Afternoon ladies

Bubb - oh bless - I have a lovely vision of your son's bathtime

Mrs W - How awful for your friend ...I agree with KVG, speak to her...send her a text or a note to say you're thinking of her and that you're there when she needs you, then she can contact you when she's ready, whilst knowing that you care, and also you don't put her on the spot to speak with you immediately if she's not ready yet.

Trib - sorry to hear you're feeling sad...as other's have said you're entitled to feel sorry for yourself abit...hey I'm feeling abit blue today and I don't have much to contend with compared to you...just a dishwasher that arrived this afternoon, but can't be installed as the guy they send isn't qualified to do electrics (how crap is that) and now I'm feeling sorry for myself as I'll have to do the washing up again tonight until a friend comes over hopefully tomorrow - now I feel abit ashamed of my 'woe is me' feelings

Mrs W - yup my ds certainly is a little character and he loves his little sister mostly ! at your ds with the cushion, he he he...I caught ds at the weekend trying to give dd some of his toast!!! Can see we're both going to have to keep a close eye on this brotherly love thing, lol

Bubb I'm too at your ds's sleeping through...so is he awake then until his 10/11pm feed? At the mo my dd goes to sleep in our room about 8pm and then wakes for 2-3 feeds between then and waking about 6.30/7am, having about 4 hours between feeds, although we have had two 6 hour stints but they've yet to be repeated . Any tips gratefully received on getting her to sleep through, esp annoying as when she does wake in the night she only takes about 2-3 oz. Last night I tried bigger teats thinking if I could get her to take more she'd go longer, but greedy little minx just took 4-5 oz and proceeded to wake up 3 times instead, arrhhhh!

Mandy - LOL at your dark chocolate replacement...I like the way you think, if you ever lurked on our pg threads you'll know you're in good company

Right better go and mop up the kitchen floor that the delivery men flooded whilst not plumbing in my machine , catch you all later, x

charleypops · 02/08/2005 15:25

Hi,

Not caught up with you all, hope everyone's ok. Been feeling a bit down lately and not felt like I had much to contribute.

Trib, hope you're feeling better today. Are you fatigued? I feel like did yesterday if I let a sleep deficit build up.

MrsW - I'm sorry to hear about your friends' baby. There was a thread on here a few months ago about what people should say to bereaved friends. I seem to remember a few bereaved people posted with their advice. Have a look through the bereavement topic I think I'd send a text or little note like Tea suggests. People need support when they're going through hell.

Tea - lol at you feeling depressed because you have to wash up - I SO know how you feel - but we've never had a dishwasher so it must be 10 times worse for you! Did you try offering the delivery guy a tenner to plumb it in? I did that with my washing machine after they'd said my dp should be able to it - they know how to do it, they're just not allowed.

Bubb- I'm glad ds's foot seems to be getting better. Foot deformities at birth do appear to be quite common don't they - I guess they get a bit squished in the womb. I know that they can be fixed very successfully these days though.

Lua · 02/08/2005 16:32

TRib- I just wanted to say that I think your mother would love to help you when you need it, and it sounds like you could use with a bit extra help - so go for it! DH will understand....
Sorry, I realize this none of my business [shame], but I thought in case you need a little push... I would give you one!
I remember how hard was the first 2-3 months with my DD. I think help would have made very one happier (me, DD and DH!).

Bubb- So glad Oscar's feet is making quick progress!
Shhh...Don't tell anyone but DS hasn't taken a bath in one week either [shame], but I cannot use the plaster as an excuse....

