Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
50ftQueenie · 16/03/2010 12:36

Hello! I haven't been around lately because M has been trying to drop her nap! Cheeky minx! I'm not giving up my time that easily so I have been resisting this change for the time being. And I have been knitting lots in the evening....

I haven't had time to catch up yet but Star, don't worry about the speech thing. As you've already said children are all different. DS was taking in sentences by 14 months so M is WAY behind him. But they are soooo different. M is affectionate and needy while DS was detached & content to be on his own. Up until 12 months as parents we didn't do anything different (DS went to nursery at 12 months). I know it is SO hard to ignore those developmental chart things (I was obsessed when DS was young and would panic if he wasn't at least 2 months ahead. How ridiculous!). I can honestly say that I haven't even looked at one since M was 8 months so I have no idea if she is ahead, behind or spot on! I don't know about the headaches, but losing colour is a new one on me! Migraines can cause all sorts of different vision disturbances so it might just be a different experience to any you've had previously. I had migraines as a teenager and they often caused different vision problems.

Camping - urgh! Never, ever, ever. I would rather eat my own head. CSWS and I will be in the luxury suite getting room service and booking our spa treatments.

Ekka - Is M ok with strawberries, pears and melon? I ask because DH is allergic to kiwis and these other fruits. Poor M, hope that's the last allergy to discover.

Pistachio - I am totally fed-up with the NCT at the moment! The application procedure changed in Oct 09 so I am trying to get some sensible information from them but they keep just sending me the same info over and over again! It's so frustrating! A lesser woman would have given up by now!

Since I last spoke to you all I have been to DS's parent's evening, taken M trampolining and got my total weight loss up to 2st 10lbs! The parent's evening was fabulous! DS is in the top group for the year and if he carries on doing as well as he has been he'll be off to grammar school eventually! He is achieving a level 3 something (I know NOTHING about keystage stuff ) which I think is good for the baby of a year 2 class. Yay DS!

Trampolining was a resounding failure! M enjoyed actually being on the trampoline and was more confident than some of the older children, however the concept of turn taking seems to be a new one to her. I'll take her back when she's older.....

BOO!!!!

Off to catch up!

50ftQueenie · 16/03/2010 15:19

Ooooo! Back in one piece Ronshar? Have fun?

StarExpat · 16/03/2010 15:25

Yay! Ronshar's back. Please tell me losing colour from my sight doesn't mean I'm going blind. And it's not a migraine.

50ftQueenie · 16/03/2010 15:31
ronshar · 16/03/2010 16:44

Only up to last Weds. Off to school. Back later if I can.

I have one thing so far.
Myjob you do not eat enough. Your body probably thinks you live in a famine zone.

Off I run

Have you missed me??

I tried to post this earlier but internet playing around.

StarExpat · 16/03/2010 19:25

50ft somehow I missed your post!!! I must have been overly excited about ronshar's return... she's been gone for a LONG time. I've been in touch with you here and on fb

Just read your post...
YAY for DS!! He's gorgeous and clever! Q is going to have to get by on looks alone.
No, it's not from migraines, I knew someone would suggest that as the GP suggested it, too... but I've lived with migraines for years and years and it's just different. totally different. Thank you, though for the thought

And I'll join you in the spa 50ft and csws.

pepperrabbit · 16/03/2010 19:32

star - you don't actually have to hve a headache to have a migraine. I get atypical migraines which give me the flashing lights/confused speech (hilarious to others) but no headache... I did once lose focus in just one eye for 24 hours, that was terrifying disconcerting and led to the tests that diagnosed the atypical migraine.

StarExpat · 16/03/2010 19:33

oh, and from what I've experienced in my 4 years in the UK... your NCT application process seems just like everything else I've had to sign up for or apply for here. So frustrating!!
I was so at the amount of time it took to set up a bank account and internet banking and phone banking involved putting something in the post I'm so horrid at posting stuff and I was used to living in America where we could sign up for stuff like that easily online. And waiting weeks for internet hook up when you move (and tv, phone...etc) I'm sure I'll think of more examples. I just thought I had stepped back in time about 10 years. Things are getting easier now, though.

