What a gorgeous baby Miaou!! Can I ask though, where is all your baby weight? You look great in the picture too, I'm very Oh well, back to the gym it is, now that ds2 is sleeping really well I've been managing to get to the gym 3 times a week, hopefully that will help shift some of the weight and get my legs back in shape. Bizarrely I have one leg fatter than the other, I discovered this when I was buying the boots that were a reward for not swearing at dh when I was in labour and one is tighter than the other. I guess I will have to work my right leg harder than the left. My SPD seems to have almost resolved itself, I only have twinges now and it hurt when I slipped in the shower and when I did a twirl on one foot in my new skirt. So now when dh asks me to give twirl in something new I will have to graciously decline. Hope everyone is doing OK.

Miaou · 19/10/2005 20:27

Kate, the baby weight is all still there, it's hiding under ds!!! I've got about a stone to lose still but vowed now that I'm not going to "diet" while ds is exclusively breastfed - I'm very protective of my supply!

I'm taking ds swimming tomorrow for the first time - we have to go down to Oban for the nearest pool with a toddler pool (too cold in the Fort William pool!) I hope he likes it.

How are all the other August babies doing?

Dazie · 20/10/2005 11:54

A stone to lose, there wont be anything left of you!!!! My friend was just like you after her third she informed me that she still had weight to lose and she just tucks it in her knickers!!!

Ds2 is doing well. He is still constantly feeding and will not be held by anyone else, Im sure he gets worried about missing a meal if he is away from my boobs for more than 2 minutes!! Dh is at home with a bad back so Im nursing him, ds1 has had bad croup for three days last week so he was at home to and dd had a stomach bug so things have been a bit mad around here!

Hope everyone else is doing well!

josey · 21/10/2005 10:11

hi just been trying to catch up still at mums heading home today though, the weather has been awful the wind unreal, thankfully its lovely today so no nasty crossing.
DD has taken to sleeping through the night now has been doing so for nearly 2 weeks and before i tell you how long for i will duck!!!! between 10 and 11 hours last night she went to sleep at 9.30 and that was her at 8.30 needing fed she barely sleeps during the day though and hates to be left in a room by herself or will only sleep if you are holding her put her down and all hell breaks loose
DS has taken a backward step in the department i thought he would be fine with Granny and grandpa but he couldnt care less about them he just wants attention from me which isnt like him at all he usually ignores me when they are around hopefully he will get back to normal when we get home, well better go need to get organised and the car packed

josey · 21/10/2005 23:06

miaou just managed to see the pic of your little boy he is so cute, and actually really looks like my dd they are so similar its scaryent a clue how to post a photo or id let you see

Azure · 23/10/2005 20:06

We're back from holiday in Spain and had a good - if not exactly relaxing - time. DS2 was great on the flights (unlike our first trip with DS1, who was one at the time and had just started to walk) and was ok about the travel cot provided by the hotel. Hope everyone is well - glad your little one is getting over chicken pox Kate.

Miaou · 24/10/2005 16:04

Hello all, we are quite quiet here compared to some of the other clubs, aren't we?

Well ds seems to have passed through his phase of sleeping through, and we are back to night feeding again! Dh - bless him - gets the dds up and ready for school, so all I have to do is appear downstairs bleary-eyed at 8.30am and shove them out of the door at 8.40am to catch the bus - and I get to sleep in to whenever at the weekend! In fact one day last weekend I appeared downstairs just before nine and dh said "what are you doing up so early?" Yes, I know how lucky I am!

Apart from that, and a plague of headlice (argh!!) life continues as normal. Ds is now awake for up to three hours at a time, still absolutely no pattern to his day, except that he is always asleep between 1am and 11am (apart from feeds). He is laughing and gurgling a lot too, which is just lovely.

I got a letter from my hv today - she is running a baby massage course for me and two friends - a four week course (once a week), no less! That starts on Friday.

moschops · 24/10/2005 18:34

hi all.....

my ds has gone from sleeping 6-8 hours a night back to four hours.......just as i was getting used to having a decent nights sleep......

he is a very happy and contented baby though and frequently wakes us in the middle of the night with his giggling........we bought him a cot mobile which he adores.

only downside to life is that i'm a bit lonely.....missing female company, i have lots of friends i talk to on the phone but it is no substitue for real human contact....

colinandcaitlinsmommy · 25/10/2005 16:27

Hi all.

It has been awhile for me, hasn't it?

We found out Caitlin is tongue-tied, but it doesn't really seem to be affecting her. She is doing very well feeding, so both the dr and DH and I agree that doing nothing about it and hoping it will correct itself is the best action.

