Sorry for crashing... Just a quick message for Twiga bit first, congratulations on all of your little ones!

Twiga: Thank you for the lovely message on the other thread! It am certain that it is actuall my turn to send you an email. Life is just very hectic at the moment but I really will get around to it, promise. Glad you are enjoying being a mum.

MiaouTheFamiliar · 04/10/2005 13:52

Hello there....anyone else got a colicky baby? ds is not too bad in the scheme of things, but I would say that about 4 nights out of 7 he is awake and screaming between about 10pm and 2am. Poor little mite. I fully expected it as both my dds had colic. He had a night off last night though - only screamed for about half an hour at around 10pm, then went to sleep. I've asked for advice and read all the books - I'm doing everything right, just need to grin and bear it!

Azure · 04/10/2005 14:10

Hi all. DS2 has been a bit colicky, but not as bad as your DS Miaou. Roll on 12 weeks when these sort of things are meant to have sorted themselves out. I thought I had mastitis on Saturday - I had a sore boob and felt generally awful with flu-like symptoms. I was very close to going to the hospital to get some anti-biotics, but didn't want to disturb the kids. I sent DH out for some ibuprufen in the evening and took that & did some breast massage before going to bed, and the next day I felt normal, thank goodness. This morning I had the first morning of the NCT post-natal support group I signed up to, which was nice - a group of new mums chatting together.

colinandcaitlinsmommy · 04/10/2005 21:10

And here I thought mine was the only colicky one. Actually she's getting much better. I saw your earlier thread, Miaou, and was going to post, but got distracted by the crying baby. I agree with the person who posted about bouncing on the birthing/exercise ball. DH's aunt gave me hers to try, and it has cut down on the crying quite a bit. Although I tend to go overboard sometimes and "dance" while bouncing and sitting on it. I even came up with a few routines.

MiaouTheFamiliar · 05/10/2005 08:47

hehehe - lovely image, c&cm! Unfortunately by the time he is at his worst I am too tired to stand up (and darent, in case I faint), so dancing is a bit out of the question!

Well, he didn't cry at all last night either - I am still treating it as a "night off" from the colic, rather than getting my hopes up that he has finished being colicky - I won't truly relax until he hits three months! Ironically, having had two fairly good nights' sleep, I am now exhausted - can't win, eh?

kate100 · 05/10/2005 11:37

Miaou, you do sound like you're having a rough time. I saw your other thread and agree with the advice there. DS1 had colic and reflux and I thougth I was going mad with the lack of sleep and the noise. If Infacol doesn't work then Colief might, otherwise, it's only a few more weeks until he's 3 months.

DS2 definitely has mine and dh's sleep genes, put him to bed at 7:45 and had to wake him at 8 this morning (creeps off avoiding things thrown ion my direction ) I can't believe what a relaxed baby he is, the only thing that really makes him cry is if he can't find his thumb, which now it's colder and he's got a cardigan or jumper on is a bit of a problem, he ends up sucking his collar.

DS1 has starting walking again and this afternoon his daddy is taking him swimming for a special treat. I'm so relieved I was thinking he'd end up crawling to his first day at school. So I'm havng ds2 for the afternoon and having my hair done. It needs it I wouldn't say it was a hairstyle anymore, more just hair. It grew madly when I was pregnant and now needs taming back into some sort of shape.

MiaouTheFamiliar · 05/10/2005 11:52

It's not that bad Kate, the dds and dh go off to school all day so it's just me and ds, so I slob around on mumsnet and occasionally foray into my neighbour's house , so it's not like I have an exhausting day after an exhausting night! - and he is so delightful and such an easy baby the rest of the time that I can happily put up with it. It really does make a difference that I have been through it twice before though, it's not so distressing.

Glad to hear ds1 is back on his feet now

Twiga · 07/10/2005 15:50

Still trying to catch up with this thread - dd has just woken up and needs fed, so will have to be another time....

Hope everyone is well, we're just in from the hospital where dd was getting her hearing checked - passed just fine - relief as I have a hearing loss in one ear (bones too big and block the cannal) so was a wee bit worried that dd might have too. Things feel like they're getting easier, feeling more confident about what I'm doing and recognising dd's needs quicker/easier - anyway better dash, lol x

blossom2 · 10/10/2005 10:03

hello everyone - how are all babies?? i hope everyone is well.

