Morning Tink

That's so lovely hatching ducklings at school. Will the school keep them as pets or do they go off to the city farm or somewhere?

I have gone and fallen in love with the black embroidered Ergo, which is more expensive than the plain ones - typical! There are a couple of them coming up on ebay from the USA though for £76.00 plus postage.

mm - there is now a black duckling 2!! even cuter

they have the duckling in a cage with a lamp in the classroon and the eggs in an icubator there are about 7 left to hatch some r wobbling

teaandcakeplease · 23/03/2010 18:50

Florence is cute. Not sure about Woody either.

I like old fashioned names though like Harriet, Evelyn etc...

moosemama · 23/03/2010 19:12

Books embroidered ergo here

Am in the process of talking dh into it. He insisted we didn't need one as the Karrimor is really good and we can both wear it comfortably. I then pointed out that we wanted to go to gigs late into the night at the festy, where not only would he keep bashing everyone with the Karrimor, dd would not be able to sleep without falling foward with her head flopping about. I would like to carry her close to me, so that we can enjoy the music and she can sleep. He is now wibbly about it, but did say I had a point. I will win though.

Dog, I really like the name Florence, but am not so keen on Woody. I'm also quite fond of Seren (means star in Welsh) and Estelle (which coincidentally also means star) for a girl. Ds1 has an Esther in his class, which I think is a lovely name. Boys names I always struggle with. I'm quite fond of Oscar, but its getting quite popular now. My boys both have traditional names. My other favourite for a boy was always Dillon but dh didn't like it, so it wasn't to be.

Tink, a black duckling, I bet that was even more exciting if they were all expecting little yellow fluffies.

PatTheHammer · 23/03/2010 20:14

Watching Glee so back later:

Dog- I like Florence, it is getting quite popular now, and at my school there are a couple shortened to 'Flossie' which I'm not so keen on. My friend has recently had a Flora. I love Esther too, I really liked Verity and Miriam when carrying DS.

Boys names are harder, woody sounds a bit rude to me I met a Corbin the other day and I really thought at first, then I really liked it! I like biblical boys names (unsurprisingly!) although Noah and Isaac seem, realllllly common round here now.

Hope you feel better soon and your DD gets better. Mine has just got worse today if thats possible!!

Tea- I have an Evelyn!!

back soon........

hackneyzoo · 23/03/2010 21:00

Book marking...

Dog..I know two florences...one is a flo and one a flossie, I think I orefer Flo to Flossie, its a nice name. I like Woody too.

Have to get proposal in for MA study...missed deadline...eek...have no spare time this week to even think, roll on school hols.

Evening all hope all is well...oh and DS has started standing an dpulling himself up, which he hasn't done yet due to the weakness in his arm, so am very over excited!

missjackson · 23/03/2010 21:24

LOL at pat's rude woody - that's really made me laugh. Just quick read-through but must get back to 'one born every minute' - tiny little babies in neonatal making me cry...

ps pat finished child in time - had to actually sit and cry for 5 minutes afterwards. DH thought I had gone mad. Too, too much.

teaandcakeplease · 23/03/2010 22:11

Pat - my DD has it as part of her middle name. It's lovely! A family name for us.

Enjoyed reading everything on here today but seem to have retained little of what was said

HKZ - I'm highly impressed at your MA and with LO's to care for and a shed load on your plate!

My brain has turned to mush since children Off to bed to try and help this mushy brain recover...

Lenni · 23/03/2010 23:49

HKZ - Welcome to the world of missed deadlines, much flapping and even less sleep! Can promise it is worth it, that is said whilst leant on an inch thick wad of papers I've got to read before tomorrow and it's already 11.40pm. Babies are both coughing and DH vomitting. I can see is going to be a restful night ahead Great news about J standing, feel so happy for you atm, everytime I read your posts I sit and grin.

I heart my ergo. I want another one we use it so much for both babies. DD is about 15kg atm (she lost 3kg with swine flu at Christmas and still regaining) so pretty heavy but I can carry her for a good hour or two without any trouble. DS can stay in there all day if he wants he adores the Ergo. Mine is black and burgundy, and lovely, did I say it was lovely?? Get one Moose, you would not regret it. So much nicer than the frame carriers. I have far too many slings etc. but the two I couldn't be without are my ergo and now redundant Moby. I have a storchie wrap too which is fab, and a toddlerhawk (mei tai style carrier, bigger version of babyhawk) which is also good, but not a patch on the ergo.

