Morning all

I am feeling much better today, lots of rest and taking care.

Connor bear is a delight. He is my quickest eatter, typical now that you are ment to wait until 6 months!! He was kicking his legs with delight when I showed him the porriage bowl porriage with pear puree this morning.Who eles is weanning?

The girls have a drama class this morning which leaves me in town (stirling) for 2 hours. It has proved to be an expensive drama class

I am heading for the book shop to get a book on teenage girls as my 10 year old is going through a change.(teeth, growing etc )I can't believe that she is at this stage already. She is mature, lovely , emotional and still a little girl !!!!almost 5 foot and a size 5 shoe (she steals mine)

Oh well perhaps I should start a thread on pre teens and baby mush

princessmel · 27/02/2010 10:01

Morning
Hope your tooth's ok Fidelma.

No weaning here. F is so not ready. Would seem very odd giving him food tbh. He is still fed 2 hourly in day and seems happy with this. Me too.
Last night he slept from 9- 1.30am then till 7am.

Our house is the sick house at the moment. Dh was sick on monday and dd was sick after school yest and awake on and off all night with a temp. It's such bad timing as she and ds were meant to be sleeping over at my sisters last night She is missing out, bless her. Ds still went and stayed up, had a fry up this morning and is at the cinema with them now.

F is snufffly as usual. Coughing, sneezing, wheezy, runny nose, sticky eye when he wakes up.

Fidelma did you buy anything nice whilst you were waiting for girls class? How does Conner go to sleep at night time? Does he go down awake? I am going to enjoy being able to take ds2 up to bed like the other 2, and putting him down to bed. Atm it's still feeding all eve during my dinner/eastenders etc untill he zonks out.

Poor cat littlepea Hope he's ok. My cat is huge too.

Grggh at the bank details iggly. I had that once but the bank cancelled my card after 3 dodgy transactions of about 45p each!

Igglybuff · 27/02/2010 14:19

no weaning here! But I haven't tries yet. I did put some baby porridge in our supermarket delivery which arrives later today so I may well be tempted..... DH wouldn't let me as we've both agreed to wait. I am letting William taste food on my spoon if he's at the table for lunch though.

William's nights are sloooowly improving. We've had a couple of 4 hour stretches. But he has a terrible thing of waking at 5-6am and won't be put back in his cot! He's not ready to start the day as he'll happily snooze on me/DH til we get him up at 7.

We popped out today to look at bathroom tiles as hoping to get the bathroom done in April. Meant we could test out our new carseat as William is too big for the old one! I think it was supposed to last til 9 months?? He seemed to like it but was very high up!

fidelma glad the tooth is better.

littlepea I'd be scared of your cat - am scared of cats anyway!

princess I hope everyone gets better in your house. Touchwood I've managed to avoid any winter bugs this year but there's still time...

bella Ive been using cloth nappies occasionally in the day but pampers at night. We've had a few leaks at night but turns out it was because william's bits were pointing the wrong way

which reminds me - William discovered his boy bits when changing him for a bath and pulled them really hard!! He didn't seem bothered. I had to stop myself from yelping as didn't want him to think it was wrong... Anyway those of you with DSes, is this going to become a regular thing?? Also what do you call your boy's bits? Willy seems funny as it's short for William so he might get confused...

devilsadvocaat · 27/02/2010 15:53

winkies!

yes igglybuff, this is the beginning of a lifetime of winkie pulling. it doesn't even stop at adulthood. welcome to the world of boys

been cooking all day for curry night tonight with my parents and parents in law. even made naan breads!

we're also supposed to be redecorating our bathroom in apr. don't know if we will as we did so much decorating whilst pg. even had my carpet fitted whilst in labour!

peachespaige · 27/02/2010 19:37

Hi all.
fidelma your poor tooth, you just seem to get on with things, Id definitely complain alot more if it were me!

