flyingma · 03/06/2010 01:27

party OMG Congrats... can you tell us how to manage them all? What's your secret... some kind of caffine/ stereoid tablets?

About the swimming thing... I am also really rubbish in the water hence why have started Aidan on swimming class really early and it's amazing to see his progress. Before we started, he hated bath time sitting clutching his fists to his chest. Today, he only had his face above water, ears fully immersed and kicking and splashing. Amazing. I cannot recommend it enough if you are able to take Erin to a class.

maygirl Thanks for your tips re going out arrangements. Will prob need to pick yr brains/ exp for more of such tips closer to the time. Really should check the BLW forum (?) on Mumsnet.... will make it feel less daunting to have that support there.

lottie The girls are getting on so well. Love Eve's reverse L position. Aidan loves doing that too, esp at bedtime I've caught him several times asleep with both feet in the air tho slowly coming down. They must have the most amazing abs!

wmdo Still no photo of Olivia? I know re that crying photo - can I have a note to excuse Aidan from tummy time? Olivia sounds like she is doing amazingly well with BLW. Pls channel some success vibes to Lottie and me?

ali I guess that's something to be happy about - and good to have the reassurance of that open appt. It sounds like Jacob likes his food so yay!

Yeah DS has lovely hair from the front... at the back is a bit of a disaster as he is gradually developing a bald patch which I am making worse (?) by doing a comb over! Friends and mum+dad are trying to convince me to get all his hair shaved off (traditional Asian thing to do) so that it will grow back thicker and evenly but I am a wuss.

Who was it who had an event to attend at the Chester Zoo? Are you coming up to stay nearby? Do you want to meet up when you are here (we're 10 mins away from the zoo) as I am not sure I can make the London meetup!

Finished my cow duties for the day so yay I get to go to bed now. Night all!

CantThinkofFunnyName · 03/06/2010 07:32

Re the swimming I should point out here that I as well as being terrified of pigeons I'm really a bit of a waterphobe too! Well, I can swim and last year I did manage to put my head under water on holiday but only if I had snorkelling goggles on to stop the water going up my nose (conjure up a nice picture?). Hence why my kids are great swimmers and starting Olivia early - don't want them to turn out like me! Embarrassing.

Had NO sleep last night. Went to bed at 11.15 after feed, Olivia woke at 12 screaming. Don't know why. She screamed on and off about every 20 minutes or so literally all night. Have friends coming today and now a pounding headache due to lack of sleep. Not a great combination.

alibobins · 03/06/2010 07:50

ctofn I apologise in advance for this but............
Jacob did it he slept ALL NIGHT yes thats right ALL NIGHT [GRIN][GRIN]

The last few nights he's been sleeping till 4 or 5 but today after a dummy plug in we got up at 6.30 he went to bed at 8.

Hoping to take him swimming tomorrow but I'll see how his wheezing is.

I really can't get my head round BLW I gave Jacob a banana to chomp on he got a piece gagged and was sick everywhere tried him with toast this morning and he was the same think I'm going to stick with mush.

whensmydayoff · 03/06/2010 08:45

ali apparently their gag reflex is alot further forward at this age so they will gag and be sick easier. It's a safety mechanism and you just let him do it, don't interfere and I bet he carried on as if nothing happened.
When he gets older the gag reflex will move further back in his throat.

The book also states (who knows) that it is safer than puree. I can't remember why, maybe because it trains them or something?
My DS was fine on puree as are millions of others on puree but it just made me feel a little better about the safety of BLW.

Well, I have to say, i did have a better, sounder sleep with DD in her own room. She woke at 3.30am and screamed for an hour. We took it in turns to go in and soothe her a bit then walk out and that was her from 4.30am until 6.50am.

Much improved from up every hour eh .
Will see tonight is that was just a lucky night!

Was on here looking forward to a day in the life of party!! She is obviously too busy, what a cheek!

whensmydayoff · 03/06/2010 08:47

new you don't cook banana. You just mash it with a fork until really soft or just sit him on your knee with a long peice of banana infront of him and watch him suck it himself, very funny stuff.

