yeah the class was fun: jive, salsa, cha cha steps. was good fun and only 5 people in the class!

as i suspected, after saying charlie's sleeping was getting better, he woke: 7-11-2-6. i am never talking about his sleeping again...

dh is not cut out for night feedings. he just isn't very good at getting up in the night. like ruby's dh he gets up with ds1 in the morning and on the weekends i get to lie in bed with charlie napping whilst he takes ds1 out swimming etc. i don't mind the night wakings so much. also charlie won't take a bottle so there's not a lot he can do anyway.

3 weeks until weaning, am tempted to go and buy baby rice etc but i will wait so i don't get tempted to mix it up when charlie is having a mammoth feeding session.

hc - i think it is quite common for babies to plateau (sp?) at this point so don't worry.

cf - how's the feeding frenzy? i have found the growth spurt feeding has gotten shorter (in days) as charlie has gotten older.

have a great day everyone x

fidelma · 04/03/2010 08:12

I feel bad about weanning, connor is on 3 meals a day!!!!! he loves it !

wibblydibs · 04/03/2010 13:15

Fidelma thanks, I might just pop in for cake next time we're passing! Don't feel bad about weaning...I tried Louis last week and he just wasn't interested - I was very disappointed! I'll try again next week - think he'll be 23 weeks next Tuesday so he should be ok.

Devils glad the class was good, I used to do salsa - much more fun than going to the gym.

Well, we had another night of 2 hourly wake up calls from the boy...I'm tired, grumpy and the girls are driving me crazy - luckily the sun shining so we're all off out for afternoon.

HappyTangerine · 04/03/2010 14:28

I've been looking at the facebook page, lovely new photos. Have added one of Joseph.

Fairly unsettled night here, seems to be part of the course at the moment. I have to sat DH is brilliant and will rock Joseph back to sleep inj the middle of the night-all those years of night shifts in past jobs have been good practice. God bless the hairdryer is all I can say, it really seems to help Joseph settle.

Can I ask a quick question about veins? Joseph has 2 quite prominent blueish ones on his forehead and you can vaguely see the others in his head. Is it because he's so fair and if so, when do they become less prominent? He's not got a huge amount of hair yet either so I think that makes them stand out more.It is a constant battle to stop his waving hnds from whacking himself in the face, how do you all deal with that?

HC glad you have a HV who is being lovely about the weight, it makes all the difference doesn't it?

devils Class sounds like it was great fun!

fidelma Joseph had a littl bit of banana today. Not planned, more the "that looks interesting lets grab it and shove it all over my face" school of weaning

Calypso We've got issues with distraction feeding here too and am also having to feed in silence with blanks wall.I found a good description and some hints on kelly mom here www.kellymom.com/babyconcerns/distractible-baby.html

We've already been for a nice long walk but am going back out now, it's such a beautiful day. Finally feels like spring!

devilsadvocaat · 04/03/2010 14:34

ht - charlie has a little vein that shows on the bridge of his nose sometimes. my friend's little ds was veeeery fair and you could see veins on his head until he got hair which wasn't until he was older, near toddlerdom. don't worry about it.

i give charlie a bedtime blankie soother to play with whilst he feeds at night oherwise he scratches his fac and my boobs with his hands.

HappyTangerine · 04/03/2010 15:19

Thanks devils, thats a huge help. He's definately following his dad in the hair department-when I was born I apparently had masses of hair on my head and loads of hair running all down my back!

CalypsoFramboise · 04/03/2010 20:08

Had a long day - baby massage, long walk, Chris Ofili exhibition at Tate Britain then more feeding

As I was dreading expecting, that feeding frenzy didn't really lead anywhere; Annalise put on 50g (less than 2oz) in the last 2 weeks, seems like many of us here are having similar experiences - we can't all be having weight-challenged babies? Stupid weight growth charts, if it wasn't for them I'm sure we'd just trust our guts are say are LO are doing just fine. Oh and Annalise rolled twice from front to back at the massage class

devils Greece is for Archaeological work, was an archaeologist in past life, now doing a PhD in geography/urban planning heh, not so sexy

HT thanks for the link!

London meetup so... Is this going to happen?! Can I suggest a venue? The Festival Hall on the South Bank has a 4th floor 'bar' called the Blue Bar which when the hall is not being used is a nice space with carpet, chairs and table, where one can nip downstairs to grab tea / cake etc or can quietly feed babies with own food - any good?

