July 2005 babies

Welcome all those with fresh new babies. Oh the joys and tribulations. Post the lot here!

I hope I haven't overlooked a previous thread here for us. Anyway, here goes.

DS2 was due 3 July but arrived 29 June, 9lb 6oz. He has been growing nicely and is 4 weeks old today. I am breastfeeding and have already had mastitis and thrush but am pushing on with it. Biggest problem is sometimes he sleeps too long in the day and then wakes up a lot in the night, not that he stays awake for long, just long enough to feed and go back to sleep. The Midwife says that I shouldn't worry about his lack of wakefulness for the moment in the absence of any other issues, and to see how he is going around the 6 week mark. She also said I should wake him up during the day, which I have been reluctant to do, but I think I will have to do. Anyone else got an overly sleepy baby who doesn't seem to be growing out of it quickly enough?

happy naughty forties Eulalia
have a wonderful day at the start of a fulfilling decade. xxx

MommyD · 15/08/2005 09:44

Morning all! Not posted in a while - rather inundated!! Will read all the posts later when I return from shopping. I hope you are all doing well!

ds3 is fantastic. Great sleeper and feeder - he put on 14oz last week. He's 5 weeks tomorrow. I'm finding breastfeeding has got easier with each baby. He is still feeding for 10 -15 minutes and then sleeping for between 2 and 4 hours. I don't think I've yet had the real impact of three such little kiddies - had help and ds3 has just slotted in so far and only cries when hungry and then settles well. I suspect that this may all change soon....

ds2 was 2 yesterday - so I have a 3 year old, a 2 year old and a newishborn!

Lolasmum · 15/08/2005 18:06

Happy Birthday Eulalia!

merryberry · 15/08/2005 21:37

ok party animals. a non-baby question! gasp shock horror merryberry looks up from baby's lovely face

we're having a party for my dps 40th and vin's 0th. i've got 35 confirmed guests and have to place a booze order this week. whaddya reckon for quantities...anyone done this before?

i was thinking a dozne bottles of bubbly, and a dozen white plonk plus some beer selection and soft drinks.

does that sound generous enough for a mixed bag of family and friends? many thanks for any experience shared!

hub2dee · 15/08/2005 21:56

I think Oddbins will do you a sale or return, with free glass hire ITH.

merryberry · 16/08/2005 08:38

well we had a very funny convo last night and ordered 12 bottles bubbly, 12 bottles wine, 40 bottles stella: the convo basically boiled down to 'your friends are bigger pishheids than my friends oh not they're not your family are' etc etc

maybe not enough booze as 35 is our conservative estimate - but we are just over road from an offy so we'll wing it. and thanks h2d, xfx

Lolasmum · 16/08/2005 08:56

I would go for more beer . People who drink beer will probably have at least 3 bottles each. Well, our friends would anyway.... Wine sounds about right.

mrsdarcy · 16/08/2005 09:11

Hope your party is good Marryberry. We are trying to organise DD's christening so will be posting a similar request soon!

I'm impressed that you can talk/think about non-baby things. We are going to a lunch party next weekend and I have been warned not to:
(1) talk about breasts, including nipples - mine or anyone else's;
(2) talk about or show anyone my truss; or
(3) talk about my marvellous new Big Pants, which make the truss superfluous.

What on earth have I turned into?

Oh blimey, I can hear DS2 saying to DS1 (grubs' up....it's a poo it's a poo....too smelly..."

merryberry · 16/08/2005 11:16

well i might do that, get more beer. only the party is just 2-6pm and then they have to go down the pub so i can settle the baby around about 7pm. and hide the drunken licentiousness of our friends from my mother who is staying the night....so maybe we won't. argh. decisions decisions.

no truss talk. hmm. you can still talk about sticthces and bowel movts and constipation and ....

merryberry · 16/08/2005 13:05

poor vin! poor boy p'd in his own face while i had him lifted cleaning bakskide. my did he howl. my did i choke not laughing at him!

mrsdarcy · 16/08/2005 13:49

Poor Vin! DS1 peed in his own mouth once, and also in the health visitor's!

hub2dee · 16/08/2005 18:01

good lad.