Lua · 02/08/2005 16:33

[shame] =

eastyorksmum · 02/08/2005 17:41

Health visitor been today and weighed william he is now 8 1b 5 yayyyyyyyyyy lol sorry just plzed to see him putting on weight.

hi charley nice to see you back hugs

breast feeding is still hard put it must be paying off, so we just have to perserve hey ladies.

anyway hope we all have a better nite hugssss

mandymac · 02/08/2005 18:46

As confessed on passive parenting thread Lua, my dd also recently went for a week just being topped and tailed. Tbh didn't seem to make any difference to levels of cleanliness, in fact she seemed to be more dirty the morning after her bath. She seems to be collecting fluffy cheese in her copious folds (neck, ankles, wrist and the extra creases she has in her arms and legs because she is such a hungry little monster , 11lbs at 5 weeks ). DH reckons it is parmesan, but my vote goes to stilton (fluff has a blue tinge ). Anyone got any tips as to how to get those neck folds clean? Really hard to wrangle her tortoise neck back far enough, seem to need about 6 hands to do so - 4 not enough dh and I have tried.

Still getting to know you all but hugs to all the exhausted Junies. Reading all your posts is helping keep me sane.

bubbaloo · 02/08/2005 18:54

hi tea- ds isnt always awake untill his last feed, infact sometimes we have to wake him about 11pm to give him a bottle but he goes right back to sleep afterwards.

think tonight may be a little different though.
we went to the hospital today to get his leg re-plastered.the nurses in the plaster room went to get the consultant(as she had a query re:his foot!),and he came to see oscar.
the upshot was...the doc thought ds's other foot looked a bit iffy,so now the poor little mite has BOTH legs, right up to his groin in plaster!!!!

i can't believe it-it's just one thing after another.if i didnt laugh about it,i think i would go crazy-he reminds me of something out of "carry on doctor".

anyway...we left that hospital then had to go to a different hospital to make an appointment for ds to be measured for his bootees.if i see another hospital i think i'll scream.got an appointment for the 23rd aug and hopefully he'll be out of plaster and in his boots by sept.

he also peed all over the nurses and their floor while we were there, and gave a big grin to show he was really pleased with himself.
he's a bit grumpy now we're home and i don't blame him.he loves to kick his legs but of course it's really difficult for him, whihc is a bit upsetting.i'm sure once he gets used to it,he'll be fine though!

lua-lol at the bath!!

charley-lovely to see you back.sorry to hear your'e feeling a bit down at the mo.these babies really zap your energy, dont they?!
how is arlo now?

bubbaloo · 02/08/2005 18:56

hi mandy-x posts. ds also seems to have lots of fluff between his fingers and in the palm of his hand,AND he gets dirty fingernails.
beats me-havent a clue how any of it gets there.

katzguk · 02/08/2005 20:13

evening all

KVG and anyone else whos interested the spa thread is here with a link to the spa spa

FIL's visit has not been too bad, just avoided certain topics of conversation!!!

well last night dd2 slept from 10pm - 4am which was lovely. However we have a bottle problem, i'm currently trying to get dd2 to take expressed milk from a bottle but she just plays with the teat in her mouth and doesn't seem to know what to do. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

teabelly · 02/08/2005 22:11

Evening all,

Well feeling extremely pleased with myself tonight...managed to rewire the plug points and plumb in the dishwasher all by myself and now have a fully operational machine, albeit after I'd done tonight's dishes!!! Gosh hats off to you both Welshie and Charley (and anyone else sans dishwasher) I seriously don't know how I'd cope if I had to permenantly go back to not having one [big shudder emoticon] . Charley I would have offered the tenner, infact he could have had twenty but the old one was integrated and hard wired in, and as this bloke seemed not to be a plumber (I had to help unplumb the old one!) as well as not an electrician I thought it was prudent to accept his lame excuses and get someone else to do it, he he he.

Charley sorry you're feeling blue too...tiredness has soooo much to answer for...you can see why sleep deprevation is a form of punishment . As Bubb says, how is Arlo doing now?

Bubb - poor Oscar and his double plastering, at least he won't remember it shortly. LOL at his peeing on the nurses, he he he

Katz...hmmmm have a friend with this problem, and her little one's now 6 months! Have you tried different teats...dd has the tommee tippee bottles which has bobbles on the teat that are supposed to be like mum's nipple (called nuby teats), or I've heard good things about the Nuk ones too??? Or maybe wait and try after she's had one of her longest periods (3/4/5 hrs) between feeds so that she's really hungry???

