Hmmm, not strictly journalism as such but have you tried contacting the big travel agents and websites to see if they need any features or travel copy in general for the site?

JamInMyWellies · 09/04/2010 10:38

Veggie its Have I Got News For You.

YOu are right boys are very smelly DS1 has teh most cheesy feet ever and DS1 well his bottom is quite nuclear.

I really want one of those robot hoovers but DH reckons that our house is too doggyfied for them to work.

Spot how about Indistructables clearly not a real word but very boy. Or just call them Raahhhh.

SummerLightning · 09/04/2010 10:44

I have just realised I am not friends with spot hence why I can't see this stuff on fb!
Shall ruthlessly force her to be my friend.

LadyThompson · 09/04/2010 10:44

I was offered a column in a mag about moving to the country and having a baby, but I said I wouldn't do it unless it was anonymous. It was a deal breaker for them. I get wistful about the money I could have earned but I didn't want to end up like Liz Jones (barmy unselfaware columnist who writes about her life in shaming detail), so no serious regrets. However, it was the last serious work I was ever offered so I am in the wilderness now.

Veggie, re: the delivery man - I paid double for next day delivery, he turned up (eventually) and the pallet was too big to go down the path. He wouldn't help DP to carry the stuff as he said he wasn't insured, but said he would take it back and bring it back next week in smaller packages. However, company are now saying I will forfeit the £70 I paid for next day delivery and will have to pay an additional £30 for next week's delivery. I know it's a small thing but I am hopping mad as none of it is our fault and I at least want free delivery next week. The case continues...

spotofcheerfulness · 09/04/2010 10:51

Summer of course I will be your friend!

Jam, I like the idea of just Raaaaaah. Spot on!

LadyThompson · 09/04/2010 11:00

Veggie, I wish you could work your housewifely magic on this place. It gets messy so quickly.

Quick question to the preggos (or in fact anyone who remembers feeling this in pregnancy): I have found, with this pregnancy, that I am really thirsty. I don't really remember that last time. Should I be worried? Per day I probably drink

3 pints of water or sugar free squash
2-3 mugs of coffee
Perhaps a small glass of milk

Plus I am good with eating fruit and stuff and that contains water. Am I drinking too little? Anyone else getting this? I am just over 15 weeks now.

SummerLightning · 09/04/2010 11:05

LadyT yes, I was more thirsty early on, but I think it had gone by 15 weeks, but I am sure it is nothing to worry about. It's good for you anyway to drink lots!

Another pg question, where do you get that form from that you ahve to give your employers. I was expecting it to come through the post but I think I may have got it from the midwife and I am not seeing her until 28 weeks now.

SummerLightning · 09/04/2010 11:06

I meant last time I think I got it from the midwife.

LadyThompson · 09/04/2010 11:40

I got mine from the consultant but it was yonks into my pregnancy. Thing is, without it you can't get free prescriptions or free dental care or any of that. I think it's called a MATB1. Can you ring your midwife or gp's surgery? They may be able to help.

I am probably worrying bout nothing with the thirst but am mindful of gestational diabetes (of which I know nothing, though did Katie have it?) They have already told me this baby looks large at the mo, which is surprising as DD was such a tiddler at 6lb 12oz.

LadyThompson · 09/04/2010 11:42

Although second babies are apparently larger (everyone else find this?)

Mmm, nearly time for another thread. I am devoid of inspiration as usual.

SummerLightning · 09/04/2010 12:01

Oh I hadn't thought about diabetes. I know nothing either, apart from that they test you for it at 28 weeks, so perhaps it only develops later on anyway? Hopefully someone who knows something about it will be on soon.

I did get a little card thing through the post that gets you free dental care and stuff, but I thought the form was something different. Yes I shall ring the midwife and ask.

KiwiPanda · 09/04/2010 12:08

LadyT You can pitch to me if you like! I need to commission some new stuff.

