at dead pets - you lot are so funny!!! I am weeping and when DH comes home to see me with mascara down my face we'll think the worst has happened!

spot I didn't get a +ve test with DD until I was more than 6 weeks - just -ves and then blanks for a while. There's time yet ...

zoejeanne · 29/04/2010 20:23

Oh, and please could you do me a favour? Could you fill out this (v short) survey - down on the right hand side of the page, at the bottom. "win a luxury weekend in Yorkshire" I'm supposed to be getting 2000 responses, but so far only have 200 Of course if you are the lucky winner of the luxury weekend, I will promise you a meet up while your here and force Trace and Jolly to come too

SummerLightning · 29/04/2010 20:36

Zoe, I have done your survey.
BUT you have reminded me, we are going on holiday to near the Dales at the end of May. Could come and meet up with some of you northerers?? In York or Harrogate or somewhere. We are staying Skipton. It's the last week in May.

Oh spot sorry but am definitely going to be in London on Sat....bummer. You could ask jj on facebook though, maybe she didn't notice you asking.

Sniggering at the dead pets chat.

Beans33 · 29/04/2010 20:44

done. But didn't know anywhere to visit in York!

OP posts:
JamInMyWellies · 29/04/2010 21:00

Zoe am about to do your survey. I love York and the surrounding areas we spent loads of Summer holidays in that area when we were younger. There used to be a shop in Skipton which sold Fimo modelling clay all 4 of us girls were obsessed with making tat from the clay and it was the only place we could ever find it.

Rubes write a letter. Shocking behaviour.

Shmoks has got the vom bug now Archie had it Mon-Wed. Then this afternoon shmoks just projectiled in the car and then around 5 more times all over me. Gross! He is a sad wee soul though his poor little tummy you can see contracting with the effort of being sick.

Crap pants and poo too the rubbish weather. We are meant to be digging over the allotment in prep to plant in the next couple of weeks.

Right back to the PM debate. Have already voted. How does everyone feel about the election?

zoejeanne · 29/04/2010 21:21

Thanks for the survey guys

Summer Trace and Jolly and I are trying to arrange a meet up for late May, so it would be great if you could join us. I've just sent you a friend request for fb (don't know how I missed you before) with my email address - if you email me I can add you into the plans. Otherwise, my parents live v close to Skipton, so I could always come over there.

I'm quite mad right now. Our phone line went down in a thunderstorm at the weekend, and took the BT vision box with it (but fortunately not broadband - phew, can still MN happily). The phone got sorted on Tuesday, but the instructions BT sent me for rebooting the box haven't worked. So I rang them for further advice and it turns out we need a new adapter, which will go in the post tomorrow. So that means no telly til next week, due to the bank holiday. And annoyingly I can't get all the wires plugged into the right bits so I can watch old fashioned terrestrial or even DVDs. And I wanted to try to be studious tonight and watch the debate. Tut

waitinggirl · 29/04/2010 21:29

OHMIGOD! i have been crying with laughter, reading out all your hamster/dead animal stories out to dh. oh, you do cheer me up.

went to work - it was better than expected (as ever). i think i have to sort my head out about the whole thing - i find it incredibly hard, and dread dread dread it, but in the end i seem to be fairly good at it, and everyone says teaching is hell for the first year. ugh ugh ugh.

must go to bed. soooo tired. night, night, lovelies.

Veggiemummy · 29/04/2010 22:33

I've done the survey ZJ hope I win!

WG it's always hard when your in a job with a steep learning curve. It always feels a bit like you are
drowning. I'm sure you are doing much better than you think. However, don't just stay in it because you might feel guilty. You need to be doing what you want to be doing. There are enough people around who will happily make you feel guilty don't do it to yourself.

SummerLightning · 29/04/2010 22:39

ZJ how exciting re meet up!! I will e-mail you.

wg do you enjoy the teaching while you are doing it? I am sure that even teachers that love it don't like the preparation.

rubes also think it sounds like Boris and Barbs are very rude. Were they implying that you shouldn't be broke as your DH is a doctor?? Or am I reading too much into what you said (in your made up response to them)

So my friends came round today with their DS (same age as my DS) and their brand new DS (aged 1 week). I held the new baby and DS went NUTS!! Tears everywhere, wail wail, gnash gnash of teeth. Oh dear. Doesn't bode well. First time he did it I gave the baby back, but my friends insisted that I held him again, and we decided to ignore DS. He did it again though, and eventually calmed down a bit but kept whinging constantly on and off until I handed the baby back (about 15 mins later). Makes me feel a bit better that he doesn't just love Daddy though . Gosh he was being a drama queen though. He's going to turn into devil child when the new one turns up isn't he?