DD2 is now 3 months old - god how time flies! she's sleeping in a sling at the moment and dont have the heart to take her out. its one of those long peices of fabric that you to wrap around - its surprising comfortable and she feels almost weightless ...

she's also started sleeping from 8pm to 6am with a feed at 11pm!! so we're doing well. has finally started refining her thumb sucking skills and gets it into her mouth most of the time. Very vocal at times and beginning to grab things. Still has terrible wind problems though.

Also started to feed from breast more (did have her on 3 bottles a day for a couple of weeks) and starting to reject bottle - not good.

Dazie · 10/10/2005 10:03

HI hope you are all doing well

I cant believe ds2 is now 7 weeks nearly 8 time has flown by. We now get lots of smiles and gurgly laughs which are very cute! Not much sleep though Im dead jealous kate .

I have a moan today as the dreaded christmas topic has come up with sil who comes to stay at christmas! Usually she out stays her welcome meaning we dont get to do anything with my family or friends or on our own, she has a great time! Well we really dont have room this year with three children and our house is very small but she has told my mum that she will either sleep in ds1 (who is nearly 5) room on the floor or travel to our house each day AAHHHHHHHHHHH!! Its not that we dont like having her here we would just like sometime on our own and to go out and do things on our own without feeling guilty we only get this time once. We have now started to dislke christmas time as we dont want to hurt peoples feelings as last time we tried to tell her she cried. She never invites herself to her brothers house its always us any advice??? MOAN OVER!!

On the colicky front I think ds2 has it in the evenings, a nice warm bath and a massage on the tummy seems to help.

Azure · 10/10/2005 10:16

Hi all, yes time is whizzing by. I'm very of those babies sleeping through at night. I feel we have a long way to go. Dazie, I'm sorry to hear about your SIL situation. I think you're going to have to bite the bullet - or rather, your DH is, assuming she's his sister - and say she isn't invited this year. It may be painful but she has 2+ months to make other arrangements. Oops, baby's woken up - must go.

Dazie · 10/10/2005 10:20

Blossom I cant believe she sleeps for so long and all these babies that are sucking their thumbs why oh why cant ds2 be like this. Ds2 can sleep for quite a while but as the sun comes up he goes into a feeding frenzy I guess its because the milk is better in the morning and weaker at night well thats what the health visitor says. Ds2 is now going into 3-6 month clothes comfortably so he is getting something from it!!

kate100 · 11/10/2005 15:05

DS2 has chickenpox I think I might move into the doctors with my boys. He's OK now, but he was very grumpy for the few days before the spots came out. I thought we'd got away with it, but the spots came out exactly 2 weeks after ds1 got his last spot, so he must have caught it just as he was becoming less contagious. So we're stuck in the house again. Never mind taking the opportunity to give the house a really good clean and bake the christmas cake, which can be nice and boozy this year as I'm not pregnant I love christmas and it's so special with a new baby, no that we have a clue what to get ds2 as he doesn't need a thing as he's had all of ds1's things. Any ideas gratefully received.

Dazie · 11/10/2005 19:01

Oh no kate!! So sorry to hear about ds2 getting the pox! I know exactly how you feel this happened to my dd and ds1 at christmas, at least ds1 had lots of new toys to keep him occupied.

Ds2 had his first lot of injections today he did cry a little which broke my heart, I still cant believe its both little legs . The doctor said ds2 was a healthy size for eight weeks he weighed in at 13 pounds 3oz he is on the 91st centile for weight and 98th for length.

blossom2 · 11/10/2005 20:44

oh Dazie ... i felt exactly the same as you when DD2 was the same age and then it all started to get better after 10 weeks . the 11pm feed is also a bottle of formula, and i expressed at 10.30pm.

So sorry that yr baby caught chickenpox Kate. Poor thing. hope you're all coping okay. i was in similar situation with DH catching it and then DD1 getting it when she was 4 months. let us know if there is anything we can do.

my little man had his jabs last thursday and has been awful until today.........i'm so glad to have my happy little fella back. he didn't sleep properly for two days but then when he did he did a 7 hour stretch, which has turned out to be the best nights sleep yet, and he did the same last night too so maybe (fingers crossed)we are turning a corner.

have decided not to start trying to establish any kind of routine till after the clocks go back......feel like we will be making it harder work for ourselves otherwise.

