Welcome to our new cliquey thread !

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
PiggyPenguin · 10/06/2010 12:37

Sorry Rolf perhaps I sounded a bit stern there! I was only joking honest!

Amber I realise I forgot to say congratulations! You must be so relieved. How do you feel about the chance there might be two? Probably best to just wait and see what next week brings.

Biscuits, yes that would be a bit much! I actually had someone in my class at school called John Johnson. Seriously lacking in forethought or imagination...

SpiderWilliam · 10/06/2010 15:08

Rolf, thank-you for taking the trouble to write all that down. I very much enjoyed reading it. Sounds like T's birth was amazing. Also reassuring that you sacked DH from helping. I've not yet asked my DH for help, but he is supposed to listen to the CDs and be familar with concepts so he can prompt me with them. I'm not naturally inclined towards alternative therapies, and neither is he, so it will take both of us a bit of effort to do it together without sniggering. Anyway, I don't want to upset Dewin by being too ante-natal so will stop now. Thanks again though.

Actually, still being ante-natal, I just got back from the 18 week mw appointment. I heard the heart beat for the first time . I have been feeling what I think are kicks for a couple of weeks, so was reasonably confident it was all still ok.

Eddie can you try you hypnotherapy CDs on A's nursery days when M has a sleep? The reason I am falling asleep in mine is that I use them when P has his nap, and I am rather in the habit of afternoon naps at the moment . My house is a tip though. So much so that last night even DH said he had noticed that the bathroom was really bad, and he would give it a deep clean at the weekend. Not sure whether to be ashamed of that or thrilled!!

ktpie · 10/06/2010 15:38

Spider - I always fell asleep when I listened to my hypnotherapy CDs but I think they still worked. With H I was a bit blase about the whole thing and only listened to it once. I really wish now I had listened to it more because I coped a lot better in J's labour which should really have been more stressful (baby in distress, ventouse, forceps etc) than I did in H's, which was relatively straightforward.

Eddie - is it the Paul McKenna one? I lost loads of weight when I did that before I got pregnant. I'm trying to start using some of his techniques now, mainly the eating more slowly thing and stopping eating when you start to feel full. Slowing down is proving tricky as H always starts crying when we are eating so I end up hoovering up my food so I can pick him up.
Also Eddie I just noticed this on the Tesco clubcard site, you go to Wisley a lot don't you?

Amber - great news about the scan.

Rolf - that all sounds horrible, I have a tendency to have a fainting fit when I have to do anything like that!

Dewin - medieval stuff, my Mum was reading Anya Seton's book when she named me!

DG - I am impressed at your present buying, my problem is I get too excited about things I've got for him to be able to save them until Christmas!

Sybil - interesting to hear you bypassed the potty, I was wondering about that, partly because I wondered if it might be easier getting him to do something that he can see us doing, if you see what I mean.

We went to the dentist this morning, J still only has 4 teeth, although you can see some lumps at the bottom where it looks like some molars are going to come through soon. It is apparently unusual to have so little at this age but as I already knew there is nothing they can do, there isn't even much point x-raying him (if we could get him to be still for long enough). It doesn't stop him eating, apart from lettuce, that gets stuck on the roof of his mouth, so I'm not going to worry about it (too much!).

ktpie · 10/06/2010 15:46

Oh and Spider I never got round to getting DH to listen to any of it, I just told him about it (what I remembered about it), I had a book as well, the Mongan method I think it was called.

Eddie - Is the Davina DVD any good? I used her postnatal one (about once). I have been doing my old Tae Bo DVDs when I get chance.

neenz · 10/06/2010 16:00

And there's Gary and Phil Neville's dad who's called... Neville Neville

I also used to know this lad called Michael Hunt (mike hunt - gettit?) What were the parents thinking?

I wrote a massive post earlier then lost it. Wrote it again then lost it again

Thomas Becket - well I went to a crap school and didn't even study history at GCSE. I am also Australian, so do you let me off

DG, I think some SAHMs use the under 3s in nursery thing to justify the sacrifice they have made (financial, career etc) in staying at home. Apparently under 3s suffer stress in childcare situations but when I drop my two off at the CM they don't give me a backward glance, I don't even get a kiss or hug goodbye! I know they are not stressed, I think you'd know if nursery was bad for S (like Abdn did). I think all child-raising stuff eg cc, time out, even smacking can be harmful in some cases but in the majority of children who have loving nurturing homes these things are just a part of life and they get on fine.

