... sorry couldn't think of a title that didn't mention how to get orange poo out of a white vest, or how to get jiggy post partum!!!

Jardins (hugs) That sounds really scary. Just think that the procedure and the discomfort (you've been through childbirth recently, so don't let it phase you) is a necessary evil to get to the bottom of the problem. Don't worry about what will be, wasted energy. It could all turn out to be something innocuous. x

crumpette Yeah as long as you are affected by their drinking. They don't have to be "an alcoholic"... if it causes you a problem, you qualify. It is truly eye-opening. This was one of my fav info leaflets but do go along to a meeting to help make sense of it coz otherwise it might seem quite harsh.

crumpette · 20/05/2010 17:13

Thank you flyingma- will have a read

yes jardins it must be very very scary but really is so unlikely to be that, it's just to rule it out, your doc sounds like they're experienced and on the ball so you'll be in good hands and hopefully it will be ruled out

ali, just saw about Jacob, v sorry- another inhaler- he does like keeping his mummy busy!! Re the weight, don't worry about his size, DD was always on the 9th centile (not a good example, but she really was v healthy til she got ill) but yes she was always ahead of other children developmentally, it just meant she was in 6-9month clothes at 11 months, for example, but in every other way she was fine. She started off smaller at birth and was just petite.. but progressed well iyswim shut up crumpette!!! x

Jardins - not much to add from the others who are telling you not to worry unduly, but wanted to send hugs and best wishes. x

sockmonkey · 20/05/2010 18:16

jardins big hugs from me. I got a pretty bad fissure from DS1. Stupidly didn't go to docs for about 6 months and was in absolute agony. I went to loo one time and it looked like a masacre, so much blood it scared me into going to docs. It took a couple of months but things got back to normal. Hope you soon get all clear.

flyingma · 20/05/2010 19:39

DS is on the Ashton & Parson teething powder and I assumed it was a "use at will" product since it is herbal and all but the packet says to see a Doc if symptoms persist beyond 5 days. Is that just standard wording for drugs or should this clear up the symptoms within 5 days?

All this talk of 4-mth growth spurt is scaring me. DS is already waking up in the middle of the night screaming tho not hungry - HV and I suspect teething... at least the symptoms - and I am getting used to my increasingly longer sleeps so will be truly gutted when this spurt comes along.

alibobins · 20/05/2010 20:24

Jardins big hugs from me too I know it's hard not to think of the worst case scenario but at least your gp is being thorough.

crumpette I know what you were trying to say in your post it would be relly good if you could make escape for the meet up

mamma I am okay some days I have to force myself out of the house apart from school run.

I tried Jacob with some puree but he didn't really know what to do lol he sort of let it dribble out his mouth grinning at me. He took a while to co ordinate himself drinking a bottle he used to struggle to breathe suck and swallow at the same time.

Newbeginning1 · 20/05/2010 21:51

mk - i get what you're saying about the nursery needing to promote independent play but this nursery just weren't speaking to the babies. One of the nursery nurses was feeding a baby and the other one pulled a baby out of the jumperoo then fed it and still didn't say anything. It just didn't feel right and when i asked about activities they couldn't tell me which was disappointing. Have you had your meeting at work yet?

maygirl - i would love it if Jack didnt wake up fully when he's hungry but hey ho, i cant have everything. Maybe i need to keep doing dreamfeeds through the night so he doesnt wake up and then drop them if that makes sense or is that completely the wrong thing to do?

jardins - bigs hugs to you xxx Fingers crossed that everything is ok for you and the proceedure isn't too uncomfortable.

flyingma - i completely respect what you're saying to crumpette about making a balanced decision about whether to stay or go and doing it for the right reason. Like you say, we all have our own experiences but at the end of the day it's crumpette that's going through it.

crumpette - you have to come meet up with us. If not then i'm sure we can arrange to kidnap you for the day

ali - Jack has hayfever too and they have given us some Allerief which i tried today but it seemed to really upset him so i'll see if it makes a difference. I really hope that Jacob is getting ill now but the only reason he's doing that is because he will grow up to be the healthiest boy ever because he's had his illnesses early on if that makes sense?

party - are you doing a test tomorrow?

Sorry if i've not responded to anyone elses posts or commented on anything that i had on my mental list to but my mind has gone blank.