Oh, when my bag was stolen (the 1st time) someone spent 900 pounds from my UK card and 1200USD on my american debit card (I only hold that account to pay our student loans monthly with a transfer from my uk account... so this caused those payments to be returned... a mess) Anyway, I went online and sorted my american account in 10 minutes. They put the money back in for me and sent me a form electronically to fill out explaining what had happened and I had to ring them up and tell them the time and date it was stolen...etc. They said they would investigate. If it turned out that I was lying and had spent that money, they would take it back or bill me. That was good. Student loans got paid. My UK account.... well, I rang them, told them it was stolen. They said the money would be back in my account within 3-6 weeks! . meanwhile I needed to pay bills and eat. ugh! I had to then get a form posted to me, fill it out, sign it, return it by post, go to the police station and file a report...etc. blah! I love so many things about hte UK more than the US but sorting out paperwork and crap like that is definitely not one of them.

StarExpat · 16/03/2010 19:37

Interesting pepper... I'll look into that. I do normally get slurred speech when a migraine is imminent. This pounding/pulsating is actually behind my eyes. My migraines usually are on one side of my head and start in a certain spot. I take imigran for those. I suppose this could be another type of migraine. But it's gone on for 4 days now... with only short breaks in pain.

pepperrabbit · 16/03/2010 19:40

have you tried the imigram this time? Sorry i hadn't realised it was still going on - has the colour come back or is that coming and going as well?
Is it worth going to see the private GP you took Q to, as he/she seemed pretty good.
Or going back for a second opinion?

StarExpat · 16/03/2010 19:45

The colour was just gone for a couple hours yesterday morning. It hasn't gone since. It was the weirdest thing ever. Going back for a second opinion is a good idea. I wish they'd just refer me to an eye doctor just to be sure. I did try imigran. It didn't work. It's pounding behind my eyes and a bit on lower forehead.
I'm such a whingy ridiculous mummy lately!

50ftQueenie · 16/03/2010 20:08

Star - I used to get the weird vision thing about three hours before the actual head ache hit me. Sometimes I could stop the head ache part if I had a sleep. Do you want me to google for you? Under no circumstances do it yourself as you will end up convinced you've got a brain tumour or something.... I am objective so might be able to find something sensible.... I am amazed it took so long to get your money back! My Dad had his card details used for purchases and got his money back the next day. Sounds a bit fishy to me, unless they're more used to dealing with card fraud these days....

StarExpat · 16/03/2010 20:18

probably that was 4 years ago. Credit cards taht were used were refunded immediately. Debit card took ages. Thanks 50ft I don't want you to have to google for me. You'll probably just find brain tumor, too. I didn't even think of that before! Now that makes sense...
I've had aura and blurred vision with migraines but never lost colour. It was positively surreal.

50ftQueenie · 16/03/2010 20:43

Oh STAR!!!! It's not that!

50ftQueenie · 16/03/2010 21:57

Tumty tumty tum

ronshar · 16/03/2010 22:36

Star sorry love I know nothing really constructive about migrane/headaches/vision disturbance. I would press very strongly for a neurological referal from your GP. I would also agree with you waiting until Easter hols and going back to hard mummy and putting Q back to bed! Sorry. Not what you want to hear, I'm sure, at the moment.

50ft sounds like you need a holiday. Your DS is a very bright young thing. We had G open evening yesterday and she is top stage 5 which is level of year 6/7. She is year 5. Proud mummy & daddy. H next week probably not so proud M&D

CSWS can I join you & 50ft at the spa while every one else is camping, please?

StarExpat · 17/03/2010 08:58

This must be the clever kids thread. We need more meet ups so I can let Q be around your older DC and hopefully some of the intelligence with rub off.

Q was up sooooooooooooo much last night. W T F ???

Thanks, Ronshar But, neurological? Not just opthamologist? Do you think it's a tumor?
I had an MRI and saw a neurologist about 9 years ago when I first had migraines and all was fine...

ronshar · 17/03/2010 11:16

No I do not think you have a tumor!!! But when my knee hurts I see an Orthopedic doctor, when my sinus problems are bad I see an ENT doctor. When your head is giving you trouble you see a neurologist!

Ekka so do you think that is it on the allergy front? Not much left for poor M.

Myjob. We are all in one piece but all shattered!

StarExpat · 17/03/2010 19:48

Anyone want to play with Q and I over easter holidays? I'm going to see myjob one of the days I NEED dh to finish the house and I'd love to see you all again

CantSleepWontSleep · 17/03/2010 19:55

Is that as long as the brain tumour doesn't get you first star ?
When are you off/free?

OP posts:
StarExpat · 17/03/2010 20:00

Same as british schools this time
Yes, if the tumor eats my whole head then I won't be available.

CantSleepWontSleep · 17/03/2010 20:17

Ah, but which British schools? Dd has the longest holiday ever - she breaks up this Friday and doesn't go back til 21st April!
