Boff, that is outrageous!!!! I can't believe that you were not informed.
She may well tiptoe round him, but in the circumstances I'd have thought she would be being a damn sight more vigilant as regards his diet.
Picardie is not worth visiting.
It is also a rather depressed part of France, where unemployment is high, though some parts are restructuring quite well. I'd imagine poor diet is not v uncommon around there.

bebe, our GP here said that you need to get quite close to catch CP. I reckon a trip to the supermarket is OK. Certainly when half the kids in town had it this Spring, they were all to be seen in the shops, market etc and no one was fussed. Hope it's not that, though. Could it be heat-related?

2 new tyres are going to cost me almost 300 euros.

bebemoohatessnot · 06/07/2010 09:34

Boff that it insane! What if he got hurt?! How utterly irresponsible!

Auld 300?! B(**&y hell! What kind of car do you have?

AuldAlliance · 06/07/2010 10:02

A Citroën Xsara.
I think it's more to do with the kind of tyres, TBH, but DH seems to think we need good ones, and wants us to get the same kind as those that are already on the car.
How much would 2 Michelin tyres cost in the UK, out of curiosity?

PuzzleRocks · 06/07/2010 10:11

Entirely depends on the width, tread etc. Could be between £60 and £200.

I have a Saab and my tyres cost about £70 - £80 a pop.

PuzzleRocks · 06/07/2010 10:12

I buy Pirelli

PuzzleRocks · 06/07/2010 10:13

Oh poor Moo.

AuldAlliance · 06/07/2010 10:20

The Power of Google...
The exact same tyres are available online in the UK for 82 quid.
Firestone ones would be 38 quid a pop (clearance sale).

The 300 euros includes them being fitted, and then the rééquilibrage and all that (can you tell I left the UK before I was old enough to own a car?!!)

I think this is an area, like so many others, where France is pricier. Daft, since the Michelin tyres are made in Clermont Ferrand (I think, unless they have relocated to Eastern Europe).

BoffinMum · 06/07/2010 10:24

Good tyres are about £100 around here including fitting, and tracking can be about £30, so I think it's a bit of a ripoff. I usually go to Kwik Fit for this sort of thing to be done. Perhaps we have more competition here which drives down the price?

AuldAlliance · 06/07/2010 10:32

OK, have found cheapest offer in town
135 euros per tyre, all incl.
Now I just have to wheedle and charm put pressure on the guy to order them and fit them before I have to drive to Aix tomorrow for an MRI.
On Thurs I am hacking 530km across France with A, along with millions of holidaymakers, Dutch caravaners, Spanish lorrydrivers, etc., so I want the tyres sorted by then.

We live in an expensive part of the country, and being in a small town probably doesn't help, as there is indeed less competition. The current exchange rate also makes it seem even more expensive when converted into pounds.

BoffinMum · 06/07/2010 10:35

Bebe, I would not worry about popping out for groceries. Just cover her up a bit! I quarantined Felix for ages but had to go to the GP as he had an ear infection and the GP told me he had not been infectious for a couple of days.

bebemoohatessnot · 06/07/2010 11:55

I signed up to get groceries delivered. I'll try to quarantine her from public places for at least the next day; groceries are to be delivered midday tomorrow. I'll still take her out into the woods nearby; we never see anyone. Such a pity in some ways we were going to go to the zoo tomorrow with some friends. Hopefully we can reschedule for next week I guess.

Dh always pays abt 150per tire for our cars (he gets super posh ones) I had the impression they were much cheaper for most people.

bebemoohatessnot · 06/07/2010 15:03

noise an issue for Meg at an airshow?

BoffinMum · 06/07/2010 15:17

Day just got worse - help please

bebemoohatessnot · 06/07/2010 15:35

Oh Boff

bebemoohatessnot · 06/07/2010 18:03

day not going great for me either

Schulte · 06/07/2010 20:46

Oh dear Bebe, how is she now? FWIW I wouldn't take her out to places with other children / pregnant women - remember how paranoid I was about CP when it went around DD1's nursery just before I was due with Hazel. Normally you shouldn't need to see GP as CP are so easy to diagnose... but if you're at all worried, obviously do. They will probably make you sit in a different waiting room from everyone else. Good luck! Keep her calpoled up. Avoid Ibuprofen as it doesn't agree well with CP, I was told by head paed at our hospital.

