raggie DH used to buy me McSweeney's for my birthday/ Christmas every year. I haven't actually read that many of them, but I really love the jackets, typesetting etc! They just look like perfect books. I actually prefer the less quirky ones though. There is one that's a pile of junk mail, which always falls off my bookshelves. Grr.

hobnob57 · 11/03/2010 17:52

PHEW.

I'm not pregnant. I must just have a bug. I can't believe I'd even managed to consider the possibility, but whilst cooking dinner I just couldn't take my mind off the remotest chance that that might be why I'm feeling so crap that I took a test. And it was (no surprise) negative.

My guts have been horrid since Monday. Mega wind all day Monday, loose movement on Tuesday, more wind and general urgh feeling down there since, despite a normalish movement today. I got a stinking headache last night which left me feeling nauseous. I woke today feeling better but it's been creeping back. I almost passed out at the chiropractor today and she had to get me a bottle of water, and I've been feeling increasingly nauseous and woosy all day. I either have a bug or am not responding well to being a bit busier the past couple of days and not being able to pig out all day. Low blood sugar and all that, along with something else. I don't know, but I wish it would go away. I'm not relishing the thought of eating tea, despite being starving. I never get stomach bugs, so I guess my immediate reaction was to associate all of this with morning sickness . I suppose this is what comes from having a DD in nursery....

BBL how is DS after the cranial osetopath? I took DD to a chiropractor today who does CO, but she seemed to concentrate on her back where she was tense around the bowel region. Whether what she did will have a long term outcome or not, DD had one of those MEGAPOOS this pm. Sirboob I saw your FB update and could well have been in the same shoes. This poo was up the back and through the vest and top too. I think I may have perfected rolling the affected garments in on themselves until there is a poo-free surface to pull over her head. One of the mummy tricks that I wish I'd had 1st time around... She still had poo all the way up her back though. ew.

roomac · 11/03/2010 18:38

Poor you hobnob - DS1 had similar last week so there is something going round. Re nursery before having children I didn't have a single day off sick, after to start off with it seemed like either ds1 or I was ill every other week. If it's any consolation neither ds1 or 2 (now 7 and 5) had a single day off last year . . . talk about tempting fate! Hope you feel better soon.

Liv also does the explosive nappy thing - one is due any time now come to think about it. . .

weston · 11/03/2010 18:45

hope DD improves pavlov i feel your pain! hopefully its a 'phase'

enjoy the chrisetning beepbeep

DDD2 is now sleeping 7 to 7 and feel like a new person, hopefully its not a phase..

find it really hard to watch 'one born every minute', i want to but find watching labour disturbing!

pregnant...eh hello sex....

lemontop · 11/03/2010 19:38

Hi all
Nice new thread
I'm still struggling to keep up with it!

hobnob sorry to hear you're feeling so poorly but must be a relief to know you're not preggers. I had a similar worry when Isaac was about 2 months old. Would've been a bit of a shock.

Hope all the poorly babies get better soon.

I took Isaac to the cinema to watch Alice in Wonderland in 3D at the big scream showing today. There were about 100 babies who were all very well behaved considering. Think I'll go again as it was nice to do something grown up.

We're considering taking Isaac to a family friendly festival this summer but am wondering if it'll just be too much of a logistical nightmare with sterilising and stuff. Has anyone taken a baby camping? Isaac will be about 9.5 months.

Laugs · 11/03/2010 19:49

I haven't lemontop but I like the idea. We've taken DD to lots of small local one-day festivals, but I wish we'd gone to a bigger one while she was younger. Now it would be a nightmare as she's too old for a buggy but not old enough not to get lost. Make the most of it while he can't walk!

hobnob phew! Although you have been a wee bit broody haven't you? Actually I can't wait til one of us gets pregnant again, as long as it's not me.

We've all had a tummy bug too. Yuk.

scarlotti · 11/03/2010 20:29

Hi all

Back home from Mum's now so have managed to catch up, although have forgotten who said what!
Ioan has a cold of some sort, lots of congestion overnight resulting in him waking around 4am as he can't breathe properly. We've had the gunk coming out of one eye too. Dosed him with calpol earlier as he was hot and that seems to have helped. So I spent from 4am to 7am with him propped up by pillows in my bed, which helped him sleep but obviously didn't allow me to sleep as I lay there next to him almost holding him in place so he didn't fall
Am hoping for a better night tonight. We have some nasal drops from the chemist made by the calpol people - they seem to be a spray rather than like the saline drops. Also have karvol which seem to help too.