I'm off to pack as i'm heading to my sisters in Cambridge for the weekend tomorrow. I'm so excited to see her and my niece who's 3 because she's at that cute age where she thinks she is so grown up. I've chosen a great weekend too as the weather is meant to be nice so lets hope I get a nice tan

Enjoy your weekend everyone and fingers crossed the babies all behave x

maygirl · 20/05/2010 22:29

Hugs from me too jardins, and please get a second opinion about the pain relief issue and BF. I've heard you're fine to BF after even a general anaesthetic as once you're conscious it means the drugs are out of your system, and all Csec mums are allowed to BF immediately. Even some gas and air if it helps you to relax. By the time you have the meds, have the procedure, recover and get back to baby several hours will have passed before a BF I'd imagine. I hope everything turns out ok.

My son used to wake up more fully than DD new, and ping awake again often when I put him down asleep. Done nothing different this time just different baby.

Made a video of DD today, she's started to 'walk' along if you hold under her armpits or hands, and wants to do it all the time, with huge grin on her face. She is 14 weeks and sure she is not meant to be doing this type of thing yet!! She was going mad at DS's toddler group, trying to 'run' and join in with the big kids, like 'let me at 'em!' During tummy time today she got up on her knees, though upper body on floor, bum in air! She hasn't rolled over fully but does go onto her side alot.

Partyofseven · 20/05/2010 22:33

Hey yummy mummies,

jardins thinking of you, can you not express enough breast milk for as long as it takes the anaethestic to wear off/be out of your system IYKWIM

ali even though Jacob is going through all this, when you posted, he grinned when you gave him food made me smile, keep strong for your smiley man x

cant how is the sick bay, hope all dcs are ok/feeling better

new yes I am going to test tomorrow but it will be late as we go shopping about 6pm so may have to update sat, have a lovely weekend with your sister. I love them at that age as well, cheeky but cute

Waves to crumpette

Well, DD was fine at school with brace [woohoo] DS went to bank and opened a bank account and then got bus home from town [party faints] which is a big deal for him. DD3 (6) called Erin a cheeky bugger and when I said no she said you call it her all the time (must remember not to) and Erin had about 5 spoonfuls of baby rice at teatime and then her milk, which meant we didn't have the hysterical crying from about 6.30 until bedtime feed at 8pm. She had her bed time bottle at 7.30pm and then I put her straight in bed whilst I was upstairs bathing DDs 2&3 and she went to sleep no problem. fingers crossed she stays there because she isn't swaddled like she usually is because she was kicking around before she finally feel asleep.

Hope everyone else is ok sorry if I've missed anything important

Partyofseven · 20/05/2010 22:40

That last post now reads wrong, of course I don't leave her crying hysterically from 6.30 - 8pm but we have a tag team of pasing her around to try and amuse her, or she has a bath for an hour as its the only thing that she likes (we have to keep topping it up) but she went until 7.30 before she started crying.

jardins · 21/05/2010 09:45

Thank you so much for your kind words. I haven't had the best of nights, as can be expected. I just keep looking at my beautiful baby and wondering.... it's horrible.

Basically the specialist gave me an internal examination yesterday and managed to see up 15 cms (I couldn't help but congratulate her which made her laugh). Apart from the fissure she saw absolutely nothing alarming. But she was so serious about it all and freaked me out when she told me about both patients, aged 31 and 37 being diagnosed with cancer post partum. Whilst she bombarded me with information re: the prcedure and the HORRID cleaning out you need to do during the 24 hours prior to the colonscopy I sat there feeling so bleak and I knew I should be asking her questions but my brain was just not functioning.

I'm going to try and see my GP asap to talk things through with her.

What concerns me is whether my milk supply will be temporarily affected by the purging. Thank you Party for the advice on expressing. I have never expressed milk before. Can anyone here give me advice on that? How long can you keep the milk? I suppose I shall need to sterilise a bottle (I haven't got yet); which breast pump works best IYE?

I'm so stressed at the thought of the night before running to the toilet every few minutes with a baby who loves to cluster feed in the evenings.

And then the stress of the discomfort of the intervention and hearing the doctor's diagnostic afterwards. Oh crikey. Maygirl I appreciate your advice about the general anaesthetic; I'll ask my GP. It's really good to get this kind of info; thank you.

I'm so sorry this is such a me-centred post. I'm having lunch with a bunch of English speaking mums from school today who I hardly know. On one hand it will be good to get out but I'm hardly going to tell them about my colon, am I?

