You are an incredibly jolly person Lynny, not sure I could manage to keep so cheerful with the number of things you have to deal with on a daily basis. Keep smiling

Coop, I'm thinking about the coil too. Started on the mini pill and lasted a week as it made me hormonally grumpy and I started bleeding again. I am at those thinking of trying again already but I can see the sense in getting the baby stuff out of the way all in one go. Good luck! Have to say, I get quite upset at the thought that this will be my last baby but DH is adament we aren't having any more.

So pleased all went well at the check Charleypops, and good luck for Thursday.

I think your plan is a good one Welshie - it might help to take the pressure off you a bit if you know you've got the sleep counsellor booked. And you can pass on your knowledge to me too! Have also put DS2 in his cot in our room and he definitely seems more comfortable in it.

Well DS2 has caught the red rash from me reading this thread and I'm wondering if this is why he's in such a grump today.

Good to see you again Uki

Better go and collect DS1 from nursery.

Evening mums hugsssssss

Ive used the coil in the past but i dont know if it was the mirena coil but i found that it suited me fine moods were great periods were normal. Although now im breast feeding my friend said i wont have a period is that true? because the coil has to be fitted at the end of your period i dont know if they can do it if u dont have one, does anyone know?

As otherwise ill have to think again about contreception, prob the injection might suit, im awful at taking tabs the pill would be no good.

Were 6 weeks next friday Lynny so i suppose I will fill out the PND form too and I remember how low I was before having william but its amasing how relaxed and happy i am now. So mine would be the same Lynny my mood was so low.

caught up my sleep now so feel better

hope we all have a good nite hugs xxxxxxxxx

sfxmum · 09/08/2005 17:43

did you all fill in forms? how odd and intrusive.
my GP just had a chat checked blood pressure external exame. asked if i wanted an internal exam i said no thank you she said ok.
still wish had a 'costumer satisfaction form' at hospital. still composing letter of complaints, so as not to be too rude.

welshmum · 09/08/2005 18:20

I didn't have a test either, I guess there's different practice in different practices. With dd I did do it and I remember being surprised that I passed - remember thinking that it was frightening how far down you could go with these babies and still function day to day.
MrsW - glad yours is happier in the cot - there can't be many left in the RCS club now

JonahB · 09/08/2005 19:09

Evening All.

Hi Mojo, welcome!!

Charley/Bubb ? in the nicest possible way, are you both mad ? I just want me back for a while before I think about no 2. Also, don?t you have to do naughty shenanigans to make another one??

Katz, congrats on DD2 sleeping so well!

Lynny, poor Jessica and poor you. As we always say on this thread, you rant away girl! I will always admire you on how strong you seem to be and how well you seem to cope.

Welshie, I think a sleep councillor is a great idea. When you?ve been, could you let us all know what the secret is? (I?m saying this as DH is pacing the landing with a v wide awake DS, trying to put him down).

Can I ask a TMI question? What are the symptoms when you have thrush, as opposed to just being sore? I keep getting shooting pains on one side and i'm sure i read somewhere that this is a symptom of thrush. Anyone got any ideas?

JonahB · 09/08/2005 19:11

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, I was supposed to be doing the PND test today, but my health visitor didn't turn up. How slack is that? I know that PND isn't an issue for me, but what if it had been and she just didn't bother to make the effort to come, or to ring me. Not terribly impressed.

tribpot · 09/08/2005 19:39

Jonah, my SIL's hv completely failed to diagnose PND with her first baby, even though it was blisteringly obvious that she was in a bad way. You do have to wonder sometimes. SIL's mum actually took the baby away for a week when he was very tiny, which I am sure was well-meaning but utterly destructive. HV never even commented on that - like "where's the baby". Just goes to show.

Re: thrush, I used to get it quite frequently, the shooting pains don't sound like it to me, maybe more likely cystitis? I'd suggest drinking plenty of water and/or cranberry juice and making a GP appointment if things don't seem right, particularly if you're breastfeeding.

I also had to do a questionnaire about PND, I think it's called the Edinburgh test - there's a bit about it in the Baby Whisperer. It seemed ludicrously crude to me, the questions might as well say "are you depressed? Yes or no". However, HV is coming round tomorrow to inform me as to whether I am or not, so we shall see. I've begun to realise my jitteriness gets worse when dh is iller, because I feel like my backup has disappeared without warning and there's nothing I can do about it. Good to understand it better anyway.

Welshie - I'm still in the RSC club sort of, dh co-sleeps and isn't that reluctant about it either. I don't like it because I know we shouldn't do it when dh is on medication. Re: sleep counsellor, sounds like a fine idea. I get the impression you've been trying to avoid a routine more because you feel you should than because you actually want to - is that a byproduct of living in trendy 'go with the flow' Islington? My bro used to live behind the antique shops bit on the high street (or is it Upper Street by then?). Just by the fabulous organic pub, if you know the one I mean.

