fruit oh I hope it isn't the cats they are my first babies. They are DDs pets now she adores them. I could not bear them not to be here with us. We will try everything else before getting them rehomed. How difficult for you though you poor thing being so allergic. A friend of mine is too, at the Easter meal on Sunday at my Greek friend's house, he had to take piriton as their new cat sent him streaming and running and wheezing even with piriton, he had to leave early. bbl sorry to hear about toby having an inhaler, i think i remember you saying now. Have they referred him to respitory consultant? allergy specialist? I am going to insist we get a referral when I see the gp on friday.

PavlovtheCat · 07/04/2010 09:37

yes, even now with DS being so young people say 'oh he has a chesty cough!' like I don't know, or like I need to be doing something right then to stop it. Everywhere, to the point I feel like walking into a room and saying 'before you pick him up, yes he has a grumbly chest, yes we are dealing with it, no its not a chest infection'. I feel questioned and feel like I have to justify what is going on with him everywhere we go. Its horrible isn't it?

SirBoobAlot · 07/04/2010 10:05

Happy birthday Laugs!

Thanks SirBoob!

Pav unfortunately an allergy specialist is likely to suggest the cats. With asthma they look more at the surroundings than things like food, as allergies tend to airborne. I think pets and house dust mites are often the biggest causes. (I don't mean they have caused him to have asthma, but that if he is asthmatic, they might cause an attack). That doesn't mean you have to get rid of them, but it would be good to see if keeping them out of the bedroom etc helps.

DontWorryBaby · 07/04/2010 10:24

Happy Birthday Laugs, have a good one!

misssese · 07/04/2010 10:24

I bought the honey bead one for Pearl!
Quite enjoy being a hippy mom hehe

BeckyBendyLegs · 07/04/2010 10:38

Pav it's respiratory consultant but will takes weeks I think as things are soooo slow here. We really pushed for the dermatologist and only because I sent DH to see the GP guns blazing did we get fast tracked for that. I would be as pushy as you can with your GP. It works! I hope it isn't our cats too Have you considered cranial osteopathy? Toby has had two sessions and I think it has helped him. He has two more. The total cost will be about £100 but worth it I think.

Happy birthday Laugs!

Toby is awake from his nap, better go get him and let DS1 and DS2 have some Easter egg, they have been asking me since 8am when they can have some!

SirBoobAlot · 07/04/2010 11:44

Why did I go and see the doctor I know I don't like? He once again managed to prove me correct in thinking he is an arse. Told me to stop over reacting and take some paracetamol. Though the following was my favourite:

Me: I had my son five months ago and -

GP: I think your DOB must be wrong.

Me: Sorry?

GP: Your date of birth. It says 1991.

Me: That's correct.

GP: That makes you 18.

Me: Yes..?

GP: And you have a baby.

Me: Yes..?

GP: And you're 18? < sigh >

WTF. AGGGHHH!!!

As you were.

Sirboob I have had similar conversations. they can be annoying at times. Dh gets them all the time, especially at work. most recently one of the managers was celebrating his birthday, sat round a table with all the managers of their store enjoying cake and he said

manager (who's birthday it was) :"26! Ah to be the youngest manager in the building!"

dh: "pardon?!"

other manager: "yeah, Im the youngest here at 26."

dh: "You've got four years on me sunshine!! I'm 22!"

other manager: "No never, you look older than me, plus you are married and have two kids. You are having me on."

dh: "do you want me to get out my driving license to prove it?

other manager just stares in disbelief. after a while;

other manager: "must be the stress of having two kids then..."

Fruitpastels · 07/04/2010 16:02

I was thinking of you hobnob earlier. Did the poop arrive? We're on day 8 here.

Just gave C some bread and a banana. He is loving this new thing called food!!

sirboob What a stupid Doctor!! Don't see him again. He sounds like he should go in to retirement!

Pav I hope your cats aren't part of the cause . Pets are like family. I'm almost glad we don't have any as I know how attached we become to our animals.