Partyofsevensoontobeeight · 03/06/2010 09:49

Morning all

Today isn't really a true picture because dcs 3& 4 are away camping for two nights dc2 slept next door, dc1 is in his teenage pit and me and bubba didn't get up till 8.30.

It really isn't that busy, honestly (note to self thats because your a lazy cow and nothing is ever tidy!!!!!)

Age gaps are ds17 -5yrs- dd12 -4yrs- dd7 -14mths- dd6 -6yrs- dd19wks -12mths- ??

Average day =

dh up at 6.30 has brekkie, out at 7am

dd12 up at 6.30 straightens hair, general fannying around, out at 7.30

me up at 7.30, get dd7 & 6 up, they get dressed while I make brekkies and packed lunches, mum comes for them AT 8am and takes them to school

8am go wake baby up, wake ds17, feed baby, make ds brekkie leave house at 8.45 to drop ds in town, get home at 10am. mn for an hour or so, put washing in, hang washing out, put washing in dryer, fold washing (there is lots of washing).

12 noon feed baby and self, play for a while, more washing, try to put some away, wash pots general tidying downstairs, upstairs is a sty so shut doors.

pottering around doing bits of stuff, dh calls me arthur because i do bits of lots of jobs and never finish anything.

2.50 dd12 comes home, food food food

3.10 pick up dd7 & 6, drive to town to pick ds up at 4,30. dd7 feeds baby bottle in the car. backhome at 5pm

dh in at 5.30, showers and positions himself on the sofa for the evening, make everyone tea, usually different stuff, sit down for 5 mins, kids usually out to play.

6.30 ds, will you give me a lift (this is everynight) back at 7, bath baby, down at 7.30 for bottle (if its other kids bath night dh will do it, if not me) bath other kids, dry hair, pjs, drink and bed.

8.30 - ?????? children in and out of bed, to tell me important stuff.

9pm dh and baby bed.

make brew and sit down, me and dd12 usually watch something crap on tv.

10pm dd bed, other are usually asleep by now but not always, empty washer, put more in ready for morning, fold some more, put away pots, general tidying.

mn or crap tv, till ds comes in so i know doors locked etc. usually about 11.

go to bed, with house looking no different to how it did in the morning

do feed animals twice a day as well

CantThinkofFunnyName · 03/06/2010 10:49

Party - sounds mad, but brilliant! I particularly like the not tidying up and house is as it was in the morning .

somewhathorrified · 03/06/2010 11:11

hey hey, wow great news party I have to say I'm slightly jealous, werid I know, especially since I havn;t actually got it together to get jiggy since Tobin was born, stitches and all that.

I really wanted to do BLW but HV has scare me too much when she said, "do it if you want, but make sure it's in the daytime during the week so that if anything goes wrong you get an ambulance quickly" wtf! SHe aslo said srawberries and tomatoes to give only a tiny bit as loads of babies have severe allergic reactions....I'm thinking I need a different HV.

DOes anyone know how BF fits in with weaning...I'm really confused as I want to continue BF til Tobin at least has teeth, and ideally at least til he's a year old. But I just don't understand where food fit's with the boob. Atm he has:
7am boob
10am boob
12noon yoghurt
1pm boob
4pm boob
6pm porridge
7pm boob
10pm boob
2am boob
4am FF
7am boob
The boob feeds are normally only 10-15mins long.
Obviously more food is being introduced slowly and we're still in the realm of showing him what food is, but I'm scared that when he has 3 meals a day he won't want boob anymore. [cry]

Partyofsevensoontobeeight · 03/06/2010 11:31

You see thats another reason why i'm not completley barking and can cope with these monsters wonderful children of mine, BF 8 x a day when do you do anything else????? I know its best and all that but none of mine have any ill effects from ff and they only feed at 8, 12, 4 & 8, I honestly could not cope with it, total admiration to all you bf mummies out there.

cant whispers-i do actually tidy it just still looks the same , as i iron and hang up clothes they go behind me and put them on, then throw them on the floor, if i put all the pots away they come and get cups for drinks or are suddenly hungry, and erin is following suit, if i change her bum she then has a poo maybe i need to paddle their backsides more often.

