Hello all,
Sneaky post from work!
A happy birthday to Effie, I hope you have an OK day at home with your spotty boy and pox is gone soon.

kiwi sorry about your gran and the verdict. That all sounds awful and awful to have it brought to the front of your mind again.

Oh I forgot to say hi to Poison she is probably on holiday now, but hi anyway in case you are lurking and what great news about your brother.

Rubes I had to cancel my appointment with the hospital to talk about the birth, so there are no decisions there yet, my new appt is not until the end of May. My current thought is a natural birth with minimal intervention but a low tolerance for going "sod it, let's do a c-section".
Bascially my preferences for outcome of the birth would be

  1. Straightforward natural birth
  2. planned c-section
  3. Emergency c-section where they decide to do it really quickly
  4. Complicated natural birth or crappy drawn out labour followed by emergency c-section. I guess that is obvious (though I suppose some people may prefer difficult natural birth to c-section). So basically I think I am going to say no induction, c-section instead. And preferably intermittent monitoring though I am not sure they will go for that. Though they gave me continuous monitoring last time and they were still quite good about letting me move around.

katie sorry to hear about the bullying. i don't really have any advice, but my thoughts would be not to worry about sounding overprotective and definitely go in and talk to them as soon as possible.

beans great news on your house!! Fingers xed they can sell theirs. Ours has had 11 viewings but no offers as yet. Apparently a couple of those were interested but haven't decided. Feedback is that people aren't keen on the main road location, which we knew would happen. House is cheaper because of it (and was when we bought it) so hopefully someone will not be bothered by that soon.

Aubergines · 26/03/2010 10:38

Happy Birthday Effie! You could always sneak the boys put for a nice country walk somewhere remote where they won't infect anyone. Enjoy your day.

Just back from DD1's nursery Easter bonnet parade. So sweet but some parents aren't half competitive, seriously. I mean I "helped" DD1 make her bonnet but under her instruction (although I drew the line when she wanted to model "baby Jesus dying with naughty robbers on a big cross of dying"). Some mothers must have spent days blowing egged, painting them, inventing origami shapes, constructing layers upon which to display their handy work... Needless to say DD1 did not win her class prize!

TheInvisibleHand · 26/03/2010 10:44

Happy birthday effie!

Beans - Great news on the house!

LadyT - I guess have low expectations of paciness in French films...I did think KST was brilliant in it.

Veggiemummy · 26/03/2010 10:55

Aubi that is hilarious, the big cross of dying! Shame the other kids didn't show their own work. My mum was a big believer in us kids doing our own assignments etc for school even though the other kids obviously handed in work that their parents did the lion share. I never won any prizes either but a) the teachers did tend to work out what was not done by the kids and mark accordingly b) to this day I appreciate my mum doing that and feel it put me in good stead for uni and my general work ethic.

Whizz has just had her first official haircut! V sweet, but think me doing her haircuts were just as good. Never mind - don't think I'll spend the money again for a while! Was fun going though. Plus she is now pushing herself into standing position and setting off walking, which is great! Hurray!

Aubs - I love that about the baby Jesus idea - v sweet indeed! She deserved to win for her imagination alone!

SL - your birth idea sounds just right - well done you.

I'm off for lunch with my sisters this afternoon - got a babysitter coming round at 12, then I'm heading off into the ether to scoff loads and maybe buy myself a little treat in the form of summer maternity trousers or dress. Brilliant! Figure I'll be wearing it longer than just until the baby arrives as my gut will stay huge for ages - just like last time. In fact, it was just like a deflated balloon waiting to be refilled, which it is being now!!

EffiePerine · 26/03/2010 12:31

Boys are playing in the garden - thank goodness for ok weather. May take them to the woods later - good plan Aub.

WomanwiththeYellowHat · 26/03/2010 13:54

Just a quick one to say that the Easter bonnet has made me laugh and laugh - just the sort of thing my DD1 would do. SHe was on the tube a couple of weeks ago in rush hour (all three of us were - it was unavoidable but not ideal!) and when she heard the announcer talk about the next station she piped up, in this silent, 8 30am carriage, 'Mummy is that God?'!

LadyThompson · 26/03/2010 14:02

Aubi, I don't think they should have Easter Bonnet COMPETITIONS, myself, though we did at school. My parents never helped me but then I didn't expect them to. My hats were always rubbish However, if you had fashioned a cross complete with Jesus and attendant robbers on other crosses I think it would have been the most interesting bonnet in the school...

sybilfaulty · 26/03/2010 14:22

We've been thinking about the Easter story too and I asked DD1 why she thought we had hot cross buns at Easter. She suggested we ate them because they had God in them.

