looks like free parking so easy for me to drive as I actually have a vague idea how to get there. Who else can come?

Turniphead1 · 04/05/2010 19:44

Sorry to be dense - but where is it? I might be up for it, but if I was would have to take DS 4 with us too. I may have to be out of the house for 12 hours next Monday as we are waiting to hear if we have got a Clairol advert shoot in the house or not.

Turniphead1 · 04/05/2010 19:47

ahhhh Barnes - an hour's drive but my DS would love it. He is wildlife mad.

LadyThompson · 04/05/2010 19:54

Rubes, I bought mine about a week before DD was born and they were a godsend in the weeks after with a sore cs wound. DP turned a blind eye in those weeks Besides, it stopped me nicking his pyjama bottoms.

I would love to go to the Wetlands Centre and meet up but Barnes is a bit too far for me as I have to get cabs with the buggy (how on earth do others manage?)

I have been such a twonk. There's a mirror I really want for the new house but it is £££. I haven't bought a single new thing for the house (unless you count appliances, plumbing, building, electrics...) and won't have anything new in the way of furniture (not that I am being ungrateful, I know I am v lucky). I saw it in January in the Laura Ashley sale and it was 50% off plus an extra 15% for good luck, so more affordable. However, I missed the sale. I have been waiting and waiting for another sale and they had a sale over the Bank Holiday weekend and, whilst I was away, could have ordered it last night in time for the midnight deadline. But I forgot and it's back up to full price, which I simply cannot justify, so will have to wait for autumn or even Christmas for the next sale You see, Mum gave me some money towards the house renovations and I want to use some of that, but really, really can only justify buying it at 50-65% of the full price. It would look so beautiful in my bedroom mto.lauraashley.com/upholstery-and-furniture/furniture/mirrors/detail/3407512/patricia-floor- mirror-silver

Evening ladies you have been chatty.

ZJ that chocolate butterscotch was just the best thing today, I think you may have saved my son's lives, could have thrown both of them out several times but had a bit of choccy instead. Poor DS2 is definitely suffering from molars coming through his gums are very red and swollen and he has hardly eaten today. He threw his lunch straight off the table.

I took the boys to a natural history museum here after DS2's failed lunch and they had a ball. It is a really well designed museum and both boys get a lot out of it. They had a formula one exhibition and a boat exhibition too which they loved. It's very hands on...and sit in and climb on so all good.

I've heard water wings are a no no but I used them for DS1 & those floatation vests and he started swimming on his own without them at around 3. I have to say I'm not against all the swimming lessons but we really just treated those first few years in the water as a bit of fun and when we noticed DS1 was getting a bit more competent in the water we just taught him ourselves. However, if we are on holidays at the beach or poolside I still use them for DS1. He's older now and less likely to accidentally fall into the pool but swimming with them is less tiring so if he's wanting to play for hours in the water I think it's fine. Also Beans I'm all for the dunking and eventually pulling up. That's how DS1 learnt to not be so bothered by water he has always loved having his face underwater. DS2 is a face plunger too he loves blowing bubbles under water.

Veggiemummy · 04/05/2010 20:17

Hi lady sorry you missed the sale but they will have it on again and your not in the house just yet, you would have to either store it or have it at the house and hope none of the tradesmen broke it. I wasn't able to use the link.

Invis I'm glad the party went ok even with half your guests off wandering around the 'countryside'.

Beans that women seems a bit like she has nothing going on in her life I'd leave it lie if being a bit bossy brightens her sad little life so be it you don't need to worry much longer. And Hooray to being a SAHM like moi!

JJ you are not milking the system, they are giving you incentives to stay with them throughout your childbearing years in an effort not to lose good female staff. Indulge them. Anyhoo this money doesn't come from your department it comes from another pot of money either a government grant or just from other funding so use it sweetie!

Lady DS2 was biting up until a few weeks ago. He also found it amusing when I reacted so often went back for more. As best I could I ignored him (trying very hard not to flinch at all through the pain) & he seems to have gotten bored of it. I do think some of it was sleepiness and the whole 'you don't understand my blabbering mother'. But for now it's settled.

On words, DS2 has uped the stakes again an added 'look', 'good' (thought that may have been imitating me) & yum. The final one was actually a bit of a dissapointment. Despite all the yummy, organic, carefully selected based on their fullfilment of his nutritional requirements and amazing tasting and texturally exquisite meals i cook for him, he first says yum to...baked beans!!!! He even tried to scoff DS1's beans when he'd inhaled all of his. Oh well at least his language is coming on.

zoejeanne · 04/05/2010 21:21

Veggie I'm glad the choccie got there, I hope it was intact? I also have a bar sat right next to me as I type (alternating mouthfuls with the first strawbs of the year, mmm)

DH eventually got home from the pub at 11.30 last night, and I'd gone to bed. He made himself a whole pizza and then came to bed and announced that we wanted to treat me to a weekend away - and tried to convince me that he'd thought of it ages ago and that it wasn't anything to do withfeeling guilty after drinking in the pub for hours. Grrr. Was not impressed with his offer

On a happier note, I had my lunch today sat on a sunny bench by the river and it was bliss!