Rubena · 30/04/2010 09:37

Strewth Summer - wonder if I'll have that too with a newbie?
Must be a lil bit of a nice feeling at the same time.

Right, back from my second UK dentist appointment. Got to the bottom of the procedure here as it was even LESS of a thorough check than last time. Las time different dentist, but at least they did a little scrape around and a polish - this time NOTHING!! I said whats the deal? back home I leave a dental checkup with tears streaming down my face and bleeding gums as they do such a thorough job and get all the crap off "oh right" said the dentist, "That's a dental hygeinist appointment - you really should book one of those, we can get you in in about 2 months and it's £50" !!!
£50
Veggie - have I been away from home way too long? I know it's covered as routine in the US with your job etc but I thought it was free in Australia too for that? Or do they charge back home for a scale and poilish?
Either way, I'm getting it done, and apparently have no holes to speak of but with that casual "peek" in my mouth they did, I think I'd have a better idea if I had a cavity than the dentist!! DS got a sticker and a ride in the chair. he had terrible teething pain last night so they confirmed 3 more bottom teeth are peeking through. Right - off to get organised. Work today....

Rubena · 30/04/2010 09:42

Oh and Summer yes I think the first m/w (last week the one that looks like a man) was implying that to some extent as she said "isn't your dh a doctor" as though she remembered me from some booking appointment or something, but she said it right after I said "can I get that form for the £190" I could have read into it myself, but the conversation with the second (male) m/w who is usually quite nice was no mistake. he point blank said on the phone "are you short of cash or something" after I said they ran out of the forms at my last appointment so just wanted to pop in for one but I don't need a check up. Anyway, I did think it's a bit cheeky and rude, but don't think it's really needing a letter as it's not worth my time, but one more little comment and I'm going to unleash. Whilst you can't specify who you want as your Midwife care on the NHS, you can def specify to have xyz midwife not on your case so it's one in the same really.

JamInMyWellies · 30/04/2010 10:00

Whats all this twitter facebook things on everyones posts top right hand side?

SummerLightning · 30/04/2010 11:58

Jam, I thnk it's so you can easily link to a thread on facebook or twitter, though I can't think why I'd want to do that!! Particularly this one!

Rubes I couldn't believe it with DS!! He was happily wandering playing around on his own then it was straight over and wail as soon as I held the little one!! I can't believe he even really recognised it as a baby, it was so small and doing so little. My friend tried to cheer him up by throwing him up in the air and spinning him round (he LOVES this), and you could see him alternately trying to carry on crying and try not to laugh and enjoy it as he usually! Sooooo obvious, I would have found it funny if it wasn't so terrifying at the same time.
I use an NHS dentist and they do the scrape around and polish sometimes and other times don't. It never costs much either, but I think I am lucky to have an NHS dentist.

Beans33 · 30/04/2010 12:35

Hey all! I have an NHS dentist too, which is great - especially as everything free while pregnant - apart from hygienist, which isn't... But it's £30, not £50 - phew. Am v overdue an appointment and need my wisdom tooth seen to. Must go soon.

DD has gone for her sleep, so can relax a bit. Have just spent the morning at Waitrose - oh yes - went posh (and expensive) today! And then headed on to Northcote Road again to take back a dress I bought for DD from Jojo Maman Bebe. It was just too navy. So swapped it for a nicer one. Hee hee! Naughty me.

Then my lovely neighbour came round for coffee with her not very lovely DD who is 2. She was sitting in our arm chair, which is Izzy's favourite seat, which she shares with the nanny share little girl, so Izz tried to climb on with her, and she kicked her to the ground!!! I was absolutely furious, but don't really know the Mum well enough to say anything. DD obviously crying on the floor. Grrr. The poor Mum was quite mortified and her DD was really unpleasant saying Izz couldn't get on with her and she didn't want her on the chair. Terrible 2s I guess. Whizz crying all the while. Anyway, guess Whizz needs to toughen up a bit - it's a hard world out there!

I am now officially zonkoed. Am being super wife and boiling up a ham for us to have over the bank holiday weekend for lunches and am just about to have a duck hoisin wrap I purchased and read my book for half an hour, then I feel a snoozy coming on. Let's hope can still do this when the newbie arrives!

Blah blah. Can't stop talking/typing!

x

Mission sleep has begun again in our house. For the past 2 nights I have not fed dd until 5.30am. If it starts raining milk you know my breasts have finally exploded.

God I need sleep.

Hope you and your small whirlwinds are all ok, some of the crazy pg lot must be coming on a bit now, who is first?