Wow not made it on here for ages!

jardins please don't worry, the chances of it being anything sinister are slim and age hasn't got a huge amount to do with it. Also I have friends who have colonoscopies every year, they say the worst thing about it is the drink used to purge...it tastes really nasty, the purge itself comes very fast after drinking it, but they've never mentioned being stuck on the loo all night.

LL did they get your breast pump?

Tobin's having a growth spurt we think. Currently added another feed at night. Takes 8oz ff then 2 hrs later wants a huge boob feed. Hey ho.

maygirl · 21/05/2010 22:09

jardins, look up hand expressing on internet if you haven't got a pump. Breast milk can keep for upto 8 days at the back of the fridge (coldest part, not in the door), I have always frozen it if not using within 4 days. Frozen milk can keep for months. If you'd prefer to pump you can hire breastpumps as well as buy which might be better for a one off, the hospital may have a breastfeeding drop in centre with pumps you can borrow, I saw mums pumping there when I dropped into my local one. You get new sterile collection sets, not used ones.
I find it much easier to express from one boob (using pump) while DD is actually feeding off the other, as she gets a good letdown going. Your supply will probably be fine after the purge, but you might feel more comfortable knowing how to express some off if you're missing feeds, and feel more relaxed knowing is milk at home for your baby. HTH Look here for good info on medications while BF, as well as expressing and milk storage info, it's a great site.

Morning All! How lush is the weather??

Jardin - I am sure everything is fine, please please do not worry. to you.

Am just popping on quickly - off to the farm with my boys today. Hope Nico will be ok - he didnt seem to enjoy the heat too much yesterday. Was very grizzly and fed lots too. Anyone elses bub the same?

Sorry, no time to respond to posts, plan to tackle my ironing before we leave, so can relax when back! Have lovely Sundays all!

flyingma · 23/05/2010 09:51

MK Love the weather but I think Aidan hated it. Took ages to get him down last night when normally he just nods off on his own after grumbling for a bit. Had to give him water in the end (he's part ff) which he refused earlier in the evening. Our house is just too warm so even with the fan pointing directly at him, DS was not a happy bubs. We wound up stripping him down to his nappy and letting him sleep that way, putting him back in a vest at the dreamfeed.

LL Can't believe that they would not retrieve the pump for you. If you do find a sec, you should really write to complain. I don't think they know that they are in the wrong... or that you were not just being difficult.

crumpette Big disclaimer here that I am no way responsible for your weigh-in's at Fat Club Monday but here's something I saw which made me think of you - free UK dev for orders above £25, last day today. www.bettysbypost.com/

CantThinkofFunnyName · 24/05/2010 11:13

Morning lovely ladies. So what about the weather hey? Lovely but I'm finding it a little cumbersome as still waiting for a delivery of a sun canopy for Olivia's buggy so keeping her out of the sun as much as possible - she's also got a bit of a heat rash so clearly she's not enjoying the sun too much. Also, Percy needs constant supervision in the garden and trying to juggle the two means we are preferring the cool of the sitting room!

Had Olivia weighed this morning - 12lb, 10oz and bang on the 9th centile still, so very pleased about that.

And and and and..... she has just cut her first tooth! Being my child, she has to be a little difficult though and the first tooth is about two in on the right hand SIDE - not one of the front ones!!! So that explains her exploding nappies, bright red cheek (one side) and streaming nose!

Think I'm going to have a busy week. DS has departed this morning for his Y6 trip to the Isle of Wight until Friday, DH is going off on a golf trip tomorrow and I'm left holding the baby, puppy and a "trying to help but get in the way" 7 yr old. Going to have fun (not) trying to take Percy for walks with the buggy. He's still at the "I want to trip everyone up" stage .

Monday weigh-in... mmmmm going to give it a miss as have put on 4lb in last week . How can I be gaining weight in this weather and with the amount of running around I do? Ah - perhaps its the chocolate, wine and crisps I've had a taste for the past week .

mistletoekisses · 24/05/2010 11:18

Morning all!

CTFN- weather is just lush isnt it? Although too hot for LO's in our back garden, even in the shade. So tried to keep Nico indoors between midday and 3 yesterday.

How is everyone else doing?

I hopped on the scales this morning - am 9st 13lbs! Another 1 lb weightloss. Pretty sure am stopping bfeeding in the next few weeks (sob sob), so the rest should come off after that! But Nico is a whopping 16lbs! I was on the scales to see how much he weighed! I know it isnt as accurate as proper weigh in HV, but I avoid HV's like the plague! And cannot be bothered to get to the one clinic that has a 2 hr session once a week - I bet it gets packed!