DD has got a new expression - an exaggerated 'ooooh' face. Which makes her look just the baby in 'Meet the Fockers' when he says 'ass hooole'. It is hysterical, but we are a little worried that she is in training for 'ass hooole' to be her first word too

Right the washing up is beckoning, ta ra

LadyThompson · 04/05/2010 21:43

mirror-silver mirror

Veggiemummy · 04/05/2010 21:49

That's funny about the ass hoooole, ZJ. I've managed to eat one whole block today, although DS1 did help me. I saw your Mrs Pontipine photos ZJ very funny. Where is he taking you then?

I forgot to add something else DS2 can do, he has clearly been watching too much of the Ice age 3 movie that DS1 is currently obsessed with as he keeps doing the bit where Buck tells the story of being eaten by the big Dinosaur Rudy. He rocks backwards & forwards and says (in his baby mumble) 'back & forth & back & forth' it kind of comes out as 'bac & ford'.

Oh dear DH found the 2nd block of chocolate & opened it and now it's gone. I, of course had most of it.

Veggiemummy · 04/05/2010 21:53

Lovely Lady, but as you say very expensive, I really do hope you can get it on sale again.

Rubena · 04/05/2010 22:24

ZJ - that's funny! sil used to try and get ds to say that as his first words when he was quite young. Funny about your dh too - well gotta give him points for at least the attempt

Nice Lady, but sheeeesh, I can see why you are dissapointed at missing the sale, but i'm sure it will be on sale again at some point.

exccellent on your ds2 words Vaggie. Nothing new hear, he has just upped the frequency and improved clarity of dadadada and we are getting the occasional mumumum too now which is pleasant

waitinggirl · 04/05/2010 22:30

this morning madam did a belch. then looked me straight in the eye and said "burp". i laughed so hard i nearly fell off the bed.

night night lovely ladies. been enjoying lurking, but just too tired to talk.

Rubena · 04/05/2010 22:32

jeez my typing is awful - sorry I really can spell! Here not hear and excellent etc, you know what I mean

WG that's hilarious! Hello and goodnight!

Beans33 · 05/05/2010 08:41

Morning all

I'm just popping on briefly to say hello and goodnight. Am actually genuinely ill this morning with roaring sore throat and thumping headache. No temperature, thankfully, but DD with her nanny, so a day in bed for me. I went to bed at 9.30, but didn't sleep between 3 and 7, so feeling rotten.

So only 4 days left in the office - if I'm well enough to go in tomorrow! I sort of hope I am as not much time left and got a few things to sort out. I guess I can always do them next week if necessary!

Lady - love the mirror - have you ebayed it to see if it's cheaper on there? And also would suggest having a look in John Lewis at some of their mirrors. I've got a beautiful one from there above our bed - it's not as ornate, but really pretty nonetheless.

Glad a few can come to Wetlands - Lady, could you get the train in from somewhere? The nearest station is Barnes... Would be great to see you. I think we're meeting at about 3.00 - is that right?

Right, to bed with me.

xx

Beans33 · 05/05/2010 08:45

PS Hopefully this might help re Wetlands Centre - I've also got a 20% discount voucher for up to 6 people if anyone wants to share?

Here's a link for how to get there.

LadyThompson · 05/05/2010 09:08

I will think about the Wetlands Centre but as my train gets into Paddington and there are only tubes from there, it's not great. Also, I am going into town for the next couple of days and Monday might be too soon. Nonetheless, am tempted...poor Beans, hope you feel better soon, that sounds rotten.

Nolda · 05/05/2010 09:42

I'm struggling to keep up with you ladies again, you're so chatty!

Rubena yes I'm impressed with your cycling too (and Summer). When I was pregnant the only exercise I managed was walking.

JJ I agree with the others that clackeration is the way to go. It may also help engage your DH more with DD. Although I hesitate to compare your DH with mine, my DH said that one of the best things about having DS was that he was forced got to spend more time with DD and really got to know her. I don't know what I'm going to do about getting him interested in DS though as a third child is definitely not on the cards.

LadyT welcome back, I'm glad you had a successful trip. Hold out for the next sale, the mirror looks fab.

Spot Yes, two children are hard work but there are compensations. DD and DS now share a room which has worked out really well. The previously non-sleeping DD has got the message from the sleep for Britain DS and they can play together nicely in the morning for about 40 minutes giving DH and me a bit of a lie in .

Invisible So glad your DD got a lovely birthday cake.

Beans Sorry you're feeling grotty. Take care of yourself.

I'm sure there were other things I was going to say but my mind has gone blank - again.