Loving the Easter bonnet ideas. I think parents who do things for their children (in their stead as it were) are a bit sad. There is a gentle charm to a child's effort that is completely lacking when the adult has clearly muscled in.

Sorry I didn't get back on last night. Katie, I am so sorry your poor DS1 has had such a horrid time. I would speak to the school and let them deal with it. I think Effie's idea about seeing the policy on bullying is a good one. Perhaps they could also discuss how one behaves nicely with others at circle time or some such?

Veggie, the yoga sounds brilliant. Are there any souls there who might like a coffee or something beforehand? Very envious of the Clap Junc meet tomorrow as well but can't join alas as am at panty old work. Have a great time!

We had a night of sick here, and now DD1 is languishing on the sofa in front of Snow White while I try to get some work done for tomorrow. Am knackered. Have also got a sore throat and a headache so hope I am not coming down with it.

Beans33 · 26/03/2010 16:52

Oh Sybs - hope you feel better soon and the nippers get better too.

I have a question - anyone got any tips on fingernail cutting? It is so hard to do and it's driving me mad!!! DD just squirms away and whinges when I try to do it. Driving me potty!

Beans33 · 26/03/2010 17:03

PS Have just found an AIBU thread about having sex in front of 18 month old. Clearly a wind up as original poster has never come back on it, hilarious!

Oh and DD now standing herself up and walking at last! Still staggering and falling like a bit of a drunkard, but really getting there - hurray!

daisydora · 26/03/2010 17:28

Hellloooo...

I have decided that DH can go screw himself but I am not staying away any longer! I got an e-mail of LadyT earlier and it made me think that I have really missed you all, and well its not fair that he is the one that snooped on my messages and yet I am the one that seems to have got all the shit off him. Yes he is grieving but I can't be there for him anymore than I have been and so I need some support/somewhere to offload too. Unfortunately my BF is in the middle of a divorce, my other good friend is in the middle of her wedding (and can't deal with anything else), my mum is worried as my Nan is having some sort of breakdown after all her cancer treatment and my grandad is in hospital with a chest infection/possible pnuemonia. Aarrgghhhh...damn it I love this thread and you lot and so here I am, enough of that now anyway!

Pg ladies how are you all? summer, beans, Rubs and ladyt*? BTW lady congrats on another lady and thanks for the email, made me see how much I was missing out on.

Oh and rubs DS was cs at 38+5(or 6). He was fine, consultant didn't think it was an issue.

katie Your poor DS! And as for the letter from school, bloody hell I'd have been straight down there giving them what for. But effie's advice was better...I do hope things get better forhim soon.

veggie Bummer about the bikes, but yoga sounds good (and a little hardcore!)

Kiwi about the case and your Gran. Much love to all your family.

poison I know is on holiday but just wanted to say what brilliant news for your brother! Definately worth some celebratory drinks on holiday.

sybs sorry about the illnesses, can you have an early night tonight and maybe head off any lurgy thats coming your way?

wg WOW on the running! Was sorry to read you have been a bit down lately, how are you feeling now?

effie Happy birthday!!

trace Hows things??

I see kayz hasn't really been on, hope your okay if your reading.

To everyone else I've missed sorry but sending you all much love

Beans33 · 26/03/2010 17:32

HELLO DAISY! It's so smashing to see you're back and to hear you're ok. I think you're absolutely right. And we've all missed you and your lovely wise words terribly! Of course you need some support and surely best to offload on us, who don't necessarily know your DH and won't judge him, than on someone who knows him and might have a go at him. And I think I can safely say that everyone on here are the most unjudgemental people that I've had the good fortune to meet (sort of)!

Kiwi and verso - are you on for tomorrow pm at all? No worries if not, just let me know.

xx

LadyThompson · 26/03/2010 17:42

Yay, Daisy, so glad to see you back! And it's Friday as well (I don't know why I am saying that seeing as I don't actually go out to work but I still get that Friday feeling). Ohh, I'm not surprised your Nan is feeling a bit battered after all she has gone through, and I do hope the hospital can sort out your Grandad. I hope you don't get into trouble for coming back though.

