does anyone else still have a bit of water retention? I'm seven weeks since baby was born, I still have pitting oedema in my legs and on-off problems with my wedding ring (ie, can't get it on/off!!). I have an ugly mark where my socks have been if we go out walking.

I read in a book that the water retention disappears sooner than this

Oops, forgot all about 'tummy time' for DS2 Have been also wondering what to do about playing with him so I'm glad you asked Lua. At the moment he does a lot of sitting around whilst I run around cooking, cleaning and shouting at DS1 Actually, I have still got a cleaner, isn't that terrible? Luckily the in-laws came yesterday just as the cleaner was leaving so the house was spotless.

Good to see you again, Mogwai, RoseBerry and MrsF, and Scraggy posting regularly again

No idea about the way you are feeling RoseBerry, but I reckon you should try and see the doctor ASAP rather than wait for your check.

I agree with everyone else about feeling blobby after initial weight loss. It's not going anywhere unless I make a proper effort to shift it but I can't really summon up the energy. Didn't even make my one gym class of the week this week because of my cold.

Lippy, have been chuckling about you being a 'pubic breastfeeder' - do you really need to show quite that much? First time round I was too shy (one of the reasons I stopped) but this time I am completely shameless

Well DS2 went to bed at 8pm last night. I didn't wake up him at 11 for a feed and he slept until 3am, fed quickly then slept again until 7. Not quite sleeping through but a vast improvement. I felt revitalised today, which meant me and DS1 had a better day together too. Bet it was a one off

Mandymac, hope you are feeling better.

Berolina, enjoy the rest of your holiday!

Trib, with DS1 we used the first Norah Jones album to soothe him when he wouldn't sleep- it worked nearly every time when nothing else would, so if your DS is hinting about an album he likes, give in to pester power

Lynny, have a fantastic time at the festival, you lucky lady.

MrsWednesday · 19/08/2005 21:26

Just remembered this from today (for Junies with DSs really). Sat next to DS1 today to watch Ceebeebies and he took all his clothes off and spent ten minutes trying to lick his own willy

Sorry Mogwai, am not suffering from water retention (fat retention perhaps) so can't help. It does seem a long time for it to last though - have you had your post-natal check yet? If not you could mention it then.

Bugger Bugger Bugger - Spent ages this morning typing a nice long post and then dd kicked off, friend arrived etc and upshot is I forgot to actually post it! . No energy to retype it so starting again - soz if it looks like i'm ignoring anyone!

V interested in everyones playing methods, now dd is much more aware of everything I kept meaning to post a question on this, as I was worried I wasn't actively playing with her enough. However, I have realised that she only wants us 'in her face' for a certain amount of time and that sometimes she wants quiet
time to just take things in. We do quite a lot of singing to her - Grand old duke of york, Round and Round the Garden and This little piggy are her faves. Lots of poking out our tongues and smiling at her.

Also let her watch TV as she does seem really fascinated sometimes - don't feel guilty about this as its just shapes and colours to her at the moment I think .
To my dismay, she seems to love football and cricket! .

Right several hours have elapsed since I started this post and its now time for bed.

Wishing you all a good night xxx

Hi All,

Sorry i haven't got time to write a proper message, i'm not being rude, i just need to feed the eating monster in about 10 mins.

I'm doing much the same playing stuff as everyone else, but like a few of you say, i really resent the fact that i spend half the time not playing with DS as i have 101 other chores to do (washing clothes/dishes etc etc). Does anyone know how much tummy time we should be giving them?

JonahB · 19/08/2005 22:26

Just read a bit more.

Mrs Wed, lol at your DS. Does he succeed???

I've actually made it to the gym about 3 times a week for the past couple of weeks. I'm just doing aerobic excercise and some v. gentle stomach excercises. However, I can say catagorically it is making no difference due to the fact that i am eating double my usual portions. I've just eaten a medium sized "pizza magic" pizza (usually i can only manage a small), followed by a Kitkat Editions. Obviously washed down with a can of beer . I'm so ashamed.....

bubbaloo · 20/08/2005 08:00

I find that if i put ds on his tummy,he doesnt like it as he cant do anything.he gets really frustrated with himself,so i hardly ever do it.obviously once he's bigger i will, and he'll probably enjoy it more.
is anyone's baby laughing yet? i'm not sure if oscar laughed at me the other day or not-he's constantly smiling though and doesnt take his eyes off of me.

Hi all,
Tried all morning to catch up reading bits here and there and consequently can't remember much so sorry......
Lippy - I am with you on the unashamed breastfeeding, particularly with two there seems no other way to do it if I want dd1 (and me) to have a life. DD2 is a frequent snacky feeder too. When I thought about this though I think it is because I don't let her feed for long enough sometimes. As soon as she takes a breather I assume that she has finished and she is off the boob and plonked while I have 'quality time' with dd or hang washing out etc. There always seems to be something I am waiting to do while I feed. DD2 had her jabs this week thankfully uneventfully and I mentioned the feeding to the HV who said it may be that or it could just be her feeding style esp in this heat. I am not overly worried as her weight gain and growth is fine and she is very strong holding her head up and trying to stand (!) all the time....just makes me think. We are still feeding every 2-3 hours at night and I think perhaps I should begin to tackle this now. I have been drifting along somewhat.....
Potty training is still going well thankfully. I might try introducing knickers this week and then perhaps try a trip out (walking).
DD2 seems to spend a lot of time entertaining herself with her playgym on the floor as I seem to be playing with dd1 if I am free. It is a good reminder to me to play with her too. I hope that she is gaining something from the songs and dancing that dd1 and i do and watching bubbles etc and listening to us chat.....can anyone reassure me....please. She doesn't really get much one on one time. She does have tummy time though as I was shocked by her neck strength at a young age and so put her on her front then and she quite likes it (for a short while). DD1 hated it and so didn't have much. She didn't have the strength and got quite frustrated and upset sometimes.
Who asked about the coil and breastfeeding? I thought I had posted already but probably just thought about it . Yes you can have the coil fitted while you are breastfeeding as they don't need to be fitted while you have your period anymore. I fed dd1 for 12 months and hope to do the same with dd2 and my doc has said the coil will be fine. HTH.
Mrs W - PMSL at your ds. Bless. DD1 has been having a good look at herself recently too and seems quite amused by it all. Still undecided as to what to call her bits....if I am not careful it will end up being 'bits'. Oh dear.
Lynny - No advice to add about your dgd. Very hard. The childminder will make a difference though.
I didn't realise HV were supposed to visit in the home etc. Mine never has apart from that first visit either time. I have been relied upon to go to the weigh in clinic and only ever did that once a month at the most.... Am I am bad mummy not having them checked more????
We need to buy a mattress this week as it has become apparent that the new one provided by the RAF must be very cheap as there is a dip where dd'2 head goes after a week and it doesn't pop out despite me turning the mattress. I have all dd2's soft toys at the top of her cot at the mo as she has no bedroom for now but I have had to move them as she moved all the way up the cot so that her head was buried amongst them last week . They don't stay small and still for long do they?

Cooperoo · 20/08/2005 11:16

Bubb - Def laughing with you. Lovely isn't it?
Is it time for a new thread?? My computer is struggling to cope with this one now.... Shall I start one???

bubbaloo · 20/08/2005 11:52

hi coop-a new thread would be great as my pc is also struggling on this one.
sorry for all the questions today, but does anyone know whether the first period after having a baby is normally heavier than usual or whether it should be about the same? mine has started this morning,so i just wondered.
hoping the weather picks up a bit-we're off to a BBQ later this afternoon, which should be fun.