Turniphead1 · 05/05/2010 09:46

quick one - LadyT - Laura Ash normally have a sale on the August bank holiday - and if you get a store card (and then hastily cut it up after paying off) they will take even more off. It's lovely!

Beans sorry Iz is poorly. Veggie and Zoe WG I am impressed at the new forays into words/expressions. Love Meet The Fockers...seen it so many times.

So is it really a 3pm meet up at the Wetlands Centre?

Rubena · 05/05/2010 11:45

3pm? Could we do slightly earlier as I think it closes at 5 doesn't it? Thought we were thinking about late morning so we can have lunch? I can go along with anything but I think it's a tenner to get in so I'd like to make the most of it (as long as you can all put up with my screamy little boy when he gets tired and wont sleep whilst out!)
Turnip would be great to see you, and Lady, yes there are options so you wouldn't have to cab it. if only your DD could fit my little carseat I could pick you up from a station near me but ds grew out of it eons ago. The voucher sounds good Beans, if we could meet outside or something. Hope a few of us can come.
Beans hope you feel better after some rest today.

Have told my mum about baby girl my guilt took over since mil knew, and it is also really helpful as mum is very chatty and great to bounce names off - being honest without being too critical.

Lady - I must admit to Ebaying as well to look for that mirror for you but came up with zilch however there are some lovely LA mirrors on there so worth a look.

Anyway, might do some gardening today so back later

Veggiemummy · 05/05/2010 11:58

Lady I know you prob don't like buses but there is the Duck bus that goes from the closest tube stop straight to the wetlands center. From memory it's one of those single level mobility buses so loads of pram room. If you have no one help you with stairs at the tube judy collar the first man you see and demand they help that what i used up do. I think Rubs is right about going earlier we went at 3pm once and really didn't get to see much before it closed.

Beans hope your sleeping and you and Whizz feel better soon.

It's liberation day here (it comes around once every 5 years bizarre). So we are all chilling out at home. I have a private yoga class but might pop out for some me time before that. DS2 is really suffering with these teeth, his nose is a tap and I think he also may have a sore ear. He has finally fallen asleep on my lap as he refused to go down earlier.

JumpJockey · 05/05/2010 14:06

Lady that mirror is lovely, we have a similar one with a gold frame over our mantelpiece from a junk shop - sorry if that sounds too much like the "oh this, I found it in a flea market in Paris/ inherited it from my great grandmother" kind of thing they always do in the interiors article of the Sunday Times magazine. Is it particularly that one that you've set your heart on, or would any similar shaped silver framed one do?

oh beans, ouch - do you have medicine for the throat? Hope you feel better soon and dreadful demanding work lady chills out a bit. 4 more days of school, 4 more days of sorrow...

rubena well done on telling your mum, can't wait to hear what name you go for

Asked DH what he thought about us getting on with having another DC, he pulled a bit of a face and said he'd thought more of the next one being about a year and a half away if not more - thought that dd would be better able to cope with the competition by then. But I'm sure I can work on him... definitely planning on there being another one anyway, so it's just a question of persuading him sooner rather than later!

veggie sending poor ds2 some tooth-mendy vibes, teeth are dreadful things.

nolda - that's really encouraging about your two getting on so well and lovely image of them jabbering away in the mornings

We need a new thread! Will try to think of a clacker-based title...

Rubena · 05/05/2010 14:48

Is this a bit much for the thread title police out there?
"Dec 08 ladies getting re-clackered, with tantrums from toddlers we're sure to be knackered"

Not much gardening done, but ds has helped dh fix his broken bike wheel and that's about it. I have been going through my newborn clothes some of my very tiny white sleepsuits are not looking quite as white so I have bought some baby pink dye and am going to do a few into pink I won't go overboard, but I've got a zillion plain white sleepsuits which I think would be nice to have some in pink and it saves buying more as they are in good nick really.

I am getting SO much kicking and movement - is everyone else? it's really getting uncomfortable and my back is hurting a lot these days! I just can't believe I was this uncomfortable the first time around, at this stage but I guess I was. I'm just getting booted all the time. Happy that there is movement of course but it's damn annoying at the same time!

EffiePerine · 05/05/2010 14:49

Love the mirror but not the price! Def wait for the sale.

Jj: hope DH comes round. I had a similar exp over the weekend -dh decided to work so I got the kids by default.

Veggie: hope you get some time to yourself and ds2 cheers up.

Beans: get better soon!

We've had a lovely morning, out to a new playgroup the to waitrose for lunch and to stock up on election night grub. The boys are now fast asleep in the buggy - bliss.

Now I just have to work out who to vote for - consdering I'm an educated adult with family respnsibilities I am lamentably short on politcal opinions. DH has enough for both of us - he will be shouting at the telly while I quietly snaffle the baklava (a nod to the economic situation).

traceface · 05/05/2010 14:59