We had a bit of an adventure as Colin somehow managed to figure out how to undo her baby swing belt and picked her up and carried her about 10 feet and put her up on the sofa. I don't know how he managed, but it made me feel so scared, and like a horrible mother. He had to bend over to get her and raise her up to the sofa level. I'm just glad she didn't get hurt.

We all are going to a pumpkin patch today with our playgroup. Saturday is girls' day out and some friends and I are going to a spa (woo-hoo) while DH has the kids ALL DAY!!!!!!!

I'm afraid my child is going the reverse of yours. She who has never come anywhere near sleeping through the night made it from 9:30 to 4:30 the night before and from 10-5:30 last night.

Miaou · 25/10/2005 16:59

Hello there c&cmommy - nice to hear from you again! Aw you must have been so scared re Colin moving Caitlin, but how sweet of him too! (assuming he was trying to be helpful of course) What a shame about the tongue-tie, but glad it's not causing any problems.

Moschops, just to make you feel better, ds surpassed himself last night - didn't go to sleep until 2.30am!!! (needless to say he has now slept for about 5 hours straight )

josey · 25/10/2005 17:25

i feel for you all with non night sleeping babes im affraid to say dd is great she went down at 9.30/10 last night and woke up at 6.30 for a cuddle as she was a bit cold as usual kicked the blnkets off and carrid on sleeping till 9.

the down side is when awake thats her all day demanding attention its impossible to get anything done at all.

she had her injections today and broke her wee heart, its changed since ds i was sitting waiting for them to put the drops down her mouth while she was screaming and i also had her turned over to get them in her bum i felt very old fashioned and out of date when the nurse said no dear they go in the leg now!!!!!!!!!!!

C&Cs mommy you must have got a fright DS hasnt tryed that but im sure he is desprate to bounce DD out of her chair!
poor caitlin at least its not causing any problem - is it something she will just grow out of or will they have to do something later in life?

Miaou · 25/10/2005 21:02

Josey, have you thought of using a grobag? I've got a couple for ds (bought off mumsnet) and they're excellent. Plus when I feed him at night I just feed him in the grobag so he stays nice and warm and sleepy.

kate100 · 25/10/2005 21:40

I use grobags too, sometimes I look at him all warm and snugly and wish I had one too

Injections again for ds2 tomorrow and hospital for DS1 on thursday and I'm hoping he'll be discharged. We drove past the hospital today and a voice from the back of the car pipes up 'me and Ben don't like the doctors', oh dear, I think it must have really affected him.

So far, DS1 has been very gentle with DS2, however today he did put his fingers in his mouth and he has taken to stroking DS2 on his face.

Had a good day today on the weight front. I don't weigh myself I just use my clothes as a guide and I can now fit back in my old trousers. Admittedly they are a bit tight but I couldn't even get in them a few weeks ago so I'm feeling very happy

kate100 · 27/10/2005 21:36

Had a hideous day, took ds1 to the hospital for a check up on his leg. His appointment was at 10:38(?!) so I arrived at 10:15 as I knew he'd be sent for an x-ray. So I asked does he need to go for an x-ray and was tols no. We then waited for an hour to be seen, with DS climbing the walls as he was so frightened, got to see the doctor and surprise, surprise he sent us for an x-ray. At which point I lost the plot and shouted at him, he hadn't even apologised for keeping us waiting for so long and then sent us for an x-ray we could have gone for in the time we'd been waiting like other people had been. I couldn't believe it. Stupid man How hard can it be to look through your patients notes before a clinic and send them for x-rays before they see the doctor, instead of keeping them waiting, then sending them to wait in x-ray and then having to wait to see the doctor again? Am very very cross They've built this bloody big hospital an one site and it's absolute crap, everytime I've gone there something has gone wrong. It was much better when different things were in different places, now they're all in one place so they can all f*ck up together. Feel a bit better now and most importantly ds's leg is completely healed and he's been discharged, so we won't have to go back. He's still got a bit of a limp, but hopefully that will improve. If you made it this far thanks for listening

I've also sent off my formal complaint about what happened when ds2 was born and that's made me feel a lot better. I think writing it all down has made me feel better and I think I've sent off all the bad feelings with the letter, I just hope that the response I get doesn't bring it all back again.

DS2 had his jabs yesterday and he didn't even cry for the first one and only a whimper for the second. He's had a bit of a bad tummy today, but on the whole he's been OK. I've found the skin reation was a lot less with this jab than the one ds1 had

colinandcaitlinsmommy · 27/10/2005 22:03

Don't you just love it when dr's don't realize how hard it is to wait with a 2 yr old and a newish baby????? Glad you don't have to go back.

