Hi all, Happy Easter, I'm going to give it a miss on Thurs, I didnt ask DH in the end but a big new job is starting at work on Tues and I'm on it.

Thanks for advice re Pops and milk. She has a cup of milk first thing, mid morning, mid-afternoon and last thing (altho at the moment, I'm back to BF last thing till the meds kick in). WHich shoud I cut down and should I replace with water or what?

Honeymoonmummy · 04/04/2010 22:36

Ooh and has anyone got a satnav that isn't a tomtom? Can you get extra map info on other brands? Like nearby cashpoints, supermarkets etc etc?

Honeymoonmummy · 04/04/2010 23:11

Or can you use an iphone as an in-car sat nav? I'm thinking of getting one so if I can avoid buying a new sat nav all the better. I see from the website it says it has GPS so you can get directions etc but is it as good as a sat nav?

StarExpat · 05/04/2010 02:13

hmm the blackberry has sat nav on it. I'm using that now.

Q woke at midnight. Clutching his nappy crying and looking very much in pain. Darkish discharge. OOH dr said bring to AE, so... ugh, they said just bathe him 3-4 times per day and wiggle his foreskin in the tub And that his foreskin is very tight so in a few years he may need a circumsicion (sp I know it's late!) SO because I had asked for this at birth (being american) and was told a firm "no".

He's still WIDE awake... requesting toast from DH... he's on his second slice... had nurofen just now so should be on the mend shortly. Dr said if it gets worse, get seen in the morning... lovely. Poor guy is squatting every few min and looking in pain

CantSleepWontSleep · 05/04/2010 08:38

Poor Q .

Dh reckons that you can buy a kit for the i-phone to make it a turn by turn sat nav (didn't used to do this apparently), but he doesn't know if it's as good as a dedicated sat nav or not.

What's wrong with the Tom Tom?

pepperrabbit · 05/04/2010 09:35

star - you must be exhausted this morning. Did they suggest bathing in salt water? That's my great standby for vague infections like willies and eyes!
They said that about DS2 but he's had no problems since and that's probably 12 months ago now.
I think you'd have to go private to get a circumcism at birth or voluntarily now. It's not considered necessary here except for medical reasons or I suspose some religions?

Star - Poor Q. Thank goodness you've all got the day off today.

HMM - Dp says you can buy various sat-nav kits for the Iphone. Not particularly cheap (Tom Tom around £60, I think) but cheaper than a new sat nav.

I am now an Iphone widow. Dp got one recently and I have to admit it's lovely but he's never off the bloody thing.

StarExpat · 05/04/2010 11:15

We had an appt with out of hours doc this morning first thing as his poor willy had gotten even bigger and more red. He now has flux.... whatever it's called antibiotic. It tastes horrible and Q is not impressed.
The discharge is beige and sometimes grey.

HMM what don't you like about tom toms?

Yes, if you have a baby in america, he is generally circumcized unless you say not to... what friends who have given birth recently have said... boys, not girls of course.

Honeymoonmummy · 05/04/2010 12:06

Flucloxacillin Star?

It's not that I dislike Tom Toms but I was looking on Which? and another brand, Garmin, seems to feature a lot in the "Best buys" and is cheaper than the Tom Tom. The Amazon reviews are good too. The only thing I'm not sure if it does is whether you can download the same stuff as you can with TomTom; for example, we downloaded a list of campsites.

I've used the GPS on the blackberry and found it really basic. Can't use that permanently. I think I'm gonna go for the Garmin.

Honeymoonmummy · 05/04/2010 12:21

Sorry Star I meant to say, how awful for poor Q

I measured Pops yesterday, she's 85cm now, that makes her in the 98th centile. Not surprising really. But she still has problems with trousers being too tight round the waist and too long in the leg - bizarre.

oh that makes sense I thought physical therapy and thought how amazing you could do that yourself!! Hmmm, I could Potty Train him - that might help. They did say a lot of it had to do with being in a nappy... he does show a lot of "awareness" but then sometimes not at all and I'm just not sure he's ready. How did you do it?

CantSleepWontSleep · 05/04/2010 19:47

I didn't like the one garmin that I've seen, but it was a few years ago now, so I suppose that they might be better.
I have to get used to the new built in one in the land rover now, which is quite diff to the built in one in the merc which is quite diff to the tom tom .

Washing machine is fusing the electrics again, 3 days after it started working again.

I had a cheap-o navman. ANd it was stolen. I liked it. It told me where petrol stations and places to eat were, redirected me quickly when I often sometimes took wrong turns, gave me lot of route choices...etc. Was good enough for me... and now it's good enough for someone else who stole it

How annoying about the washing machine, csws! I would not be coping as well as you are. I know a washing machine repair guy that comes from London... he will also swap out yours for one he's fixed up if you want... dodgy I know, but we did this when ours broke... he brought in a "new" one that he had repaired and it works beautifully!! And he took our old broken one away for us... all for a very, very small price. He wins because he can sell our old one once he fixes it up, too... would have been a nightmare to dispose of.

CantSleepWontSleep · 05/04/2010 20:01

Thanks star, but we want to keep this one. The guy who came out on Thurs/Fri said that it's the last of the really good models from this manufacturer, and reckoned it was in very good nick. There's just water leaking from somewhere inside it that he reckons is dripping on the motor and thus fusing everything. If it is still not working in the morning (may have dried itself out by then) then we'll call him back, as he'd like to work out where it's coming from too! I'll be in much more of a panic if we can't get it working by the end of tomorrow!

aubergenie · 06/04/2010 14:04

How is Q's willy today? (or his "wee wee" as S calls his.)

I hope your washing machine is working again now CSWS - I'd have a break down if ours wasn't working and that's with just us three!

It's quiet on here today! Is everyone out enjoying the sunshine? We had a lovely time in the park and I've now busy dealing with various tradesmen to try and get our flat in some sort of order for moving. Unfortunately I've discovered that some of the wiring to our lights is vulcanised rubber dating from the 1930s (eek!) and will obviously need to be redone, requiring ceilings to come down. Plus all our new(ish) kitchen flooring has to come up again so they can sort out the mess that is the wiring there. Whoever did the conversion to this building should be shot!

CantSleepWontSleep · 06/04/2010 14:31

No it's still not working today aubergenie, and the guy can't come to look at it until tomorrow night . An extra shame because it's been nice enough weather to have dried clothes on the line today.

Eek for your wiring and ensuing building work aubergenie.

Hello everyone - sorry I have not been on here for ages. I didn't want to post too much when I was leaving XP and then just getting to grips with everything, was out of the habit of checking the thread... sorry, I know it has been months! How is everyone?

myjob I saw some pictures you posted on facebook - I can't believe how grown up Naomi is looking.

Star if you are thinking of starting potty training you might find it helpful to look through some stuff on Elimination Communication - I did this a bit with Ryan when he was tiny, but to be honest never was very good at reading his signals! It has some really good tips though for starting before the more traditional signs of "readiness" without stressing out your child or pushing them into anything they aren't ready for. Most websites or books about EC have a section on children over a year as well.

CSWS My mum's washing machine has broken down this week as well - she has had a hell of a time trying to get a new one from Curry's.

Ryan is running everywhere now - it took him until 16 months to walk, despite cruising at 8 months! His vocabulary has suddenly exploded over the last few days as well. His new favourite word is "stuck" which is really cute I am loving this age, I wish I could keep him this way forever!