Anyone else going down the baby-led weaning route and bypassing the puree? I was wanting to do this but concerned that I'm not helping my already tiny, below 1st centile daughter...?

HumphreysCorner · 04/03/2010 20:44

Clever Annalise with her rolling. The growth charts are a pain. DD2 was 12lb 8oz at 21 weeks, Matthew is 14lb 4oz.

HT-Matthew has prominent veins on his head too. Think they will become less noticable.

M squeezes and scratches my boobs when feeding, have a scab on one side.

Big wave!

devilsadvocaat · 04/03/2010 20:44

calypso - phwoar!! rrowl at your urban planning yeah meety upsies sounds good. personally i think combining blw with mashed food is the best way. i never pureed anything for ds1. meat was stewed/casseroled and mashed with veg. no bother at all. blw is great but takes aaaaages and is so messy and sometimes you just want to get something in their tums. esp useful to have some mashes when you're at other people's houses.

devilsadvocaat · 04/03/2010 20:46

festival hall

fidelma · 04/03/2010 21:15

Other than being early with the weaning, I am enjoying feeding Connor puree (sp)

Today he has had banana and apricot
sweet potato and corgetee(god I can't spell sorry!)with a little pear for pudding and carrot and brochili for tea.He loves it,and is now sleeping better, especially his naps.

I will just make the food more lumpy as we go along. All mine are good eatters and pretty much eat what we are eatting so the puree seemed to work for us.

(I secretly feel good about a freezer full of baby food)

However I have started to freeze the food in fairy cake tins as the ice cubes are too small

Also I always worry about choking, so I don't think BLW would suit me as well.I would always be thumping them on the back

I am loving my 5 months old.He is so smiley.I really feel like he has joined the family.

He has managed to sit for 8 seconds before heading for a nose dive.No rolling yet but he does go onto his side.

BellaCullen · 04/03/2010 21:36

Hi Nathaniel had his last set of jabs today and hasn`t been very happy since poor thing sleeping now.Last night he was up from 3am-5am and then finally slept a bit till 6am and then sadly was up for the day.Luckily DP did that shift and settled him.

Calypso festival hall sounds good, will be great to meet a group of us in rl.
Clever Annalise for rolling over.Hate feeding frenzy that dont lead to much weight gain as youre in false hope all that feeding does something towards weight gain.
Will be doing BLW too as first tries of puree didnt bring any interest.Have let him suck on a piece of bread and he enjoyed that good for gums and taste .Might still try porridge in morning though so will have to feed him then.So mix of both as devils said is probabl best way. Wouldnt worry to much about not getting enough food that way as she will still get her milk.

Devils that class sounds fun wondering whether they do any around here would love to do something like that.

HT N has a few prominent veins too its normal with fair skin once hair grows wont be too obvious so dont worry.

fidelma wow at 3 meals a day Connor is doing really well.I love all your stories your household sounds so much fun.

Sorry if I missed anyone out glad managed to write anything
xxx

rubyslippers · 05/03/2010 07:59

morning

festival hall sounds good - i like the south bank

weight - plateauing seems common at this age ... i think once they are on the move and eating solid food things will change again
veins - Ruby has a couple of prominent ones - again just their skin is thinner than an adults so nothing to worry about ...
weaning - 3 more weeks for us to go for it. DS LOVED his food when he was weaned - he used to eat anything and everything and loved spicy food (the nappies were yuck tho)

My little non sleeper is still as bad - last night she was up at 10.15 pm, 1.30 am, 3.15 am and then up for the day at 6.45 am. DS was up at 6 am so no sleep for me

off out later but having a lazy (HA!) morning - housework and laundry - for someone so little, Rubes generates the most amount of washing LOL!

have good days

xx

Igglybuff · 05/03/2010 08:55

Hi all

love the idea of meeting in festival hall. W is too distracted to feed properly in public (resulting in boob flashing) but maybe that will be quiet enough!

We've not got long til weaning starts but fidelma is inspiring me to want to crack on! W has been having the odd taste of my food every now and then. Plus his reflux is kicking off again so it might help?
I was going to go down the BLW route but have got a few books so might try both purée and proper food too.
W has a stinking cold so isn't a happy bunny. He just wants to sleep. As I've not got him to self settle at the start of sleeps (he only does it in the middle of the night) I take him out in the pram as bored of feeding/rocking to sleep! I'm going to try and tackle it-ruby I liked your method of getting Ruby to self settle.