I got very thirsty with pregnancy too. Didn't help with the endless trips to the loo much...

Beans33 · 09/04/2010 12:21

I get really thirsty still, LadyT - but not as bad as I was.

My sister in law had a little girl this morning - no name yet, but v exciting!

Have popped DD down for a sleep - might have to have one too. Went househunting this morning and saw 2 ok ones - 1 too far out, the other perfect, but furnished and expensive! the 3rd one was quite disgusting. Even when it's been cleaned, there is no way I would let a child of mine go on the floor in there. Absolutely vile. And just off STreatham High Rd, which is v busy - had forgotten how much traffic there is.

It's quite disheartening! My favourite one was out of our budget, which I'm gutted about!!! Thinking about putting an offer in on it though. Gosh. So little to rent on the market for 4 bed houses. Depressed!

Beans33 · 09/04/2010 12:23

Oh gosh, we do need a new thread title. I can't think of anything sensible or silly. Perhaps "continuing discussions of mums who had babies in december 08"!!!! It's so boring - I like the fun titles!!!

KiwiPanda · 09/04/2010 12:32

Beans I've forgotten the back story, as it were - are you buying a new place and just have a gap to fill or are you planning to rent for a while? DH and I were talking the other day about how the sensible thing to do now would be to sell and rent for a while and hope that the long-awaited housing crash occurs. But then the whole hassle of moving - TWICE - puts me off big time.

As for thread titles, how about "December 08: And the tantrums begin ..."

Beans33 · 09/04/2010 12:32

shit, smoke alarm going off outside DD's bedroom and I can't seem to stop it!

spotofcheerfulness · 09/04/2010 12:37

Congrats Beans on your new niece!
Sorry for the house search though, it's so dispiriting when you realise what's actually out there. Has the smoke alarm stopped?

Happy to go with whatever thread title people suggest, I am brainstormed out this morning .

zoejeanne · 09/04/2010 12:38

Hi, I should really be all housewifey like Veggie, seeing as DD is asleep - but you lot are more fun!

Had a bit of a shock as I was skimming and read LadyT's post about being thirsty in pregnancy and thought it was from Spot and we had another preggy lady! Realised I was just being dim. LadyT our very precise and accurate birth stats showed that, on average, first babies weighed a whole pound and a 0.2 oz less than the later babies

Congratulations on the new little neice Beans

LadyThompson · 09/04/2010 12:41

I will probably take you up on that, Kiwi, thanks. It would be good pitching practice if nothing else. I will contact you about it when I have had a proper think, so I don't waste your time.

Spot, I only just noticed your suggestions about contacting big travel agents to see if they want features or copy. That's not a bad idea.

Beans, that's lovely about your SIL. Do you absolutely need a 4 bed for now? If you just look for a 3 bed for now (seeing as you are only temporarily renting) I think you would find there's be tons more choice.

Right - back to writing up Egypt for the MoS.

LadyThompson · 09/04/2010 12:45

ZJ, I just LOVE your stats They are the tops.

Happy for tantrums to feature in the thread title - DD went the colour of an aubergine this morn. She just didn't want her nappy changed so hardly the great moral affront of the century.

Beans33 · 09/04/2010 12:55

Oh yes, and took DD for her 2nd MMR jab this morning, only to be told she can't have it til 18 months - I only went because they told me to. Grr! Never mind. She did a poo while we were there and when I went to change her, there was some blood in there. I'm a bit worried. Not massively as it hadn't hurt her coming out, but just not sure if it was in the poo or round her bumhole, if you know what I mean. Any ideas from medical ones amongst you?

Beans33 · 09/04/2010 13:00

Started a new link here

Thought I'd include the tantrums even though they're not 2 yet! And tiaras for girls, tractors for boys. Sorry, it's probably a bit shit, but I hope it'll do!

Beans33 · 09/04/2010 13:01

PS Smoke alarm's gone off - phew!
