Two days seems good compromise eddie . I think you are probably right about it being end of final salary plans so makes sense to try and avoid falling outside it.

Neenz that is very impressive holiday Reading- sounds like you will have a lovely break at this place.

Ah am glad that this contract seems to be panning out well as can see. And totally see your point that nursery not right for all children as i am with you that it is better me being unhappy than dd.

woman at work is cow and a half- there is lot more thy can be said but she isn't worth it. What goes around comes around.

Domestic enjoy the holiday and thanks for name info dewin.

Got to go as have to be a doggy...

DewinDoeth · 27/05/2010 19:24

Wrexham, eh Neenz? Come and visit - I haven't seen the twins since they were little! (We're not that close to Wrexham, but we do have fabulous countryside and things to do here!)

Poppy totally misread that last bit - I thought it was TMI!

Abdn sounds great about the job. I think - as you know - the whole academic job situation involves a lot of waiting and 'playing a long game'. I'm not where I want to be but I'm still on the merry go round... but if it works short term, then that's half the battle. And you do sound like someone who's not 100% satisfied as a SAHM. (Or maybe I've got it all wrong!

And Eddie too. Good planning.

Not much to say - invigilation this morning, book due to be submitted to the publishers next week, but it's under control. Well, it is today, might not be by Wednesday!

EddieIzzardismyhero · 27/05/2010 19:33

PMSL, I misread poppy's post too!!!!

Seriously impressed at holiday reading neenz - I find a bit of Judi Picoult normally hits the spot .

Off to the gym . . . .

DewinDoeth · 27/05/2010 19:39

Does that say something about us then, Eddie?

poppy34 · 27/05/2010 19:53

sorry post was meant to be innocent..not one of those saturday night filth threads

abdnhiker · 27/05/2010 20:04

I've started posting on an AIBU thread and am disagreeing with a regular... off to watch TV before the whole of MN decides to hate me....

PiggyPenguin · 27/05/2010 20:41

I was on that thread early on Abdn, but left before it got a bit shouty. Well done for sticking to your guns!

DebInAustria · 27/05/2010 21:28

We're back after a very long journey today involving cars, trains, plane, underground, train and car. - totalling about 14 hours on the go. Had a great time in the UK and I felt really sad to be leaving today. I loved talking to people - do you know they all spoke English and were so friendly. We looked at some houses(and no we've not sold yet)and schools, eaten lots of lovely English things and done some touristy things too.

DebInAustria · 27/05/2010 21:29

so what have I missed?

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 27/05/2010 21:46

Waaaaaaaahhhhhh. The forecast for my holiday destination is rubbish!!!

Welcome back debs - glad you had a good time.

Must go and pack some Scottish weather type clothes...

neenz · 28/05/2010 08:59

Welcome back Debs! Glad you had a good time - lol at 'everyone spoke English' . I hate it when I am abroad and can't communicate with people - I always feel rude if I can't speak the language and hate not being able to make myself understood. Let's hope you get that house sale very very soon.

Poppy, Biscuits and Amber are preggers!

So many BFPs I have probably forgotten one

DebInAustria · 28/05/2010 09:45

Wow Amber - congratulations - what fantastic news to come home to!

Thanks Neenz for filling me in on the most important stuff!

Goddess - my tips for travelling, lollies for take off and landing - you know the sort you probably never give to him, plus wipes as they are so sticky! Also don't travel with a child size fork in your hand luggage like I did - got stopped and interrogated at security but they still let me take it on!!Hope the weather changes for you, take layers like we did, when we went to a lead mine on Tues it had gone from 26 degrees at the weekend to 6 degrees, we wore almost every single item of clothing!

DebInAustria · 28/05/2010 09:49

Just got a provisional offer(35,000 less than the asking price which is OK but with fees we'll come out of this at a loss) for our house but they still haven't completed on their house yet, and there are a list of provisions too , some of which are OK but some we don't want to do - any of you got knowledge of business law?We already have bookings for next year and have received deposits which we have already paid tax on, they want the deposits to be transferred to them - what do you think? I feel that we did the work to get the bookings so we should keep the deposits.

Amberc · 28/05/2010 12:04

Ooh er - I can't tell if that's good or not Deb. Hope you get your questions answered by someone knowledgeable! Thanks for my congrats. I am still not quite believing it after 5 preggo tests but spend my day knicker checking as I'm so worried it will all end. Still now 7 days late for period so the latest it has ever been and my last test showed a line the second i did it so my hcg levels must be strong.

Domestic - weather predictions are usually wrong anyway - hope it gets better for you! When are you going?

Aberdeen, I see you as the voice of reason so I'm sure you are right and they are wrong.

Poppy - I also can't work out what you mean about being a doggy!

Just come back from the ENT specialist and Luke has to have an op to remove his tonsils and adenoids. He said his tonsils were enormous. He is getting obstructive sleep apnoea and that makes it fairly bad. I am beside myself at the thought of Luke having a general. And then a week of being in pain poor lamb.

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 28/05/2010 12:43

Afternoon all.

Amber for Luke but glad that this has been identified early on. Didn't you always think he might have sleep apnoea?

Deb thanks for the tips. No knowledge of business law I'm afraid. I can kind of see the argument for transferring the deposits as presumably these get refunded to the guests upon departure? However, I'd expect your buyers to cover your tax liability and maybe any currency exchange losses if that was applicable?

Off on holiday on Sunday . However, I've got a bit of a cloud over my head as I'm really worried about my throat. So worried, I've been too scared to go to the docs in case something is wrong. Google is very dangerous sometimes!