I know I am up the duff but I am really looking forward to a (single) glass of Rose tonight. Mmmm. It's a Lebanese one and Lebanese wines are often particularly nice (I think). What's for supper, Beans? I want a Thai takeaway but am having cauliflower cheese and an aubergine dish (melanzane), all home made. No tips on the nailcutting - DD loathes it.

Have started my campaign for the first name I want for my DD2. DP isn't having it at the mo even though I have offered him free reign with the middle names I've got five and a half months to wear him down.

Beans33 · 26/03/2010 17:49

Supper for me? Hmmm, torn between chinese take away (hee hee) and chicken with bacon and mushroom cheese sauce with pasta... dribble. Easy with either of those!

Oooh, what's your choice for a girl's name? Are you allowed to tell us LadyT?? Fingers crossed!

LadyThompson · 26/03/2010 17:54

Nah, I'm not telling anyone Not until the baby is born. I mean, there are a handful of names I QUITE like but only one I REALLY like. Oh bother, I wish DP would just say yes.

Heavens, I am starving. I have already had some raw carrots but oddly, they weren't v satisfying. I do try to be good. Maybe another coffee....

Aubergines · 26/03/2010 18:57

Yay Daisy!!! It's so lovely to see you back. I was just thinking about you earlier and worrying as you have also been quiet on FB. Now I need worry no more. Lovely.

Dora - loved your story about DD thinking God was speaking to her on the train. Did the other passengers have a chuckle!

Damn, kids want attention as it's bed time, how inconsiderate of them. Off to read 3 Little Pigs...

Oh and I am having an Indian for dinner. Mmmmmm.

EffiePerine · 26/03/2010 18:59
KiwiPanda · 26/03/2010 19:04

Beans I;m definitely up for tomorrow - I think you said 3pm which is good with me. I sent a friend request to you on Facebook btw if you want to arrange details there!?

Veggiemummy · 26/03/2010 19:23

We're having our usual Indonesian takeaway. DH goes in their every Friday after gym. We always get the same thing. They practically have it served up when he gets there. Restaurants generally aren't much chop over here so we are just sticking to what we know is good. There is a nice looking Italian place we might go to when we can sort a baby sitter.

Sybs I probably could sort out a coffee but a) it's against the law to eat or drink just before yoga and b) the class is at 6.30pm so pretty much running around like a headless chook getting boys dinner sorted and the settled before I leave. I do have some mummy date prospects though. My ANZWC membership is sorted and am going to a coffee morning just after Easter. The women lives just around the corner which is good. Have put myself down to host one too which is good I love coffee mornings. Hope they don't do instant though.

Beans I think kiwi said she was coming to yours?

Hoooooorrrrrrrtaaaaaaaaaaay Daisy coming back. Missed you lovely Dais! Sorry to hear all you Nan and family probs, but you know you cab just plop it all into the basket.

We went to a brilliant play thing at the Maritime museum in Rotterdam today. The boys loved it esp DS2. It was so funny they have this bit on the floor which is kind of sunken in with perspex over it so the kids can look down and walk over some little displays in the floor. last time we were there DS2 kept trying to crawl into them. This time he kept walking carefully around them which was so funny. In some cases there was only a thin strip of floor between them. Eventually he stepped on one and was completely astounded that he could walk on them. Then he started jumping up and down on them as if he might be able to break through. Very cute.

Dora that is so funny about the God announcer, and glad you've stuck with us even though we chatter so much. Dora I meant to ask, are you a SAHM or do you work. And if you work which days do you have off? Only asking so I know when you will be able to join me for a virtual cuppa.

Lady I love the way you say ''bother I wish DP would just say yes', as if it's a forgone conclusion and he is just being troublesome making you put the effort in of bring him around. I think I'm happy your not telling us, I really loved the surprise of O's lovely name and am now (sadly) quite looking forward to finding out the next one. It must be as spectacular as O's though. I have an unusual name but my siblings names are all quite normal (Joe, Alan & Lisa then Nerida! Right out of the blue). I do quite like my name but would have liked them to have equally unusual names.

Oh Kiwi has already replied Beans.

Beans are you a friend of mine on Facebook? Kiwi can you suggest me as a friend to Beans if not. If that's ok Beans.

Dora are you on Facebook?

LadyThompson · 26/03/2010 19:36

Veggie, it feels a bit like that It is quite a fancy name but not a long name. Your day sounds lovely again, Veggie. And Indonesian? I am tres tres jealous (and of Aubi's Indian).