Eulalia · 16/08/2005 20:02

Peed in the HV's mouth !

Thanks for the birthday wishes. Turned out to be something of a weekend with various celebrations going through Fri-Mon. Yesterday which was my actual birthday I couldn't face the champagne I've been saving for months. So am having it at the weekend when things will be less hectic. Also was getting stressed with my twin sister who couldn't be less like me and after her staying the night I was ready for her to go home.

Not the slighest bit bothered being 40 - was much more upset when I was 30. Think its having baby that has helped

ds back to school today (relief!) and dd started playgroup. I spent an hour this afternoon lying in bed eating a chocolate ice cream and watching crap on TV. Bliss. First moment I've had to myself since I got out of hospital, actually probably first moment since end of term in June....

Anyway got to go now, crying kids...

Harriett · 17/08/2005 09:31

sorry merryberry, I missed your booze question- I am really disappointed as I could have used my brain for something other than 'warm the bottle, change the nappy, eat the biscuits'... and I am an ex-Oddbins manager too. boo. If you need any more advice do let me know!
Glad to hear you had a lovely weekend-long birthday celebration Eulalia, and more Champagne this weekend too!
We are having a 'welcome Dulcie' party up at my parents house on Sunday, so have been organising booze myself- pink bubbly of course for our little pink one. And of course I had to go and buy myself a lovely new pink dress to match my baby. now just got to get dh into a pink shirt...

merryberry · 17/08/2005 10:13

SMILES at Harriet: and blue trimmed cake and blue balloons and blue banners...I've gone a bit nutsoid on this one

Well I'm sorry to say we went to Majestic cos its so close, not oddbins. We're 400 quid poorer and feeling like real grown ups cos we are actually catering a party rather than hiding the valuables, warning the neighbours and lining up the VERY LOUD TUNES!

mrsdarcy · 17/08/2005 14:54

Eulalia - about the children being at school/playgroup! Today we are mostly shouting and asking Star Wars question. How the hell am I supposed to know why Jabba the Hutt is so fat?!

Also my boobs seem to think they are catering at Merryberry's party or for your 40th. They will not stop spraying milk everywhere

ALSO I have offered to cater for and acconmmodate a family of 6 on Friday. If social services could see the state of the house they would probably put us all into care.

However, I have found a bottle of Bombay Sapphire that I didn't know we had.... And DD is scrumptious

Eulalia · 17/08/2005 18:37

Mrs D - at least they are quite sensible questions. My ds asks things like "what is a breadstick made of?" Answer "bread of course". Why is it made of bread? etc etc

And dd keeps on informing me that the baby is crying when he is doing it right next to me at top volume!

Merryberry - hope your party goes well. Sounds a bit more organised than my weekend celebrations. Actually all I want to do this weekend is lie on the sofa, watch a DVD and drink that champagne...

ds was weighed today - 19 days old and he is 8lbs 5 1/2 oz so has put on over a pound since birth

latearrival · 17/08/2005 22:36

Hello everyone

Have finally made it to the computer and dd is just beginning to wake up. Very belated Happy Birthdays to Harriet and Eulalia and any others I've missed. My news is that we still haven't made a final decision on dd's name! I said we would make an announcement tomorrow on my Dad's birthday - and we are still going round in circles.

May have more time on Friday so will give a few stats about my brood then. Hub2dee, I hope Dee is feeling better and the mastitis hasn't returned. I had mastitis with ds and was treated with acupuncture (dh is acupuncturist which helped!) and treatment can also help with energy levels and recovery from previous bouts of mastitis. It's just a thought.

Must go to dd. Hope Merryberry and family have a great party.

Lolasmum · 18/08/2005 09:22

All this talk of parties is making me want one. Next one for us though is not going to have any how much beer to buy dilemmas. It's dd1s birthday next month and she's been talking about her birthday party since her last one. The guest list is forever changing.

I had dd2 weighed on Tuesday, aged 1 month and 1 day she weighed exactly 10lbs. It took dd1 until she was 3 months to hit the 10lb mark! Good to know that the endless feeding is actually achieving something.