Weaning wise though he's going great guns! He loves his food and wolfs down the little pots I've made. I suspect we'll be moving quicker than I originally thought - he's already on a full 1oz pot and it's only day 5. We've done pear, apple and carrot so far and I've had the nappies to prove he's digesting it ok!!! Had forgotten that those sweet smelling bf nappies end up disappearing...!

Have also mastered the art of folding the explosive poo inside the offending article of clothing to get it over his head ... we've had quite a few of those over the past months.

Not liking what I've heard about the 3rd set of jabs, Ioan's are due in a couple of weeks so hopefully he'll be over this cold before hand otherwise we will be delaying them.

skorpion · 11/03/2010 20:44

lemontop has the rash gone? We're thinking of taking LO to a festival, too. We go to the Fairport Cropredy Convention in August - it's very family-centred, full of children and older folk. No drugs or any problems that we saw in the three years we went and it is just a few miles from home. We'll probably camp.
I thought at 9 months you do not need to bother with sterilising stuff anymore...? Lucy's forever shoving grubby little fists in her mouth now, and soon they'll all be crawling and licking floors so seems little point... Or am I completely wrong on this one?

hobnob crikey, I think I may have forgotten what to do to make a baby, can't even imagine another pregnancy. Hope you'll get better soon.

laugs nice to see you again. Have things healed OK?

This baby-making stuff... I read somewhere that prolactin diminishes libido and I think they could base that study on me. Starting to feel really sorry for DH... I want my mojo back!

skorpion · 11/03/2010 20:48

scarlotti x-posted. Great news on weaning, well done Ioan. Now, if you excuse me I'm off for some carrot, too, raw. Your talk of mush has made me hungry. I'll forget the paragraph about the poo...

Oh, who am I kidding... it's got to be some cake....

PavlovtheCat · 11/03/2010 21:10

Just checking in.

Awake between 2am and 6am, when i thrust a very awake baby on to DH and said take him and let me sleep. Which I did til just before 9am. woo 4 hours broken sleep (went to be late). Like you scarlotti has something going on worse than his usual mucous, he can't breathe at night, its horrible. We have that calpol nasal spray too. A good tip for it - make sure you take the cap off in the middle of the night, else it won't work so well , also have baby olbas oil and he seems a bit better today.

lemontop festivals will be easier with a non-moving baby than a moving one, as long as you take handgel and sterilising tablets. What festi? I think you should do it, with a view of keeping everything to an absolute minimum and with the view that you can always leave if it gets too much.

Reuben is asleep, unusually early. Off to bed. Sleep well everyone x

SirBoobAlot · 11/03/2010 21:13

Wook highly possible How long are down for? Would you like to get coffee if you have the time?

Hobnob I could have understood if it had been after I had taken the vest off... But this was before < boak > And at the thought of being pregnant!!!

Scarlotti yey for Ioan!! Hope you had a good time at your mums

I had such a lovely day today I met two new mums who were sat on the table next to me at a cafe - I ended up sitting and and having lunch with them, it was so nice!

My friend is still in hospital, waiting to be taken to a specialist unit. She is just over 5st at the moment and being tube fed. Breaks my heart, she's such a lovely person. But I go in with a huge smile and plonk Bryn on her lap as he always smiles at her and cheers her up. Its hard sometimes though.

hello all

At my mum's in sheffield hence not been posting my usual amounts of rubbish fascinating titbits this week.

BBL great to hear that the glass blowing went well - can we see a photo of the vase you made please? How did the appointment witht the cranial osteopath go?

pav at your mortgage company. Bunch of arses. I love the attitude that it's somehow their money and they are doing you a favour by even considering returning it.

wook Well done on the running! you are an inspiration. I got my sports bra out last week and it does fit so I have no excuse not to get started, esp as James is now sleeping a bit better again. Agree with you on the early morning runs - much the best time of day to go, really does energise doesn't it? That group sounds great too, v jealous. Please keep posting updates to inspire!

Hobnob I am nosey like interior design. If you're still looking for unqualified opinions on what you should do with those rooms I'm your woman!

DWB sorry to hear LO's beeing so off colour. Really hope that improvement is soon.

TOK Your mum's story. Just so awful for them, I can't imagine how that must have been. What strong people your parents are.

beepbeep Hope Martha's christening went well. Did she manage to get through the service without crying?

scarlotti At Ioan. Well done that little lad! James has settled down again now, I think it was a spurt. Sleeping 11 - 3, 3.30 - 5, and usually settles for another hour after that. So one HELL of an improvement on a week or so ago.

