Dog, not surprised you're tired. I forgot all about One Born Every Minute, and it doesn't seem to be on replay. Ah well...

Lenni · 03/03/2010 23:14

Elkie, will be thinking of you and your Mum. It must be frightening, here for you if you need us. A day at a time as they say... Hugs.

hackneyzoo · 03/03/2010 23:15

Elki, sorry your Mum had not so great news. it sounds like things are happening though. maybe your Mum was jsut using 'fighting chance' as a turn of phrase, she sounds like she's being positive, which is good news, she sounds like she is strong. 120 has lent me a great book on eating for immunity. I also have a book about diet and cancer that is at my fathers house. I would be happy for you to have it and can get it next time I am back if you think your mum would find it helpful. It is aimed at adults who have cancer and looks at how to boost your body's resources through diet and super foods and all that sort of thing.
Sounds like you have good support from the children's centre. I have found Macmillain to be an amazing organisation when it comes to helping patients and families dealing with cancer too, I couldn't recommend getting in touch with them enough.
Lots of love being sent your way.

Tried to read whilst trying not to vomit (insert blush) but too hard. Too old(read haggard) for this! Night all

120 · 04/03/2010 07:39

Lenni hope you are feeling ok this morning!

Elkie, really sorry to hear about your mum.

120 · 04/03/2010 07:59

oh and, irony of ironies; I slept so well yesterday and the sunrise was so beautiful, I leapt out of bed... and stubbed my toe so hard I think I've broken it. All sorts of purple and swollen today. Hmm. what to do? It's the fourth one. Do I just strap it to number 3?

tinkstoddleriswalking · 04/03/2010 09:05

moosemama · 04/03/2010 12:10

Hi, just popping in, have scanned but not read properly.

Elkie, sorry to hear your Mum's news. As someone else said, its good that she's being positive. A positive mindset can be a powerful thing in fighting illness. Thinking of you, please come and rant/cry/whatever you need as often as you need to, we are all here to support you. ((hugs))

HKZ I will definitely be back to offer up some ideas on recall training when things have improved round here.

120, in answer to your question, yes I'm still poorly. Dh had to rush home from work yesterday as I was so poorly I couldn't lift my head and wasn't coping with a very energetic and inquisitive dd. When he went to fetch the boys from school the teacher said she had held ds1 back from going to chess club as he had been quite poorly all afternoon, found out later he'd been ill all day and they didn't bother to call me. . So dh took him for an emergency appointment at the GP and they said they think its Scarlet Fever! He's had it before and its rare to get it more than once. GP seemed to think I've probably got it as well and said I should go in for abs if its not gone in the next day or so, but I can only have erythromycin and that makes me so ill I end up in worse pain with my stomach than I was with the initial illness.

I was quite surprised, as I thought you had to have the rash for Scarlet Fever to be diagnosed, but apparently in some rare cases it can present atypically without the rash, it depends on which toxins are involved apparently. To be honest, I'm not convinced I have it, I think mine is just a bad case of strep throat that's spread to my ears and sinuses, ds1 however has a horrible swollen, spotty strawberry tongue (I asked about it on here a couple of weeks back, it seemed to improve then got a lot worse).

Ds is about the stage I was a couple of days back, throat so swollen he can't breathe or swallow properly and keeps getting distressed, particularly at night. So he's on a cocktail of calpol, calprofen, penicillin, vitamin syrup, echinacea and probiotics and will be home for at least the next 5 days. We are currently snuggled up on the sofa together while dd trashes the place plays with her toys on the floor.

Anyway, enough whingeing about my lurgy filled household.

Apologies to those I've missed.

mm - poor u and your lot not more ill!!

hi books

120 · 04/03/2010 19:16

oh no books. what does your dh do that makes him work such long hours and overseas too? (apologies you have told me but my brain is like a sieve!).

120 · 04/03/2010 20:07

ah. sleeping babies, can read a bit more of the thread. Moose, that is truly awful. How long does SF last? I can't believe you are still sick; mine lasted 10 days and that was hideous, can't imagine how awful it is for you. Thank God I am getting better now as start back to work on monday after 15 months off. bugger. bum. poo. tits. wank. . Don't suppose I can have time off for a broken toe.

PatTheHammer · 04/03/2010 20:23

120.............swearing? and an emoticon............sounds like work bothering you muchly (on the plus side don't forget to pop by for a brew if you are in the region in the near future).
How is your toe? could you get more time off on the grounds that it is broken

moose- boo-hiss for illnesses

books-how is the cake? crappy about Italy, doubly bad as Italy is so fantastico, I would be very.

