sorry to hear the moschops thoughts are with you.

K7 i have given DD one if not she will be the size of a house cause she thinks she should always suck on something mainly me or a bottle (i must be the worst mother on the august threat haha) i would rather she had a dummy you can take that away from them you cant take away there thumbs or fingers, my uncle sucked his thumb for years and and a result has a disfigured thumb 40plus years on - my DS also had a dummy and he spat it out at 18months never to want it again
Do what your happy with

Well, I jinxed myself by announcing she only woke up once, and last night she was up twice, but for hours each time. DD and DS both have really stuffy noses, so I think that is the reason.

K7, I gave in and ended up giving Caitlin a dummy after being used as a human one for a few days. She has it every once and awhile, and it helps, because she would eat too much and her stomach would hurt (I think) or her using me as a human pacifier. I gave DS one, too, and he had mostly given it up before 9 mo, I think. So Josey, you're not the only bad mommy on here .

Sorry that your grandma died, moschops; thinking of you.

Thanks Josey and C&C'smummy - glad I'm not alone. I have to admit that having cracked and used a dummy after three weeks, I was feeling a bit shamefaced. Just made me feel as though I ought to be better at pacifying her... My first baby so all is a bit new right now!

Very sorry to hear about your gran Moschops, and sorry that family wrangles are upsetting you.

K7 don't worry about the dummy, it's far easier to take away a dummy than a thumb!! Also, tell your MIL that dummies are a lot easier to keep clean and hygenic than fingers. Don't worry about getting it 'wrong', everything is so hard with your first, just do what feels right.

DS1 is out of plaster at last although getting out of it was fairly traumatic as the saw was really loud and he got very frightened and we both cried. The poor man who took it off felt terrible, until I explained that I'd been cut by the saw when I'd had a cast removed and had worked myself up about it for days and then when it was all OK I cried with relief. I'm so worried he'll hurt himself again and he seems very scared of walking too, I think it will be a long time before he's back to his old self.

DS2 is cooing away at me today, DH says he has a lovely singing voice. He's also smiling like a mad thing and kicking his legs, I think we're getting to the stage where he'l start to interact more, instead of wanting to eat all the time.

Josey, glad that you got some sleep, I don't know how you're doing this all on your own.

Josey-Glad that you got a good sleep. Thanks for the thought, but I'm thousands of miles away from Rita, and we don't get hurricanes here ever. I am thinking about all the people in Texas, though, and hoping they will be alright.

Kate, glad your son got his cast off.

Caitlin slept till 3:30 this morning, but then was up forever, so I'm not sure if that was a good thing or not. She was smiling away and trying to coo. Too bad she didn't save that for daytime.

Sorry to hear about your Gran Moschops. Kate100 glad DS1 is out of plaster at last. Josey, how great that your DH will be home by the weekend.

Things are ok here - parents staying as DH is away until tomorrow. DS2 is 5 weeks today and has seemed to be a lot more alert in the last few days, really looking around and focusing on things. Feeding is every 2-4 hours but he gets quite windy, especially in the evening (colic I guess). As he has just gone down (2 hours from starting to bath him) I think I may go to bed now.

Quite normal blossom - dd2 caught colds off dd1 at this age, and ds has had a slight cold already . Breastfeeding increases their immunity but does not make them totally immune to them.

Sorry to hear about babies with colds. It seems like everyone was busy this weekend. It was my birthday yesterday and I felt a little down about it - my last year in my thirties. As usual, DH did nothing to make it special, although at least got me a present (unlike last year which, although I know he was going to buy a piano for me, was still depressing as I was having a miscarriage at the time). DS2 was determined to let me appreciate every hour of my birthday by being a real horror in trying to get off to sleep. Still, Pride and Prejudice with my best friend and my sister tonight, which should be great.

Happy birthday for yesterday Azure hope you have a lovely night tonight to make up for things.

I had a nice quiet weekend though we went out for a meal with friends on Saturday night i was lovely but i forgotten how horrible it is to leave baby for the first time i was almost vowing never to go out again. Along with the panic of trying to find something to wear. Plus sticky toffee pudding doesnt help much with the flabby belly!!