Boff, I second locking French boy into cellar.

Hurrah Oscar for walking!

WFH good luck with job search. I know how you feel x

Must watch the footie now!

bebemoohatessnot · 06/07/2010 21:00

I've been rubbing calamine on her all day long, used half a tub already...she brings it to me every hour or so and I've noticed that she starts itching the one on her waist abt then so it must be because she needs it. The rash has gone down and everywhere where it had been red there are spots forming Tho new places keep bursting forthwith hot blotchy patches...I put extra cream on those bits. She's in good spirits so far. Tho we're watching a lot of tv and taken 2 baths and she's a little dozy but otherwise 'normal.' I'm not taking her out in public until the spots stop showing up. Though like I said the woods are empty when we go, so I'll take her there so we can get out tomorrow.
When I took her to the gp this morning they took me straight in, I didn't touch a thing-pushed the doors with my feet, and didn't put Meg down.

Schulte · 06/07/2010 21:12

Poor little Meg but good to hear she's so brave. Hang in there, not long to go and then you won't have to worry about CP again!

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 06/07/2010 22:38

In haste as I must go to bed but bebe try oatmeal baths - put handful of porridge oats into a sock and run warm water through it into the bathtub. Very soothing for CP spots.

bebemoohatessnot · 07/07/2010 10:15

Thanks ladies.
She's still in fairly good spirits, but she does lose her temper a little quicker. And she's become a cuddle bug too. Which is cute on the couch, but not when I'm trying to make supper.

bebemoohatessnot · 07/07/2010 12:14

Moo keeps hitting herslf on the head with things...do you think this means she has a headache?!

bronze · 07/07/2010 19:20

hello all
just thinking do I have any news
erm

Still fighting the system regarding ds1s assessment and diagnosis but its getting there. He currently has an arm in plaster after snapping his radius.
Ds2 is starting to play up a bit at school, I'm not sure if its an attention ting but I'm hanging in there til the end of term.
DD is being a nightmare so I have just ordered loads of little fun toys and am going to try blatant bribery.
Isaac is a dream still. Ok he wakes a bit at night and I still sleep downstairs with him (found my bed hurts me) but hes as easy as pie and toddles around.

DH is still on his 6 month contract but he is in the process for another job that will mean he will be away a lot (6 weeks on/off) Its not in the nicest of places either but hes excited by it and I'm looking forward to the future it could bring us.
He is currently say waiting for the flatbed to bring our beloved car home We will have to see about our future camping plans

I'm still pretty busy with general life crap, still got the allotment but am finally eating the produce which is satisfying. Still feeding Isaac and gradually losing weight. Hoping the bulk comes off when I stop bf.

Haven't had any more viewings of the house but have now changed agents and dropped the price so we'll see. If he gets this other job I'll also be looking in Derbyshire too.

Afraid non of its particularly exciting, the same old mundaneness of life really

bebemoohatessnot · 07/07/2010 19:26

Hey Bronze! Sounds stressful Glad things are looking quietly better though. And hope the upward trend continues. (It's fun eating things from your own garden isn't it?)
Lots of love (hugs)

bebemoohatessnot · 07/07/2010 19:59

Schulte Moo just said ger man and clapped cheerfully when I turned the game on

bebemoohatessnot · 08/07/2010 06:43

Woke up with terrible cold this morning. It was bound to happen because of the small amount of sleep I'm getting... and Meg is very miserable too
How do you deal with pox in the ears? she keeps digging at them. I've tentatively put cream in them with a cotton bud, but I'm nervous abt putting it 'in', but her little fingers get in much farther... Do I have to worry abt scabs/scars causing problem with her hearing? Also, any additional pointers abt the ones on her fanjo? She's struggling with those today too even with the cream on them One of them is the size of a pea and it has a crater in it. My poor babes.
