PavlovtheCat · 06/04/2010 21:45

scarlotti thanks

PavlovtheCat · 06/04/2010 21:49

dontworrybaby no not fallout from the smoking. fallout from having a selfish cock as a husband. The non-smoking has not exactly helped, but at least he has kept up with this, 10 days today! Reuben's cough/wheeze wakes him up, but he seems to be able to settle himself now. Like he is getting used to it. I don't want him to get used to it . I want it to go away. And it might not.

PavlovtheCat · 06/04/2010 21:50

and sorry dwb that Ethan's sleeping has gone to pot. I hope he gets some relief from his teeth soon.

scarlotti · 06/04/2010 21:56

I wonder if it's Ioan's teeth that are the problem here too then ..?

DontWorryBaby · 06/04/2010 22:08

scarlotti you'll know all of this from past experience but Ethan has all the symptoms... Chewing fingers, dribbling lots, rash round his mouth, pulling his ears and a definite 'owww' cry rather than his usual... ahem... 'waaa'. I'm persevering with teething gel or sachets during the day and just paracetamol at night when the pain seems to get the better of him. This has been 5 nights so far. Hope it passes soon.

Hope you have a good response from DH after tonight's relate.

Ethan's naps are also 30m long. Successfully extended one to just under an hour by bouncing his chair when he started to stir. No such luck today. Did you get the nap solution book? Any nuggets of advice?

pav Men!! Hope it's not still an issue with you being on mn. I really do find everyone's support and suggestions (and entertaining chat) invaluable! Hope things settle down for family pav soon.

Fruitpastels · 06/04/2010 22:20

pav sorry to hear of your troubles. I don't know much about asthma either, but I'm sure there is a high chance he will grow out of it.

scarlotti I'll purchase a bra nearer the time. I'll get a good quality one. That's good your cm is doing settling in sessions with you. I'm sure it will go well.

Sorry for those of you who are having sleepless babies as well. I've just put C down to bed. He had an hour with us in the lounge and now in bed sound asleep. The only saving grace is, he goes down without any battles. pav good to hear sleep is getting better for you.

Fruitpastels · 06/04/2010 22:22

scarlotti hope all goes well with DH's relate.

scarlotti · 06/04/2010 22:26

DWB we have dreadful dribbling, raash, chewing fingers/tongue/anything here so am sure it is teeth. Very loose nappy this morning which I remember is a symptom. Haven't yet resorted to calpol or sachets as he seems ok within himself luckily. Hopefully they'll start to break through soon and these poor babies can get a break.

Nap book is pretty good, 30 min nappers are unable to go from one cycle to the next apparently so you need to blend cycles. I will copy out some bits to post on here tomorrow, brain not functioning well enough to remember now!

SirBoobAlot · 06/04/2010 22:32

Pav would you like some cake and hugs? x

Teething - Bryn is really struggling with it, though the poor bugger has his four front ones, plus upper left side ones cutting all at the same time. However he seems a lot happier today than he was last week so hoping its close to cutting through crosses fingers

Thanks ladies . Cake sounds good sirboob .

Someone has just directed me to a support thread for those who have children with asthma. Good ol' mumsnet.

I am off to bed. I hope those with teething/non sleeping babies get some sleep tonight x

misssese · 06/04/2010 22:51

Sounds like teething scarlotti we have been having it for a good month now on and off and looking at her gums i can now see the top 6 teeth under the gums coming in- oowwwccchhh!

I am turning into a "hippy mom"decided to buy Pearl an ambre necklace its meant to help with teething?? I don't see how it can but want it to so thought i would give it a try- will let you all know how i get on!

DWB we have had the strange crying as well? That breaks my heart it really is like a little owww! Do you have a teething dummy its actually really good and I put the calgel on it the straight into her mouth so she gets the numbing and something to chew on!

sirb poor bryn hopefully they will get them out the way quick!

Venus you poor thing lack of sleep is awful!

I am sending Hugs and relaxing massages to everyone suffering with lack of sleep or Pig headed DP/DH.

Fruit I got an underwired bra from matalan that you can wear strapless its really good as I can feed in it. TMI but i just lift my breast out and push the bra down and it works fine!

Its funny how your priorities change when clothes shopping while breastfeeding.Everything I now buy has to past the " I can breastfeed in this test".

Found a fab dress/ top from h&m- jersey, fitted under the bust, just above knee length, not clingy and has press snaps running down the front for easy feeding access only £12.99 and as its not designed with the main focus on nursing it actually looks quite fashionable!

PavlovtheCat · 07/04/2010 07:28

missessse the idea with amber specifically is it should have been worn by you, so i would suggest you wear it in the day, and put it near her at night? ideally you should massage her tummy very very gently with it, rub it gently over it. It is meant to be a natural healer/pain reliever (not just physical pain, and helps women in particular restore their natural hormonal balance). Sorry, was that too hippy ?

PavlovtheCat · 07/04/2010 07:29

oh, is it an amber teething necklace, one worn around your neck that she can grab and chew on? if so that is a great idea.

Fruitpastels · 07/04/2010 08:29

misssese We have a Matalan close by, I will have a look! I'm intrigued by the amber necklace - where did you buy it from?

scarlotti · 07/04/2010 08:45

Morning

Liking the sound of that dress misssese and fingers crossed the amber necklace works! I bought some of those teething dummies, must remember to put them in the steriliser and then he can use them!