Still no results back on DDs eyes but some nice woman at the clinic managed to log on toanother system and tell me that they had been done at the hospital on the 15th september so she would print them off and get a doctor to look at them and phone me back, where as the rest of them growled at me for phoning telling me did i not know it takes time

Well we had a quiet weekend ds1 was shattered from his first full week of school so we watched dvds and ate lots.

Ds2 is now 12 pounds 7oz at six weeks so he is doing fairly well, I have my six week check on wed and booking ds2 in for his first injections how time has flown by!

Now starting to look at getting fit and losing this baby weight that I have been carying since ds1 4 1/2 years ago. Not quite sure how yet maybe swimming or running I have never done any running before but quite fancy doing the race for life next year and would like to run the whole distance.

Azure happy birthday for yeasterday!!

Happy birthday Azure for yesterday! you should get yourself something from www.boxinthepost.com lots of great things!!

Doctor's said that DD2 had a mild cold but at their age any type of cough just sounds so painful. she's well and fine. developing her own routine that does fit around DD1's. Although since cold has decided to wake up twice in the night!! little pickle but at least not screaming at bedtime anymore.

Almost 4 weeks before i'm back in london!!! gets me tearful even thinking about it

Not had a chance to catch up with all the chat on here yet, but wanted to finally pop over and say hello! Things here are going great, Phoebe is feeding well and has even been sleeping through the night the majority of the time since we got home - I'm waiting for the catch!!! I've just posted details of Phoebe's birth on my announcement thread - am hoping it makes sense, ended up typing quite a lot. Here's a link to our web page in case you'd like to see some pics of dd Phoebe

Hope everyone is well, will catch up soon but need to go and cook a bit of tea while dd is sleeping. DH went back to work today (finishes at 9pm) so it's been our first day just the 2 of us. Am loving being a Mum!

Thanks for the birthday wishes. When I left the house last night to go to the cinema poor DH was dealing with 2 wailing boys, despite my best attempts. Still, a couple of glasses of champagne later and I felt better and both boys were asleep when I got home.

Happy late birthday, Azure.

Good to hear from you Twiga.

Things are going ok here, except for the fact that I think Caitlin has colic. Her fussy periods are early morning and evening, so at least I have DH to help deal with her. I think her case is pretty mild, though, so she's not terrible to deal with.

It was our anniversary yesterday, so PIL were going to watch the kids. Caitlin was up for a very long time at night, and when she finally went down, Colin got up and wouldn't go back to sleep. So I was up from 1 am on after getting to bed at 11, so we didn't bother going out. Caitlin is doing fairly well at sleeping. She seems to be getting up at 2 and 6ish, so really only once per night. This morning was funny, because she had barely started crying when Colin came tearing out of his room to "take care" of her. Apparently we didn't get there fast enough, I guess I shouldn't have stopped to put on my robe.

Happy belated birthday, Azure. Was the film any good, worth getting a babysitter for?

DS2 had his first injections yesterday, it's absolutely horrible. He cried and cried and cried. He had a bit of a temperature in the afternoon and was quite sleepy but part from that he's fine. He;s sleeping through in his own room and that means that I can sleep properly too, as I'm always listening out for his noises when he's in our room, now I can watch the little flash in the monitor and know that he's OK.

Oh, and poor ds1 has got chickenpox!! Thank goodness he had I think he'd have gone mad. Looks like I had that injection for nothing as I don't have chickenpox

Report
Azure · 30/09/2005 09:55

Thanks for the birthday wishes Kate. I have to say I was mildly disappointed in the film, mainly because I was making an unfair comparison to the classic TV series and a 2 hour film can't possibly have the same detail. Still, I very much enjoyed the evening out. Sorry to hear your DS2 reacted badly to the injection and that DS1 has chicken pox.