I've had lots of recurring bouts of inflammation. I've got some kind of lumps on the very back of my tongue and maybe in my throat (but I can't see). I'm hoping it's tonsil stones or an infection that needs anti-b's or something equally unpleasant but not serious. My GPs don't open on a Sat so will need to wait till I come back. Only 'fessed up to DH this week about it and he's a bit cross I haven't been to the docs. Think good thoughts for me. Hopefully I'm just being a bit of a drama queen and it's just a sore throat! Except it doesn't actually hurt.

Amberc · 28/05/2010 13:06

Do you remember when we all first went on facebook and we created that group? What was it called? I can't find it on my page any more.

Domestic - I doubt you have time to go to the gp now but you probably should when you get back. I think most people have lumps on the back of their tongues. Don't worry too much and spoil your hols.

Yes I did think Luke had sleep apnoea and adenoid probs but no doctor would believe me. Now I want to hit them all. The ENT guy said he would write to my doctor and I told him that I would happily rub the letter in my GPs face. He did look at me a bit strangely!

abdnhiker · 28/05/2010 13:18

Amber I felt like that about Fraser's surgery. Hugs - but hopefully it'll make his sleep better and that would make such a difference for him (and you).

And thanks for saying I'm the voice of reason. That thread is too full of royalty now so I've walked away. Did make me laugh though!

Deb how bad a deal is the offer? Will you go back to them? We tried to put in a lower offer for our house but paid more in the end because the seller refused to budge. (Fair enough, we were just trying to stay under the £250 stamp tax limit).

If you've paid tax on the booking deposits then could you compromise and transfer the deposits minus tax? Or just ask them to up the price to reflect your costs... But I know nothing about business law....

Amber - I have a feeling that Poppy's doggy game is similar to one we call horsey.

DebInAustria · 28/05/2010 19:26

Amber that's great news about Luke getting his surgery at last, I thought it sounded like Tristan and his sleep was 100 times better after the surgery so it is well worth it. I was a state whilst Tristan was in theatre and be prepared for him to be out of it when he comes round, I think that was the worst part, but it doesn't last long.

I'm not commenting on Poppy's doggy games!!

Goddess - naughty girl not going to the Dr. Fingers crossed all is OK after your holiday, put it to the back of your mind and have a lovely time, it's been a long time coming hasn't it, I remember you booking.

Abdn, we're prepared to accept the offer but at the moment it's all a bit vague

I have an announcement, and no I'm not pregnant - after all my talk of leaving Ethan another year before attempting to potty train, tonight he got the potty out after his bath, kept sitting on it and then weed in it , much to his delight. We made a big fuss of him so we'll see what happens - I couldn't believe it, the other 2 didn't do a wee on the potty for ages.So nice to share!

EddieIzzardismyhero · 28/05/2010 20:16

Quick post cos I'm absolutely exhausted - a very stressful week, but we've exchanged! And the other fantastic news is that my parents are now planning to relocate to be near us. Hurrah!

Deb, great news on the house and the potty .

Amber, I'm on your behalf cos you've been saying it's adenoid problems for ages and no one took you seriously. Hope it sorts his sleep out cos you'll need that done before No 2 arrives! Not surprised you're stressed though - very hard to have to deal with .

The FB group is called "why yes, that is a little bit of baby sick on my shoulder!" but no one's used it for a year!

DG, you're so worried about your throat. I'm sure it's nothing but if it's worrying you or causing you discomfort then it's better to get it checked out.

Had a lovely morning with spider and her gorgeous boy at Wisley today. Put some new photos on FB (I know, not unusual for me!! ) but one of A is just the absolute cutest, I love it [soppy mother emoticon]. Esp with his little dollop of suncream on his nose!!

Right off to put my feet up and give my amazing dh a big hug.

Nite nite x

DoNotFeedMeBiscuits · 28/05/2010 20:38

Deb welcome back, glad you had a good trip. I hope the offer is do-able and you can get an arrangement you're happy with. And hoorah for the Amazing peeing Ethan!
And no congratulations for me and Poppy? just Amber?

Eddie that's great news that you've exchanged, and how lovely that your parents are going to be nearer to you.

DG Have a lovely holiday, don't worry too much about your throat, scary things are very rare in young female non-smokers. Under 50s very rare indeed.

amber I'm glad you got someone to listen to you about Luke's adenoids/tonsils - hope it all goes very smoothly.

poppy34 · 28/05/2010 21:01

Hi quick post as done in (good sign) .

Deb glad your holiday was ok(and think you knew about my news didn't you)- re the transfer thing, I am no specialist but would imagine you could transfer them net of tax but would need to check .

Amber so pleased that you got an answer(although know it must be horrid to think of op)- I would get good and hormonal before you see gp. Although in my view they never apologise or explain(vividly remember ranting at the cowbag of a practice manager when try "lost " my maternity admission and could only offer me a failing hospital an hour away that would get nowhere).

Good news on house front eddie..

Can i agree with ah that doggy is a game like horsie where I have to pretend to be a dog and then bark. I don't know what you lot are thinking of .

poppy34 · 28/05/2010 21:02

And it's a game for e not dh!!!

poppy34 · 28/05/2010 21:03

Yes dh know how scary these things are but am sure it's nothing serious so enjoy your holidays

Amberc · 28/05/2010 21:06

Congrats Eddie! I want to look at the group to remind myself what everyone's real names are as I can't remember (I am terrible at things like that!)

Thanks for all the positive remarks about Luke. It's 19 August when he's pencilled in for. Deb did Tristan have the same op then? How old was he and any other info would be great.

Amberc · 28/05/2010 21:12

There are a few people who seem to be missing but they may well be called other things now (see how crap I am) Whinegums, G43, Parofleurmapo, systems adict, vivaglasvegas. I need to keep a list!