Thanks for the link misssese And been meaning to say, what a stong baby girl you have! I can't believe the video clip of her trying to crawl

Happy Birthday laugs Hope you had a lovely lunch

Scarlotti Liking your profile pic. You new haircut looks very nice

Laugs · 07/04/2010 17:26

Thanks all, I had a nice lunch out with a couple of friends although couldn't properly relax with both DD and DS needing me.

SirBoob / Trikken that is the opposite of DH, he gets ID'd for lottery tickets. He's forever saying "I am 28. I am married, I have two children!". Once we went for a meal with his dad and the waiter thought I was his dad's wife!! Gah! (We are the same age)

Pavlov I hope I didn't sound insensitive before re the cats. Of course every case is different. I really hope it's not the cats as they are part of your family, but when I have asked for allergy testing for DD, the GP has not shown any interest, the questions I was asked were all environmental - does anyone smoke in the house, do you have pets, do you have carpets, do you have central heating etc. I mentioned the idea of milk intolerance to the GP who dismissed it saying that would normally manifest itself as stomach complaints, not breathing. I did try taking DD off dairy anyway as it is mucus-forming, but noticed no difference. My mum thought that had a positive effect on me as a child though. I hope you have some luck tomorrow.

Laugs · 07/04/2010 17:48

Meant to say 'when I asked for food allergy testing'. Come to think of it, I'm not sure if my GP isn't a bit rubbish though. They seem far more ready to medicate than look for a cause of the problem. Maybe because asthma generally has many causes? I'm not sure.

BeckyBendyLegs · 07/04/2010 18:41

Laugs my GP dismissed my suggestion about milk intolerance as well. She told me to get rid of our cats (in front of the DSs which was totally out of order I thought). It is so true that they'd rather treat the reaction than find the cause. My GP basically said it was a waste of time trying to find the cause as it could be 'absolutely anything'.

helips · 07/04/2010 19:51

sirboob What a horrible doctor, definitely avoid seeing him again if you can.

laugs Happy birthday!

fruit sounds like the weaning is going well for you, I can't wait to start Millie. My baby led weaning book arrived today so going to have a good look through that before I start.

My boob is feeling much better today, just thought you'd all like to know am relieved I don't have to go to the doctors for anti-b's

Millie has been rolling around like nobody's business today, she has gone to sleep already as se must be exhausted! Also, I'm sure she said dada earlier but I keep telling her that her first word should be mama!

scarlotti · 07/04/2010 20:45

SirBoob at your gp, what an arse!

Fruit thanks how are you going about the feeding? Are you just giving him stuff and seeing what he'll do with it? Am still being rubbish at getting it sorted and my confidence isn't enough to carry me through iyswim. A friend mentioned today that I might not get enough food into him only using finger foods and that knocked me again. Sigh.

Sorry to hear about all these allergies. Hope everyone gets to keep their family pets.

weston · 07/04/2010 21:17

hey all

back from sunny ireland, christening was big success, as it was at 9pm has decided was doing to be disaster but with 1,000 onlookers DD1 was tantrum free DD2 smiled at everyone and it was a great holiday, think managed to drink all the units I missed in the last year..

DD2 has a cough also again, started with cold last fri so assume its just build up of crap, but when is a cough not just a cough..been a week now, makes her sick up some of her feeds and i am supposed to be fattening her up, thinking of taking to doc tom but will they say anything other than its just a cough..

will catch up on rest of posts once get some sleep

PavlovtheCat · 07/04/2010 22:18

weston glad you had a great time in Ireland, well done on the christening. I would take him to see the gp. If it is just a cold and cough then fine, but if not, then at least a time line is recorded, so if you ever need to go back again you can say you have already looked at it. I shall be saying that on friday, as we have taken Reuben to the gp a good few times now, so we can definitely say it is not just a cold. Hopefully in your case it is just a cold and that he feels better soon.

PavlovtheCat · 07/04/2010 22:19

I knew as I was posting that I should have been writing DD not DS sorry weston that was so crap of me. I scrolled back up to check what I had written and I was writing as if it were Reuben!