My sister, BIL and two fabby nephews are bringing my Mum and her DP down for lunch tomorrow as a surprise for her. We are going to show them the new house. I am not telling any of them I'm pregnant though - not sure why but I want to keep it under my hat for a while longer. It's nice to talk about it on here and to DP and nowhere else.

Have great Friday nights, all. There's boss all on the telly. Syb, I hope you are feeling better and Effie, I hope you are having a little celebration tonight...

JollyBear · 26/03/2010 19:56

Hello everyone,

I've been lurking all week as my mum has been staying because DH is away.

Zoe Hurray for E walking! I loved your story. So cute

WG Sorry things are getting you down. TTC is soooooo hard with long, unpredictable cycles. Giving accupuncture another whirl sounds like a good plan.

rub I was sectioned at 38.3 I think. She was due 26th Dec and born 15th. Is that right?! 38 weeks is fine, don't panic!

PD Great news on your brother, have a fantastic holiday.

kiwi Your DD sounds adorable, kissing boys eh? You'll have to watch that! Sorry about the verdict. It must be devestating for your family.

beans I couldn't stop chuckling at your labour story! Shining a light up your bum . You are so funny.

spot Grrr to the seagulls. I share your pain but with bloody geese. If you come up with any ideas that don't involve shotguns, let me know. DD was up at 5.45 this morning because of the damn creatures.

veggie I love that you have a mummy bike now . My mum used to have a ladies bike with a massive basket on the front, I used to think it was the bees knees.

LadyT* Hurrah for the scan and another girl! Good luck with getting your name. I never succeeded getting my fave names on the shortlist!

Happy birthday effie. Hope the pox isn't too itchy and horrid.

Aub How funny about the Easter bonnets!

Welcome back daisy, it is lovely to have you back. Sorry things are so difficult at the moment.

katie I can't imagine what the teacher was thinking there.

It was quite strange today when my Dad told off DD for pouring a bit of water from her sippy cup on a cushion. I thought it was a bit much as it isn't like they are houseproud at all, but he was quite stern with her and she looked so shocked! I tend to not make a fuss and just take the cup off her, maybe I'm too soft. My dad was always quite strict on certain things, good manners etc. We used to have to ask, 'please may I leave the table?', after tea. Once we were in the Lake Distract eating fish and chips sat on a wall and my older brother said 'please may I leave the wall?'. I was reminded of it today and it made me chuckle. It also made me miss my brother . We weren't particularly close but it would have been nice to chuckle with him about it IYKWIM. Gracious, I'm rambling! DH is still away so I'm lacking human contact.

I'm jealous of all these lovely takeaways. I might get one tomorrow just for me .

spotofcheerfulness · 26/03/2010 20:30

Hello everyone, blimey it's hard to keep up these days, must the the FUCKING SEAGULLS addling my brain. Jolly, can we go halves on that shotgun? I'm afraid I would have no compunction whatsoever in pulling the trigger if it would stop the dawn screaming chorus. at your brother asking to get off the wall. I think there's a place for different types of discipline so long as it's consistent. Your DD will know about how your dad reacts and how you do, and if you're happy with your own approach there's no reason to change it. Apparently it's also the case with our partners/husbands. So it doesn't matter if DP and I don't always let T do the same thing (which frequently happens) so long as we are consistent ourselves. But hey, I read that in a book so lord knows if it's actually true.

Welcome back, Daisy. It's good to see you and sorry to hear about your grandparents. That's a lot of illness you've had to deal with recently. Please post whenever you can/need to.

Lady I think you should call DD2 Nerida. It's a lovely name, would go well with Octavia, and well....it would be a suitable way to honour our lovely Veggie .

Effie. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! So sorry about the spots but hope you've managed to have a good day nonetheless.

Sybil, sorry to hear about the sickness. That's rubbish . Hope you get a better night tonight. How are things with you and DH now?

I saw the Scott-Thomas film (can never remember titles) and really enjoyed it, I lived in Nancy for a few years in my early 20s and it took me right back .

Right, need some more (medicinal) red wine. Got a new cold and sore throat (thank you nursery) that needs numbing. Am going to a MN meetup tomorrow in Brighton. Feels like a blind date though I'll probably discover people I've already talked to there. Or have bumped into at soft play or summat.

WG, are you there? How are things today?

Oh, and really enjoying the tales of your DCs talking about Easter. Can't wait until T says something other than ssssssssssssssss. or Shhhhhhhhhhhh.

spotofcheerfulness · 26/03/2010 20:30

That first sentence says it all.