I like Florence too Dog. Not sure on Woody, I know only one who is a Hell's Angel, and tbh he's a bit of a knob

Apologies for foul language

Can't think of any names now but have loads I like. You know all our alternatives I think?? I cringe at some of them now but...

Boys: Nate (short for Nathaniel but would have just been Nate), Jonah, oh there were more, I forget...

Girls: Lily (I am still after my Lily), Gwen, brain melted. Will think again later, I like short names it seems! Nothing above 5 characters!

Best get back to work.

Pat - Z sounds so gorgeous, can't wait to see him again.

Tea - Very belated response to your wobbles but please feel very welcome, is so lovely to have someone new join us.

Sorry to be such a terrible part timer.

so much chat. where to start. bookmarking.

moosemama · 24/03/2010 21:09

Gosh, its quiet on here today.

Have just landed on the sofa for the first time today. Am knackered.

Went to see ds1 in his school musical this afternoon. It was very good, despite half the main characters either being off sick or coughing up a lung on stage. Poor things dragged themselves in because they didn't want to let anyone down. Ds looked so cute in his skeleton costume. Afterwards I waited outside his class for ten minutes before his teacher noticed and reminded me he'd actually gone to chess club - doh!

Lenni, hope your night wasn't too bad last night. Sorry to hear your family is poorly. we seem to finally have come out the other side of it all now.

I am sorely tempted by an Ergo, but am a bit at the price, so decided to have a go with my trusty Moby today and see what its like. Dd was desperate for me to put her in it despite the fact I don't think we've used it since she was about 9 months old. I had her in the hug hold down to collect ds1 after chess and it was absolutely fine. She is still only around 19lbs so not too heavy, hardly felt any weight at all. Also had a go with getting her on my back. She loved it and was giggling away finding it all hilarious, but I struggled to get it tight enough and felt she was pulling me backwards. I still have the striped linen weave fabric I bought last year and thought I might have a go getting her on my back using that first as the Moby has too much stretch for a decent back carry imho. If I can't get a decent back carry position sorted, there's nothing else for it, I will just have to buy an Ergo.

HKZ, lovely news about J pulling himself up.

Right, dh has just gone to the corner shop for much needed Galaxy rations (PMT). So am off to make a cuppa before he gets back.

chefswife · 25/03/2010 05:57

I love the name Lily, but as we already have a Violet, I don't want to start a flower theme with my kids names... lol

Books Hilarious... why is it Wednesday?! That's too funny. Violet is doing the 'what's that' in the way she does and already it crazy. lol

The running sounds far more impressive than it really is. I still have to haul ass to keep myself going. I think I do it just to have a hot tub after. It really helps me escape though and rejuvenate. I hurt my achilles tendon and took a few days off and then a few more because of not being able to get out and then I started to feel like I was melting down, slowly. Its getting a little addicting but in a good way. I do this yoga before going to bed. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZopL5-P8zgs&feature=related She has other ones too and they're only 10 minutes long. Its just long enough to chill out and get to bed with nice energy. I go to the rec centre in the mornings and man, I gotta fight off some of these old gals sometimes... they're hawks on the time limit on the treadmills... its only 20 minutes if someone is waiting. I crank my music and stare straight out; they ignore my know though, but its still irritating to see them pacing behind you in the reflection of the window.

We test drove our Corolla today and we should have our new car mid April... we wanted a manual so its a special order for the island... hardly anyone drives standard on the rock. People want 8 cylinder cars with a automatic transmission... what the heck is the point? Its so much fun driving standard. I get zoned out driving an automatic. Anyhow, we are very excited.

chefswife · 25/03/2010 05:59

Suppose to be 'they ignore me now though'. Its late for me. lol

missjackson · 25/03/2010 08:19

Loving the name chat - I always find it so fascinating to see what people call their kids. It's such a huge decision. Our shortlist during pregnancy was: Tomas, Maddoc (another weird welsh one), Walt. Gosh they all look so strange now! What was I thinking?! For a girl (was never going to happen)- Marlena. Now I love Taliesin (tally-ess-in), it's another old welsh name and I totally adore it, they could be Tali for short. It's a boy's name btw! OH is not sure as it's a bitch to spell- but that makes it all fair . For a girl, don't laugh - Isis. After the Dylan song. So that's all sorted But anyway, back to dog's choices - I love Florence too but it is quite trendy atm. I think you need to get ahead of the curve... what about India as you thought for Isla?

