do you live again?

missjackson · 21/06/2010 15:43

Ooh dog is at home too - I was thinking wii fit too. I wonder how much you can get second hand...

allshoppedout · 21/06/2010 15:46

i only weigh 7st11lbs i am 5ft.
my tummy is quite bad though
started aerobis last wed nite going to do it once a week and went for a walk this morning just trying to be abit more actie

120 · 21/06/2010 15:49

am giggling at the name slimbridge, given what we are talking about. yes. definitely, would love to.

Wii fit sounds so fab. So does Bikram yoga, but kind of less fun iyswim.

MJ at the festival yesterday, H was pulling out my top and shouting 'milk'. My dad was sitting next to me and I did feel a bit weird feeding him in the middle of the field and my dad, but I did it never-the-less. Then my mum came back and said, well I suppose if you enjoy it... was a bit grr after that.

OP posts:
missjackson · 21/06/2010 15:59

I'm the same, I don't want to deny him something he obviously loves, as he wouldn't understand why, but I do try to distract him whenever possible. And of course it's good for him, and easy for me etc etc... but a little less often would be great! But why anyone thinks I enjoy it....? My MIL is the same, she thinks I do it for me. And one of my 'friends' at the music group I go to said something along the lines of, breast-feeding after 1 yo is more for the mummies than the babies.

Got to go and buy wine food for tonight now. I suppose that means I need to dress N in more than a nappy.

moosemama · 21/06/2010 16:00

Can't get a Wii fit I'm afraid. Ds1 is obsessive about computer games (its part of his ASD) and we have enough trouble with him with the pc and nintendo. I have told him we won't be getting a Wii - ever!

It doesn't matter where we are, what's happening and what we are talking about, ds1 will just start up talking ten to the dozen about some game or other or this bit of software or that download etc etc etc ad nauseum. Its hard not to get really cross with him, as there is no way to stop him doing it. Even if you ask/tell him to stop he starts up again after a couple of seconds. He doesn't even realise he's doing it.

If he's not doing that, he sort of makes up irritating songs using parts of words and sounds etc. He has been much worse with this since dd arrived, as he 'thinks' he is singing to her - but most of the time she hates it as much as the rest of us do and gets really cross with him. Current song goes something like "Bebe, bebe, bebe boo. b-b-b-b bebe boo. Bebebebebebebebe boo! etc etc" repetitively, at full volume and double speed. Its enough to drive you insane, it really is.

OK so I am now starving. My body seems to have noticed I always have a little something when the boys have their after school snack. Am no liking this - a lot!

Evening

Managed to stick with the diet all day, desite there being a huge box of Thorntons in the fridge (Step Dad's Father's Day present that wouldn't fit through the letter box).

Had gluten free falafal (shallow fried) couscous and salad for tea - it was yum and all made in less than 20 minutes. (Both come as packet mixes but are still good for you - genius!) Even the boys liked the falafel, although apparently the couscous was too spicy. Dd gorged herself on the falafals and then demanded more with menace. She also loved the couscous, so the boys are obviously just food wimps.

According to the packet the gluten free falafels are virtually fat free (until they're fried obviously) and yet the non-gluten ones were quite high fat.

Would like to find a nice easy recipe for making them myself, although think I'd struggle without a food processor as I assume all the ingredients all have to be blended to a paste.

Tree, we are all in it together, actual weight/numbers don't matter, we'll all just either commiserate or support each other depending how it goes day to day.

Tomorrow is going to be a challenge for me, as I am out right across lunchtime and will probably only just get back in time to collect ds2 from school. Maybe I should make myself/dh and dd a packed lunch as well as the boys in the morning. Don't want to end up buying something to eat from the hospital cafe. Bizarrely they don't sell anything healthy to eat at all.

treedelivery · 21/06/2010 22:20

Oh God hospital food is always a cardiac on a plate. Good idea to bring pack up.

Just had pizza and chips. From weight watchers. SO I'm going to be thin by bedtime. Right?

I'm 100% behind you all eating the cakes All your weights are numbers I dream of! I need to loose a stone, and then another one to be utterly divine. That will never happen, but a stone is do-able.

Have decided I need to stop putting weight on before I consder loosing it.

We have those falafel. They are yum. I made some one, they weren't as nce as the packet and made a whole load of mess tbh. Breadcrumbs. I never seem to get on with breadcrumbs.

teaandcakeplease · 21/06/2010 22:30

I never buy/ eat falafel, I'm clearly missing out.

Moosey put your thinking cap on. My DD's 3rd birthday is on 28 July, last year I hired a teletubby cake mould for an extortionate price and then used butter icing afterwards in various colours, looked fab. I want something spectacular this year and you're my woman. She loves most things 3 yr olds do, so what's your best idea, that's not too time consuming to make?

