Welcome all those with fresh new babies. Oh the joys and tribulations. Post the lot here!

I hope I haven't overlooked a previous thread here for us. Anyway, here goes.

DS2 was due 3 July but arrived 29 June, 9lb 6oz. He has been growing nicely and is 4 weeks old today. I am breastfeeding and have already had mastitis and thrush but am pushing on with it. Biggest problem is sometimes he sleeps too long in the day and then wakes up a lot in the night, not that he stays awake for long, just long enough to feed and go back to sleep. The Midwife says that I shouldn't worry about his lack of wakefulness for the moment in the absence of any other issues, and to see how he is going around the 6 week mark. She also said I should wake him up during the day, which I have been reluctant to do, but I think I will have to do. Anyone else got an overly sleepy baby who doesn't seem to be growing out of it quickly enough?

I've just "done" my first day alone with the children - my in-laws left this morning. The day has gone rather well really but that said there is still the whole evening/bedtime routine to deal with!

Bagpuss, as well as both living in the NW, we are also both married to lawyers! I wonder if they know each other in RL! We're realising what a small world it is up here (we haven't lived here for long).

MB - PMSL at your moves!

Eulalia · 03/08/2005 20:20

Hi - Just to say I've posted my annoucement here birth announcement with all the details of the birth. I'll be back on to chat when things have settled down more. dh is off on Paternity leave this week so am making the most of my time with him around.

hub2dee · 03/08/2005 21:48

oooh... dd got weighed yesterdat. Wee thing was born 4 weeks early, 4 weeks ago (was her due date yesterday) and has gone from 1.94 kilos to 2.83 kilos (4lbs 4 to 6lbs 4) !!!!!!!!!!!

Gonna have to get a much bigger shoe box.

mrsdarcy · 03/08/2005 22:47

Great news Hub! See - we 4lb-ers make up for it don't we? . How is your DW doing?

Bagpuss30 · 04/08/2005 07:40

Oh, that's excellent news Hub .

Mrsd, forgot to say congratulations on Harriet's results too, you must be very relieved.

hub2dee · 04/08/2005 09:09

DW is doing very good. Happy. Expressing like a cow.

I'm at home full time, so that's handy - we can both suffer sleep deprivation.

Noticed dd's ickle fingers starting to very slowly podge out a bit.

hub2dee · 04/08/2005 16:30

erm... ladies...

Do babies at this age routinely get tiny spots / develop red blotchy areas around same ? Anything we can do to make her look a little less splodgy ?

TIA.

Bagpuss30 · 04/08/2005 16:44

Yes they do Hub. ds2 has some atm. They are called milk spots I think. Whatever you do, do not squeeze them, they will go of their own accord.

Sorry for brief post, one handed typing atm.

hub2dee · 04/08/2005 16:57

Thanks Bagpuss. Just been hitting the archives for milk spots... seems v. v. common, and just at the time you want to show baby off, LOL.

Doesn't seem like there's a lot to be done either - wash with water regularly, really. That's all.

merryberry · 04/08/2005 17:34

vanity thy name is MAN!

Harriett · 04/08/2005 18:48

hello again everyone- I have joined the one-handed typing club! hope you are all well.
my lovely little Dulcie is 9 days old and an absolute dream- we have even been shopping twice as she was badgering daddy to buy mummy a nice birthday present for mummy's birthday tomorrow (that's my girl- a little leo just like her mum, poor old dh) She sleeps a little less each day and is getting more interested in her surroundings. I am feeling a whole heap better after the horrors of last week, it all seems like a long time ago now.
anyway, just wanted to say hi and send big kisses to all the babes from me and Dulcie. x

hub2dee · 04/08/2005 19:17

Oh stop cackling, mb.

Did Dulcie ensure mummy is getting something sparkly, Harriett ? LOL

Eulalia · 04/08/2005 19:53

Hi again -

Paul is doing really well - 6 days old now and the midwife was in today - he's not only reached his birthweight but has surpassed it already. He weighed 3280g at birth and now weighs 3360g. So very pleased

He had a tiny bit of jaudice but the weather has been lovely and sunny so its cleared up. Had another relaxing day sitting at the harbour with dh siping a drink while the older kids played in the sand.

Hope everyone is well. Got to go dd is pulling at baby.

mrsdarcy · 04/08/2005 20:09

Everyone sounds so HAPPY! It's lovely having these gorgeous babies isn't it?

Thank you everyone for all your kind words about Harriet's test results. She's still behaving like a completely normal baby which is fabulous.

