Hello folks, thought I'd better join in this thread now! For anyone who missed all the drama,
here is the link for what happened!

Anyway dh and I are now the proud parents of Calum Lewis, who was 8lbs and born on Monday 1st August at 2.15am. I had a fab waterbirth, slight complication with a reluctant placenta which necessitated me being transferred to the city hospital 2 hours away (!) - however it was removed with no problems so I was able to come back to Fort William and stay overnight at the fabulous Belford Hospital again.

Now back at home looking forward (?) to our second night with Calum - he is rather nocturnal at the moment and seems quite happy to sleep most of the day and feed for most of the night! I hope he gets through this phase quickly.

Hope to see this thread filling up soon! Congratulations to all those who were here before me and all the best to those waiting to join in!

Miaou - popping onto say congrats as I couldn't find a birth annoucement thread for you. Your birth sounds wonderful. How are your other children?

Paul is doing really well - 6 days old now and the midwife was in today - he's not only reached his birthweight but has surpassed it already. He weighed 3280g at birth and now weighs 3360g. So very pleased

He had a tiny bit of jaudice but the weather has been lovely and sunny so its cleared up. Had another relaxing day sitting at the harbour with a drink while the older kids played in the sand.

I will try to pop in here as much as possible but its hard going keeping up with 2 threads and as Paul came on time he never made it to an August baby.

Hope everyone else is doing fine

Blossom2 I definitely see Ben as an August baby too. I think because my first date was in August and really does become the focus of your attention.

Must go baby hiccupping like a mad thing, and DS1 trying to comfort him, not very successfully.

Hi everyone. Just a quick post because ds is stirring and I haven't got the hang of breastfeeding and posting yet (although I can lurk and feed ).

Ds is doing really well - the marathon feeds are beginning to slow down now and today he has had three sessions of sleeping for over two hours. I however am not recovering as fast as I hoped (although my midwife tells me I am impatient!). I was very fit before the birth and find it hard atm as I can't walk more than about 400yards so I am stuck in the house, or just taking a short walk down the road. I still feel like I've been kicked between the legs and my tummy is very tender. It's frustrating because I know that a week after having dd1 I was walking a mile or more, and I had had stitches! Anyone else feeling like this a week after birth?

Report
kate100 · 08/08/2005 14:30

Miaou, I'm frustrated too. because of the spd I've lost all my fitness levels and although I now feel better physically, my body just won't co-operate and walk as far as I want it too. Feel like an old lady, hopefully will be back to 5 mile walks soon

DS2 being avery good baby and only woke twice last night at 2 and 5, the advantage of a big baby is that they do sleep for longer, but need lots of filling up, i'm just about managing to keep up with him.

Miaou · 08/08/2005 18:29

Ahem, I'm still measuring the length of ds's sleeps, rather than when he wakes - I am a constant feeding machine!! Yesterday he slept from 5.30 to 9.30pm, then fed constantly until 3.30am!! I was hallucinating by the time he went to sleep, I was so tired!!

Roll on the regular sleep patterns....

It's happened, I have given birth to an angel baby!! He only woke once last night at 3:30, fed until 5 and then slept until we all got up at 7:30!! How has this happened? I'm sure it won't last. It's just such a shock as DS1 was such a poor sleeper and woke every 1-2 hours all the time until he was about 10 weeks. DS2 is also a much better feeder, DS1 was a sipper not a sucker, not a problem my new little chap has. Very happy mummy this morning.
I can't believe how much better I feel at this stage, than I did with DS1. At this point last time DH was about to go back to work and panic was setting in,this time I feel OK. I know it will be hard with 2, but I'm not dreading it. Hopefully no PND this time, fingers crossed.

hiya there ... DD2 seesm to be sleeping all the time - during the day! she's like clockwork. can only stay awake for 1.5hrs after sleep and will sleep for 1.5-2hrs each time.

unfortunately she then seems to stay awake in the evenings from 7-10pm and wakes once or twice a night (anytime from 2-4am and then at 6am)... so not sure what i'm doing....

just discovered that caffeine makes her poo lots!!
DD1 is coping well with the new arrival and very proud of her- lots of kisses & cuddles. although we seem to to be having lots moree 'don't do this/that' and 'no' days..... hopefully things will get better ...

Hi seems as though everyone is very busy with their little ones!!

Max was born on monday the 15th so I have now graduated over to the postnatal thread.