Better night to some extent here, less frequent wakings but at least he went back off ok last night. 5am feed was v short and so I put his dummy back in. We dozed until 8am today but it's his cold that's bothering him I think as there was lots of snotty noises going on. He slept much more yesterday during the day so am wondering if that helped a good night's sleep too?

Right, must get moving. This place is a tip so must stop mn-ing and get tidying!

Laugs · 07/04/2010 08:57

Pav sorry to hear about Reuben's possible asthma. DD is asthmatic, as am I. Around here they don't like to diagnose it in babies and young children (up to the age of 4 I think, but at least 2) as so many children have asthma symptoms but grow out of it. TBH I wish DD had been diagnosed earlier as she could have had preventative inhalers, but it is reassuring that so many children do outgrow this.

Don't beat yourself up about the smoke. I am no scientist, but it seems to me that it would be the smokiness more than the nicotine/ chemicals that would have affected him, and DH did not expose him to this. I react to a lot of airborne things eg incense, air fresheners, animal hair, dust, certain flowers etc, so that is something to think about. Damp in the air also affects me. Going out to the sea might be great for him though - good fresh air - and swimming is good for asthma too. Oh, also consider that his symptoms might get worse around hayfever season (May and June for me). You might have to stay indoors on high pollen count days.
Oh, propping the head-end of his cot up might help too.

Sorry that wasn't very coherent! If I think of anything else I'll let you know.

PavlovtheCat · 07/04/2010 09:12

laugs thanks for that. No DH never smoked around him, or in the house. Ever. I am a little concerned it might be the cats, as his wheezing is getting worse, and the cats are molting. He actually improves if we go outside into fresh air. I am going to buy an air purifier (hepa one) and a new hepa hoover. DH has a dust allergy so it wont hurt even it is does not stop the wheezing. I am going to stop the cats going into the bedrooms, and going to buy a new cat brush and brush them every day.

helips · 07/04/2010 09:21

Morning all,

Pav sorry to hear about Reubens possible asthma, poor little thing. My dad has been suffering with Hay fever recently, I wonder if that could be affecting Reuben?

Oooh, gotta run baby crying, damn wanted to say more! Back later...

ursigurke · 07/04/2010 09:21

Hi everybody, I'm back, had nice holidays altough easter sunday and my egg hunt have been a bit of a nightmare.
pavlov, sorry to hear about the asthma. My brothers had both lots of problems as children but are quite ok now.
helips, exciting news about Singapore.
sleepless nights, it seems as some of you are now in the place I was a couple of weeks ago. Paula was never a great sleeper so it would be a lie if I told you that she is sleeping through now but it is much better again, I guess normal for us. So it will pass for all of you too.
teething, Paulas two bottom teeth are out! I could not believe it when she bite me in the finger at night and I felt something sharp. She doesn't seem to suffer and bf is ok too. Ok, need to feed, continue later

Fruitpastels · 07/04/2010 09:23

pav You could be on the right path regarding your cats. I have loads of allergies. I was tested before I fell pregnant with DS2 as I was having a sinus operation. I'm highly allergic to cats, dogs, horses and loads more. When I visit my parents, I have to take piriton as they have 2 dogs. My mum keeps the dogs out of the lounge and the bedroom we sleep in. I sneeze like mad when I'm near any of my allergens and I get very breathless with I'm around cats and dogs. I had enhalers a few years ago and as I smoked for a while that did me no favours. Everytime I caught a cold it would go to my chest. I'm much healthier now an I haven't smoked in 6 years. Poor DS' won't ever have a pet due to me!!

Fruitpastels · 07/04/2010 09:24

Well, maybe a fish as a pet, but no furry creatures!!

BeckyBendyLegs · 07/04/2010 09:31

Pav Toby also has 'possible' asthma and we have an inhaler. We're waiting for a referral to see if he does or not. DS1 had it and has more-or-less grown out of it (it only appears when he has a cold coming on and only at night). It is not your fault. Toby coughs a lot but the GP couldn't hear a wheeze (hence why we thought the silent reflux might be the cause but still not sure). He still coughs a lot and I get fed up of people saying 'oh dear, who has a bad cough then?'

We have two cats... but don't know if it is them causing Toby's eczema and possible asthma. It could be but it could be anything. Since DH has asthma and had eczema as a child it might be just genetic.

Laugs · 07/04/2010 09:32

I'm the same Fruit - horses are the worst for me, followed by cats, some dogs are not too bad. Pav can you brush the cats outside? Just that if you are brushing them, you will get more hair into the air. I think it's a good idea to keep them out of your room too.

Ursi Wow, Paula has teeth!

And forgot to say Missesse that is the cutest video ever of Pearl!

It's my birthday today. It's been pretty normal so far (babies pay no regard for birthday lie-ins - huh!) but I'm meeting a couple of friends for lunch.

BeckyBendyLegs · 07/04/2010 09:35

FP how about a snake? But then you'd have to feed it furry creatures

I think sleep goes to pot somewhat at this age. They all seem to be doing it! As far as I remember there's another phase at about 8 months when they learn that staying awake is more fun than sleeping! Toby wakes about 3-4 times a night every night.

Laugs · 07/04/2010 09:35

BBL people are forever saying to DD "ooh that's a bad cough" and then throwing me a look as if to say, "why is she out of the house with this cough?" I can't keep her in forever! (perhaps slightly paranoid though?)