Right, off for a cup of tea and more family gossip. If I don't get back on the computer before I'm home Happy Mother's Day to all!!!

scarlotti · 11/03/2010 21:24

wook would love to meet for a coffee too if you have time? I can bring me and SirBoob over in the car so you don't have to leave the family for too long

hobnob forgot you asked about interior design - I love all that stuff and am nosey like Venus so would be happy to help

Pav Lol, the first time I used the spray I couldn't work out why nothing was coming out ... and then I realised there was a lid on it

SirBoobAlot · 11/03/2010 21:33

Aww Scarlotti I do love you

DontWorryBaby · 11/03/2010 21:37

Evening all

Ethan has been much better today, he slept from 22:15 last night until I woke him up about 6:15. My boobs had leaked right through the pad, bra and pj top so I was faced with the dilemma of washing the pump & putting the steriliser on then expressing or just waking up the baby. Went with the easier option! It seemed to suit him fine, he had a good feed then woke up around half 8. The saline drops definitely seem to be helping. I didn't bother going for his jags today but hopefully he will be up to it next week.

I could be wrong but I think at one point last night he started to wake up and I didn't bother going to him straight away and we both nodded off again. Will try to remember to do that more often as he is showing that he's able to sleep right through. He might just be stirring and I pick him up too quickly at other times.

I got a card in the post today, a "Happy First Mother's Day" from my future in laws! How lovely is that? Made me smile.

Diet wise, I cut out milk weeks ago. Maybe months. We have had good and bad days with Ethan being sick but about 3/4 good days in a row now so I'm tempted to go back to square one and eat as normal (including milk) but keep a diary and try to properly identify what is upsetting him. I never consulted the health visitor or gp about it and realise now I should've been taking calcium supplements to make up for the milk so would rather present them with something substantial rather than my own guesswork. Pav how are you getting on with no dairy?

My parents are taking Ethan out for a few hours tomorrow so I think I'll do some uni work... that might masquerade as a nice long bath and some mumsnetting in peace but both very worthwhile ways to spend some time!

Hope all the poorly babies are getting better x

hobnob57 · 11/03/2010 21:48

scarlotti and venus the pics are on my profile. We need to brighten up the old room (with the dining table in it) because it's very dark now. There are just too many choices - feature wall over archway in new room? Feature wall in old room at all, if so which one? If so should it be the same colour as the one in the new room or a couple of shades lighter or a contrasting colour.... and so it goes on. Very bored of brown. Want something warmish and calm. The blinds in the new room will be cream. Cushions can be changes. Mexican thing on dining table is only there because we've nowhere else to put it.

scarlotti · 11/03/2010 22:16

hobnob do you want to tie the two rooms together or have them as separate spaces? We have a through lounge/dining room and I put a bold pattern wallpaper in the alcoves in the lounge and the far wall in the dining room. Then picked a lighter neutral-ish colour out of the wallpaper and did all the other walls in that. Cushions and curtains are then in the shade of light blue in the wallpaper. It works well.
If you paper either of the walls with the arch on it, then you'll effectively cut the two rooms in half and make them feel smaller.
If you want a vibrant print wallpaper, then choose a wall with an alcove/window/something to break it up as a full wall could be too much, especially if you're used to plain walls.

hobnob57 · 11/03/2010 22:28

I think we'll stick to just paint and try to keep the space as big as possible. Not good with wallpaper! We've been messing about on the dulux site with the photos and have decided against a feature wall on the archway for the reason you said - it makes the room smaller and it's distracting having 2 colours behind the TV. DH is saying we should forget feature walls and go with one colour in the dining room to brighten it all up. I'm thinking it might be nice to have a darker (but not much darker) tone on the mirrored wall.

hobnob57 · 11/03/2010 22:31

Urgh, the laptop is making me knackered and nauseous. I'm off to bed. This is so reminiscent of this time last year!

wook · 11/03/2010 22:47

Hobnob looks like you have a really nice open space there. Is your sofa brown or black I can't tell? We have brown sofa and chairs and they have quite a heavy effect which is why we always paint everything cream in the end!
Hope you feel better soon.
Would not mind a pregnancy scare just to test the waters of how it would feel to contemplate no. 3 but currently have baby in bed, most unsexy! And actually it would be very, very scary to have a pregnancy scare!!!

