I'm embarrassed to say it but if I get his tonsils removed, I'm going to have to do that privately, too I know it's not the right thing to do, but after my experience in our local NHS hospital giving birth... I would prefer he go to parkside in wimbledon or new victoria in kingston. My insurance will cover that. For my own tonsils to be removed, I'd go to the nhs hospital again, but not for Q.

50ftQueenie · 03/03/2010 20:21

Oh good news that something is being done Ronshar. M actually had the hib/MenC today but is having the MMR next month.... as is DS! He cried for about 10 mins when I told him. M is going to have hers first so he can see how tough she is and hopefully it will shame him into silence! M is hard as nails though, like her mummy! You know, I booked that appointment on the Tuesday after family Myjob had gone home. I am so good at doing as I am told.

Star - Poor Q. I think he's had more than his fair share of infections and should stop being so greedy. Hope the new abs work quickly and completely.

oh I missed your prev post ronshar. Hooray that something will be done!

50ft - I had an interesting conversation with my class about injections a few months ago. About 90% of the class said they would want to know about a jab on the car ride to the dr or the morning of the jab so they didn't have to worry about it for days and "lay awake worrying about it at night" (one child's words ). Only a few kids (girls) said they would want to know well in advance so they knew when it was coming. I guess I should have shared that earlier.

We're going to need a new thread soon. We've been rubbish at chatting on this one. It's taken AGES to fill up.

Really don't be Star. It is the right thing to do because you feel it's the right thing for Q. My experience of the NHS is much more positive so I wouldn't have a problem. A tonsillectomy isn't pleasant but the younger it is done the less painful it is. I had mine removed when I was 18. Hmm..... I am a bit like Trigger's broom, hardly any original pieces left!

OP posts:
StarExpat · 03/03/2010 20:31

damn it. sorry

StarExpat · 03/03/2010 20:33

Can we take off Q's name on the new thread, please? I know I'm a total PITA but just started worrying if someone found out I'm on MN then searched for Q's name... I know it's public...etc. and I don't say anything TOO personal... but you know, well... can we just remove Q's name? Just as it's unusual I know I'd be easily trackable by it.

oh he will. And he only wants me. And dh has been sleeping on the sofa. so Q can come in with me. And I get pushed around and woke up with screaming often... often. I feel like I've lost control of him at night in my desperation to get sleep. he settles himself every night at 7pm with a little shout, s ometimes a little cry but always on his own. But later on... it's hideous. HIDEOUS. Help

ronshar · 03/03/2010 20:42

Star the childrens departments are always better than the maternity. But even so never feel bad if you pay to get your child treated faster. And I say that as a die hard believer in the NHS.

50ftQueenie · 03/03/2010 20:45

Star - It was actually an accident that we told him! We were planning to leave it until the day but I mentioned it without thinking.

Pepper, my neck is feeling much better, thank you. I went here which is where I took dd for baby massage when she was little. Amazing. I'm trying to persuade dh that this is a necessary regular expense, rather than a luxury . Sadly he's yet to fall for that!

Star, sorry to hear that Q is feeling rough again. When they are ill you can't get them settled in a nighttime routine though. And Q has had these repeated bouts of illness, so I'm not surprised he has disturbed nights.

CSWS, I hope that your nights improve soon. The only thing that works for my two is me singing to them when I've put them into bed. Dh can't won't sing, so I have that joy for both of them. Luckily they accept the set number of songs, so its not an indefinite time, but its a pita when I get a cold

Ekka my children would go to sleep even faster if I was singing. Just so they couldn't hear me any more

I am watching 5 days on BBC1. I am having a real issue with the poor baby who is being left to cry. It just wants a cuddle. I know its just TV. But poor baby.

50ftQueenie · 03/03/2010 22:11

Ah bollocks!!!!! I KNEW there was something I wanted to watch this week!

Ekka - Yum to massage. When I was working and was a horrible smoker, I planned to treat myself to facials with the money I saved through giving up. I think I managed to save enough for half a facial.

Pistachio - And if we get stuck, we can always check the older threads.....

He really isn't convinced 50ft.....

So I'm drafting emails about a possible return to work, after 3 years out of the workplace - scary stuff. Thing is, in many ways it would be easier (logistically) to wait till the kids were both in school, but if I wait that long I doubt I'll remember anything or be up to date enough to be employable. Still, we'll have to see. I promised dh I wouldn't just give up work without finding out all the options, and part of me doesn't want to give up (though the massage nearly convinced me to put the kids into full time daycare and become a lady of leisure ), but I also think that with the current climate its unlikely there will be many flexible opportunities that will suit and as I'm not returning from mat leave, just a career break they don't have to offer me anything as I'm not an employee any more.

Really in my dream world I'd find a job that was flexible enough to fit in around current arrangements, but still paid my old salary.... anyone see any pigs flying yet?!?!?!

50ftQueenie · 03/03/2010 22:31

No flying pigs, but if you find a job like that let me know please. I want to do something part-time but I don't want to do any old thing.

OP posts:
StarExpat · 04/03/2010 08:29

That's fine to take the list off but I didn't want to do that if not everyone wanted it.

Ekka what did you used to do for work?

Pistachio - A friend of mine recently went to parkside to have a cyst removed and had some complications (not due to her surgery but because of something else going on in her body) and they were at her bedside in an instant and solved the problem immediately, quite possibly saving her life (pre existing blood clot).
I'm defending the private hospital near me (because it does have access to emergency services and better equipment than our local NHS) while at the same time I do believe strongly in NHS and I think if places like that didn't exist then the NHS would be even stronger... then stupid people like me, when desperate, pay to use those services and promote their existence... I'm an idiot!

50ft your ds is probably someone who would prefer to know beforehand anyway

StarExpat · 04/03/2010 10:34

Just sent a kid to nurse with suspected conjunctivitis. he said his mom might take him to dr at the weekend.... If Q looked like that, he'd been seen straight away before being thrown into a situation with loads of other kids. ugh! I'm dettol-ing everything he may have touched now that they are at a special class. Last thing I need is for it to spread and for Q to get it - that's 2 days I'm home off work if that happens.
Mother is sahm, too, with a younger child at home with her, so not impossible to just keep him home and get him seen.

StarExpat · 04/03/2010 10:36

That was a mean rant. I really really adore his mother. And him. They are lovely people. Just temporary insanity at the prospect of Q getting conj. on top of what he already has made me

50ftQueenie · 04/03/2010 12:04

Star - That child should be sent home. Conjunctivitis is VERY contagious and most schools/nurseries won't let children attend if they have it. I had to keep DS off school for two days with conjunctivitis but that's what you have to do to prevent it from spreading. Phone the mother, tell her to come and collect him. Oh and you're probably right about DS wanting to know before hand. I doubt he would have coped if we had told him minutes before he went in. Such a big wuss!
