July 2005 babies

Welcome all those with fresh new babies. Oh the joys and tribulations. Post the lot here!

I hope I haven't overlooked a previous thread here for us. Anyway, here goes.

DS2 was due 3 July but arrived 29 June, 9lb 6oz. He has been growing nicely and is 4 weeks old today. I am breastfeeding and have already had mastitis and thrush but am pushing on with it. Biggest problem is sometimes he sleeps too long in the day and then wakes up a lot in the night, not that he stays awake for long, just long enough to feed and go back to sleep. The Midwife says that I shouldn't worry about his lack of wakefulness for the moment in the absence of any other issues, and to see how he is going around the 6 week mark. She also said I should wake him up during the day, which I have been reluctant to do, but I think I will have to do. Anyone else got an overly sleepy baby who doesn't seem to be growing out of it quickly enough?

Gilly - total normal behavious for 2 week old. He wants to be close to you and not be in moses basket. That will change as he gets older - way too young for a routine. Rather than waste energy trying to stop him doing it - get yourself comfy and line up good TV programmes. Also don't forget yummy snack food

Gilly76 · 11/08/2005 10:49

Mears,

Thats a weight off my mind! Just what I needed to hear! Its confusing when some people say start as you mean to go on, while others say let your baby lead you.

DH had the same opinion as you, that its too early to try and impose a routine or expect him to go to sleep on his own. I'll keep trying to get him to settle alone, but if he's falling asleep on me for a while longer, I'll not worry about it.

Thanks again,

Gilly

hi gilly76, I am having probably the exact same thing with my dd (16 days old), we were worried that it might be colic, but i think like you, dd is not crying inconsolably, more just like she's a bit p*ssed off!
we are just surrendering ourselves at the moment to evenings cuddling, rocking, rubbing etc and just hope she calms down a bit soon. we are looking into cranial osteopathy too, do let me know how you are doing too, we seem to be in it together!

Harriett · 11/08/2005 17:07

oh and I forgot to add that we also were trying routines, but have given them up, she does seem a lot happier since she does her own thing.. and I also have to admit to using a dummy as she just loves to suck between feeds, we just hope we haven't created a rod for our own backs!

merryberry · 11/08/2005 17:11

I took Vin to an osteo session yesterday (as he had such a heavy duty long birth). I also had my knee worked on, good stuff.

She started on him like an adult i.e. at the sacrum: he was tight around the pelvis and she manipulated that a while. Then she started on his head but only got half way thru her exploration. The room we were given was too bright and stuffy and he started to cry. So we oout him in shade and carried on trying to fix my knee and we're due back saturday to work on his head again. She was able to do it while he was boobfeeding. Vin was a bit grizzly yesterday but has been an angel of calm fedding sleeping and SMILING loveliness so far today.

xx

mrsdarcy · 11/08/2005 18:09

Vin's smiling, Merryberry? Ohh, that's lovely. I'm all emotional...

merryberry · 11/08/2005 19:37

It is MrsD - his whole face, not just wind, in reply to mine. He's done it twice for me and once for dp. I got goosebumps and tears started up in my eyes. I wasn't expecting to feel that. It's surely one of the most intense love experiences in my life. xxx

Eulalia · 11/08/2005 20:45

Gilly76 - your ds and mine have the same birthday Mine is two weeks old tomorrow also. I remember my dd being very unsettled in the evening. It always seemed to be when dh came home from work and went on most of the evening but she grew out of it.

Now ds2 is a different kettle of fish - he is just a dream. Hardly needs burping, and if he gets hiccoups they only last a few minutes and he's off to sleep again. Long may it contine

Merryberry - ahhh!

I had tears in my eyes today with my ds1 who is 6. I took him out for a last treat before school starts next week. He was talking about sleeping beauty and asked if I'd like to sleep for a long time. I said no and he said he'd kiss me to wake me up and this is from an autistic child who supposedly has no empathy!

hoxtonchick · 11/08/2005 21:42

big s for eulalia's ds1 & vin!

hoxtonchick · 12/08/2005 21:05

dd had her 6 week check today. everything was fine, she was very brave when she had her bcg jab - having a boob in her mouth helped considerably. she now weighs 10lbs8oz (4.77kg), from 6lbs11oz at birth - i am very proud .

and a big thank you to MI for looking after ds while we were at the dr!

merryberry · 13/08/2005 07:35

wow hc she's not long off doubling her birthweigt already! congratulations, xx

mrsdarcy · 13/08/2005 15:27

What lovely news Eulalia.
Well done hc and mb on their clever babies!

I am wearing my pre-DD jeans today! They are a bit tight and were bought when I put on weight last year, but I am still very pleased with myself!

hoxtonchick · 13/08/2005 18:58

wow, well done mrsd!

merryberry · 14/08/2005 09:36

mirror mirror on the web, who's the cutest MB kidlet?

Vincent is!

merryberry · 14/08/2005 09:38

i LOVE WEARING MY jeans - they are huge too but act like a corset on my jellybelly MrsD. And it is great to wear clothes with structure again after endless floaty PG things.

HC, today I will be eating mostly fruit and stirfry. I am sooooo heavy my knees are cracking and all my other joints ache from stirfry. So new MB starts here. I can't wait to go swimming though. Not sure I can wait to have me sticthes checked before I lob myself in the pool next door...sigh

hub2dee · 14/08/2005 09:59

cutey indeedy.

Lolasmum · 14/08/2005 10:39

Vincent is very cute! Well done HC on the growing baby front. I'm taking dd2 to be weighed on Tuesday. I'm quite curious... I haven't tried my jeans on yet.

Eulalia · 14/08/2005 11:03

Merryberry - awww! lovely photos. Must get myself organised to get some photos sorted out.

Mrs D - can't wear jeans or anything tight due to the scar so am digging out things I've not worn in ages.

HC - wow that is great weight gain!

Am already tired with birthday celebrations and its not even here yet - small party here Friday night. At another birthday BBQ bash yesterday (60th) and family party today. My twin sister is staying over tonight so we can share the day tomorrow...

So this is my last day of being 39 !!!!!!!

hub2dee · 14/08/2005 11:27

Blimey, are you worried Eulalia ? 40 !!!!!!!

I'm gonna be a baby 35 on the 24th . People like you make me feel young !

What a cutey Merryberry!

Happy birthday tomorrow Eulalia. Not long after posting I took my jeans off as they weren't very comfortable!

Harriett · 14/08/2005 12:35

aw, merryberry, he is pretty damn cute!
and well done hc for bouncing baby Florence and to MrsD for getting into your jeans!
I have to admit, even after eating what seems like my body weight in chocolate through the pregnancy, I am actually lighter now than I was before I got pregnant- I am ashamed however that it was undoubtedly down to not drinking the colossal amounts of wine that I did before...
But my scar is still ever so sore so I am still in baggy pants for the time being.

Harriett · 14/08/2005 12:36

whoops, forgot to wish Eulalia a very happy birthday for tomorrow! x

mrsdarcy · 14/08/2005 12:37

Harriett! (Although I'm sorry your scar is sore. Have you tried taking Arnica?) I'm off to have some chocolate tart now...

hub2dee · 15/08/2005 01:57

morning ladies...

Happy Birthday Eulalia !!!

dd: milk spots on the way out, cheeks starting to resemble those of a hampster.

dw: pretty good. Course of ABs over (mastitis) but still sore and not feeling 100%. Docs tomorrow (today !).

Thank you for your e-mail help mears. X