W is showing little interest in sitting up - well he does it for a few seconds but loves to roll around instead! He's rolling both ways now although gets a shock when he goes from back to front. He's also starting to lift his hips up by straightening his legs when he's on his front. So I'm thinking of stairgates as worried he'll start to crawl before I know it! Although he is a bit lazy - I know he can move a bit to grab a toy but he shouts at me to get it instead!

Hope everyone is ok. We're having a quiet one today! The grandparents are coming over tomo and they insis on playing with W the whole time he's awake. Unfortunatey he's not got an off switch so gets very hyper and it triggers his reflux, cue spitting up everywhere

princessmel · 05/03/2010 19:14

Hello everyone

Thanks for all your well wishes for dd. She is on the mend. She went back to school yesterday after 2 days of being quite perky at home. I'd like to keep her off longer but she had to go back sometime. My dad has the bug now..

veins none afaik on ds2 but dd has one one her neck. It's quite bulgy!

sitting ds2 can sit (leant quite far forward) for a few seconds, before he falls over.
I have borrowed a bumbo today from my brother. Something else to give ds2 a change of scene.

rolling He has rolled over from his front to his back twice. I dont put him on his tummy much tbh. Never seems to be a good time, don't want to make him sick after feding.

door bouncers have any of you got one?? I borrowed one for ds1 and dd, I will try and borrow one for ds2.

weaning still not on the cards yet. Will do a mixture of blw and mush. Like devils said sometimes you need to get something in their tummies.
But I always remember this - until they're one food's for fun!!! And milk should be their main source of nutrition Soooo really it doesn't matter if they dont eat much solid food....but when dd was feeding almost hourly at 6 months, this was hard to deal with!!!

meet-up I'll try to come. It depends on the date and getting there etc, I'm up for it though

washing I love hanging my washing out. Only job I like doing here too
I like all the socks facing the same way and in pairs!

I walked into town from school yesterday with a friend, then had a tea and an egg and bacon muffin in M+S cafe, then wandered round the shops, bought some bits for the dc's in the sale. Then walked home and to a friends for lunch. She makes very impressive lunches, not a sandwich and bag of crisps!! Curry yesterday, seafood puff pastry parcels last time....
Then we had school run, ballet class for dd then dinner, bath, parents evening, bed. I was worn out!!
Both dc's had glowing reports at parents eve

Hope you're all ok.

fidelma · 05/03/2010 21:39

Full of curry off to bed.Getting ready for 18 adults,12 children and 3 babies on Sunday How mad are we!!!!!

Sometimes 4 children feels like alot and sometimes it doesn't.Everyone is in bed so it feels easy at the moment ! (slightly bonkers because i am exhausted)

A friend of a good friend of mine, is very ill.It looks like her last days. She is young and beautiful and has fought for too long now.She is leaving her 4 children aged 8 to under 1.She needs to let go.I am very sad for everyone, but I want her suffering to end.

rubyslippers · 06/03/2010 20:29

so pleased your DD is on the mend, but sorry your dad isn;t well princess

and yay for good school reports

fidelma - hope tomorrow goes well - i love curry! sorry to hear about your friend. So

hope everyone is doing well ... nothing new to report from me (rubes still rubbish at sleeping) but she is very sweet

HumphreysCorner · 06/03/2010 21:10

fidelma-that is so very sad about your friend. It is one of my worst fears to not see my children grow up. Good luck for tomorrow.

ruby-Matthew woke 3 times last night starting at 1am.

Got a Thanksgiving for Matthew at Church tomorrow in preparation for the Baptism later in the year.

So, so tired.

fidelma · 07/03/2010 08:14

33 comming for lunch !!!!!!!!!!!

lixanismapolium · 07/03/2010 09:09

Hello Everyone ... you've probably all forgotten that I exist, but I am still here!!! I know I've been completely useless at posting, but have been trying to catch up on this new thread this morning. Love the new name by the way - although no solids or sitting here, but jeans are hanging off me (joined weightwatchers and I have lost 18lb in the last 8 weeks!!)

I would love to meet up in London, weekends are probably better for me but would try to come along whenever it turns out to be.

I've been back at work for 4 weeks now and Phoenix has settled into nursery really well. Finding it really hard to pump enough milk for her to take with her though - she gets through 16-20 oz in the day whilst she is there (8am - 5:30 pm). Roll on Easter when she turns 6 months and I'll move her to solids. I've booked 2 weeks off work so I can introduce her to lots of new tastes myself rather than leave it to the nursery staff.

