Oh indeed it's not! We're prescribed the same type if abs on both occasions? Maybe Q needs something different to actually clear the infection.

50ftQueenie · 01/03/2010 10:33

Eh? That sentence made no sense! Sorry. I meant: were you prescribed.....

I have to bring in my passport and visa and work permit...etc. I have to get original paperwork from my employer... in just a year, this won't happen as we'll have ILR.
No, we got 2 different types of antibiotic.

CantSleepWontSleep · 01/03/2010 10:57

Would anyone like my dc for the day? They are driving me mad.

It's bad enough when you were born & raised in the UK Star, I didn't think about all the extra hoops you'd have to jump through. Don't know what to suggest if two different abs were tried. Poor little fella.

Myjob - Oh what fun for you! Conjunctivitis is SO annoying and itchy. Even though DS has had about 100 bouts of it, I only caught it once from him.... on the day of my work Christmas do!

No thanks CSWS. M is in a picklish mood today too. DS was (by some miracle) an absolute poppet this morning!

1 hr 15 mins to get ds to nap this afternoon, despite him being knackered to start with. Dh thinks that we should give up and change it back to a cot. Part of me would like to, but it doesn't offer a solution to the fact that in a month or so dh could well be abroad all week again, and I won't be able to get ds down into the cot, so we'd have to do all this again in a few weeks, whereas I'm hoping that he'll just get used to it after a couple of days. What do you all think?

StarExpat · 01/03/2010 14:07

I say stick with it. It's like controlled crying. If you give in now, it's just losing what you've already started, right? I think it may take a week or so but once done, it will all be worth it (says the foolish first time mother with little experience ).

aaagh, just taken me an hour to force encourage the DSs to pick up 8,000,000 pieces of Lego the little buggers tipped down behind the old sofas...
Have well and truly fishwifed today.

StarExpat · 01/03/2010 20:07

well, been to doctor. I have a cyst behind my knee. Weird lump that's been there all weekend and made my knee swell at one point and now it's just a lump again...
Q got nasal steroid drops to help clear the phlegm and work on healing his chesty cough. I said "so, we're not going to be back here in 3 days with worsened symptoms and in need of something else, are we?" and he said "it would be unfortunate if you are"

Pepper - that's a lot of lego!!

What did you decide to do csws about the bed? I hope you've persevered! I'm sure it will happen given time, now that you've started.

CantSleepWontSleep · 01/03/2010 21:15

We're still sticking with it star. Took about 40 mins tonight, which is best so far. Just hoping that we don't have another long session in the night.
He did manage to sleep for 3 hours this afternoon, with a little screaming fit half way through.

aubergenie · 02/03/2010 06:43

I really hope it continues to improve CSWS. It must be better to spend the time doing it now while you're both around and can share the pain, rather than having to start again when you're on your own.

Star - I hope you and Q are on the mend soon.

I'm ridiculously tired. We're baking cakes and making hats at school today ready for our Mad Hatter's Tea Party for World Book Day. I won't be there for the party. But the children are trying to persuade me to come in and bring S dressed as a rabbit.

50ft - I've got a lovely vision on M's lovely cheeky little face munching on a load of coconut. Aah. When are we doing our Greenwich meet-up?

StarExpat · 02/03/2010 08:23

greenwich meet up - either on a weekend or on April holiday because mine is the same as yours for April

CantSleepWontSleep · 02/03/2010 15:38

Blimey where is everyone today? Out enjoying the sunshine I hope. Ds and I took advantage of it this morning and swept leaves from the patio and then spring cleaned the filthy playhouse (full of sand and grass as well as toys).

He slept through last night thankfully, though woke and got up screaming rather than his usual calm self this morning. I got him down for his afternoon nap fairly quickly too, as I waited til he was really knackered and then pinned him down when he tried to get up off the bed (had got him to sleep in my arms first)!

I am in love today ladies. And it is with a buggy no less! I will be very surprised if I don't order one of these in the next few days. Just look at all the position that it can go in (pic on left)!

StarExpat · 02/03/2010 20:14

oh that buggy is super cool csws!!

Congrats on the sleeping front, too.

I went to see a dr who is very well regarded locally as a private patient for Q and it was well worth it.

Ekka · 02/03/2010 20:25

CSWS - Love that buggy. It looks a little like my double, but shorter and could be used as a single as well right?

The dcs were at the cm today so I got some housework done and finished raking up the moss from the grass. And then I got my treat of an amazing massage - bliss!

Similar to i-candy pistachio, but I think the seats are bigger (ds already looks big in i-candy), and it goes in more positions (don't think you can have them facing each other in i-candy), and is a bit cheaper (though far from cheap). Can't road test in a shop because they aren't in UK yet, but they will be in June . I was put onto them by starting a thread in 'pushchairs' .

Can you put ds down ok when he's asleep in your arms pistachio?
I spent half an hour sitting beside ds in his bed tonight whilst he tried to settle to sleep (we used to think this time was great when he was in cot as it gave us more evening!), then I dared to move my position slightly and set him screaming again, so dh took over and it took another 15 mins. Tedious but calmer than previous nights at least.

What happened with the doctor then star?

Ekka · 02/03/2010 21:18

Star, I know.... I felt almost a bit guilty, but my neck has been killing me so it was great to get some of that sorted. And I did work hard the rest of the day so I could feel like I'd earned my treat iyswim . How sad am I!

Another crap night here where ds wouldn't go back off on his own after waking. Am despairing now!

StarExpat · 03/03/2010 08:50

Ekka you aren't allowed to feel guilty - no way! That sounds like a heavenly day!

Csws glad the settling is getting easier!

Pistachio - how cute that he was waiting for you when you got home... awwww.

The dr said that the amount of times Q, as just a 1 year old, has had infections over the past few months is not normal. he had a look in his throat. Tonsils are beginning to swell and were very red. He said that the antibiotics that we use typically (amox, eryth, penic.) have been around for so long that some bacteria/infections (that have been around for a long time) are in fact somewhat immune to them. So, the antibiotic kills off 15% or maybe even 95% of the bacteria/germs, making him feel better and seem better, but the infection still lingers in a small amount and then when he gets a little cold or something, his immune system becomes weakened and it exacerbates the infection/bacteria and it becomes full blown again with raised temp, very large, infected tonsils, possibly a chest infection if left untreated...etc.

He has given me a prescription of a newer antibiotic and I can fill it once he gets a fever and is floppy...etc. (when he actually needs it) and call him and tell him I've given filled the scrip. It should kill the infection this time. If it doesn't, and I'm back in with the same infection in just a few weeks' time again... then he will refer me to his ear/nose/throat specialist who can check to see if something else is going on. But right now, his ears look clear, thankfully. And he seems to be hearing ok, too.

It's the SAME pattern every single time. Same symptoms... this morning...same as predicted... yellow/green gloops of snot coming out, low fever. Later today I predict he'll have a high fever, despite dosing him with calpol and nurofen alternating and he'll be quite listless and glazed over eyes. He'll take a longer than usual nap, too. Let's see if I'm right. I'll wait to get the text from cm at around 2pm and then when I go to collect him (a tiny bit later today as I have a meeting) I bet he's still sleeping.
