Evening all,
we've had a really busy weekend here with DS2s 4th birthday. Party yesterday at soft play place - which we had nearly to ourselves as it was so sunny, so that was good - though I have just found the 18 packets of mini raisins which should have been the token healthy bit of the party bags - oops!
then today, his actual birthday, we had family round for birthday tea, so pretty tired all round now. DH watching the golf so no brain cells required this evening.
HMM, glad you're going back to work has gone so well. i enjoy my job too and often think I wish i could do more than my 2 days, but then I do like being at home the rest of the week...
CSWS, have good break.
waves to everyone else!
I have my wrist consultant appt tomorrow so may get another steroid injection but then, the last one worked really well for nearly 5 months.

CantSleepWontSleep · 11/04/2010 21:03

It was fabulous myjob, and actually ideal for a rainy day (although today wasn't, obv!). You get a voucher to go back any time in next year for £6 each (was £11 today), so we might even go back later in the week, esp if there is a miserable weather day. Ds went on his first roller coaster, down the big bumpy slides, his first dodgem car ride, and played in sand pits, on ride on tractors, and loads of other stuff! The farm near us costs more than that to get into and doesn't have half as much stuff.

Thought I wasn't going to be able to upload any photos yet, as just put them on my mac, but dh hadn't been able to get my mac to work with the wifi here. However, he has just announced that he's in, so I might be able to upload some shortly.

Ouch for all the injuries.

Sounds so fun, csws! Can't wait to see the pics

pepper - happy birthday to your ds!
we went to a new softplay near us today, too and were one of 4 families as it was so nice out. It looked overcast, so I brought Q but at least I know it's there for another day.

lol about the teenager, myjob!

CantSleepWontSleep · 11/04/2010 21:51

Hmmmm, I've uploaded some pics but it says that my album is empty, despite showing me one of the pics from it . Hopefully it's just churning something in the background, as I don't want to have to tag and caption them again!
Will do some videos another night. I need bed very soon - ds fell out of bed at 6:15 this morning and that was the start of our day, with me having only just got back to sleep after being awake since 4:55 (toilet trip then insomnia, not helped by toilet being on diff floor to bedroom, so I have to wake up properly to go!).

We have some pigs to feed at 9:30 tomorrow morning, and then no doubt another swim if we can put dd off til then. This morning we went swimming at 8:15am.

Hey all! Pops said "no" and "sticker" for the first time today. Altho she has regressed in other ways... she's currently calling me "Dada" She's definitely getting closer to DH since I've returned to work, altho we've had two girls days out together this weekend as DH has been preparing for an Ofsted visit.

Where exactly are you CSWS? Sounds like you're having fun

Aubergenie, made me laugh re pedicure

Poppy is starting to get quite stroppy, the "terrible two's" are definitely kicking in early here, she stamps her feet and screams and arches her back when she doesn't get her own way. She's constantly kicking off when she needs her nappy changing. She's also taken to throwing things, often plates off her booster chair What are you all doing re discipline? She loves to sit at the bottom of the stairs and I don't want to alienate her to the cot. At the moment we're ignoring her for 1 minute, altho obviously that only works in her high chair.

I'm completely knackered after two days out with Pops anyway, so I'm off to bed.

Would anyone be up for a trip to Horton Farm Park? We would probably find a campsite nearby if anyone fancies that too... [looks expectantly at CSWS/ 50ft]

Honeymoonmummy · 11/04/2010 23:09

Oh I knew there was something I forgot to tell you! We went to the park this afternoon to feed the ducks, just Pops and I, and the ducks were not interested so I tried to do a really big underarm throw... unfortunately Pops was in the way and I ended up clouting her on the back of her head!!!!! I was mortified!! Thank god noone else was there! i've got a bruise on the side of my hand where it impacted and everything!!! Can't help but giggle about it tho, i'm such a bad person but I find anything like that hilarious.

50ftQueenie · 12/04/2010 08:00

Hee hee Hmm. Camping? Moi? Don't you know who I am? I don't think I've clouted M yet, but I certainly knocked DS down a few stairs when he was about this age. Discipline.... Martha's naughtiness tends to be hitting me when she's on my lap, so when she does it, she gets put down on the floor and ignored for about a minute, then picked up again if that's what she wants. It worked with DS and his biting and seems to be working with M too!

CSWS - I noticed that too about your photos! I also noticed a very grown-up looking boy in one of the pictures (not Mr CSWS). Glad you're having fun! You're a braver woman than I. I doubt I could have gone on holiday and enjoyed it when I was in the last trimester with M!!

Myjob - I know exactly what you mean about the teenager only M isn't too bad.... DS on the other hand....... He slams doors and says "It's so unfair" and everything! Wasn't ready for this yet!

Pepper - Good luck today with your extra bendy joints! Glad you had a good time with DS's party! Don't worry about the token healthy bit. DS usually just leaves the raisins away and then end up all over the car floor as the rest gets scoffed on the way home.

Aubergenie - They're so kind to us aren't they? It doesn't get any better as they get older either. DS begged me not to go to a family wedding when I was hugely pregnant as he thought everyone would laugh at me! Cheers little man!

CantSleepWontSleep · 12/04/2010 08:35

Have re-uploaded the pics this morning, and they seem to have worked this time.

hmm - we're here.