Lynny - as the others have said, rant away! I would have been tempted to tell the helpful old ladies that dd had a rare and very infectious tropical disease contracted on your recent trip down the Amazon. That would probably have kept 'em quiet for a while I had to fill my form in at the baby clinic - that place is stress central with hundreds of noisy toddlers! I'm sure my baby will never make so much noise I also feel my score will be the same as it would have been before I conceived. Sometimes life is hard - they don't seem to allow for that. Anyway, have you talked to the doc about a possible milk intolerance?

Mojo, your little one will grow out of the colic, I know what you mean about the distress. There's loads of great advice on here though about non-medicinal ways to help the little blighters in the meantime.

Uki - guten tag! (Or something, I can't speak German but wanted to applaud your commitment to new projects, well done you!). Good to see you back, cannot believe you ever entertained the notion of twins!

Katz - good for you, go for the spa. I'm sure dd will be fine, you won't be gone that long.

EYM - I think a lot of women don't have periods whilst bf, although the midwives drill it into you that it's not a reliable form of contraception!

Lua · 09/08/2005 20:17

Hi All! I am actually getting work done so haven't been able to catch up... Hoepe you are all well!
jonah - if you mean thrush as a cause for breast pain, there is a lot of info on the archives. www.kellymom.com also has lots of info. I've been looking into it to discover what is causing my lunps and shooting pain. Inmy opinion is very hard to diagnose, unless you see it in babies mouth (white tonge or white patches inside cheek).
Send me an e-mail if you want more info!

mandymac · 09/08/2005 20:23

Ooh dd always has a white tongue - not really a thick coating or anything, I just assumed it was normal cause of all the milk. Is it thrush then? Still breastfeeding ok, but is a bit painful when she latches on, which it wasn't always.

bubbaloo · 09/08/2005 21:24

jonah-i used to suffer from thrush every month just after my period and had it for about 8 years.i never got any shooting pains though,so it may be best to mention it to your doctor.i tried absolutely everything to get rid of it and found a great "feminine wash" called lactacyd femina which i get in boots.i've never had it since and that was about 3 years ago.

mandymac-ds also had a white tongue sometimes and was told by the hv that his wasnt thrush(although a white tongue can sometimes mean that),and that to "clean" it with some glycerine on some cotton wool.i bought the glycerine but never used it as the white coating vanished of its own accord.

does anyone know how long it takes for your period to return, when your'e bottle feeding and might be a stupid question, but whether or not you can still get pregnant before it's returned?
just wondered,as although we've talked about having another one,i dont think i want to get pg just yet when ds is only 7 weeks old.

MrsWednesday · 09/08/2005 21:49

Well DS2 is still in a grump, but now he's over-tired and we can't wind him down. Arrrrrrghh. I'm starting to wonder whether he's having a reaction to last week's injections or if he's caught DS1's cough and cold.

Welshie - unfortunately he doesn't stay in the cot, but he does start the night in there Admittedly that's down to laziness on my part - in the middle of the night, I can't be bothered to put him back in there

Re the coil: not sure I need anything that will reduce my sex drive, I've got two children who do that already

Well DS1 told me tonight that he doesn't like DS1...I should've guessed the honeymoon period wouldn't last forever.

Jonah, if your DH succeeds in getting your DS to sleep, can he do mine next? Nothing is working.

Bubbs, no idea on the periods returning, sorry. With DS1, they started within a week of me stopping breastfeeding, if that's any help (it isn't, is it?!)

MrsWednesday · 09/08/2005 21:51

Ooops. So good I had to say it twice

teabelly · 09/08/2005 22:06

Good Evening all

God there's soooo much to catch up on, so I'll be brief...

Welcome back Welshie and Coop

Charley...ANOTHER ONE ??? Are you mad??? only joking, he he he. I lost the weight and got fit again after ds, and now with dd I've still got a stone to go, and a lovely jelly belly to lose again so I'm not sure all the effort makes a diference...I vote eat the chocolate and deal with the consequences later

SFX - The meetup's in Reading 3rd September...please come we're all very very nice, honest guv! There's a thread on it here