I am sure she is trying to suck her thumb. nooooooooooooooooo after having me 37yrs of it and dd12 now having a brace because she does it , i must discourage her immediately

flyingma · 03/06/2010 11:38

According to the book, BLW means that food is not immediately a substitute to milk but is a supplement. Some babies (most babies) take a few months before they start taking enough food to start even thinking about reducing milk feeds. Idea is that you feed them as much as they will take on the boob then offer them food to play with and slowly start to eat.

The first few months are for them to learn to handle food, try new tastes and textures. They believe that the milk feeds won't be fully dropped till well over a year.

I am sure one of the more experienced ppl will be able to confirm this.

somewhathorrified · 03/06/2010 11:48

party BF's great..all the times you feed means you have to sit down with a cuppa and a biccy with the Tv on...It's such a hard life.

Thanks flying I hadn't thought of feeding first. Sometimes I'm so dense.

mistletoekisses · 03/06/2010 12:07

Heaps of posts to catch up on, have forgotten most of them already. Except one

Party - congrats to you. . Sooooo happy for you all! Hope that you are feeling ok. Any noticeable symptoms yet? Am in awe of you, very envious whilst also thinking...nooo way for me doing it again. Does that make sense?

Crumpette - what is the latest with your DP?

Ali - well done on little Jacob sleeping through. And glad his appointment went so well. Fingers crossed he gets better from here on in.

All of those with disrputed bubs, Nico was a nightmare last night. So unsettled, I ended up going into the spare bed with him. Fingers crossed it was a one off. Am waiting until he hits six months and is onto 3 meals a day before getting more evil at night and forcing feeds to be dropped.

Weaning is going well, I think I am the only one going the puree route, but it is all going in ok and he is eating all that he is given. SWH - flyingma is spot on. Milk is still more important than food. I offer Nico a bfeed first on one side, then offer food, then offer second breast..sometimes he takes more milk, sometimes he doesnt.
Weaning from bfeeding is going more slowly. Think the fact that I am still doing nightfeeds is keeping my supply quite high..my supply dropped a lot quicker with DS1.

Hope everyone else is ok. Right off to do more housework - this whole week has been a haze of non stop washing/ ironing / cleaning. But means the weekend is clear to enjoy the lovely weather.

Mama2b5 · 03/06/2010 15:54

CantThinkofFunnyName · 03/06/2010 16:24

MK - no, you're not the only one. I'm doing purees too. I started one day after Olivia turned 4 months on a bit of baby rice, then built it up to a couple of portions of baby rice a day. Now she has 3 very small pureed meals a day, including her bottles. Sometimes I drop her milk feed in the afternoon - depends on how the day has gone and whether she wants it or not. She is just over 5 months and has demolished everything I have offered thus far. Today was broccoli, cauliflower and sweet potato. She wasn't too keen, that's the only time. However, enough left over for supper, so she's getting that in a minute, then bath at 6.30, followed by bottle and bed.

Mama dates of meet up are not firm yet - but sometime between 5-10 July probably. Once we have fixed a date, I will text you as still have your details from when we were all due!

crumpette · 03/06/2010 18:02

MK I am tentatively doing baby rice/purees first, then BLW later when DS is 6 months

PAAAAAAAAAAAARTY!!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!! HOw long did you know without telling us!?? hahaha what fabulous news, if a bit mad, totally great news. So many people say it's easiest having them close together blabla so, maybe not mad at all yay!!

new nah I'm thinking of ditching DP, I'll send him somewhere cold and wet instead while we party somewhere warm and baby friendly til the early hours. That's what I love about Spain, and Mexico, they just adore children and don't bat an eyelid if you take them to restaurants/bars/parties til 3am or so. I can't be outside after 7pm with DS lest I get disapproving looks from passers by

Speaking of indulging my repressed partying alcoholic I have ordered this book looked hilarious!

Re DP, the saga deepens. He had a meeting today to confirm if he's redundant or if there is another position. However, he didn't make the meeting as his car was clamped! The tax disc expired in April- I forgot, he forgot and it's now going to cost a fortune to get it unclamped!! Argh! You know the feeling when the whole world is conspiring against you? Oh that's just me then ! !