120 I made some of your brownies today, they're TO DIE FOR!!!! No sign of recommencing the diet until those bad boys are all eaten

allshoppedout · 22/06/2010 11:11

morning

well done moose

120 · 22/06/2010 13:30

Afternoon

Mad day, but quite positive and productive - so all good.

Ds2 has finally been taken off the SEN Register at school. His teachers sat there and told us how well he is doing and that while he is in the lower set he really doesn't need to be, as he is more than capable of doing the work the higher set does, but lacks confidence in his abilities.

They also said having him in that group helped to motivate the others. We were both when they said that - not exactly a good reason for holding him back! Thought about arguing with them, but there's only 4 weeks of school to go and most of that will probably be fun stuff - so its not worth the figh,t as it will be new teacher - new set-up in September.

They did moot keeping him on the register into the beginning of next year, but thankfully the SENCO put her foot down and said absolutely not, if he is meeting targets and well ahead of other non SEN pupils in his class he shouldn't be on it as he is clearly doing fine and doesn't need any additional support. Phew!

I took all our home spelling and homework notebooks in and showed his teachers what he does at home and how well he can do his work when he is with me. They seemed very impressed with it all. I asked for some extra work to do with him over the summer, so that he doesn't slip back and goes into year 2 strong and they were both then really keen to sort some stuff out for us.

Then we collected ds1 and went to see the paediatrician. He has discharged us to the local Multi-Disciplinary Assessment Unit (where he won't be seen until at least next April but we already knew that) but also referred us to a Paediatric Dietican for advice on developing a suitable diet for him, taking into account the gluten intolerance.

Finally went for his blood test and fortunately had the senior phlebotomist, who is lovely and he said he didn't feel a thing this time, which is a big improvement on the last two visits.

Just got home and collapsed with a cold drink. Not taking him back into school, as there is only viola practice left today and not only does he hate it, he has opted out of being involved in the Civic Hall Performance that the class is currently rehearsing for.

He is currently sat on the floor happily building the mini lego dinodaur kit we bought from the hospital shop.

Just have time to recover before we have to go out again to collect ds2. Boy its hot out there today!

120 - we used Ogran Falafel Mix.

120 · 22/06/2010 16:43

Moose - that sounds all good! The mix sounds interesting - will give it a go.

Dog - yes I'd like your recipe too. May make them both together and compare (yes, I'm a bit crazy like that). Have no ideas about the budget. Just wish it could stop me buying wine.

moosemama · 22/06/2010 17:29

Bizarre. Not sure how I managed to miss the last three posts before mine. I am so flipping vague at the moment.

Tea, will get my thinking cap on for you. Anything she particularly likes?

Dog, yes please. Would love to have a go at making my own falafels.

Saw you on the budget thread. Don't have a clue when the new cuts are coming in, its all very confusing, especially when my brain seems to have gone on strike. Maybe it will become clearer as the news channels start to dissect it all as the evening goes on.

treedelivery · 22/06/2010 19:45

Hello all.

Fecking budget. It really isn't my fault that to be a midwife means working fot the NHS, and also working shifts=no childcare=reduced hours=don't earn enough, but earn too much=gets hammered for being middle income

Feckers. I'd be a wise woman to reduce my hours in April 2011, retain my chld tax credits, and see my family!

Hi all. Am hot and grumpy. Harumph.

moosemama · 22/06/2010 19:56

Evening Tree

I am not even looking at the budget. Feel harassed enough these days. Will just have to cope when they changes start to bite I suppose.

I have been too hot today. I'm not keen on hot weather unless there's a sea breeze to accompany it. I tend to wilt easily.

Flipping school have told us at one day's notice that we have to collect our y1 children from the local senior school tomorrow, as they are going for some sort of gymnastic thing. Great, they've said to collect them 10 minutes after the usual pick up time, which is precisely when myself and many others should be picking up our junior children. I have absolutely no back-up this week either, as both sets of PILs are away. On top of that they are walking the poor kids up there (half an hour walk) at 12.45 (so hottest part of the day) then they are going to do gymnastics all afternoon and poor old ds2 will have to walk back with me. They have said they will keep hold of them for another 10 minutes if necessary to allow for collection of siblings, which is a fat lot of good for those of us who can't drive. Arse/elbow and piss up in a brewery spring instantly to mind

treedelivery · 22/06/2010 20:07

Fools.

We had sports day today. It was a million degrees and I burnt my back. Am a numpty.

It appears the moral of the budget story is

  • to not earn over £40k as a family, unless 1 of you does it and supports the other one so no chldcare required. Naturally you will have no bills as the SAHM will forage/recycle waste/generate energy/provide emergency services etc
  • never earn under £40k and have children
  • never earn over £40k and have children
  • never ever ever so much as engage with the public sector in case someone accuses you of working there and freezes your pay and nick your pension. That final salary one that is soooooo massive even though you only work part time and contribute about 10p a year, because you can't afford childcare full time. Because the service you provide is 24hrs and chldcare...er....isn't.

So look out on the school run and whilst visiting GP's!!!!