Iggly we call them willys or winkles! And if refering to the testicals dp calls them ging gangs, as in ging gang goolie goolie goolie goolie watch ya ging gang gooo ging gang gooo!
Yes they still fiddle with them and when they reach 5 they are obsessed! Ds1 got really freaked out once when, lets just say things got a little hard!!

ruby Its still 2 hourly at night for here. Dp now gives a bottle at bed and again around 10ish. It doesnt make him sleep any longer but means I dont always have to do the feeding.
Ive found a dummy really helps. He now goes down awake in the day and drifts off with it. Also dp can settle him by using it rather than me always being the dummy! Not everyones cup of tea but has worked a treat for us, regular naps, easy to settle and he only has it to sleep.

ht ds1 was so calm and easy and settled but turned into a toddler from hell! Wrecked the house escaped from nursery in to every thing. But my friends ds was how you describe Joe, a wonderful little boy but just needs more from you and finds life a bit tough sometimes and he turned into the most delightful toddler. They all have tough times at some point. Ds1 is wonderful but boy those toddler years were tough. You just wait he will be so very secure from all of the patience and love you've shown him.

princessmel Great title. Have you done anything in particular to lose your baby weight? You look great. Im loosely following weight watchers for nursing mums. Ive got 9lbs left until Im pre-pregnancy weight although Id like to be 7lbs lighter than that.

hc not sure about pins and needles, best get that checked.

scout I wouldnt hesitate travelling with a baby. I wish Id done more when we only had ds1, its so much trickier with 3 or 2. But back then we werent as confident. Now I can handle a tantrum or a screaming baby. I think before I was so worried what people would think or breaking ds1 routine (I read too many books and instead of trusting my instincts, I thought the books were right and I was rubbish). It will be so nice for your mum.

bella I hope Nathans throat improves, must be horrible for him.

No weaning here yet Got Fred weighed at 16weeks and he was 14lbs. Think thats ok.

He did grab my skinny cow chocolate ice cream lolly out of my hand the other day and loved it! Also got very excited while I was eating Sushi.

Sorry if Ive missed anyone.

fidelma · 27/02/2010 21:00

devils enjoy your curry night.I love curry.Well done for making your owne nan

Happy day at the Fidelma household

Princessmel Connor goes down awake. He then turns his head away and snuggles into his cashmere blanket!!!!He wakes on and off during the night.I can get 4 hours at first but then usually 2I get on to automatic. It is easier to give him a wee drink than to try and settle him.He often ends up in bed with me.DH is in our room and I am in with Connor. It's not the best, DH needs to sleep (so do I but hay ho)It works for us.(dh actually)

littlepea72 · 28/02/2010 05:22

Hope everyone is feeling better Peaches

Iggly my DS is almost 6 & his hands are never out of his pants! Some kids have a comfort blanket....my DS has his winky , also i find now its better to leave all the questions he askes, to my DH, the latest is...my winky is up & wont go down, why? no-one told me these questions would come, so i was a bit shocked lol

Devils its only 6am here & ive just read about your curry, now my tummy is rumbling lol hope it was nice

Bob (my cat) has a fungal infection on his neck, must of been sore, but all sorted out now Sat in the waiting room talking to the nicest wee old German farmer, who had his rather fat jack russel with him. He was telling me all about his animals, it was lovely to hear, he really loves those animals....sweet man.

Scout19075 · 28/02/2010 09:04

I can't believe Seb is four months old today. Where have those four months gone?!?!

More later -- I'm off to attempt to get the young one and I to church (after failing miserably the last three weeks. )

Igglybuff · 28/02/2010 12:06

Hapy 4 months to Seb. William is five months tomorrow - how the time flies!

I think we're gonna go with winkies... And I now have the ging gang goolie song in my head.......... I've told DH he is in charge of winkie questions

How do you all get your babies to go down for sleep awake? William just screams and flails in his cot as he gets tired and I have to calm him down. In the pram he does the same - screams but I can calm him with the dummy as he's usually wearing mittens so can't remove it. I try catching him earlier but not quite managed it yet and end up feeding him to sleep after I've got him drowsy as he fusses on the boob but wont sleep without it as he gets hungry too. I've tried a dummy but he either spits it out or takes it out and chews it. Mmm a toughie!

rubyslippers · 28/02/2010 12:24

morning all

Happy 4 month birthday to Seb!

