TS DP bit his own finger the other day... he's still not quite sure how he managed it but he had a mark for days after!

GreenGardenia · 18/03/2010 14:43

Oh dear we have spent the last 36 hours in a violent vomiting seizure (sorry if that's too revolting for you) me and DP both and we haven't even seen each other that much this week let alone shared meals so I don't know what we got it from. It's been absolutely vile though his () was worse than mine... Anyway today we are all shaky knees and wobbly hands and toast and water. Luckily yesterday was a bank hol being St P Day here, but today back to normal. ds1 was a complete SAINT and entertained ds2 all day, went to the shop for supplies, sorted the dogs, and generally saved the day, while ds2 chose yesterday to be an ANGEL and slept for about 3 hours during the day which he never does, and went to bed at 7pm as if exhausted. God, the misery.

Anyway - Miamla what do you still need help on? Longway I love the WD40 poem, that was in the 10 Poems about Love that I got dp for Val's Day, I'd not seen it before. I also love Kahlil Gibran though I know lots go for him. There's a lovely Brendan Kennelly poem I heard at a wedding recently - Lentil you might know it? love poem - that's not much help, is it? And I love the Shakespeare sonnet about love is not love which alters when it alteration finds, etc - I know that's a popular one too though, maybe you want something more rare.

GreenGardenia · 18/03/2010 14:45

Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose Worth's unknown, although his height be taken.

Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come;
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom:
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.

I know it's not the most original choice du monde but I think it's fab. Maybe trop formal?

GreenGardenia · 18/03/2010 14:47

Apache Benediction

Now you will feel no rain,
For each of you will be shelter to the other.
Now you will feel no cold,
For each of you will be warmth to the other.
Now there is no more loneliness for you.
For each of you will be companion to the other.
Now you are two bodies,
But there is only one Life before you.
Go now to your dwelling place,
To enter into the days of your togetherness.
And may your days be good and long upon the earth

sobs

Miamla · 18/03/2010 14:49

ooh VG...that one I like!

sorry to hear you've been so poorly but i'm not surprised DP had it worse!

GladioliBuckets · 18/03/2010 14:50

LOL yeah we got that response a bit! The romantic bit was having Eva Cassidy sing Songbird during the register signing, the lyrics of which just say everything I think.

VG How horrid for you and hurray for DS1, what a little gent he is.

GreenGardenia · 18/03/2010 14:50

erm no, i can categorically confirm that i will never like anyone's snoring!

GreenGardenia · 18/03/2010 14:54

Miamla the one you posted I like the sentiments but I think given the occasion you could go for something that sounds more beautiful iyswim.

"It is establishing a relationship in which the independence is equal,
dependence is mutual and the obligation is reciprocal."

To me sounds a bit more like a business plan!!

Miamla · 18/03/2010 15:10

hmm, i guess! maybe i'll just re-write the bits i don't like!

GreenGardenia · 18/03/2010 15:11

Rewriting to your own spec would be lovely actually.

luckoftheirish · 18/03/2010 15:26

wedding verses all sound lovely to me but i am a soppy girl at the best of times ..

poor poor you gg hopefully and dp are on the mend and your ds1 sounds as wonderful as always..

big hugs ts sound like you really are in the house of gloom atm.. glad af has finally made an appearance.. could you please send her over here?? horrible cramps now for over a week and 6 days late.. where on earth can she be??? wails

GladioliBuckets · 18/03/2010 15:53

Sorry Miamla, I too thought it was a little like the declaration of aims and objectives of a town council.

TwilightSurfer · 18/03/2010 16:13

Lucky I recounted this morning...today was day 38 so a full 8+ late. I knew she was coming by around 1am. Not in a good place yet but relief is eminent now.

Miamla I was trying to find my vows but no luck yet. Something about not stepping on each others blue suede shoes and forever being each others teddy bears. Will keep searching.

Reese barfed again. She's actually getting quite good at it. Both girls just woffed down some taco meat. Twas what the wanted. At least it gives them something to upchuck. DD1 has been ick free for hours now. She may be on the mend. I HOPE!

Off to wash more stuff. I hate washing. I hate washing puke most.

VG, I had the office next to Brendan at Trinity - I have a huge hunk of bog oak he gave me in clear view from the computer, and you've just given me huge fun reading the dedications he wrote in the books he gave me every week. 'To S who like's laughing.' . He is the only man who has ever told me I have great legs. Will flick through again later to see if I can find the poem you mention.

His favourite love poem is or was Carol Ann Duffy's 'Warming her Pearls.' (random fact ...)

My favourite poem about love is Eavan Boland's 'Love' and I quoted Heaney's phrase, 'it felt remembered even then,' in the speech I made at my wedding.

Let me think on't.

TwilightSurfer · 18/03/2010 17:45

VG I'm making some sick people food. You need anything? Be happy to help you out ya know.

Red not a clue who ya'll are talking about but impressed all the same.

GreenGardenia · 18/03/2010 18:11

Ah, great stories Redser! What fun to have been neighbours. He told me once I was a witch who bewitched but I think 'twas something else talking as I wasn't being very bewitching!

TS Brendan Kennelly is a great Irish poet . And yes please to the sick people food, so long as it's toast!

Miamla there's a thread on readings

alittlebitshy · 18/03/2010 18:14

miamla have you found a choir now? something i was worrying about which i am sure there is no need to but... what sort of stuff does the choir sing? you know you can't have anything hymny/churchy AT ALL at a civil ceremony

Miamla · 18/03/2010 18:35

red how lovely to see you here... I have a question for you... what does freart mean? its apparently an Irish term (VG keep quiet!)

thanks for the links girls... off to have a look now

and albs i have a wonderful man who knows every choir in bristol who's certain he'll find something for us and yes, he knows we can't have any mention of Him upstairs!

dizzydixies · 18/03/2010 18:55

evening all, am pooped

back on line (yipee) and off shift till Wed (double yipee)

miamla - we had christmas decorations (bought from ebay) as favours but I fear thats a tad out of season for you!! worked well though as everyone puts them on their tree year after year to remind them

what about wee pots with raffia tied round them and a planted seed to grow? you could have a wee sign with place name on one side and your and DPs name and date on the other?

we had a lovely celtic blessing at ours, similar to the apache one but more relelvant to us iyswim

sorry to hear about all the sickly babies/grown ups will possibly be back later but tbh haven't seen dh in a few days (ships that pass etc) and I'm a tad sore from the physio so may have a night off