Fruitpastels · 07/04/2010 23:18

scarlotti I've started a bit earlier with the weaning to give him a small head start. In the BLW book and on some posts I've read, milk is so full of calories that it should carry them through for a few more months. I'm trying bits as we go along. I'm sticking to the first finger foods page in the book. C reached out and grabbed my sandwich today, so I gave him a bit of bread and he was happily sucking on that. I went out tonight for a meal, so didn't offer him anything this evening. I'm going to buy some avocado tomorrow and have that with my lunch and offer C some. I'm going to be relaxed with it as much as possible. It's still such early weeks. I'm sure they will be much more advanced in their interest and skills in no time at all. C has already surprised me in just 2 days how well he's doing. He's so far had carrot/greenbeans/chicken/bread/banana. Have you spoken to your CM about BLW?

scarlotti · 08/04/2010 08:06

Will reply to posts soon but need some urgent advice first ... Ioan hasn't fed since 10:30pm last night. I've dropped the early morning feed in the hope it might help him go through (he wasn't really eating then at 7am) but this morning he won't take his 7am feed.
Anyone else had anything like this? Was presuming he'd be hungry and feed normally...

Fruitpastels · 08/04/2010 08:54

Could be his teeth scarlotti. I'm sure he will feed later this morning. Maybe after the next nap he'll feel hungry. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. Possibly just an off day. Let us know how he's getting on.

scarlotti · 08/04/2010 09:36

He's fed am obviously a neurotic mother!! Think he was just a bit distracted and maybe just wasn't ravenous.
I'd presumed as I'd cut out the 5am feed he'd be starving so it threw me a bit!!
So now I know he can go 10 hours without a feed there'll be no more chowing down at 5am!!

Have spoken to the CM about BLW of sorts, she was very supportive as they have a child there who feeds herself - they just peel a pear and hand it to her! Not sure how old she is but under one I think. I need to get into the swing of it I think, so far each lunchtime we've been out so I haven't really done much more since the chip. Tried at tea one evening but he was too hungry. I think I'm going to have a little cook off tomorrow so I can have a stash of roasted veg fingers in the freezer to hand.

weston so glad the christening went well Ioan's is in two weeks so getting excited about that now, although dh and I are in disagreement about what to provide after in terms of food!

Hoping to head off to the beach today and meet my brother and family, looks like a nice day is on the cards. Going to Hastings as it's halfway between us both - let's hope it's nice!!

ursigurke · 08/04/2010 09:39

scarlotti, has he already taken some milk? It is quite long but I think, fruit is right. Paula sometimes has mornings where she would only takes two sips. And then I try and try and each time it is only those two sips. Is he fine otherwise?

I guess I need advice, too.
Yesterday we had lots of runny and mucousy poo and raised temperature at night (37.7°C). We had only a tiny poo the day before yesterday so I expected a bigger one for yesterday but she still had to poo unusually often and it got more and more runny/mucousy.
At night I didn't give her for the temperature anything just undressed her, she seemed to be cooler in the morning but I checked and it was suddenly over 38°, which shocked me a bit as she had been much hotter at night. Now it seems to be 37.1, maybe the 38 was wrong (I'm using one of those ear thingies).
She also dribbles a lot.
I guess those are all teething signs but her two bottom teeth are already out since a week and there had been no problems then. Wouldn't it be a bit late for this (strong) reaction?
I am slightly concerned it might be something else, maybe her throat as my nephew was still on antibiotics (for a sore throat) at the beginning of our holiday. He should not have been contagious anymore but it is just impossible to check her throat.
Well, I guess, I have to wait and see how she develops before going to the GP.

Ah, and I have to share my husband's reaction with you. He had been on someone's leaving drinks last night and slept in the living room. So this morning, I told him about the temperature(Paula's first btw) and he sad to Paula "oh do you have a temperature?" just as someone would say "hello cutie" and went back to bed!!!!!!

ursigurke · 08/04/2010 09:40

scarlotti, x-posted. glad to hear that he has been feeding already

scarlotti · 08/04/2010 09:46

ursi men eh?! I'd just keep an eye on Paula and see how she goes. It could be teeth although I'd imagine if she hasn't reacted to the current ones then she's likely to breeze through them. We get mucousy nappies when Ioan has a cold as the snot runs through to their tummy (yuk!)
