Right, back now. Thanks again for the good wishes about Dad, he is so glad to be home. Won't have news on the cause of the crushed vertebrae for a good couple of weeks, amy be longer. Was painting at the house most of the day. It's been another paint themed day - started early this morning in bed with a row about paint finishes The company who were delivering the stuff for the shower room and some radiators wouldn't bring it down the path so huge row with them as well, and the stuff has gone back, and the electrician who is a friend of my sister's has quoted for the job after all. It's a lot less than round here but still tons However, I think we have to say yes as we're not going to get it cheaper. I am going to run out of money way before the end of the year if I don't sell my book, get some other work or start selling things. It really ain't good. Just as well I am a gambler by nature or I would be (more of) a nervous wreck. Spending what's left of my money on having DD2 privately is insane, given my financial picture. But I want the same experience that I had with DD1 and can't bear to do otherwise. Foolish and indulgent, most likely.

Effie, that's rough that DS2 has got the pox as well. Hope he's not too bad with it.

Dora - really sorry about your FIL. That's awful. I think what Invis says about it being harder when it's someone else is probably true. Hope your DH is bearing up.

Kiwi - hope you get a better night. I think it's a bit risky to pull out of a sale when the vendor has offered above the asking price. But I suppose it's two against one.

PD - v glad you had a good hol. Weather any good? I don't blame you for having a colonoscopy, however grotty. I am a big fan of any sort of screening, I would sign up for any available to me.

How did your prep go, Invis?

The Antipodean Club sounds so nice, Veggie. Hope DS2 perks up a bit.

Spot, I must say I liked the yellow. I think it looks more inviting than a white one would look.

Yay for the dissolution of parliament, Aubi! I am enjoying the election campaign so far, I must say, but I am sure it will pall after a time. Do you know Dublin? I've only been once, for a couple of days. What have you decided about Sweden?

JB - you were violent under sedation? Wow, what did you do? My Mum always comes round raving from general anaesthetics - laughing hysterically, shouting, screaming, that sort of thing.

SL - you've given me good ammo about the chickens - just what I feared. Letting them out at 6.30?

Mom hasn't been on since the pregnancy tests, hope she is ok. I think Rubes is just busy with other stuff actually but Aubi, you are right about the missing persons.

Trace, if it was me I think I wouldn't go to the doc with piles unless I was confident he could give me something better than the stuff available over the counter.

There was more I was going to say but I can't keep my peepers open!

zoejeanne · 08/04/2010 23:59

Hey everyone, how are you all? Before I forget ? I?ve dug out the gender sweepstake for our new babies. The predictions were as follows

Beans 2 votes for a boy, 8 for a girl
Rubena 6 votes for a boy, 4 for a girl
Summer 4 votes for a boy, 6 for a girl
LadyT 4 votes for a boy, 6 for a girl
I think that Beans and Summer don?t know what they?re having, Rubes knows but isn?t sharing and LadyT thinks she got another girl on the way ? so between us we?ve got one out of 4, and we?ll have to wait and see how we do on the others ?

WG how have you been doing this week? I hope Madam is sleeping better and that there?s been a knock on positive effect for you? Congrats to your DH

Kiwi sorry to hear you?re parents are being negative ? my Mum had a negative phase last year and I did end up saying ?if you haven?t got anything nice to say, don?t say anything at all? ? I was half joking, but it did work. Whether Mum still thinks those things I don?t know, but she?s much better about keeping them to herself. However if the favouritism continues when DD is older ? please don?t let it show to her. My Mum was convinced (and still is) than my grandparents (Dad?s parents) preferred all my cousins to me and told me her theory often (and still does), which worried me as a child. Now I don?t believe her, as I get on great with my Gran (sadly my Granddad has since died) and she (quite rightly) thinks DD is beautiful and adorable ? but Mum still has that chip on her shoulder. Yay for the walking, DD is still doing wobbly walks and its so cute ! And yay to little Invisible walking as well. Re eczema ? steroid cream cleared up DD?s (and the HV told us the latest thinking is to blast them with it several times a day for a short period of time, rather than giving tiny doses infrequently) ? we now manage it with oats in the bath and Lush Dream Cream (I thought someone on here recommended it, but maybe I got that tip from somewhere else?) Trace on swimming, we lather DD in emollient before going in the pool, then shower her off thoroughly afterwards and lather more cream on

Jolly I don?t work Fridays either, but can take another day off with enough notice if it would be easier. Would you be coming over with your DH? Has your DD cheered up again? E was apparently quite clingy and not outgoing at nursery today ? they said she didn?t have a temp and ate and slept fine, so wondered if it because she?s getting frustrated that she?s not mastering walking as quickly as she?d like ? is your DD trying new things at the moment?