Its dd1's last at nursery today before the nursery holidays. I'm going to be at home, on my own with 2 of them for the next 2 and a bit weeks until we go on holiday. This is going to be an 'interesting' experience. Not made any easier by the fact that I've been working from home as the company I work for have been having staffing problems. I must stop being so conscientious!

Hope everybody else is still surviving.

hub2dee · 18/08/2005 13:09

dd got weighed on Tuesday @ 6 weeks (4 prem) she is now 3.56 kilos (about 7lbs 13oz) - finally above the average weight of a newborn (3.45 kilos IIRC), which has been a bit of a 'goal' in my head IYSWIM. Very chuffed she is doing well. Starting to fill out her Mountain Bugggy Carrycot big time !!!!

I have taken a few more photos over the last month which I'll upload in a day or so. Not quite sure we're up for a party for her yet, (nor for my bday in a week or so - just too knackered) but seeing as everyone else is, LOL...

Glad the big 40 left no emotional scars, Eulalia ... sure you were just TOO TIRED to notice.

I think for my birthday I'd like nothing more than a trip to the cinema and a meal with dw without a baby feed in the middle. .

latearrival - interestingly, dw did receive accupuncture treatment for the first bout of mastitis, but not for the second. TBH, I'm not sure she felt any significant benefit from it, but possibly it helped. She's doing fine now though. thanks.

pinkmama · 18/08/2005 22:14

Hi everyone. just been away for few days showing Violet off to friends and family up north. She is still being remarkably well behaved and has just so easily slipped into our lives that dh and I are terrified we might forget her and leave her somewhere. Guess the 3rd has to fit in whether they like it or not. Slightly anxious about her birthmark. Right between eyes and it is slowly growing. I frightened myself to death by googling them, some scarey things out there! HV said it needed assessing to see how deep it goes, which backs up stuff I read on web, but GP was very dismissive and said not much you can do whatever type it is. Not sure if I should quit worrying or go see a different GP. Has anyone any experience with them?

Happy belated birthday Eulalia.
merryberry, Vin is v cute!
Harriet . What can I say, lighter than pre pregnancy already! I am with Pamina3 on the weight. Was a stone over to start with, but I get such massive cravings for high sugar foods at the moment there is no way I will lose it for now!

Glad everyone is doing well. X

mrsdarcy · 18/08/2005 23:26

Pinkmama, I'm with you on the weight as well! It's the main thing keeping me breastfeeding

I don't have any experience of birthmarks, but I do have experience of scaring my socks off by looking things up on the internet! The best advice I was given was PLEASE DON'T! What sort of birthmark does Violet have?

Harriett - I'm living in Pink World as well! I am not usually girly at all but DD is looking awfully like a marshmallow

Good luck looking after 2, Lolasmum.

Great news about Camille's weight gain, Hub, and I'm glad DW is feeling better .

Latearrival - how long is your shortlist for DD's name? Are you getting close to a decision? DH registered DD only today (she is 5 weeks old) and I was nervous he would change her name around as he seems to have become keener on her middle name. He stuck to the ornginal plan, thank goodness.

Eulalia · 19/08/2005 08:01

Latearrival - hope you come up with a name soon. I find its worse the more you think about the name. We had two boys for ds2 and were still swithering as I was coming round. Even in my woozy state I wanted to make a decision so that dh could go home and tell the world. Glad I did as ds just seems to fit his name now.

hub2dee - wow on the weight gain. She is catching up on my ds2. Actually he is running on the small side at the moment (25th centile) and with ds1 we had the opposite problem to you in that he was born late but small. 2nd centile at birth but now is very tall.

Eulalia · 19/08/2005 08:02

oops that should read "two boys names".

pinkmama · 19/08/2005 08:42

MrsD, think its a strawberry mark, but its right between her eyes (couldnt me in more of a prominent place I dont reckon) and stuff I have seen says that they need checking if near eyes. I will see a different Gp for her 6 week check and see what they say.

I am with you and Harriet with the pinkness too! With DD1 I was determined not to put her in pink and girly stuff (was terribly right on about gender stereotyping at time, since learnt that they end up doing it all anyway!), but this time I have gone mad, had to get some more babygrows because we didnt have enough pink. I am in pink girlie heaven