How's everyone doing? I keep trying to click profiles to peek at the cuties on here (the babies!) and every time I do my page crashes, grrrr

Oh alibobins I'm so pleased your neurologist appointment went so well. Don't hesitate to go back if it happens again even if it only happens one more time, go back. It's great that they are paying attention though and that there is now an open door for you. Fingers crossed there won't be a need to go back though, half a year of worrying mummy is plenty thanks Jacob

alibobins · 03/06/2010 18:36

Thanks crumpette I read that message to Jacob so hopefully he listened

whensmydayoff · 03/06/2010 20:10

party you are indeed a busy bird!
I was laughing at you driving around with DD7 feeding Erin in the back.
Also just shutting doors instead of worrying about the mess behind them.

The worrying part for all us mums out there with babies and young children - your bloody 17 yr old sounds the hardest and takes up most of your spare time .

You sound such a chilled person .

Im off to find that doo dah to download a photo of Olivia.

whensmydayoff · 03/06/2010 20:17

Yes party BF is very very time consuming. It's dooable with one but when you have two, I have found DS has suffered most and missed out on attention a bit.

Partyofsevensoontobeeight · 03/06/2010 22:10

Thanks all

waves to crumpete - where you been its old news now lol, you've still time to jump on the jan 2011 thread with me, GET TO IT GIRL

Laugh at when your right about it being ds is the hardest but I have to take half of the blame for that as I baby him and think he couldn't possibly get on a bus to town, but he has a ticket for the 4 day leeds festival in august where he will have to fend for himself. crafty bugger lets me baby him though, hey ho life of a mother eh. DD7 is her other mother (she tells everyone), she has rung everynight from camping and said are you looking after Erin properly. She even asked dh if i was looking after erin properly, cheeky madam. I think its because her and dd6 were so close together that, she would come into the kitchen for a drink and say i'll take one for dd6 so i'd think she was just being helpful and let her. I'm sure even though you've neglected ds, he'll be ok [joking emotion]

somewhat I could do with a few more hours sitting down - not - my lardy arse is spreading over the settee, but it sounds great.

ali yay at jacob sleeping all night, long may it continue

Thanks mama , what was isaiahs weight at birth, Erin was 13.8 at 11 weeks is she just massive or what ????

Partyofsevensoontobeeight · 03/06/2010 22:11

After you saying that I missed your post, thanks mistle

whensmydayoff · 03/06/2010 22:54

Lost the doo dah (lead that goes from camera to server to download). Chances of ever getting photots on now are zilch.

Off to bed. My challange for tomorrow is staying off MN! Night.

LL I do all the day feeds myself, DH does one FF at night so I get some sleep. Tbh it doesn't actually feel like a lot, I just think when he's an adult he's gonna be eating/drinking at about the same times anyway.
7am breakfast
10am Tea break
1pm Lunch
4pm tea break
7pm tea
10pm supper
The night time routine is a whole different story...he was sleeping from 10-7 with one feed in there...he suddenly went to 2 feeds which is why we started on the weaning. Btw he's 20 weeks and about 14-15 lbs. He feeds intently swallowing everytime he sucks (loudly) for about 10 mins then he faffs about. I know he doesn't get full he just gets distracted and want s to be elsewhere. I tried to feed til he was full, he just doesn't stop, he falls asleep on there and continues to suckle. I don't see it as a problem tho, we seem to have come up with a nice routine.

crumpette · 04/06/2010 11:35

Oops I just ventured onto S&B and someone's bought jeans a size too small because of me!!! OOOOPs strangers on the internet, who'd trust them for advice

Well after my recent smugness at DS sleeping he wouldn't go to sleep last night until past midnight and he was up at 4.20- the window was open, I can only think he was woken up by something, but he's been up ever since and I'm tiiiired

lottie BLW's a messy business at times, especially with sticky/wet food.. I soon realised it's not a good idea to do BLW in nice pristine new clothes for example, DD sometimes ate messy food in just her nappy and a bib! And then had her hair washed afterwards... I'm really selling this aren't I...