LadyT I?m pleased to hear your Dad is home, it sounds incredibly painful. But at your DD with the buttery hot cross bun on her head

Spot I was very excited to read your book summary on the fb link ? well done you!

Beans blimey at how soon your ML is starting! It seems no time at all since you got pregnant. You?ll have quite a bit of time before your LO is born though, won?t you? How odd about your ex, I?d be rather freaked out I think, but I think actually it would be more weird for his current girlfriend than for you

Hi again Dora ? I hope you enjoyed your holiday? So sorry to hear about your FIL ? do you think it?s likely to be able to plan a visit?

I watched Outnumbered earlier too ? I do enjoy it, but I?m also a little scared that it is premonition of what my life will become ?

I?ve had a worried week ? my period was 6 days late and I?ve been like clockwork since DD was born. I was getting very worried I was pregnant again ? as DH is working so hard to change the nature of his business so he will be based at home rather than away during the week before we have another child and I felt guilty that I?d potentially ruined his plans (although obviously its not just my responsibility). I was so relieved when AF arrived on Wednesday and have loved every period pain and twinge so much this month ? phew, have learnt my lesson to be very careful again!

We've nearly filled this thread already - it only seems days since we started it. Any ideas for another bland and inoffensive title?

Gosh, its nearly Friday ? must go to bed. I have golf on the telly and I really don?t know why, as I find it v dull. I was enjoying the election coverage on the news ? I get quite excited about elections, but find our politics about as dull as I find golf at any other time (although, of course if I was an MP I?d do the best job ever ) Night everyone x

lowrib · 09/04/2010 00:25

Hi everyone! How are you all? I hope life's treating you and your little ones well

I'm sorry I don't pop up here any more (I was on the antenatal thread for those of you who wonder what on earth I'm on about!). I have tried a couple of times, but it just all moves so fast I can't keep up! It's really nice to bump into you sometimes on other threads from time to time though.

-- Message for Spot --

Sorry for the hijack, but I have an ulterior motive - I'm actually here hoping to tempt Spot away! Are you about? I'm arranging a toddler-friend Brighton / Hove meet-up, and I wondered if you fancy it? Thread here

Are any of the rest of you in that part of the world? You'd be very welcome if you fancy it - the more the merrier

JamInMyWellies · 09/04/2010 07:04

WG beetroot haha

PD hope it goes well.

Aub hurrah for elections and recess enjoy your time off. Did you decide to go away anywhere?

Veggie poor veggie baby hope he slept a bit and you got some rest.

I echo everyone else with the eczema both DS's get it and it absooutley trial and error. What works for A doesn't work for L.

The AB's seem to be working hurrah! So off to the zoo today with some friends. The sky is blue and Carol says it's going to be 16 degrees practically tropical.

JamInMyWellies · 09/04/2010 07:12

Poo started that last night and missed another half dozen posts.

Hello to all I missed.

KiwiPanda · 09/04/2010 09:29

Morning all!

Zoe Thanks for the advice on grandparents. I actually discovered last night that my sister had mentioned to my mum that she thought it was a bit off that my dad took 3 trilion pictures of her DD and hardly any of mine too, which was quite nice (nice that she noticed/ thought it off I mean). She and my Mum think that my dad just doesn't get kids who can't speak yet and that when DD is older and can chat to him like my niece can he'll be the same with her. But if he EVER appears to do it when I think she can tell I'll give him a piece of my mind, I can tell you!

Ooo I need to vote for the gender sweepstake!

I vote for:

Beans - a boy
Rubena -a girl
Summer - a boy
LadyT - a boy

(Purely going for the minority opinions there...)

spotofcheerfulness · 09/04/2010 09:42

Kiwi I admire your confidence facing down LadyT's scan that showed it was a girl .

LadyThompson · 09/04/2010 09:45

I thought that ALTHOUGH they did say it was only a 70% chance that it was a girl. Mind you, I think they say that only in case you decide to sue.

KiwiPanda · 09/04/2010 10:00

LOL oops didn't notice that. Hey, 30% is good odds - what will you offer me, bookies??

spotofcheerfulness · 09/04/2010 10:01

Ok, I am feeling seriously lazy today and have already out out a request on Facebook but for anyone with a creative brain and a spare couple of minutes. I am supposed to be doing my copywriting course but am stuck trying to come up with a brand name for a range of outdoor shoes for boys aged 6-8. Should evoke outdoors, adventures, Crocodile Dundee type things...
In return I will try and help you with any work you are stuck on

KiwiPanda · 09/04/2010 10:06

LadyT How rubbish that I didn't even register you are having (probably) another girl! Hooray for you, girls are clearly far superior - boys are smelly. Well known scientifically proven fact.

[Disclaimer: apart from all boys of mums on this thread]

LadyThompson · 09/04/2010 10:08

Off the top of my head:

Trampers
Walkabouts
Groundbeaters
Heroes (ok, choc manufacturers may jib at this)
Tough guys
Captains
Feetfighters

I could go on with this all day but will stop now.