Rubes is heading for 20 weeks and still sleeping as badly as a newborn ...

She woke at 9.30 pm last night, and i comforted her but didn't feed her and she went back down until 10.45 pm ... don't know if it was her teeth bothering her

will catch up later - am off for a much deserved child free lunch with some friends - cannot wait!

have good days
x

fidelma · 28/02/2010 14:15

Happy bday Seb

I think Connor is now 5 months Oh I am off to count the weeks.Back from counting he will be 22 weeks on Wed

We are in the middle of a mass of school projects and weekend mess [sigh]5 pairs of muddy wellies at the back door etc etc (not to mention the children tidying up their room by putting everything into the laundry basket clean clothes and all !!!!)

I am heading off to my mums for tea as I can't sand clearing up another meal

However I am drinking the most delicious mushroom soup (double cream and sherry)

devilsadvocaat · 28/02/2010 14:41

curry was fab

we had:
chicken & lentil madras
cauliflower and potato curry
lamb byriani
chickpea curry
blackbean curry
samosa
bhajis
and home made naan

with loads of diff pickles from the farm shop near us and popadums.

it was soooo good. we stuffed ourselves

and my mum made a nigella ice cream cake with hot choc sauce

i have fallen off the diet wagon in a spectacular style!

terrible night with charlie. we are in 5 month growth spurt territory. 23 weeks this week, thinking about weaning soon, do't know how much longer i can last.

lol at peaches song

littlepea72 · 28/02/2010 15:29

Iggly the baby whisperer book is a great book for sleeping. It tells you all the signs to look out for. I put Faith in her cotbed, turn on her music which in on the monitors, dummy in....leave room. She doesnt always fall asleep straigt away, but i do let her cry it out, not for long as she is mostly so tired. After about a week its so easy. I wish i had done it with my DS, he was a nigthmare!

Faith will be 5 months on the 7th, Im going to see about getting her christened soon, DS was 5 weeks old when he had his. Never had an army christening before.

HumphreysCorner · 28/02/2010 20:42

Hi all, back from our weekend in the caravan. Was a nice break and Matthew slept so much better. Will see how he does tonight back in his cot.

I call the girls' ladybits bits so am calling M's man bits bits too. He is 5 months tomorrow and has his last lot of jabs on Tuesday. Will also get him weighed.

Very tired so will catch up tomorrow.

Scout19075 · 28/02/2010 20:55

fidelma Glad the tooth is better. Tooth pain is no fun.

princessmel Hope the family is feeling better soon! I'm not sure how I'd cope if all three of us were sick at the same time....

devilsadvocaat Not a fan of curry myself, but that sounds like a feast! Definitely mmmmm at the sound of a ice cream cake with hot choco sauce, though!!

Iggly Don't know what we're going to call Seb's boy bits. Currently I'm calling them "boy bits" when we're in the bath and I'm naming the parts as they get washed. Winkie sounds like a dog to me. LOL And peaches I'll never be able to sing that song at Guide camp with a straight face again!

ruby I feel for you and the not-good sleeping. Honestly, until Seb started on the gaviscon I was in your shoes and desperate to put my head down, even for an hour. How was your lunch with friends?

littlepea By army Christening, do you mean the army chaplin or priest or whoever will do the Christening? That would be very interesting, I would think! Not a lot of people could say that's how they were Christened.

Still can't believe Sebby's 4 months old today. He fell asleep on my shoulder while we were at the sandwich shop/cafe for lunch and I marvelled at how big he is compared to the first time we took him there (we typically go most Sundays). For weeks he's been sitting up and either leaning on me or holding onto my fingers but today he managed to sit on his on for 15 seconds at a go before before falling over and bouncing on the bed. We were doing it on the bed, so if/when he fell over he wouldn't get hurt and he seemed to think the bouncing was as fun a game as the sitting. Still no interest in rolling, but he's enjoying the sitting. Also realized today that he will only reach for things he's interested in (DH's phone/computer, his Teddy) but if it's not exciting he won't bother (pen, newspaper, blanket). No weening here yet, either. He watches us eat and will sit on my lap as we eat, but doesn't seem that interested yet and I'm happy to keep on nursing.