He he he Mandy, my dd was 10lb 13oz at 6 weeks so she's in competition with your dd LOL at your fluff problems...we have similar, and like bubb get dirty nails????? And then dd always waits until after her bath to do her biggest sick and get it all in her neck again!

charleypops · 02/08/2005 22:31

Hi Tea and Bubbs

Arlo's doing so well, thanks for asking - we have our 6 week development assessment on Thursday so we'll know more then, but he seems perfect to me. His fingers and toes are outstretched quite a bit of the time (not all the time) and he doesn't always grip my finger if I put it in his palm, but when he does grip it's very strong. Not knowing anyone else his age, I'm unable to pacify myself that this is normal, although a mner on one of my recent threads says her goddaughter always had spread fingers too and she's perfectly fine All his other motor responses seem great.

He's recently started crying a bit from about halfway through his bottle, so I'm having difficulty getting him to take a full 4oz at the moment. He'd love to graze an ounce or two every hour or so the little tyke

Lol at some of your lack of baths! We're the same - we fully intend to do it before putting him down, but we get so tired by then we just can't be bothered , so I've started doing it in the mornings because he was getting some pretty cheesy looking deposits in his various little folds blush]

Just bought The Baby Whisperer and What to Expect in the First Year. Pity I haven't had the time or energy to read them yet.....

WELL DONE Tea for sorting your dishwasher - I'm impressed!!

MrsWednesday · 03/08/2005 10:28

Thanks for the kind words and advice - have looked at the bereavement section as suggested and it was very helpful. Will send a card today(texted a couple of days ago).

Katz, are you trying to give her the bottle? We have had more success if dh does it because he can't smell the milk on me. We are using avent teats.

Ahh I dream of having a dishwasher...

Good to see you Charleypops, sorry you are feeling low. You have had a lot to deal with since Arlo arrived....chuck hormones and sleep deprivation into the mix too and it's not surprising you feel down. My ds is not a finger gripper either btw.

Glad I'm not the only one with a baby with dirty fingernails - I just can't work out how they get so mucky! My DS was 12lb 2oz at 7 weeks, he is turning into a round-faced, podgy chubby baby (plenty of folds to grow cheese in ). He's got his first lot of injections this afternoon - anyone else's baby had them or are you delaying?

eastyorksmum · 03/08/2005 12:02

hiya mums hugsssssssss

lol we too dont seem to be bathing as much as we should be. Tend to top and tail more.

We tryed william in the big bath as i was already in bath and he wanted feeding but he was to destreesed to feed ended up having to get out the bath.

William slept from 8pm till 3am this morn so had a good break from breast feeding, wish he could do that from 11 pm last feed.

Were of for a walk this afternnon its lovely here
so chat later not to tired today xxxxxxxxxx

bubbaloo · 03/08/2005 12:56

Tea-well done you for plumbing in the dishwasher-i wouldnt even know where to begin.must admit,im a bit strange and love washing up! mum keeps offering to buy us a dishwasher but i think i'd miss my fairy liquid.

Charley-great to hear Arlo's doing well.we have been bathing Oscar twice a week, but obviously at the mo its only the once.it's so easy to forget though-the evenings really fly.

Hi Mrs w-ds is hopefully being weighed tomorrow(if the HV bothers to show up this time!).he hasnt been weighed for 4 weeks so im itching to know what he weighs.he's also very chubby.

sfxmum · 03/08/2005 14:02

hello all newbie here
sorry if butting in, very happy to find june mums, been lurking about getting some tips.
first time mum really enjoying motherhood and the crazy loosely organised chaos, really not much different from usual but with a lot less sleep and a pretty little girl to look after

Lua · 03/08/2005 14:04

Hi All,
Just back from a haircut. After all my planning DS woke up at the exact moment stylist started to cut hair... But he actually was a star and awaited patiently until mom was done! Even when clueless assistant kept insisting on straightening my hair with a superhot hair dryer blowing over him, poor babe! Am I the only weird one that hate having the hair "styled" after a cut? Wish I could find a way to scape without being rude!

