Just thought, maybe I should stop using the expression pmsl in the light of current conversations .

Neenz - yes I've just finished the Ina May book. I thought it was awesome. I wish I had read it instead of doing NCT the first time round. I can't really think how to articulate it, but somehow the two cover the same techniques, but NCT tells you superficially try massage, try relaxing, try breathing etc etc, but Ina May makes sense of why these things can help. Thank-you a great recommendation.

Today's celeb spot: Natalie Cassidy in Tescos filming at the checkout with a massive shop. I was in the next check out and may have made it onto the camera. Not good as I have been feeling and looking a bit grim all morning. According to a Twitter search she is filming a reality programme about having her first baby. So maybe she was stocking up on cake. I don't think she lives here though.

Amberc · 11/06/2010 14:14

Funny names: A guy I used to work with said he once had to introduce a new colleague at a networking do to all his acquaintances. He was mortified as her name was (phonetically) Myachy Cock! He eventually told her that in the UK Cock was pronounced Coe tee hee! Also someone at work was workig on a BA study and had two people in his team a guy called Ron Way and a german man Herr kraft!!! No joke - seriously!!

What does ABE mean? (guessing Anti British something?)

ktpie · 11/06/2010 15:20

Eddie and Spider - I suspected you might have already joined the RHS.

Rolf - I agree at the cheesiness of Paul McKenna but I found his techniques work, could be because my main problem is overeating and it encouraged me to slow down and eat less.

I used to work at a company where there was a salesman called James Bond, I used to have to say to new customers "I'll get James Bond to ring you back" they must have thought I was a loon.

Penguin - I've been wondering whether J gets enough social time with other kids his age. At the moment we don't go to anything regularly (not for lack of trying). When he does mix with other kids his age he seems to get on fine, a bit shy at first but I'm not sure that is a bad thing. I think whatever choices you make as a parent you end up worrying about whether you are doing the right thing.

DebInAustria · 11/06/2010 16:15

time for a quick post whilst Ethan plays - he has had a really rough week, this is the 1st day that he has played a little, the rest of the time he has been like a limpet, clinging onto me. He hasn't eaten either, and has survived by drinking milk I think with the odd biscuits. got to go , poo alert

Amberc · 11/06/2010 16:36

Aw I wish Ethan better Deb x

SpiderWilliam · 11/06/2010 17:33

Deb - Poor Ethan (and you too). Just LOLed at your request for help from Puree with cakes. That's how I feel.

Ktpie - thanks for thinking of us with the RHS offer. I am also now a member of the National Trust, so a fully paid up member of middle England.

EddieIzzardismyhero · 11/06/2010 18:56

Anyone But England!

Who is Natalie Cassidy?

Sorry to hear Ethan has been so poorly : (

DewinDoeth · 11/06/2010 19:14

Hahaha, they're probably yelling for me on that thread! (And I am ABE!)

Names - Chris P. Codd, a student of mine; also Laura Ashley and James Brown. But that's nothing, a friend of mine was at school with Roger Mee.

Can I say 2 vg posts from Penguin on Rolf and me (and Deb's) bath issue.

Not much to report here - birthday party happening tommorrow.

DewinDoeth · 11/06/2010 19:15

Sorry, just realised. I've been doing all the marking, and it's exam boards next week. I've done it a few times now - saying well done for good posts. Sorry.

Maybe I should start saying 'X, could do better; Y, you're not keeping to the point, and Z, see me.

EddieIzzardismyhero · 11/06/2010 21:07

Ah, course! Now I remember the name!

Was on my iphone and didn't have time to google !

abdnhiker · 11/06/2010 21:17

poor Ethan, hope he's on the mend Deb!

Duncan and Fraser's birthday party tomorrow - 24 chocolate cupcakes in the oven even though we're only having 8 kids - it's all the parents!!!

DebInAustria · 11/06/2010 21:53

Enjoy the parties everyone

Thanks for the sympathies about Ethan. It's been a really strange week with him, today he has started to play like I said but he has only eaten 2 small biscuits and about 4 grapes. The nappy that I had to rescue was awful - like newborn breastfed baby poo. Then after tea we were playing cards with the boys and Ethan was on my knee , he said n night and went to sleep on me.He hasn't had a temperature today, and no more stomach pains, but I did manage to look in his mouth and I think he's getting the molars at the back - maybe all 4, I could definitely see bumps and a little white showing through on one.So maybe this week has been all about teething, if it is be warned it's not nice!Fingers crossed that he's better for his birthday because otherwise I'm postponing the baking!