OP posts:
StarExpat · 12/04/2010 09:28

HMM - Horton park is seriously 10 minutes from my house. It's soooo close to us. We can go absolutely anytime. Even if I forget something, I can just go home, get it and return with it since it's so nearby!

But no camping. You can squeeze yourselves into our 1 bed flat if you want to, but don't think you'd be very cozy!!

Off to see csws' pics
Then a day at the dreaded.... Ikea... ugh.

lol 50ft about ds thinking everyone would laugh at you!!! Kids!

Glad you're having so much fun, csws

KSal · 12/04/2010 11:21

HMM, emma has her moments of total stroppiness too and i try to ignore her... although sometimes i can't help but laugh.

the 'bad' thing she does is pinch my face and say 'ouch' when we are getting ready for bed (i.e. when she is on my lap). I think I will try putting her on the floor as ignoring her while she's on my lap pinching doesn't really work. If i say 'nice' she will stroke my face... but its a bit of a game now.

Emma did something so cute this morning. She has started saying 'bless you' when people sneeze, which is sweet. This morning, i was lying in bed listening to her moving around on the monitor (it was too early to be up yet) and i sneezed... she must have heard me as over the monitor i heard her say 'bless you mummy'

CantSleepWontSleep · 12/04/2010 16:18

Now of course my pics appear to be there twice . Am just uploading a bit of video from yesterday too.
Been to feed the pigs, and done some swimming, then a play on the beach this afternoon. Ds wouldn't go to sleep in his pushchair on the beach though, so we came back earlier than planned. Need him to nap as we had a terrible night with him last night (I only managed 1 two hour stretch of sleep, and the rest was in smaller bits) so don't want him to be overtired at bedtime.
Have promised dd that I'll go and sit with her whilst she has another swim in a couple of mins, so better dash. Back later!

OP posts:
StarExpat · 12/04/2010 20:09

Ksal can we have a playdate with the ulterior motive on my part that Emma teach Q everything she knows, please? Including moving around in her cot, awake and not shouting to get out when it is too early to be up yet.

He was up at 4am this morning. We discovered a horrible, horrible nappy rash. Poor baby is having really acidic poos and a terrible rash. Probably more teeth coming as his cheeks are bright red, drool and snot coming, too but he's not otherwise unwell, iyswim.

He went back to sleep after I changed his nappy (really, really odd for him to poo in his sleep but it was really runny and weird smelling/looking, so must be teeth or other odd ailment)... but would ONLY sleep ON me if I was sitting up - so I tried to lay my head back on the sofa... but he didn't like when my cheek wasn't right on his head... so I basically sat in this really awkward position for 2 more hours in the living room in the dark just so he could get more sleep. Every time I would nod off and my head would move, he would stir. The things we do for our children...

Successful trip to IKEA and got great stuff . Our living room finally looks nice now and we have a table and chairs to eat our meals and everything looks nice now... we can put it on the market in a few days once dh does final bits of paint touch ups and the sealant around the kitchen worktop under the tiles. YAY! And a big deep clean, of course!

Honeymoonmummy · 12/04/2010 21:36

Awww Ksal, that's so cute!

I remember the place now CSWS.

Pops is just a grotbag, esp when she's tired. She wouldn't care if we put her down and ignored her for a minute because that's usually what she wants I'll have a look at old threads maybe...

C'mon then people, who's up for Horton Park then and when? Sometime in May?

StarExpat · 12/04/2010 21:43
Honeymoonmummy · 12/04/2010 22:16

Sorry Star, I meant to say "other than Star"!!

Just been away to look at other threads re discipline, not found anything yet...

Knickers0nMyHead · 13/04/2010 00:33

Hello all.

StarExpat · 13/04/2010 08:11

Hello Knickers, how are you, woman of many words?

did I hear my name? it's ok HMM.
Re: Discipline I just do what feels right for now. I'm a teacher, and have taught and been to workshops on this subject in many different countries, so I sort of take from that stuff at times. Not sure if any of it is "right" or not.
Ignoring undesired behaviour is something I do a lot. A child will feed off of any attention given to a behaviour if s/he is looking for a response. I have a really hard time doing this in public or when with friends . Working hard on it!

Q has been flailing about, resulting in hitting lately. Over the past few days, I've been holding him on my lap in a big hug with his arms down at his sides until he calms down. Then I speak to him calmly and show him the nice way to touch people...etc. It really works.

When he throws a tantrum or other suchlike I just ignore him and only give him my attention when he has stopped and approaches me nicely.

KSal · 13/04/2010 09:42

star - she's not always that good, really! I just couldn't help telling you such a cute story - it buoyed me up all day!

DH has been away for nearly a week and i am totally knackered - can't wait for him to get back tomorrow.

StarExpat · 13/04/2010 10:10

It is very cute! Keep telling them - now that I've met her, I can imagine her doing / saying those things and it is quite sweet

I think life is more exhausting with DH around. Even when things are happy and lovely between us... he just has so much energy and we're always needing to be doing something.

Knickers0nMyHead · 13/04/2010 13:25

Great thanks, you?

Anyone had any more babies yet?

CantSleepWontSleep · 13/04/2010 14:35

Give me another 11 weeks knickers!

Yay for house nearly being finished star.

Lovely day today - only came back from beach already because ds got all grizzly and in need of a nap.

Will look up how far to Horton Park Farm and fit in if we can in May. Presume we're talking about a weekend? Or is there a half term in May?