We are all doing well. Breastfeeding is ok but I am sore we are currently trying to convince the doctor that lansinoh cream is now available on prescription according to their web site, I am not keen on spending £10 on a tube of cream that wont get used up as I only used a little last time.

I am glad the wait is over !!!

Another graduate here. Benjamin Thomas was born by c-section at 9.45am on August 18th at 6 lbs 15 oz. Feeding is going ok with regard to latching on and my milk has started to come in; however, feeds only seem to be lasting about 20 minutes before he falls asleep. He then wakes up an hour or so later and wants another snack. This is particularly the case at night, when I'm not getting more than 1.5 hours of sleep at a time and it really just seems like one long feeding session. I hope it settles into a better pattern soon.

finally made it on here! Ds3 2 weeks today.

he has been really bad with his stomach. he seems in pain with wind and yells for about an hour before he poos!!

he feeds well then you sit him up and he burps. put him down to sleep and 5 mins later he starts screeming. try everything and eventually resort to another feed and the cycle repeats itselve over and over for hours!!
He is starting to space out his feeds during the night though and does do a 3 hr stretch at some point. problem is it is usually after he has been feeding and screeming for hours. fed and screemed from 9pm till 2 am the other night!

well hope everyone is managing to get some sleep!

Hello everyone, and welcome and congratulations to all the recent graduates!! Sorry if I've missed your birth announcement threads.

Ds and I are having breastfeeding fun too. Hence why I am up at this time of night! Thank god for dh not working, he is looking after the dds and the house so I can just concentrate on ds, so we are sleeping in sync atm. We slept from 7pm to 10pm this evening, so we are both wide awake just now!

Got over the painful bit now and am starting to enjoy feeding him. He has lots of wakeful periods now, and really smiles with his eyes - when I take him into the bathroom for his bath his eyes light up - he loves the bath!

No screaming/wind problems, lots of hiccups though (which keep him entertained for ages ) - waiting for the colic to kick in!

It will be nice when we get into better feeding patterns so I can spend more time with the dds and be more sociable, but things are going ok generally.

OK, will stop waffling now ....

KMS, sorry to hear about DS3's tummy, poor thing. My midwife suggested Infacol for wind - it could be worth giving it a go. I too am looking forward to the feeding calming down and not being quite so painful. Despite my best efforts on latching, my nipples are very sore and a little cracked, and I've used nipple shields once or twice. I'm using Kamillosan (sp?) at the moment, but the midwife didn't seem that impressed with the cream, so I must try to get to a chemists to try something else. We went out for our first trip as a family today (despite the horrific weather). DH took DS1 swimming while I watched with DS2 and then we went to a restaurant for lunch. We had last gone to the restaurant 1.5 weeks ago when I was very pregnant, and it seemed strange to be going back so soon with a baby. I felt rather tired and achy afterwards though, even though I hadn't actually been doing much.

kate100 · 24/08/2005 20:42

Hope everyones feeding problems settle down soon, the infacol definitely helps with the wind, DS2 can now burp brilliantly. Feeling very perky today as baba only woke once at 2 last night and then went back to sleep until 6. So I actually had more sleep last night than DH, who stayed up watching tv.

Ventured out to baby clinic this morning and DS2 weighs a very healthy 11lb 2oz!! Couldn't believe it, he's obviosly thriving.

DS1 is also settling down now and is not waking in the night in pain. He's also learned to shuffle around on his bottom, he looks very funny and keeps telling everyone about his 'blue leg'.

thought it was about time i joined this thread.....

after originally being on the August ante natal i then moved to Sept when my dates changed...then my impatient little man appeared 4 weeks early on the 5th August.

every day is a challenge and dp has now gone back to work so am getting used to being on my own with Lemmy. it's quite scary being responsible for this little bundle......it's still sinking in that i am now someones mummy!

Well things have settled down here now which is good, dd is now a bit more accepting of her little brother. Ds is starting school in a weeks time so is a bit hyper which does make things a little difficult.

Feeding is going well, was sore for about a week but now you can get lansinoh cream on prescription (usually £10) things got better quickly.

After weeks of looking on the internet and in shops we have settled on a buggy dh wanted a three wheeler but I had to remind him of who was using it and the fact none of them would fit through our gate or front door! We bought a duo lite mothercare double buggy made by greco and it has really high ratings on this site so we were pleased.

Well I hope you are all doing well and welcome to moschops congratulations!!