PenguinNZ · 12/06/2010 01:54

Bugger it - was planning to wait but I can't....I'm pregnant too! 7 weeks and feeling like crap.

Rolf · 12/06/2010 07:24

WOW Penguinl That's fabulous news! There are so many pregnancies on this thread!

Now Dewin, lots of us aren't pregnant so stay with us .

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 12/06/2010 07:47

Congratulations Penguin! More lovely news.

I plan to do some baking next weekend for S's birthday. We're sort of having two parties - one family one and one small toddler one. Am planning to do a victoria sponge and a chocolate cake for the family one. We're having a hungry caterpillar theme for the proper birthday party (because it's easy to buy stuff not because S likes the book and I think I'm going to do a load of cupcakes, decorate them and lay them out in a caterpillar shape. I'm hoping to do a lot of the baking next week and freeze everything.

I can't believe my baby is nearly two. He's currently in my bed, fast asleep while curled up lying on my tummy, and looks like such a baby angel.

I had a bit of a moment the other day. A RL friend told me she was expecting. Her due date is the same as for my 1st unsuccessful pregnancy. Obviously I didn't explain to her but it was really hard to disguise the lump in my throat.

DebInAustria · 12/06/2010 07:55

Congratulations Penguin, what lovely news to get up to this morning.

EddieIzzardismyhero · 12/06/2010 08:28

AH, enjoy the party! Didn't know your boys' birthdays were so close together .

Deb, the teething sounds awful .

penguin, yay yay yay!!!! How fab !

DG, the cakes sound lovely .

It is very hard when dates co-incide - I have one friend who's little boy's birthday is exactly the same as our twins' due date. Every year when he celebrates his birthday (he's 3 now) it makes me think about what life would have been like with our twinnies . And one of our closest friends in our NCT group had her baby on what would have been the 1st birthday of the 3rd little bean we lost to m/c. Again, it's hard not to dwell sometimes.

Big hugs.

EddieIzzardismyhero · 12/06/2010 08:29

penguin, are you still coming to visit in August?!

OP posts:
Rolf · 12/06/2010 08:45

Sorry DG. i struggle with anniversaries too. There are a couple of children I know whose birthdays I have made a point of now knowing about.

SpiderWilliam · 12/06/2010 08:49

Aww Penguin that is brilliant news. Sorry that you are feeling like crap though. Does it give you a due date similar to Amber and Poppy? DGT sorry that your friend's news made you feel sad.

My "baby angel" has been waking up earlier and earlier all week, and pulled 5.10 out of the bag this morning. Not sure why. Maybe because it is getting light so early: at 5.10 it was glorious . DH did the early shift but swapped at 7.30. I have a feeling that this counts as my "lie in" for the weekend.

Getting my haircut this morning. It's got progressively shorter all of last year and I ended by January feeling like I had lost something (maybe my youth ). I think I am going to make the most of pregnancy hair by trying to get it a bit longer. Still massively overdue for a cut though.

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 12/06/2010 09:07

Thank you everyone - sorry if sharing reminded you all of your own sad dates. It's hard to talk about this kind of stuff with people in RL - at least on the internet you don't get the pitying looks and awkward shuffles!

Abdn hope the party is great today. I'm looking forward to seeing lots of birthday pics over the next few weeks! I loved the mental image of Fraser on his tip toes trying to keep up with his big brother on his balance bike .

So sorry to read about Ethan Deb - poor wee mite. I'm sure that I did read that the molars emerging can be a bit grim. I hope he's back to his usual self soon.

Sympathy on the sleeping (or rather, wakening!) Spider. S was only still asleep because we had him out till 11pm last night. He got up shortly after I posted though. He's currently playing with his latest happyland addition sent to him by his godmother so I'm having a lazy morning and letting DH have a bit of a lie in (he did drive and let me have a few glasses of sparkly stuff last night even though he did all the driving in France). S's happyland is currently taking over the living room. His godmother came to visit a few weeks ago and thought it was the best thing ever so in recent weeks has sent the post office and we got the vets today.

Am I right in thinking Poppy hasn't been around much? Is she still in France

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 12/06/2010 09:10

Ooh, for the thread iphone fans - I got to have a play with a colleague's ipad yesterday and it was sooooo pretty. A family we met on holiday had one and it was loaded with movies and apps etc for their kids (they were travelling from the states). Bit frivolous, but fantastic for grown ups and little ones alike.

Of course, I really want an iphone 4 now as well, but am resisting temptation...