Beans33 · 30/04/2010 17:21

Hi Indith - I'm first - due 25th June - eeek! V exciting now - can't wait!

Hope all going well with you?

Wow, getting close! You'll be fine I'm sure

Plodding along ok here, enjoying dd on her own as ds has been staying with my parents, just shattered as usual as she has still been up a million times a night but hoping to finally break the milk habit this time and then deal with the wakings.

Take care all of you x

Veggiemummy · 30/04/2010 18:03

Bloody hell Rubs that's a bit steep. Hygenists do the scale & polish in Australia I can't remember the price back when I was there but mum was saying for a 5 min dental check up (he literally looked in went yeah it's ok and that was it) and a scale & polish with hygenists she paid $160. I have gum disease and for DS1 it was really bad so I had to have my 3 monthly scale & polish done by a periodontist. She was very nice and just did them at the normal hygienist price of £35 and that was a London private clinic. Unfortunately though it spoiled me for scale & polishes for evermore. Like you say it was very painful and very bloody but it was so good. The hygienist I saw in Derby was useless I do a better job after about 4 mins with my electric toothbrush. I have my own scraper and mirror now and just do a very long thorough brush at night with a bit of scraping occasionally and those little brush things for between my teeth. My BIL is a dentist in Brisbane and own a couple of clinics so I'm looking forward to some good scale & polishes when we go home.

Veggiemummy · 30/04/2010 19:58

Aaahhhheeeeerrrrrrggggghhhhh I'm so tired. It is a holiday here today for Queens day. It was drizzling in the morning so we stayed in. Then at midday it fined up a bit so we went for a walk into town where all thr celebrations stuff was happening. It was good fun lots of stuff going on. Then we caught a tram home and wandered around our local area. It's a tradition here that on queens day everyone kind of congregates in the local squares and kids set up stalls and sell their old toys. We went to our local square/playground thing and the boys had a play around and also DS1 bought some little dragon toys. I dressed the boys in orange for the day as that's another tradition. We finally got home and I cooked dinner. It wasn't a late tea, only 5.30pm but DS2 had one sleep of about an hour & half and with this whole changing his sleep pattern thing well he just lost it big time. He screamed forever. I finally gave up on him and took him for his bath which he screamed through. Then screamed because he had to come out. Finally he settled down with a cuddle and his milk. It was around this time I realised I could have given him some remedies to settle him but hey ho. I love him to bit but that screaming is just too much. I actually gave him a little smack because I was just so over his screaming. It stupid it did nothing but make me feel bad and it really was just a pat as I caught myself before I did worse. The other thing was because he kept throwing himself around he kept hitting his head which made him even angrier. Eeeerrrrrhhhhh how am I gonna handle him when he's 2!

Well I think it's time for chocolate.

sybilfaulty · 30/04/2010 20:10

Aw, Veg, don't feel bad, that sounds like a most exhausting day and a wee tap, whilst not to be desired, is not going to scar him for life. Is it takeout night chez Veg? The day sounds very exciting for the boys and you are a total star to get stuck into a new culture and liefstyle with such vim. Have some wine to go with your choc.

Summer, I am afraid that the emotions of the jealous 19 month baby when presented with his new sibing are one of the greatest challenges with no 2. What I have done with all of mine is to focus on the big ones when they are awake, holding the baby only to feed / change / wear and then have my love ins when the older ones have gone to bed. If you sling, you get a lot of cuddle time without them realising as you are not cradling the baby in preference to them, and you soon get adept at getting about carrying 2 of them, even after a CS. It will be fine, you'll see. BTW, I am convinced you are having a girl as well. Very excited by either sort.

I loved the pet stories. Closest we got was a goldfish who went down the waste disposal, but strangely survived by swirling on the top of the water rather than getting mulched. He was known as "never say die" after that. I think my ma was a little disappointed.

Rubes, I have dodgy gums too and have to go to the hygienist to get them sorted at £80 a throw. An hour in the chair and I am gibbering but my gums are raw and clean. Deeply envious of NHS dentists. Seems like a quick count here for your £25 as well.

My neighbour had a baby girl this am called Flora, which is a lovely name. Can I tempt any of the ladies to using it?

Am off for wine and baked potato now. I'll try to post more tomorrow.

Happy weekend everyone.

spotofcheerfulness · 30/04/2010 20:52

Hi Indith, nice to hear from you and sorry about the sleep ishoos . Hope they resolve themselves soon, it sounds like you've got a good plan going. Good luck on the boob front too!

Veggie, sounds like a very trying time with DS2, but how lovely that you made the effort to go out and get into the swing of things locally, Your Dss are very lucky to have such a fun, lively mum. And I'm not surprised you felt frazzled, everyone's patience gets torn to shreds when all you hear is screaming and whining. Don't give yourself a hard time, please.