Apologies if I've missed anyone -- hope you all had a good weekend!

Scout19075 · 28/02/2010 21:21

OH! Just curious, how did everyone choose their DC's name/s and which parent was the one that made the name suggestion? I get asked that question all the time and am never sure how to respond....

HappyTangerine · 01/03/2010 07:10

Dydd Gwyl Dewi Sant hapus everyone-Happy St. Davids Day! Am feeling quite homesick for my beautiful country today. Even if France did thrash us at the rugby on Friday

I have just sneezed 54..yes 54 times in a row. Am exhausted now!

We got a call on Friday to say a place at baby massage class had become available so at 10am this morning we'll be there. Its a 5 week course. Joseph is by and large sleeping for longer at night although once awake is v hard to settle back to sleep. I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet at some point and shush pat him in order to help him learn to self settle but it's so hard. He gets so worked up screaming that he vomits and the neighbours on one side bang on the wall. . Mind you, these are the same neighbours that forced us to swap our living and dining rooms over because the 34yr old son was playing house music at all hours on the opp wall where his bedroom isn. They've now put a stereo on the opposite side of the wall to where our living room is now and current favourite is Susan Boyle. Over and over again, we have I Dreamed a bloody Dream each day- its torture!

People keep asking us when we're going to try for our second-dh looks visibly pale but we would like more, just can't see past our current sleeplessness! I will admit to looking at the ttc and breastfeeding threads on the conception boards. My MIL was told that you couldn't get pg while bf then found herself pg with my dh when SIL was only 14 weeks old! She was 38 and 39 when her dcs were born. I'm 37 this year and hope Ive got the chance at at least 1 more. Or am I being unrealistic re age? Hope not!

Am trying reuseable nappies this week, have got some fuzzi bunz to try from ebay. What insert should I be using with them?

Oh I almost forgot-the green poo has gone!

fidelma-much sympathy heading your way on the tooth, how is it today? Has all the snow gone now, it seems to have been snowing forever up there!

Calypso not sure where you're from in France but hope all your loved ones are ok re. the storms.

princessmel Hoping that everyone is on the mend now and you have a better week.

ruby Try rubbing a little anebesol liquid on Faith's gums as soon as she wakes-it numbs the area v.v quickly. Its saved me a few times from Joseph waking up fully.

Iggly How are you getting on with no dairy at the moment? I'm afraid I have succumbed to the lure of the Creme Egg this weekend. In my defence, they are everywhere and v hard to avoid! Joseph is also grabbing his winkie a lot, although seems more fascinated by his feet at the moment, we can have hours of fun just by whipping off his socks!

Bella I hope Nathaniel's throat has improved over the weekend. Re his weight-he's gaining so it's all in the right direction. Those weigh ins are so stressful aren't they?

peaches Thanks for your kind and optimistic words. Even if Joe turns out to be a challenge as a toddler, I don't really mind-life is never dull with him and I love him to bits. He's incredibly nosey and such a flirt-always smiling these days which is lovely!

littlepea hope your cat is on the mend, sounds like a real character!

scout Your mum is going to have such a wonderful surprise when you arrive! Happy b'day seb for yesterday

Re. names-Joseph was going to be a Gabriel pretty much all the way along, Joseph was on our list as well(my suggestion). His middle name was always going to be Richard, after my dad. We were a bit worried about "Gabriel Richard" being shortened to Gay Dick" at school but in the end decided to wait and see. As it was, when he came out (kicking and yelling very loudly in protest) he looked like a Joseph, Gabriel just didn't fit. What about you?

So sorry if I've missed anyone, the sneezing fit has left me really tired so I'm going the try and nap x

devilsadvocaat · 01/03/2010 09:38

wow 54 times! i loe the name joseph, would have been on my list but a good friend of mine ha a boy called joseph. charlie is a fav name of mine. dh kind of chose boy and girl names for ds1. we also had benjamin on our list but he def looked like a charlie when he came out!

happy st. david's day! what are you doing to celebrate?

i have started doing some sit up crunches today as my tummy is awful so much worse thn last time! have 9lbs to go to pre-preg weight...

sorry but lol @ gay dick

HumphreysCorner · 01/03/2010 10:47

Ha, gay Dick is so funny.