HZ- love the sofa, its funny you do sound very energetic in that post. Would you like to come and do my marking/cleaning etc. I am such a slattern recently.

Elkie-sorry about your mum's news, sounds so unfair. Glad you have people you can talk to. sending lots of hugs.

Dog- Has the strange abductions thing died down yet or is it still paranoia city? So worrying. FWIW we only pass on warnings etc that have come directly from the police at school.

Waves to Tink/MissJ/Stripey and everyone else

Spent most of the day being a taxi for DH today as car in for MOT. DS had a nice playdate with a baby round the corner this morning and then the DC's played in the garden (for the first time since we have moved here) after lunch. It was lovely out there and Z loves the tunnel/trikes and sandpit Had tea at Waitrose cafe today whilst waiting for DH, their nappy changing bit was ATROCIOUS. They have a thing or two to learn from the local sainsburys which is wonderful ad supplies free nappies and wipes...................and I told them so!

Lenni · 04/03/2010 21:22

Quick stop again, still got sicky bug (plus minor hangover) and not yet finished my funding application. Feeling a bit overwhelmed atm.

Moose - hope you are feeling better soon. Sounds rubbish.

Books - Grrr at DH going away again. Mine is away yet again this weekend, having been away two nights this week and away last weekend, the kids have barely seen him. DD is driving me batty asking for him all the time whenever I say no to her or there is any kind of persuasion required for anything. I am having to seriously bite my tongue to avoid telling her that Daddy has buggered off gone away again and maybe she should stick with the parent who bothers to actually do any parenting. Grrr, Grrrr, Grrr.

120 - Good luck with work, that is a major event. A lovely 15 months though.

elkiedee · 05/03/2010 00:11

Eek at Moose, hope you make a quick recovery.

missjackson · 05/03/2010 10:11

Hi everyone....

elkie sorry to hear about your Mum - I know it's not good news, and it must be hard to stay positive for her. Sending you and your family lots of hugs.

120 ouch for toe.... and at all the swearing. I am making your brownies tonight or possibly tomorrow, and will compare with the Slater! Just finished the last one for breakfast... what a pig I am.

hkz that is a seriously lush sofa. You know, I spent a lot of money on 2 massive sofas in the jan 09 sale - yes, when I was 9 months pregnant - and now sort of don't like them.... I wish someone had told me, don't buy anything major when you are 9 months pregnant . So am having serious sofa envy

pat yey for playing in the garden! N has been out in ours too... first time I nearly lost him, as I was happily pulling the weeds out of my pots, and turned back to see him heading out of our gate and onto the lane - had to do classic mummy running and screaming act. Now have closed gates. And last night when DH got home, he said 'why is there blood on the tonka truck?' which N had been playing with outside ...

lenni application thing sounds like a flipping phd in itself! Not easy I imagine combined with vom, absent DH, and 2 DCs....

books grrrr at Italy - I have forgotton what your DP does now, and am intrigued... sounds a lot more glam than staying at home with the kids in any case.

MM hope you all start to feel better soon.

Sorry for lack of proper catch up... brain like a sieve. Am knackered. Gorgeous day here, frosty and blue-skyed....

tinkstoddleriswalking · 05/03/2010 10:22

morning

dd1 off with a cough she was up all night bless her and looks pale

120 · 05/03/2010 11:49

enjoyed the swearing! think toe is just bruised... hurts when I twist it but not when I walk... so am not twisting it!

mj good luck with the brownies. I now swap out 10g of the cocoa for 10g of green and blacks drinking chocolate, if I have it (found that out when I ran out of cocoa), but you don't have to. am v nervous about going up against mr slater, but need to have extra stars for ease of method please!!

Photo! Photo! Photo! I did an m'net haircut which I showed to HZ about 10 months ago. She was very polite! I didn't bother to feather the front though. My hairdresser was very impressed how even I cut it (didn't tell him about the ponytail bit). Was very happy with mine! Impressed you listen when your DH talks. I try but somehow end up not listening.

off out tonight! woohoo!

hackneyzoo · 05/03/2010 20:14

MissJ, am glad I am not the only one who eats chocolate based products for breakfast

Lenni, hope you're feeling better, sorry you are feleing overwhelmed, I am a bit too an dI only have to put in a proposition for a school based study. Just had a day at uni and am at the lecture on academic writing...I have forgotton it all.

We are off to a friends wedding tomorrow....so am looking forward to that and a DC free evening...not looking forward to having to get up on a sunday morning with a hangover though!