Hiya Charley, good to hear from you! I've been wondering how you, Arlo and Charley are doing! Have you guys been using your super buggy to go for some fun walks?

I'm afraid DS might get the "podgier baby" award: 14lb 2oz on his 8 week visit! . It is particular ironic when his sister is going to see a paed because she is now bellow the lowest curve in the chart! Expecting Oscar to beat us though!

Tea, hats off to you for plumbing your own dishwasher!!! We don't have one either, but we are looking into getting one. Which one did you buy?

Mrs.W I am delaying DS's vax, but mostly due to a history of auto immune diseases in the family. How are thing going with managing DS1?

Katz - I've introduced the bottle recently too. We had success with the avent teats, but I think he such an avid feeder that he would tske anything! DD though was very hard to get to take a bottle, in the end she did. She had to, because she was at the nursery!!! My only advice is keep trying different teats, but try for many days before giving up. I noticed that even DS which took instantaneouly, wasn't very good at it to begin with, so it mught need a couple of trys to figure out how to operate properly, IYSWIM....

bubbaloo · 03/08/2005 14:05

hi sfx-welcome to the junies.
how old is your dd?

Lua · 03/08/2005 14:05

xpost! Hello sfxmum and welcome a board!

bubbaloo · 03/08/2005 14:07

hi lua-x posts with you too!!

megi · 03/08/2005 15:28

Hello everyone!

Sorry I have not posted for ages but I have had the worst few weeks of my life and temporarily forgot about mumsnet!
When the baby was exactly 4 weeks old, my husband came home from work, sat me down and told me he hadn't loved me for 2 years, packed his bags and left. I am still in shock and literally living my life hour by hour. This was a total shock, and was unaware of any problem whatsoever apart from him being a bit moody for a week before it happened. We have been together for eleven years, and he was my first love. Am gonna have to go cos I am crying (again) and I don't want dd to see me upset as much.
Life is shit.

Tessiebear · 03/08/2005 15:31

Oh Megi - i am soooooo sorry - what a shitty shitty thing to do when you have such a young baby (or any time come to that)
Everyone is here for you whenever you want to talk. Feel so sad for you
Hope everyone is ok - life pretty hectic with me although Joseph is doing really well. Very hungry - he is now 11 IB 7 oz (3 weeks old exactly).

bubbaloo · 03/08/2005 15:41

megi-i really dont know what to say,how awful for you.
like tessie says, you can always talk to us on here,if it helps.xxx

hi tessie-glad you and joseph are well.yes,he obviously is a very hungry baby.

MrsWednesday · 03/08/2005 15:41

Oh Megi, I am so so sorry. What a complete and utter nightmare. Sending you an enormous cyber hug. I hope you have got support from friends and family to at least help with the practicalities. What a devastating thing to happen.

megi · 03/08/2005 15:48

ok - stopped crying now!
I don't live that near my family - but have been to see them quite a bit. Have ben driving around the country staying with friends just to keep my mind off what has happened - DD thinks it is a great adventure. When I am at home he (yuk) does come round and help a bit before pissing off down the pub with his mates again. All friends and family have been great and soooo supportive. This is a very surreal experience. Luckily the baby is as good as gold!

katzguk · 03/08/2005 15:58

megi - i'm so sorry, really don't know what to say.

re the bottles we've tried avent ones, a cheap latex one and now a nipple shaped mam one ahhhhhhh, still no joy, i want to go to a friends leaving do next tues but might have to for go it.

DD2 got jabbed today and weighed at 8 weeks and shes 12lb 7ozs dd1 wasn't this weight until 14 weeks. shes got asymetrical leg chubbyness which can indicate a hip problem so we've got to go back in 4 weeks to get it checked.