MM ergos are expensive I agree, but with DD being so teeny weeny, you will get years of use out of it. Also agree that moby was too stretchy for back carry for me. Although my didymos is lovely for that. The ace thing about the ergo is that it takes soooo much of their weight onto your hips, especially if you yank it super tight.

chef running sounds great - riding is the same for me re getting some headspace. There's just this lovely sense of being removed from everything when you set off and away from home. New car sounds fun.

Lenni hope you had an okay night. Sounds like you are super busy. We miss you!

Hoping for news of SIL - she was going in to be induced yesterday afternoon as waters broke on Monday but no labour... does induction always take forever? Am super excited.

teaandcakeplease · 25/03/2010 09:09

I know quite a few people that induction took ages for Hope you hear today.

Off swimming with LO's this morning.

tinkstoddleriswalking · 25/03/2010 09:28

morning

having a quiet day here today

missjackson · 25/03/2010 09:50

Gosh tea you are brave swimming with two. We must start our swimming up again. Always seems like a good excuse reason not to go, sickness etc. Have fun

teaandcakeplease · 25/03/2010 10:04

Well they both have one of these so they float happily. My DD won't let me help her anymore!

My hubby is coming too today, so it should be fun. He's still struggling to find a job since being made redundant so we might as well make use of this time of him not working. Just a shame we're not living together due to marriage troubles.

Just about to leave now DS has woken.

moosemama · 25/03/2010 10:21

Hi MissJ. Think I am losing the Ergo battle with dh. To be fair, our Karrimore frame carrier is really comfortable to wear. It has a similar cuff style waistband as the Ergo so is really good at distribution their weight across the hips. We carried ds1 in it when he was 4. It also has an interchangeable sunshade and rain cover and has the advantage of being an adhoc seat for her on picnics etc, which is useful for keeping her in one place until we've finished eating. Dh isn't keen on the sleeping hood on the Ergo. I know what he means, it does look a bit odd. To be honest, dd is still so happy and comfy in the front carry in the Moby (took her to the school and the shops in it this morning) I think that might be our best solution for the late night music at the festy, with the Karrimor reserved for daytime wanderings and picnics etc. I will keep working on him though because I really want an Ergo as well. Money is the main issue really as we have paid for the boys party stuff this month in preparation for next month when we will have to buy their presents. That's the problem with having two birthdays in the same month.

No, inductions don't always take forever, but I think they are usually pretty drawn out with a first baby. My induced labour with dd was only an hour an a half long from not dilating at all to baby arriving on the bed rocket stylee.

Morning Tea and Tink. I don't do swimming. Haven't braved a swimsuit since I was seventeen! Dh takes them to one of the the gyms his BIL is the regional director. He has to go with his sister as a guest though, as despite being RD he can't get us preferential rates. Really need to do something about teaching both boys to swim though, as ds1 will be going with the school next year and needs to be able to do a bit. Unfortunately he seriously hates water on his face and both boys are hopelessly uncoordinated (we think they both have some degree of dyspraxia and are currently awaiting ds1's assessment for it). We were recommended a super teacher who teaches one to one in her own pool, but she has an 18 month waiting list! Have a feeling dd with love the water, she really loves having water poured over her head in the bath and fortunately doesn't seem afflicted by the same lack of coordination as her brothers.

Not much news here, had to go to the school and ask to see ds1's teacher before school, as his old nemesis has started picking on him again (interesting it has happened while the headmaster is away). Unfortunately it was his old teacher this morning, rather than the supply teacher he's had all year and lets just say I didn't get the impression she is going to be proactive. I pointed out that the boy in question has had to be dealt with by the head before for bullying ds and we were told to report it immediately if it started again, but she seemed to just pick up on the fact that he'd been pushing ds around while they were getting changed for the musical and just suggested he gets changed in the other room. I had to be quite firm with her and point out that the head had asked to be informed straight away if these bullies started on ds again. She's such a drip, I wasn't exactly filled with confidence. I also got the distinct impression that she hadn't been brought up to speed on the history. Grr!

Am going to have a quiet day, fret about ds1, order the shopping online and try to finish typing the Secret Agent Training Manual.

teaandcakeplease · 25/03/2010 14:32

Well I wouldn't call it swimming Moose, as its a shallow teaching pool, so the kids splash about and we follow them on foot It was fun.

Just booked to stay here in May. As I love camping. Very excited.

Sorry that teacher sounded so drippy. Is the supply one back soon?