Sadly I don't think you can help me with what I am stuck on (how to get more freelance work )

LadyThompson · 09/04/2010 10:09

Thanks Kiwi Although sadly my DD is quite smelly.

SummerLightning · 09/04/2010 10:11

Kiwi I am very offended. Girls are boring and play with princesses.

I also think that 30% is good odds. A BOY for LadyT. Very impressed with your DD's godfather on HIGNFY LadyT. Also very impressed with Victoria Coren. Though less impressed that DH proclaimed her "foxy".

I quite like Alexander Armstrong myself. Also I didn't think they were that insulting about MN. They're not exactly going to say "Oh MN is populated by very witty and informed mothers" as that just wouldn't be funny!! Did anyone see Victoria Coren said something mean about mumsnet on another panel show?? She got a real shoeing on here and then she actually came on mumsnet to apologise (very graciously as well).

Veggiemummy · 09/04/2010 10:13

Goedemorgan ladies how goes it with you?

I'm sitting here with my coffee feeling smug as I've just tidied the living areas, vacuumed (well the robot vacuumed) and mopped. That's quite an achievement for me before coffee! DS2 woke once so I had to resettle him but other than that he's allowed me time for housework & coffee! He is a lot of things that bug me but he does enjoy a good long nap, something I was not used to with DS1. Poor DH though he is working from home today and I usually get him a coffee around 9 but as I was determined to be a good housewifey I refused my usual early coffee to wait til I deserved it after the housework. Which meant he waited too. Bless him he nearly skilled it down in one I think.

It's so sunny today I think spring is really here. I might take the boys to the farm. Let DS2 have a roar.

Lady that's a bit crap about the delivery people. Did they take it back because they refused to take it down the path! We had a delivery of a bed once and before the delivery we got an email saying the delivery men wouldn't take their shoes off and would not carry upstairs. We thought this was fair & they explained it was for reasons of time constraints. but it was just bedroom furniture not heavy bathroom stuff. Surely two delivery guys can do it.

KiwiPanda · 09/04/2010 10:17

Summer Darn it you are right. I've got NO work done today because I'm finishing off a game of Princesses. Now where's my handsome Prince gone ...

Veggiemummy · 09/04/2010 10:18

No you are right Kiwi they do smell, just last night DH & I were discussing DS1's smelly farts! Also had to use a mens toilet to take DS1 to the loo the other day why do they smell so much?

Spot I have registered my suggestion and is quite fitting now you mention the Croc D impression as it is also a coloquial name for the v.large red kangeroos

OP posts:
KiwiPanda · 09/04/2010 10:18

Veggie you have a robot to vacuum for you? That's very technologically advanced of you. Is he a robot butler or a depressed genius a la Douglas Adams?

(don't tell me it's one of those mini vacuums with a sensor, that will totally destroy my mental picture)

Veggiemummy · 09/04/2010 10:21

What is hignfy is it on BBC iplayer? I don't think we can stream any other channels on 't Internet.

OP posts:
Veggiemummy · 09/04/2010 10:24

Sorry Kiwi yes it's a roomba, he does a very good job though, we call him wall-e (DS1 named him). I'd love to get the one that washes the floor as well, but bit expensive. When we have the dishwasher, washing machine & wall-e set to go we say the machines are doing the housework, just like was predicted in the 50's.

OP posts:
spotofcheerfulness · 09/04/2010 10:24

Thanks, LadyT! Some great suggestions. Am loving the idea of a little boy's shoes fighting with his feet

Is it travel freelancing you're after or will you write about anything else?

LadyThompson · 09/04/2010 10:26

I have often wondered that about men's loos. I have asled DP to explain several times and have never really got a satisfactory answer (though the ladies at Paddington is a bit gross).

HIGNFY is Have I Got News For You, vintage panel show devised and for many years produced by my very own DH

spotofcheerfulness · 09/04/2010 10:26

It's Have I got News for You, Veggie

LadyThompson · 09/04/2010 10:29

But my DD has smelly feet sometimes AND SHE DOESN'T EVEN WALK. What will they be like when she can?

Oh, I'll write about anything and did so in the distant past but all my recent cuttings are travel and for one Derry Street based Sunday newspaper and so it's more likely for me to get that sort of work. I think I have to try harder but you know what it's like

SummerLightning · 09/04/2010 10:36

Oh my DS doesn't have smelly feet? Do yours really have smelly feet? Or maybe I am just immune to the smell. I like blowing raspberries on his feet as it makes him laugh.

LadyT maybe you should write some witty mothering tips!! I am sure you can write something more amusing than Zoe whatsername or any of the other mummy columnists.

Or craft yourself as the new Kirsty with all your DIY experience.