Hi Sybil, have a lovely baked potato and wine. Bet it was nicer than my horrible toad in the hole and wine. I can never make a successful toad in the hole.

Oh, and we seem to have put in an offer on a flat at asking price . I'm not really sure how that happened. It's lovely, near the sea, really near a great park, in an old 1930s building, and I think made DP and I feel a bit more cheerful again after seeing a bunch of suburban monstrosities. But it is a flat and has communal gardens. Not nearly as big as where we are now, much less storage room etc. We have sacrificed practicality for glamour. Foolish with kids, I know.

Oh, and still no AF today so will test again tomorrow. Maybe I am PG and that's why I am making crazy housing decisions.

zoejeanne · 30/04/2010 21:00

Veggie DD has had a day of proper tantrums, lots of flinging herself backwards and rolling around on the floor a la Drogba. I can't decide if she's becoming a toddler or a teenager, but don't like the prospect of either. Must have been a bad day in the stars for happy babies. Fortunately I've been in a good mood today so mostly found it amusing, but other days it makes me want to writhe around in anger with her. I just have to keep reminding myself that she justs wants me to understand her dah's and der's. Enjoy the choccie

Beans DH also cried with laughter at poor Betty getting cooked in the Aga, and when he got a grip of himself he suggested we buy DD a hamster

Rubes definitely ask to not see those m/ws again, can you say why when you make the request?

Sybil Flora is lovely, Fleur was our choice of middle name for DD if we'd gone ahead with our other first name choice. We chose it because we stayed in a B&B whilst I was pg where all the rooms were given flower names and the booking form said "fleur surname*" at the top, and we thought they sounded great together
*obviously it said our surname, not just surname

Veggiemummy · 30/04/2010 21:43

Thank you for explaining that ZJ i shouldn't have needed you to but I did.

Choccies were lovely and feeling a bit better. I wish DH was coming back tomorrow, he actually finishes the course tomorrow at 3 but has to do a short multichoice exam at the end that he must get 75% in to pass the course. The latest flight back is at 5.30pm so really he wouldn't make it even if he rushed the exam. But he should be home by lunchtime on sunday.

Thanks for all being so nice, it's always good to know your there. I find myself composing posts to you in my head when things happen, good or bad. Is that sad?

Wow Spot you've put in an offer. It sounds nice, would love to see photos. It might not be all you need right now but it is a step onto the property ladder and that's a good thing. A communal garden is also a big plus. Storage space is always helpful but you can either try to get rid of stuff as soon as you don't need it, or be creative with 'storage solutions' IKEA is great for those. Oh one good one that friends of ours did was (not ikea) lower the ceiling on their corridor/hallway and then on the room that shared a wall with the corridor they built little cupboards into it high up so the space created by lower the ceiling could be accessed through that room. Does that make sense.

Was your jacket potato nice Syb?

Forgot to say hello Indith, interested to see how the sleep thing goes.

I think we should have started a clear blue fund so that whenever anyone thought they were up the Duffield they could buy a snazzy state of the art clear blue tester with the little computer screen on it that tells you how far along you are.

Rubena · 30/04/2010 21:44

Thanks Vaggie and everyone on the dental advice. Vag I must be thinking of America -as it's free there and they do a good thorough scale and clean at a regular check up. $160 sheesh that's steep! DH has just said he wants to invest in two Sonicaire's and a couple of the pick things and call it good We currently use Oral B electric but I work with an ex dental assistant, and she swears by Sonicare. I've heard such good things.

Summer/Sybs yeah I wonder how ds will be with a newbie around, actually I wonder how the dog will be too tbh! We'll see.....

Hello Indith I'm due early Aug but she is scheduled to arrive 26/7

Zoe, yeah you can say why you make the request, the thing is I really don't want much of the post natal care, as I'd rather just call them if I need them iyswim, and the stitches out after 5 days dh can do, but I know that's not procedure so I won't rock the boat. I just can't decide if I'm making a mountain out of a mole hill etc...

Sybs - can't tempt me with that name sorry. I'm really getting fond of Aubi's dd2 name and mentioned it at work today and all 3 of the girls gushed over it but my short longlist is still 14 long and a few of them are level pegging! Oh Lord what am I going to do! Might have to do a MN poll soon Hope your wine and pot was nice - yum.

Right off to do some Ebay feedbacking Bought another lovely few things (sleepsuits and wotnot)very nice and new with tags all really cheap [tightarse] and also 2 really pretty girly cot bumpers also new - they are lovely