Josey--They figure her tongue tie won't be that much of a problem. I've been reading up on the internet about it, and there are 2 very definite schools of thought about taking care of it right away or leaving it alone. I really don't think it should be that much of a problem later for her, and since she does fine eating (you should see the 2nd chin she's got) I don't want to do anything about it. Even if we have to later, it won't be a big deal. I guess my sister had it, and it corrected itself.

We had a great time at the pumpkin patch. Colin loved the horse-drawn cart ride they had to take us out there, and he and his little friends went crazy around the pumpkins. Caitlin went in her baby bjorn and slept the whole time. They even gave the kids snacks and we were there all morning. Not bad entertainment for only $3 (including 1 pumpkin of any size.)

What a crazy time of year. We're invited to 3 birthday parties, 1 halloween party, 2 baby showers in just the next month alone. And my friend and I are going to put on a Christmas party for our friends.

Hope all are doing well.

Oh, I forgot Miaou, I saw your sleep thread and am sorry DS is such a nightowl. I remember Colin was a horrible sleeper, but what little progress he made by 3 months was wasted when he started to learn to coo and wanted to talk all the time.

josey · 27/10/2005 22:56

oh kate100 sorry you had such a horrible day, sounds like you need yet another letter of complaint sent to the health service!!glad DS1s eg is healed though.

have tried grow bags she hates those too the closest i can get is tucking her in and stays that why for a while(she loves to sleep with her legs in the air)and as long as she keeps her mits on during the night is usually fine, the house is warm enough but somehow she get really cold hands and the rest of her his fine, ds was the same hated to be wraped in blankets or anything still does and sleeps upside down

ds had his halloween disco at school tonight and i was a lazy mum this year and bought him a skeleton outfit from tesco i think every other mother had the same idea there were millions of them running around we had to make sure we took the right one home!!!!he was very dissapointed as he won the fancy dress last year, bad mum i have promised i will make a better outfit next year though

C&C mommy i love the sound of your pumpkin dayout - the pumplin i got last year was ripe by the time halloween came and when we picked it up the string went straight though and it fell on the floor whoops

Azure · 29/10/2005 15:26

Sorry to hear about yet another bad experience at the hospital Kate, but glad DS is on the mend. I've been at my parents' for a few days but am back home now in time for the return to school on Monday. I was tearing my hair out at DS2 the other night, but felt last night was better - asleep at 8.30pm, then feeds at 1.45am and 4.30am before waking at 6.45am. Still a long way to go until I get any decent sleep, but I managed to make the night-time feeds much quicker than before, which helped immensly, and DS2 is now in the cot in his own room rather than the crib in our bedroom. Unfortunately DS1 woke up 3 times in the night (no particular reason, although he is a bit weazy) - honestly, I think the boys confer to ensure DH and I get as little sleep as possible.

Damn, just realised I've forgotten to take the mini-pill within the ridiculously short time-frame again. I've been taking it for almost a month and don't think I've been protected at all within that period because it keeps slipping my mind to take it. Just as well I'm too tired to have any sort of bedtime activity anyway.

Azure · 29/10/2005 15:27

Oh and yes, it is quiet on this thread. I know I've been out of action for most of the last 2 weeks, but come on girls - let's hear it.

kate100 · 30/10/2005 16:46

I slept a lot better after DS2 moved into his own room, he's a really light sleeper and we used to wake each other up. Unlike ds1, when he goes to sleep it's like he's been hit over the head with a bat!!

The change in time didn't seem to affect them too much, tried extra hard to keep them up until 8 last night and they slept until 7 new time, which was fine as it felt like it was 8 and we weren't tired. It's such a faff changing all the clocks and I have to keep checking whether I've changed the clock or not.

Tried to take the boys swimming this morning, but there wasn't enough chlorine in the pool so it was closed so we couldn't. We think we might go on Wednesday afternoon as DH is off work and as the school are back it should be nice and quiet.