Eddie, I didn't really think you were bothered about the surname thing - I was just checking just in case! I wouldn't offer to do 3 days at work - it's not what you want and you shouldn't be forced into it. Surely you have job protection even if they do think they could get someone with lesser skills?

I hate the pink/blue thing with toys too! One of the reasons I had E's hair cut short was cos I didn't want her to have a girly haircut (much more manageable too). If she wants dresses and long hair when she is older then fair enough but atm she just wears t-shirts and jeans (much to FIL's annoyance ). When she wears skirts she gets bloody knees from falling over which is just cruel imo.

Rolf, sorry your appt was so horrid, sounds very traumatic and awful to think you were so upset. I hope physio does the trick and you don't need the surgery.

Amber, definitely go for the scan. It will give you reassurance about sac 1 even if the other sac doesn't turn out as you hope.

Spider, I did hypnobirthing (just the book and CD not classes) and didn't even really practise that much but still found it really beneficial. The visualisation techniques were great in stage 1 where you visualise your cervix opening like a rose. It definitely helped - I went from 2-8cm dilated in about 3hrs. It would have helped with the pushing stage too but I didn't really believe you could 'breathe' a baby out! As it happens I couldn't push T out ayway (had to have forceps). I was rubbish at pushing and I think if I'd used the visualisation he would have moved down on his own. But I thought the mw would laugh if I said I wanted to breathe the baby out! I am looking forward to breathing this one out tho! Did you finish the Ina May Gaskin book?

neenz · 10/06/2010 16:04

DH didn't do any hypnobirthing stuff either tho I did tell him a bit about it.

neenz · 10/06/2010 16:13

The other thing I said in my other posts which I lost was Dewin, what's annoying me most about your AIBU thread is the people who keep saying 'why would you deliberately stop him from being bilingual?'. You're not! That would be bloody impossible. It's just not the same as living in France or Italy where French/Italian is the only language spoken. OPOL would work great there as there would be no other exposure to English.

Also the people saying 'just do OPOL' as if you haven't even considered it or researched it . On threads like that it is often better to just stop posting on it. Would have been great if your DH had been on it too tho!

DoNotFeedMeBiscuits · 10/06/2010 18:41

names I went to school with an Eva Beaver. She was a lovely girl. terrible name though. There is also a consultant in Glasgow called Drew Peacock. FACT.

neenz · 10/06/2010 18:44

Classic Biscuits

DebInAustria · 10/06/2010 19:10

Biscuits took me a while to get the peacock name!

bath issues!!! tmi alert
recently when I get out of the bath even if I don't feel the need to wee sometimes it feels like I'm leaking, a bit like when your waters break but it's a dribble not a gush but you can't control it.the other night I dashed from the bath to the loo to prevent it from happening, then when I was brushing my teeth it happened again. Rolf - do you think I need a leaky lady appointment too?I bet everyone's doing their pelvic floor exercises as they read this (I am, but maybe all hope is lost)Told you it was tmi.

EddieIzzardismyhero · 10/06/2010 19:39

ktpie, you've inspired me to start listening to Mckenna now! Davina is a good DVD - I've got the one with the three different 30 min work outs. I find her slightly irritating tbh, but 30 mins is great and I do work up a sweat .

Oh and thanks for the RHS link - spider and I are such big Wisley fans that we're both annual members!

neenz, all bets are off with the public sector now . Need to make sure I'm in the office enough to stay in people's minds and make them realise I'm not that dispensible. They might turn my request down anyway .

Oh, and I went to school with a Richard Head. He was my brothers' best friend. Parents were pretty old and out of touch so clearly didn't realise what they'd done!

Rolf · 10/06/2010 20:27

I love it that I'm the thread expect on pee .

Deb one of the things they asked me about, and included in the tests, was what happens when I'm in the bath or shower, or hear running water. During the test they turned the tap on to see what happened. I think that it would be worth a leaky lady appointment.

EddieIzzardismyhero · 10/06/2010 21:42

AH, dh wants to say a big thank you for the tip on islabikes - A's just arrived and dh is in love with it !

What A will think of it I've no idea!

OP posts:
DebInAustria · 10/06/2010 21:48

oMG at the thought of a leaky lady appointment in German - aargh, might have to bury my head in the sand for a little longer

Eddie - forgot to say what a bugger about the job situation

DoNotFeedMeBiscuits · 10/06/2010 22:13

eddie saw your comments on the ABE football thread - I was going to comment, but as usual, it got all horrible. I usually support England, unless they are playing Scotland. Equally, I will support Wales, Northern Ireland and also Ireland. I'm dead easy going me! (most of my colleagues seem to want England to get quite far, but not win, as they think the media would be unbearable!)