Names-DH chose DD1's first name and I chose DD2's. He doesn't see the need for a middle name so I chose them. I chose Matthew's name but DH insisted on his middle name being his dad's name so he felt the need then.

HT-you are certainly not too old at 37. Had M 1 week before my 40th. BF is most definitely not a form of contraception. Being tired all the time is. Much sympathy about your neighbours, up until I was 12 we lived in a semi and I played the clarinet and our neighbour worked shifts. They compained all the time about me playing it. You can't do anything about a baby crying as that is what babies do! Susan Boyle? Hope the massage is good.

My road tax is due today but for some reason we forgot the MOT was due in October so can't tax it until tomorrow after the MOT has been done.

Have a good day. Off to see the Vicar tonight to arrange a Baptism.

HC
x

HappyTangerine · 01/03/2010 11:48

Gay Dick always makes me smirk as well and I'm (allegedly) a grown up so you can imagine what kids would have done with that combo

Baby massage quite good, Joseph amusingly kept trying to sit up from a lying down position and managed it once before lying back down in shock!

devils Good luck with the crunches. For St David's day so far there has been much singing down the phone at family, making Welsh cakes (which dh won't eat so all the more for me) and rushing to meet my OU deadlines which are on the same day for both. So today I'm switching between 4 languages-v confusing! DH has been walking around loudly singing all the wrong words to the Wlsh National anthem because he knows how much that winds me up He's English-we met at school when he was exiled to Wales for a few years

HC Thats good to hear re age. My cousin is just about to have her 4th at 24 and there's a woman in our church on No6 at 27! I remembered road tax on Friday (my first as I'd always had company cars before then) but this morning had a letter from the DVLA re renewing my photo licence. I think £20 every 10 years is quite frankly, taking the mickey. What do they do with the money?

littlepea72 · 01/03/2010 11:53

HT Im 38 & woman have babies well into their 40's. God i would be banging that wall right back! some people just dont think. Cant stand loud music, but a baby completely different. As for the other side....I'll send you some of my Metallica cd's lol...

Devils, happy St Davids day

Scout it is indeed the chaplin who does the christening. My DH's family (MIL) completely ruined my DS's christening...i cant even think about it, so this time we will do it here in Germany. My family know & are fine with it, DH's family will know when it is done. Plus i think with Faith being born here, i would love to have her chistened here too.

My DH & myself had a bet on about the sex of both babies, and whoever got it right, got to name the baby silly i know. He only got to choose them both! I hated the name Faith, but it was better than what he wanted to call her, Harmony! All i could think about was the hairspray lol...But i like the name faith now, and i got to name their middle names, Samuel & Scarlett.

rubyslippers · 01/03/2010 13:58

hello all

Lunch yesterday was fab - made me realise how much i need some time for myself

I came back really refreshed

Am thinking of trying to wean Ruby off one night feed. Do you think it is madness?! She feeds at 11 ish, 2 ish and 5 ish. The 2 ish one is not as long as the others, and i think there is an element of habit

Or, should i wait until she is on solids?

HT - you have time. All the Susan Boyle would do my head in ... a baby is totally different

HC - when are you planning the baptism?

We are lucky as our neighbours have a toddler, so when Rubes was up constantly they were nothing but sympathetic

Am in awe of those of you who are exercising ... i try to walk everyday, but fatigue makes me less inclined to do anything. Also, am hoping now the weather is better i may be less inclined to comfort eat loads of stodgy food!

hope everyone is ok
xx

princessmel · 01/03/2010 19:01

Hello all
Still have a very poorly dd She is just so weak. Aching all over, her limbs, her mouth, her throat, everything, She is on day 4 of a temp too. Went to the docs and got some antibiotics for a sore ear. I think she has had a bug and also an ear infection. There is scarlett fever doing the rounds here so going to call the docs again if she's not picked up tomorrow. usually she is perky quite quickly after starting Ab's. (she had a lot of ear infections as a toddler)
She has lost a lot of weight and is looking very pale with dark under eye circles. Even her hair looks thinner. I can see all her back bones poking through her clothes
She is floppy and wimpering with calpol and neurofen alternated.
Now my sister and her dh have the bug. V+D all night.