Anyhoos, off to make lunch. Have friends popping over with their LO's for an afternoon of chatting and relaxing!

Partyofseven · 24/05/2010 14:04

Hello all you yummy mummies

Well done for any weight loss this week, I am planning on putting weight on for the next 8 months or so

Told dh on saturday, wanted to know if we could have a quickie whilst the kids were out(seen as though I can't get pg!!!), sooooo after the quickie did actually say yay another baby (sarcastic git) Not told anyone else as not confirmed properly, did keep trying to get in conv with mum and dad yesterday 'well we may as well wait to have erin christened, and do them both together like dds 3&4. She kept saying shut up don't be silly.

Had a loverly day yesterday, DD3 made her confirmation, and chose Elizabeth for her name, then we went to local pub for sunday lunch and arrived home a little wetted about 9.30pm and on a school night toooo!

Erin has found her toes and delights in pulling herself in half to insert them in her mouth, very cute, she can also turn the bottom half of her body over but not quite managed a full roll over yet, will take her to baby club tomorrow for weighing.

Hope you all get a chance to enjoy some sun today, will check back later xx

CantThinkofFunnyName · 24/05/2010 14:39

Party - oooooooh! Purlease go and get a digital test I'm just DYING to find out . I think you are absolutely bonkers - however, another big part of me is going "aaaaah, how lovely, what a wonderful mum she must be".

sockmonkey · 24/05/2010 17:11

CTFN Teeth??? Already?? You are kidding me?!

But they are supposed to be babies!!

Naomi is just in a nappy at the moment. The boys are nekkid having just got out of a cool bath. DS1 decided that dirt fights were the way to go at breaktime.

I am waiting for Sophie le Giraffe to arrive. I really don't want DD to take up thumb sucking, and she seems not too bothered about a dummy, she would rather eat her own hands.

Right... I am making sunday dinner today. DH had to rush into work yesterday, so we ended up eating pizza instead. Hot oven awaits.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 24/05/2010 17:44

Sock - I know!!!!! When she was 11 weeks I saw the first signs of a bottom front tooth, but that has regressed and a side buggser has popped up. It is of course causing much distress when she is fast asleep - poor little love.

We had a roast Chicken dinner yesterday and tonight, Olivia had pureed chicken and the green veg. First meat!! Also, gave her some water in a cup with her meal - so a day of firsts for my LO!

crumpette · 24/05/2010 21:11

Hey all. I have never ever got sunburnt in my life- until saturday I have naturally quite olivey skin which goes v dark in the sun but admittedly hadn't seen daylight for 2 years.. so I was a shade of apple white.. and am now a shade of boiled lobster. It's not very nice! Am really bemused- I've lived in Mexico and various places and have never used sunscreen (naughty, I know) and one hour in the park in London and bang- OUCH

Anyway, thank you very very much flyingma I am loving that link and have (how bad is this) saved it to my favourites list!! Haven't ordered anything yet

PARTY oh go ooooon do a test you know you want to go oorn go oorn go ooorn!

Aside from the shocking shade of my limbs, have some bad news today in the form of DP being made redundant from his reasonably comfy job where he's worked for 8 years- he's pretty shocked, I am pretty shocked too- because although he's a pest and financially things are rocky because he has 2 houses for other people and we have silly London rent here, at least he had an easy job he enjoyed and was good at with steady monthly income coming in to meet the outgoings I have no idea what to do- do I go back to work and trust alcoholic psycho megalomaniac with my baby, for less than half the salary he was bringing home..? do I send him off to his wifelet ? Do we split up using this as the reason? Agh! I'm a bit confused, was not expecting this news. Nor was he, he's in bed totally drunk

CTFN go Olivia! Is that the first tooth on the thread?! There's something v sharp going on in DS's mouth but nothing has actually come through yet. He's been v sleepy in the hot weather and hasn't fed much today which got me all concerned and is now wide awake and hungry but still not feeding, normally he's in bed by 8

OP posts:
crumpette · 24/05/2010 21:18

Sorry for vent, just a bit of a bombshell, I thought he was joking. He's known about the potential for a while as everyone had to reapply for their own jobs but he never thought he'd be made redundant, and I did his application, it was very strong (and coherent for a change) and he's the only one there who can do certain things, so the role itself isn't redundant and he's had the top results for years

Lottie- I can feel the pain from your posts! OUCH!!! Hey if you need a British au pair for your twins (with a baby) give me a call- Mary Poppins, me