Mojo - welcome...hope you got the answers about colief you were after, but just to add...ds (now 3 yrs) was on colief from 12 weeks to 7 months, and then we switched him to soya formula. When weaning we still gave him cows milk products (ie yoghurts) and found no problems, but as the milk he drank was such a huge volume (in comparison) he would regress to colic symptoms each time we tried to wean him off of the colief. His problems were because he had a lactose sensitivity and really bad ezcema (which incidentally - for Lynny too - cleared up the instant we switched to soya). They don't recommend soya for babes under 6 months, so as we had concerns that dd may follow ds's footsteps our HV suggested the Dr may prescribe the colief for us until she could switch to soya if necessary (thankfully not necessary) - which is obviously much kinder on the purse . At about 1 1/2 to 2 years ds drastically reduced the amount of milk he was having - just doesn't like the stuff - and so we tried him on cows milk, and to date he's not had a problem since...unless we run out of banana flavoured milk for him breakfast . So from our personal experience keeping him on the colief for such a long time made for no lasting problems, and was much better for our ears, nerves and ds's little tummy! HTH

Lynny - as per above ds had real bad ezcema which cleared overnight with the soya milk, and re the cradle cap...he still had it until a month ago, when I tried the old olive oil trick and it's now completely gone. P.S. none of the medicated shampoo's did the trick! , but oilatum (sp) is fab for making their skin soft again, and doublebase cream gets rid of all the flakyness (both available on prescription). If the skin is cracked and weeping only antibiotics will clear this up properly for good as bacteria has caused this. Once cleared use said doublebase (or other very rich moisturiser) to keep moisture in the skin as much as possible. HTH

Charley - mine's called a noonoo too!!!!! Very confusing for ds with nu nu in the teletubbies, he he he!

Bubb, I'm bottle feeding (bf for a week) and my period came back when dd was 9 weeks (now 9 wks 5 days)...but it's only lasted a day and a half so am hoping this is because the Dr said to take the pill again on the 1st day of 1st period, and not because number 3 is more than a twinkle in daddy's eye!!!

Sorry not very brief I know

No routine's here and decided will not bother with Gina et al. DD generally goes about 3-4 hours in the day between feeds, had 6oz bottles but only usually finishes 2 of those, and has a feed about 10-11pm, then about 4-5am and a top up at 7am, as this is a vast improvement on ds we're happy to go with the flow

Right had better go as the footy's just finished so I'll have a dh back again! Night night x

mandymac · 09/08/2005 22:07

Bubbaloo - thanks for white tongue advice won't panic then. .

Mrs Weds - dd has been a real grump this evening too. Fairly Ok during day, but wouldn't really nap all afternoon, then got overtired, and seemed to have awful trapped wind and screamed at us for an hour. DH took her out in the car eventually for an hour - and have now fed her and put her down (over half an hour and shes not woken yet, hope I haven't cursed things by saying that! ). I can't imagine what it must be like for mummies whose babies scream loads and hope I don't find out!

Fingers, toes and everything else crossed for a good night for all!!!

uwila · 09/08/2005 22:07

Jeez, I can't believe all this "another baby" talk. You people are crazy! This factory is closed down for good. Locked the door. Threw away the key.

Regarding the mirena, I have heard very mixed reviews on it. So when I was in the hospital I asked about the effectiveness of it. They said it is 85% effective in preventing pregnancy. That is not an impressive figure in my book. I can't take the combined pill because I get migraines. So I've been taking the mini pill, although I can't say I really forsee myself having sex ever again anyway.

teabelly · 09/08/2005 22:11

Mrs W - hello - LOL at the kids reducing the sex drive - how true!

at DS1 saying he didn't like DS2...my DS also goes through phases like this...he's taken to drawing pics of the family...mummy, daddy and Luke...when I ask where Amber is he draws a big belly on my pic and says 'still in mummy's tummy' !!! or maybe just wishful thinking

My dd had her first set of jabs today...not sure who cried more me or her !!!!

mandymac · 09/08/2005 22:14

re contraception - anyone else going to use condoms? I love them - bye bye wet patch! . Having said that, now have wet patch to sleep in everynight where dd dribbles whilst feeding in bed - hey ho.

uwila · 09/08/2005 22:15

Oh yes. We had the jabs today too. Little Alex was star. I was a bit nervous, but figured it was best to get it over with. He cried just for a short bit. Then slept all afternoon. Such a good little boy, and such a proud mummy .

teabelly · 09/08/2005 22:18

He he he Mandy re dd's wet patches - welcome to mummydom...it won't just be your bed either, you will always from now on have dribbles and wetpatches on your clothes...and when you get to work thinking that you've escaped the baby dribble, you'll go to the loo half way through the day and catch sight of your rear and find a nice big milk dribble down your back that no-one's mentioned to you

teabelly · 09/08/2005 22:20

Uwila, good for Alex, Amber had stopped crying by the time we left the nurses room too...me on the other hand, I was still crying after the 20 min wait before we could go!!!!!

mandymac · 09/08/2005 22:21

Yes Teabelly, I am currently sporting a mothercare maternity vest with very fetching dried sick motif down the front . And you know what - I don't even care!

teabelly · 09/08/2005 22:24

LOL Mandy nice! he he he it's amazing how much more laid back you are about things after having little ones