Harriett - I'm sending sparkly vibes your way! I told DH when DS1 was born that an eternity ring would be nice, then when none materialised warned him that I would keep having babies until I got one. I finally got one for Christmas, when I was pregnant with Harriet! . Materialist? Moi?

Your day sounds lovely, Eulalia. DD had some jaundice too and still has a touch but just enough to make her look quite suntanned!

I'm SO glad I was induced at 38 weeks as DD was weighed today and she is 9lb 7oz - she has gained 1.5lbs in just under 3 weeks. The thought of giving birth to such a big 'un makes me wince

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 04/08/2005 20:43

mrsdarcy

i have just been reading your threads

I had a stillbirth in April and am now TTC and am pretty miserable and v desperate

I am so thrilled to hear of Harriets safe arrival. It gives me so much hope!

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

merryberry · 04/08/2005 21:15

{{{{{{{{{{HUGE HUG}}}}}}}}} and much luck from me to you CP.xxx

mrsdarcy · 04/08/2005 22:26

Oh ChocolatePeanut, I'm so sorry you are going through this. It was April when I lost Maisie so I expect you are going through a horrible summer just I did last year. I didn't think that a year on I would feel so happy again. I do hope it happens for you as well.
x

Lolasmum · 05/08/2005 10:00

Glad your dd likes shopping Harriett. I took dd2 yo the jigsaw sale yesterday and she d
wouldn't stop crying. Not my most succesful shopping trip. Dh is very pleased with dd2!

CP, best wishes to you and will look out for a post from you in the anti-natal threads soon!

And now on to my current favourite subject - my nipples! Has anybody tried nipple shields? Do they help the cracks to heal? I've got such a large crack on my left one that I think it's not far from dropping off!

hub2dee · 05/08/2005 11:10

Happy Birthday Harriett !

Hope you're winning on the pressie stakes, LOL.

Bagpuss30 · 05/08/2005 11:14

Ha ha Mrsd, all I can say is just count my stiches . Glad Harriet is doing so well.

Hub, if it makes you feel any better, ds2 has a lovely spot on the end of his nose, so no old ladies will be cooing over him today .

Eulalia, you sound very chilled. I am as I sit here in my pjs with mayhem around me.

CP, good luck from me also. x

Lolasmum, I used shields with ds1 which gave some temporary relief. If you do use them, make sure you don't use them for too long as it can affect your supply apparently, otherwise they are very good.

Well, I have ordered a new sling today - a Wilkinet. I have given up with the baby bjorn as I think my ample cleavage is getting in the way, also ds is so big that there is scarcely enough room for the two of us to be comfortable. So, Hoxtonchick, I am trusting your judgement on this one and hope it means I can finally get out a bit more easily .

hub2dee · 05/08/2005 11:32

Bagpuss30, I am glad it is not just the old ladies in my neck of the woods who will today be deprived the sight of wonderbabe, LOL.

Actually, her spots are clearing up a bit after the exfoliative facewash acid treatment lotion (joke).

Will youpost what you think about the Wilkinet ?

Think I'm going to go buying something very soon.

Lolasmum · 05/08/2005 12:27

Hub, a health visitor who I saw when dd1 was little said sudocrem would clear up the spots. I didn't try it though so I can't let you know what I think.

Bagpuss, I'm expressing at the moment from my left side to try and help the crack clear up. Surely a nipple shield can't be any worse than that?

hub2dee · 05/08/2005 12:48

Hi Lolasmum, dw tried a tiny amount of Sudocrem yesterday but IMHO Camille looks redder in the face, so maybe it's a tad strong. I think simply waiting it out with regular washing is probably the best bet as sooooo many babies seem to get them and they go pretty quickly...

Bagpuss30 · 05/08/2005 13:02

Dunno, Lolasmum. I can remember being told though that with shields it can do long term because you don't have direct contact with the baby so aren't stimulated to produce extra milk in the same way. Not sure about expressing though. What about getting some breast shells? They are quite good for releiving discomfort. The Avent set have some for milk collection and also a ventilated pair which can help with healing - have used these myself also.

Hub, will report back when I have tried it. I'm sure it would be perfect for you as it can take babies from 5lbs, whereas baby bjorn will only take them from 8.

hoxtonchick · 05/08/2005 13:56

oooh, well done on the shopping front bagpuss, me, dd & my ample bosoms are getting on very well the wilkinet. what colour did you go for? we have green striped cotton - v. summery.

dd has definitely decided sleep is dull. loads of smiles, especially for ds. i had her in bed with me last night & we both slept badly so i think we need to persevere with the basket - i reckon she wakes up more when she's right next to me as the smell of milk is just too tempting.

right, going to persuade ds to have a nap so i can sleep too (dp & dd can have special time together) .