Starting thinking about Christmas this week, only 8 for dinner this year not 11, but still need to get prepared and do things in advance as I can't do it all in one go, too stressful. I've ordered the boys stockings with their names on, which are very cute and am starting to look for their PJ's. MIL has mentioned she's looking for some too, but I like to do it myself. She gets very enthusiastic about things and tries to do too much. When she had young children she wanted to do the nice things too and sometimes forgets that it's mine and DH's turn to enjoy the fun stuff. At least I know she means well, it's all done with the best intentions, but sometimes she gets it a bit wrong, but DH is very good having a quiet word. What are everyone else's plans for christmas, am I the only one mad enough to have nearly all their family round? Probably!!

moschops · 31/10/2005 11:48

i have moved ds onto next stage formula at the advice of my health visitor, to try and combat his sickyness....it has worked to some extent....he seems to be particularly bad after his afternoon feed but we get hardly any sick at all after his night feeds.

i still think it might be a bit of reflux but i'm not sure. he will be sick from one feed to the next and having done some reading on the net he does have several recognised symptoms of reflux....i'm just reluctant to take him to my gp because aside from creating me LOTS of washing it doesn't seem to bother ds at all...infact he quite frequently giggles when he's been sick!!!

am about to start selling stuff on ebay so am off to fry my brains trying to figure it all out.....have no idea at all about all this technology stuff and have to figure out how to post pics.....i need to get sorted i am up to my ears in stuff that needs to be cleared out of my house!!! (the money would be good too!)

kate100 · 31/10/2005 17:47

Moschops, DS1 was the sickiest baby. I used to do 3 or 4 lods of washing a day, my clothes and his. It does get better and if he's happy with it, then I wouldn't worry. Of course when he starts on solids things get pretty colourful

DS2 is trying to roll over, he gets his legs up in the air and throws them to the side but he isn't strong enough to get all the way over yet. He's still terrible at sleeping during the day, the slightest thing wakes him and he'll only sleep in the cot or the pram other wise he wakes up, he won't even sleep in the car.

DS1 is now back on the buggy board as his leg is so much better, only today he let go and I didn't notice until he landed on my feet and gave me a most disgruntled look.

pookey · 01/11/2005 13:40

Hi I had my baby Noah on the 11th of august. he is very cute but not the best sleeper so have started Gina Ford today (to be honest he sleeps fairly well but I am desperate to have a good stretch of sleep at night without the 2:00 and 5:00 wakings. Can't find who said they were going to wait until the clocks went back to begin putting their little one into a routine but how is it going? Noah is about half an hour ahead of schedule so far but he had a fairly good nap

Azure · 01/11/2005 13:52

Sorry to hear about the daytime sleeping Kate - I bet you could do with the break. Moschops, I hope the new formula works for DS. I want to start to move DS2 to a bottle. DH successfully did a formula bottle feed on Sunday, but when I tried to do an expressed milk one yesterday DS2 was having none of it (his puzzled look of why aren't you just using your breasts?).

My diary is fairly busy now - I don't know when I used to fit in work. NCT support group on Tuesdays (and baby clinic when I bother to go), baby massage on Wednesdays as well as half-day at school for DS1, pilate on Fridays, and I still need to join a gym and get in shape. Yesterday I met up with a girlfriend and we spent over an hour in a clothes shop in my desparate attempt to find something to wear that's not still maternity clothes. Depressingly, nothing looked good, even in the larger sizes I was prepared to buy. I was going to have my hair cut yesterday, but discovered some nits in DS1's hair the day before (it has been doing the rounds at school but is my first encounter with it - yuck), and I was worried that I might have picked up a few and didn't want to risk a visit to the hairdressers. I still associate nits with being dirty but know that isn't (and can't be for us) the case. I am going to go into work on Thursday for a meeting and to take in the baby, and I was hoping to look at lot better than I do at the moment. Oh well.

The other annoying thing is that I have a puncture in the tyre of my new pushchair - what a pain.

Azure · 01/11/2005 13:55

Hello Pookey and congratulations on Noah (born on my dad's birthday). I'll be interested to hear how the routine goes. DS2 is waking up at around 1am and 4am but I am convinced he doesn't need a 4am feed. If Noah does wake up in the night are you still feeding him - if not, what are you doing to settle him?

kate100 · 01/11/2005 14:31

Hi Pookey, your baby was born on my dh's birthday. I'm sorry I can't offer any advice as I haven't read Gina Ford and my boys have learned to sleep on their own with very little help from me.

Azure I felt much better when I'd had my hair cut and DS2 was an angel. He just sat on my knee and smiled at himself in the mirror. Sorry about the puncture, what a pain, if it's any consolation I had a puncture in my car this week, I'd driven over a screw and had to have a new tyre. Thankfully the man at the garage was very efficient and managed to change the tyre while the boys were asleep in the back.

Ds1 keeps prodding ds2 when he's asleep, which isn't often and certainly isn't helping with the lack of daytime sleep.