Work after sleepless nights can be pretty taxing too - luckily I have a big desk in the corner by the window, so it's not completely obvious if I'm a bit spaced out for a while every now and again!

fidlema - 33 for lunch????? wow!!!

We have dd1's 5th birthday party today - 35 4/5 yr olds to entertain for 2 hours. I'm thinking of going to hide in the wardrobe now so that I cannot be found at 3pm! I have almost finished the Snow White cake that was requested and will post a picture later if it turns out successfully - it could go either way just at the moment!

Sorry about the me me me post - just thought I should share a bit as I've been missing for so long! I'll try harder to check in a bit more regularly

devilsadvocaat · 07/03/2010 11:36

wow lixanis! great to hear from you

have started to wean charlie
can't believe my little boy is 24 weeks! he had baby rice with ebm yesterday and apple cereal today.

i honestly couldn't get it in him fast enough he was grabbing the spoon and crying between mouthfuls for the next one. he also drank cooled boiled water from a spout cup which surprised me

need to get some things to cook up for him now, only have apple and pear atm, so much for my plan to build up a supply.

ds1 was up being sick all friday night. the washing machine never stops here. however, he seems fine now.

still enjoying the sunshine

twinklegreen · 07/03/2010 11:48

Hi everyone

Just checking in, feels like it's been ages! Had all the dc's with colds this week and ds has had a bad tummy, so lots of washing for me too!

Had a pretty full on week, the build of our new house started this week so we were over supervising that, then had an offer on the house... which is now sold after a VERY stressful week of negotiating prices We are aiming to exchange in 28 days so are frantically sorting out solicitors/finances/removals! So relieved I don't have to do any more viewings, the house is a tip but I don't care Fingers crossed it doesn't all fall through.

Nice to hear from you againg lix well done on the weight loss. I'm very .

Not sure I'm going to make the meet up as it's going to be right in the middle of moving house. I'll aim for the next one.

Scout19075 · 07/03/2010 21:21

Hiya! I've been lurking this week -- reading but too tired to post. It was a crazy busy week last week in the Scout house, but a very good week. This week isn't looking much quieter!

The BF Support group we go to was re-launched last week with a big get-together, ceremony, certificate-presention, etc. Seb flirted with the mayor of our town. LOL

Tuesday I took him swimming for the first time. He LOVED it. We were in the water for just over an hour and only got out because free-swim was over and swim lessons were about to begin. He really seemed to enjoy splashing around, gliding through the water, bouncing, etc. A couple of times he got so excited he threw his face in the water and even then he still laughed in delight. That night was normal Guide night as well and he still enjoys going -- means attention and flirting!

Wednesday we went into London -- his second trip on a train and into London. After meeting work friends for lunch, we braved the tube for Oxford Circus and a trip to Hamley's. I went looking for something specific and came out empty-handed.

Thursday was our first Infant Massage class. After two long days and late nights, we both overslept and ran late getting to class. It also meant that Seb didn't get his "normal" mid-morning feed and cat nap before we went and so seemed a little bit off during the session (fed during it but couldn't/wouldn't nap). He still let me massage him, but seemed a bit restless/tired. Lots of weeing by the babies there. LOL And I had to laugh at how instructor treated her doll like a baby, but I guess they have to do that?

Friday was meant to be a quiet one, but we ended up going to meet a friend for our almost weekly Friday lunch. Then we stopped at the school where DH is a governor to thank the Head for the present she sent home for Seb with DH on Thursday.

Saturday and today, of course, meant DH has been home so out and about with him, spending time as a family. The sunshine of this weekend has made me realize how much I'm craving some warm weather. I'm looking forward to walking to the playground, sitting in the backyard and planting seeds (not much of a gardener, but like flowers in pots) and generally just being warm for once. Have also realized that this will be my first Mothering Sunday -- been so focused on sorting out things for my MiL and planning ahead for my Mom & US Mother's Day that I forgot I get to celebrate this year, too. Does anyone have plans?

littlepea72 · 08/03/2010 06:38

Just a quick one, got to get DS ready for school, so will look at all the posts later. Faith started solids last night for her dinner, it was only baby yogurt with pear, but she loved it. Then she went into her own room, she had a good look & just went off to sleep, it was a bit strange for me, i missed having her in my room! But after 4 months, my DH is now back into our bed, and i now have to put up with being on the edge without any covers! But between the solids & her own bedroom, she slept 7pm to 7am!!!!!! I just hope it wasnt a one off LOL.....Oh and its snowing again, we are under the white stuff, will it ever go???