On a positive note I am very happy about ds1's teeth. We had a dentist appt today . My mum came so I could push dd in a buggy (she's too weak to walk)and ds2 in his pram.
I didn't want to cancel appt as needed to ask about his teeth. Since his bottom 2 big teeth have come through they have been yellow in patches. Like yellow tipex. So I mentioned it to the dentist and she said its calcification (sp) and is prob due to his inhalers..he's had them since 18m...and then she removed it!!! We thought he was stuck with it forever. He was starting to worry about it and had noticed it and didn't like it. So yay!!!!

ruby Lovely about the lunch I've had a few girly lunches but taken ds2 with me..I still felt 'better' after though.
I wouldn't drop the feed but I am a wuss! I suppose you could try and pat shush instead but you've probably already tried that. I just feed as it's easier/quiter and less painful to me!!

Last night ds2 slept from 9 til 6am!!! I was very chuffed (sos Ruby... )

Happy St Davids day to you
You all bake/cook sooo much!! Making all sorts of things! I make fairy cakes and that's it!! Curry...mmmmmm!!
Dh and I went out for a curry on saturday night. First night out since ds2 was born. It was lovely but we were aware we had to be back as dd is ill and ds2 could have woken.
He didn't go down till nearly 9 so we ate late, but it was fine. And yummy

Fidelma Cashmere!! Lovely! I want ds2 to find a comforter. He's not latched onto anything yet. I think when he can hold things better and sit etc it will be more obvious. As when they sit up, and you arrange their toys around them, you notice what they go to the most or when they're tired.
I am putting a lovely polar bear in his crib every nap and bedtime so that might evolve into his fave thing. It's hypoalegenic, organic cotton and stuffed with stuffing from sustainable forests

peaches Thank you I have not done anything. I never diet or do exercise! I do walk to school and back and then again at 3 though. I have a floppy , stretched tummy though which will never ever be nice again. Plus I will be pleased when my boobs are smaller and I can wear nice push up bras again.

no.4 Not sure. Before ds2 I was thinking about it but tbh the preg was so long with ds2 and the labour so awful I don't know if I could. Plus we'd deffo need an extension. And we can't afford that till I go back to work and I wont do that till ds2 is in school.....so prob not feesable.

names Dh and I decided together. Freddie is named after dh's grandad. He died ages ago but dh's gran died whilst I was pregnant and we thought it was appropriate. Plus we liked it His middle name is mine and dh's brothers name. So that was a good choice. I am not overly keen on it but it has good family connections.

christening I have not done the other 2 and have no plans for ds2 either. Mil would love me to though...

scout deffo agree flights with babies easier. No crawling off/ wriggling to get down etc. No millions of loo trips. Just bf them and they sleep and smile at passengers.

rubyslippers · 01/03/2010 20:48

princess mel - so sorry about your DD. What a worry ... hope she perks up for you soon ...

x

Igglybuff · 01/03/2010 20:52

Hi everyone.

princess sorry to hear about your DD. I hope she gets better soon - it sounds awful

I love a good curry (having one tonight for dinner ). Mmmm.

ruby glad you had a lovely lunch. I've only been out once "solo" and it was great. I'm owed another outing by my hubby so must do it soon! I would attempt to drop that feed - we've been trying it with William and occasionally he has slept through from midnight and fed at 4am instead!

HT my non dairy diet is slipping a bit and I'm noticing more wind in William so better get back on the wagon. I blame chocolate biscuits. I keep forgetting they're not allowed...

baby names DH and I wrote a list of 5 names each and William was the only one that matched. So we stuck with it! Although we don't call him that, we call him by his bump nickname which we christened when I was pregnant. Worried he's going to be confused with two names!

Hope everyone else is keeping well. W has been so unsettled - I've only just got him down and I can hear him crying already better go