Rolf · 10/06/2010 22:14

Eddie I've listened to Paul McKenna and I found him too cheesy. Maybe after the lovely midwife on my birth CDs, he just seemed like a spiv who wanted my money and didn't truly love me

Oh and Amber - great news about your scan.

DebInAustria · 10/06/2010 22:24

whilst googling the bath issues, looks like it might be a different problem

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 11/06/2010 07:11

Rolf, there's a thread in health just now about stress incontinence where people are sharing experiences of TVT. Thought you might find it interesting.

abdnhiker · 11/06/2010 08:27

eddie when I went part time they never filled the other part of my job at all - a handy cost savings and that was a year ago... I'm not sure if they ever filled my post when I left too - but even in the boom years our department was really struggling.

neenz but E can wear tights! My two always are jealous of the girls in tights because it's so comfortable (and they have tights for long underwear so they know). If I had a girl I think i'd dress her in tights and tee-dresses all the time...

I worked yesterday and am working M,W,F next week which is brilliant!!! It's at a lower day rate because there's a significant training element to it (and I'm self-employed so don't get paid for training). The head of the company came by to talk to me and asked about if I'd be willing to go on a field course and I said yes... it's feeling positive but we're really scrambling childcare-wise at the moment. My nanny's not around yet and it's irregular work so I'm not sure how I could hire her yet. I've got an engineering textbook to read over the weekend (after the boys bday party on Saturday - eek!).

Amberc · 11/06/2010 08:42

Eddie are you causing trouble again?

PenguinNZ · 11/06/2010 08:52

Not really keeping up, so please bear with me! Actually, should that be bare with me? Having a complete mind blank.

Amber - Great news about the scan. I like Spider can't imagine Mark getting back to sleep after that news.

Thomas Beckett I am proud to say I do know, but only because of TS Elliot's Murder in the Cathederal. I was always more of a English lit girl rather than history. Actually, I even briefly considered the name Beckett for a boy before realising that saddling a child with the NN Becks would be a bit cruel.

Rolf - I wanted to cry after reading your post. You wrote with amazing dignity and I hope that whatever happens you are treated well.

My Grandfather was called Stuart Stewart and I went to school with a Russell Sprout.

The comments about nurseries etc made me chuckle a tiny bit. Ry has been looked after FT by either me or DH. Well, recently I've been wondering if I should put him in nursery for a couple of mornings a week so he gets more social time without me. Clearly whatever path you choose you worry if you've made the right one! Dewin - can you tell which of your students had SAHMs and which didn't?

PenguinNZ · 11/06/2010 09:07

Eddie - the job thing sounds barely legal. Glad you've got union access.

Dewin - the threads were brutal. Glad you're not taking them seriously. The posters bouncing btw threads were getting seriously obsessive. Altho typing in Welsh was just asking for trouble!

I used to have the bath thing pre pregnancy. Doesn't happen in a pool though. No bath here so don't know if it still happens. Thank you for googling Deb - I feel more reassured.

I think there was discussion about helmets earlier. Ry will never wear a sunhat, but loves wearing a helmet cos it means he's going on the bike. (He's been in one of these for over a year now).

EddieIzzardismyhero · 11/06/2010 12:56

Me? Causing trouble? What do you mean?

Nah, weren't me that started it miss! Just got involved in a thread on the ABE attitude of Scottish football fans. Some people take it sooooo seriously! I couldn't honestly give a rat's arse whether Scotland want us to win or not! All these threads on MN at the moment suggesting that football should be banned are seriously annoying though - I would rather poke my own eyes out than watch rugby/tennis/F1/golf, etc, etc but I don't call for it to be banned, I just turn the telly off!

I love international tournaments, I love all the hype and the anticipation and the excitements of the games. It's great fun - and I can't wait to share it all with my boys. Yes, there is a darker side to it, but why tar all footie fans with the same brush?

Right, off my soapbox.

As for my job, thanks for all the support. Thankfully I have a fantastic union rep so am hopeful that even the threat of setting him on my boss will make her see sense!

Rolf, pmsl at Mckenna not truly loving you!

AH, your job thing sound very interesting - fingers crossed that childcare works out for you.

penguin, Russel Sprout???? What were they thinking?!