emotionally have been a bit up and down.....some days i feel like i'm not doing as well at motherhood as i thought i would.....i had this feeling that it would be the thing i excelled at in life and i probably had too high expectations of myself.

blossom2 · 11/10/2005 21:05

Oh moschops ... you're doing fantastically and i've not doubt you are excelling at it. You're just tired and its hard with your first...

i remember having high expectations of myself with DD1 and it took me time to realise that all they need is love and a happy home ... the rest just kind of happens IMHO

Hi Guys - I do lurk here often but rarely post! Hope everyone is well. Quick question about development... Logan is almost 10 wks old and shows no sign of arm control (swiping at toys) or no sign of rolling over. He's really strong in his neck & back though. Is this normal? I shouldn't read baby books - it makes me paranoid!

moschops · 12/10/2005 20:20

hi suzi.....my ds will be ten weeks on Friday......he flails his arms about but has no amount of control over them at all.....he gets quite frustrated as he can see the toys on his playmat but hasn't quite figured out how to get his arm in that direction....and he has made no attempt at all to roll over.

i've deliberately avoided all parenting/development books and literature because i think it soon will become obvious if ds has any developmental problems to worry about.

had a tough day today, think ds is having another growth spurt as he's wailed all afternoon for what appears to be no good reason......after him being unsettled after his jabs i'm worn out and this afternoon was a real test!!

Blossom........thankyou for your words of encouragement. i know i'll be a good mum, i think one thing is that i've been pleasantly surprised at just how brilliant a dad dp is......i kind of feel inadequate sometimes, he has the ability to talk absolute rubbish to ds whereas i sit in silence with him trying to think of things to say. today i discovered singing the abc song gets guaranteed giggles so i'll be singing that alot over the next few months!

had ds weighed today and he is now 12lb 4oz............

suzi2 · 12/10/2005 20:27

Hi moschops - glad to know he's 'normal'! Logan has days of screaming too - I reckon it's when he has too many conflicting thoughts about what to do! in fact, we've had a weird couple of days - hardly any feeding and sleeping but loads of awake 'interested in everything' time. But now he's shattered and probably hungry - but still too interested in everything! It must be hard to sleep when the worlds so new and exciting!

colinandcaitlinsmommy · 12/10/2005 21:13

Hi all. It has been a long few weeks, still fighting a cold here. Caitlin has many good days, but some she just cries quite a bit in the evening. I was excited she managed to sleep until 4 last night and wake up for a few minutes, and then sleep until 8:15ish. If only Colin would sleep past 6.

I love the smiles and coos we've been getting. Colin gets the majority of them.

Hopefully in-laws will watch the kids this weekend. I want to go do something "normal" without having to look after anyone.

Azure · 14/10/2005 10:47

Why can't I have a baby who sleeps well at night??? DS2 has been a little disturbed since his jabs on Tuesday and last night was just awful - I think I got 2 hours sleep in total. He's asleep now, of course. Oh well, it gives me a chance to pack for going on holiday to Spain tomorrow. We have a 7.55am flight from Heathrow - wish me luck, because I'm going to need it.

On a lighter note, I'm becoming very good at doing things with one hand (baby in other, sometimes attached to my breast), even cooking whole meals. Buttering bread and grating cheese are still proving tricky, however.

kate100 · 15/10/2005 16:11

Azure, I really feel for you. DS1 was a terrible sleeper and then all of a sudden at nine weeks he started to sleep through. It was literally an overnight change. Maybe this will happen for you too, fingers crossed

DS2 is over the worst of the chickenpox. He hasn't had anynew spots since wednesday, on tuesday it felt as if everytime I looked at him there were new spots. Strangely most of them have been on his head which means they are taking longer to heal as he's always lying on them. Also some of them got infected from him always being sick on them and rubbing at them, but they've cleared up well now. He has been ever so good about the whole thing and I think been less ill and grumpy than ds1.

Hope you're all keeping well, can you believe how fats these babies are growing?!

Miaou · 15/10/2005 16:39

Hello all. Ds is growing fast - we transferred him from moses basket to cot today - he has had a couple of daytime sleeps in it and seems to have adjusted with no problems. He went through a phase last week of sleeping through, but has gone back to two feeds during the night this week! Thankfully though the colic is over, and the lack of sleep isn't causing me any major problems. He is about 11.5 pounds now! There is a piccy of me and him in this thread - he looks a lot like dd1 at this age.