I took DS2 to the clinic on Tuesday and he weighed 10 lbs 9 oz at 5 weeks 5 days, an increase of 1 lb 7 oz in 2 weeks, which is good. He's now right on the 50th centile. I had my 6 week check with the doctor, which I found pretty useless - he didn't even look at my c-section scar. Annoyingly, I forgot to mention the tablets I had been taking for blood pressure and so will have to go back for that.

Bad day yesterday with DS2. I decided to treat myself by going shopping for a few things for DS2, but DS2 was miserable the whole time, despite having fed just before we went out. I even had to spend 20 minutes of my precious 2 hours parking (£6 for 2 hours - that's London for you) giving him a top-up feed. I tried on some trousers for me because I am now desparate for clothes and don't fit into anything but even those 2 sizes bigger didn't fit, so I felt even more fat and unstylish than ever. Anyway, DS2 spent the whole day and night snacking rather than having good feeds, which is just not good.

The hv came to see us yesterday (because we live out in the sticks she comes out to us rather than us going to the clinic). She is fantastic, a lovely person, and brilliant with the dds who were home from school when she arrived. She got them to help her weigh and measure Calum and plot him on the graphs. He is 8weeks +4days now, and weighs 11lb 30z, which puts him on the 25th centile. He is on 50th for length! But my hv is one of those "look at the baby, not the charts" people, and says she is very happy with him.

Just as an aside, for those of you with older children - dd1 has molluscum on her face, and my hv said that the advice of the dermatologist she deals with is to squeeze them once they come to a head, and that it does not spread them. So we squeezed some of dd1's molluscum last night and sure enough they are gone this morning - cue one happy kid!

Ds is getting his injections next Thursday - ohhh, not looking forward to that! He is sleeping really well now , but nowhere near ready to go through the night, will sleep 6 hours at a time max.

Azure, I understand what you mean about the film, I expect to feel that same way about the film, I adored the BBC production, in fact DH bought it for me on DVD when I was on maternity leave before DS1 was born. Maybe I'll wait until it comes out on DVD.

We're off the the in-laws for the weekend, cue frantically packing up the whole house into the boot of the car. Thankfully my parents are having the boys tomorrow so I can pack and have some time to myself as i'm feeling a little overwhelmed. I've had one of those days where they both needed me at the same time, they both needed feeding at the same time, dirty nappies at the same time etc. So tomorrow I'm having some time to myself and I'm going to the gym and for a sauna, bliss. I'll need it to get the post baby lard off, I refuse to buy anything new until I can buy it in a reasonable size, so I'm OK for skirts with a bit of flare, but trousers are off the menu until my thighs shrink a bit, OK until they shrink a lot

Just nipping in quickly while Phoebe's asleep to say hi! Phoebe regained her birth weight as of thursday and is continuing to feed well. Have had a couple of unsettled days due to Phoebe being a bit colicky but seemed to be ok last night and again through today.

We're looking fwd to my parents arriving on Friday, it will be the first time they've seen Phoebe - they were up just prior to her arriving but missed seeing her by a few hours as they had to head back down the road to go on holiday and she was born outwith visiting hours. DH is off at the start of the week which will be great as he's been busy all weekend - Oh while I remember after all the stress, he passed his surgical exam with flying colours !!!

Josey, if you want my contact details feel free to CAT me - shame you were sat in the car, we could have gone for a coffee. Must try and arrange an Aberdeen meet up again sometime. Thinking about maybe getting some infacol to try too Phoebe hasn't been too bad but felt so sorry for her when she was so uncomfortable the last couple of days also seems to be refluxing some of her feed quite often so hoping may help.

twiga thanks had sent cat - i didnt think until i was already on route typical, im likely to be having a few outings to Abderdeen with DHs new job. arranging another meet would be good.
Congrats to Mr Twiga thats impressive knowing you where in hospital
The infacol is really good has really cut back on the sick and helped with the wind, dds face is a picture when she gets it though as its different to milk and has a slight orange flavour the first time she blew a big raspberry after scewing her face up, now it calms her down when she is crying for a feed as she knows its on its way, i have also started massage to the feet which i helping loads, did it last night for 5 mins on each foot and DD bottom burped (will keep it polite)solid for half and hour on her behalf