Pav I see you came over and joined Butterpie and I in the red corner Mind you, don't know what I was doing on that thread, I can't get remotely excited about the election nationally, and I normally am the sort who would stay up watching the swingometer all night. Quite interesting locally here with a very respectable Green vote for the council though.

Lemontop we took ds camping aged 11 months, it was OK except that he was between crawling and walking and he was perpetually filthy and covered in pine cones and mud. (New Forest campsite). We took him aged 2 and aged 3 to Latitude and that was lovely both times, there was a great children's field where we spent a lot of time, but also ds is a bit of a fan of Nick Cave for some reason (I know, it's bizarre) and he played both years so that was lots of fun. Sometimes the sitting around got a bit dull between bands/ things to do. Eating was OK. We saw a child get lost there and she was immediately dealt with by a huge crowd of well meaning grown ups. Put your mobile number on every limb! We are currently debating whether to do it again this summer but think it's probably a no as my sister is due that week with her ds2 and also it's the weekend of dh's birthday.

Skorpion I loved that sweet man on One Born Every Minute, he was amazing compared to the others. I like the way the programme sets up a situation where people may get all judgey judgey and then confounds all expectations. Cry all the way through it every week!

Boob and Scarlotti very excited by prospect of mini Easter meet up When you lot all met on Monday how long did it take to get over the weirdness of all being real??

Raggie thanks v for book recommendations!

Got a lovely surprise today- dh ordered me a mother's day book from Amazon written by the partner of Edwyn Collins about his brain haemorrhages and recovery. Very touching as that Edwyn Collins song 'Girl Like You' was always playing the summer we met (back in the day- 1995!!) and from what I have read so far the book is a very beautiful book about love.

Venus wooo- you have motivated me to get going even more now!

Ursi you sound as if you are dealing with PILs in a saint like manner.

I think I am developing a bit of a phobia of the school gates- some days the friends I know are not there and I feel as if I am back at school myself, standing in playground all alone. It's very odd.

Must stop droning on, but Happy Mothers' Day to all, it's a very special weekend for us all to feel really, really proud of ourselves and our dcs

Laugs · 12/03/2010 08:06

Ooh Wook you are making me very tempted to try a proper festival with the DCs. DD would be 3.5... is this crazy? DH has mentioned going to Glasto with his mates again. I said it was ok ages ago but now feel a bit huffy about it. I don't actually mind, I just wonder when I am ever going to get a break.

DH has to work over-time tomorrow. Bah. At least he's off on Sunday.

Skorpion I don't want to tempt fate as I did last time, but all is well.

Ninjacat · 12/03/2010 09:08

I will catch up in a bit but just wanted to say DC's and I are going to camp Bestival if anyone is mad brave enough to join us?

lemontop · 12/03/2010 09:32

Morning! It's actually Latitude festival we are considering. DH went there last year on his stag do and thought it looked very family friendly. I'm tempted but just a bit nervous but pavlov wook and ninja you are persuading me! I guess he'd be on some solids by then so wouldn't need so many milk feeds. I found out you can get disposable sterile bottles as well, which while being probably very bad for environment may be a good last resort. I'm also not sure how sleeping situation would work? hmm lots to think about.

On other matters Isaac is now refusing to sleep in his cot and is back in our bed! It's strange cos he's been in his cot in his own room for over a month but just won't settle anymore. We're just going along with it for the moment but watching that 6yr old girl on supernanny who was still refusing to sleep in her own bed worried us a little! He also wakes up about 9pm full of beans so we've been bringing him downstairs for an hour. I think he's teething which could be unsettling him but I've given up trying to fathom out his sleep now. It follows no logic!

skorpion · 12/03/2010 09:39

Oooh, love all this talk about festivals! I remember one summer ages ago WOMAD was our only 'going away' holiday that year. When it was still in Reading, loved it.

laugs you're right, let's not tempt the fate (but great to hear, shh... ) I don't think I asked you about you DH's exam results - I trust all is fine?

wook I cry watching that, too.

Well, I read about this on here and experienced it this morning for myself. Megapoo is a very adequate term, thanks hobnob. Was very close to cutting Lucy out of her clothes... I mean elbows covered in it.

DWB that sounds like a perfect student's life . Enjoy!

skorpion · 12/03/2010 10:09

Have you all received the £250 Child Trust Fund dosh? How long did you have wait? I applied ages ago (January), got the birth cert back but still no cheque...
