oops, didn't notice the thread was getting too big!

PMSL at the Burn's night smilies; I thought they were wearing earphones.

not sure I agree with them; as a proud Scot, I hate all that fucking tacky tartan crap that we get labelled with, tartan tammies and fake ginger hair more than most

TALLULAHBELLE · 24/01/2010 22:15

I like 'em

LittleMissNorty · 24/01/2010 22:38

They look like Santa hats to me

Don't look at my latest FB photos then Daisy....my SIL's Xmas pressies all came from the tat shops of Inverness!

thistimeIknowitstheRiathing · 24/01/2010 22:45

will you not be wearing one of those wig things with your kilt tomorrow then daisy? TBH it took me a while to work out that's what it was I wonder if we can have a flat cap and whippet yorkshire rose one for yorkshire day? lol @ upshit

the big boys are OK now, but baggins is v poorly I even rang NHS direct this afternoon as he was so glassy eyed and listless after sleeping all night and morning. of course, that call is like medicine here, but if no improvement we have to get him checked out tomorrow. we have had 24 hrs D-free, and it was around midnight last time he threw up (also fairly projectile), but he has a runny nose and watery eyes now.

hi Tbelle. how are you?

well done jamlet

LackaDAISYcal · 24/01/2010 22:46

tam-o-shanter is brilliant Norty

Arse to my No2 son....I am feeling distinctly queasy . DH has been suffering all day today as well...bleargh.

thistimeIknowitstheRiathing · 25/01/2010 10:30

hope you are OK daisy.

funnily enough DH has a "family friend" who is ginger-wig-and-tartan-personified, and he is a horrible self-important person, so I can quite see your point. Is Burns Night a big occassion in Scotland? (sorry if that's dim) it seems to be similar to St Patricks day in these parts. DH is very fond, having once piped in a haggis (or something) in a posh hotel.

just had an email from my friend (of the break-up) bleating on about everyone is being so nice to her she would cry etc, and she has joined a networking site and is exchanging messages with like-minded people. I so want to tell her to stop behaving like a spoilt teenager.

baggins still very weak but no more vomit

CharlottesClan · 25/01/2010 10:48

found you!

lol@upshit

sorry for all the poorly LOs and now poorly mummies and daddies (hazard of the job )

ellen had her third morning in creche today (she only goes monday and tuesday)
she was screaming after me 'dont leave me here mummy' crying her heart out

is it cruel making her go? never had this problem with thomas he couldnt wait to get away from me.. (which also made me feel a bit )

the looks like santa hats to me, but the [bbiscuit] looks like a scots hat (sorry daisy! )

LackaDAISYcal · 25/01/2010 12:09

Oh my my my...bumble had to be cut out of his vest this morning , the poo was everywhere. It was pooling in the feet of his babygro, and there was a huge puddle in his nappy (thankfully a sposie) so we just unbuttoned him, cut the vest, slipped him out of it all and threw the lot away and then put him straight in the shower to hose him off. It was on old vest and his babygro had a wee hole in the back of it and had been through DD first. I hate throwing stuff away like that, but.....shudders at the thought of it all.

Having a quiet day, or not so quiet if DD has anything to say on the subject! She is narked cos we couldn't go to gym minis because of bumble's bottom explosions and is making sure I know this!

reet, I can smell him again... Wish me luck

LackaDAISYcal · 25/01/2010 12:26

how is she after you have gone CC? If she settles OK, I would be inclined to keep sending her; she'll get there eventually.

Also, I know why you needed to change names, but what's the significance behind your new name? the charlotte bit is confusing me!

Ria, glad to hear baggins is on the mend. I use metatone tonic for mine when they have had a horrible illness; seems to help the recuperation process and get them back in tip top condition. I missed what's going on with your friend?

Burn's night is nowhere near as big a deal as St Patrick's Day. It does tend to be celebrated more by expats abroad. IME, it's usually only celebrated quietly in Scotland and although there are some organised events, it's mainly clubs and groups rather then big "anyone can buy a ticket" type dos.

We haven't even got any haggis here tonight; mainly because I forgot to order a gluten free one in time!

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 25/01/2010 12:40

Sorry for illnesses Hope everyone is perked up v v soon!

Just rang the nursery. I took her in this morning with 3 changes of clothes and asked them to keep her in pants if possible, but if it just got too much or she ran out of changes to go back to nappies. Apparently she has gone through to the potty rooom several times but not weed on the potty yet. She has had one accident. But they seem quite happy with her (my main reason for ringing was in case the staff were getting too harassed by it!) and just asked if it was OK to put her in nappy for sleeptime. So, looking hopeful that we might get (daytime) nappy free in the near future. Just as well as she has not taken a real aversion to cloth nappies (possibly due to the fact that they are SO old and the material is pretty rough feeling?) so we have had to switch to disposables

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 25/01/2010 12:42

Oh and CC I agree with Daisy that it depends on how she was AFTER you leave. Either way I'd give it a little while yet, at 2 days a week it might take a few weeks to get used to.

And yes, what is teh significance of your name? (I know (enough) about the need to change)

LittleMissNorty · 25/01/2010 12:43

Oh blimey Daisy....how revolting! Mind you, I've done that before....stripped them off in the bath and slung the clothes away.....there is a limit!

Hope he's feeling better soon and baggins ....seem to be lots going around atm

We're having a quiet day today as well.....but mainly beause we're busy working and nursery for the rest of the week and out on Thursday.

Blimey, DD just asked for another sandwich . Must get liver sausage more often.

Titting about trying to find a holiday cottage and getting nowhere fast. Some of them are so bloody expensive.

So was your friend mucking about Ria?

Any offers Foxy?

LittleMissNorty · 25/01/2010 12:45

good news about nursery Jammy. I'm sure she'll be fine. Sometimes they need to get wet IYKWIM otherwise they don't know what it feels like.

TALLULAHBELLE · 25/01/2010 13:13

Afternoon. Just wondered (& forgive me if you've all discussed this to death whilst I've been AWOL) who is getting the sf jags? We're booked in for Fri but I am wavering.

DD just asked if horses have a toilet in the field to do wee wees in. Funny how their wee minds work.

LackaDAISYcal · 25/01/2010 13:58

My lot are booked in for next week T. I wanted to get DS1 done as he has asthma which gets out of control if he gets a bad cold, so better be on the safe side there as he's in a high risk category. The LOs I just thought I'd get them done at the same time. A fair few of my friends have already had their LOs done and my nephews were done as well and there have been no side effects in any of them; it is also much less painful in LOs than adults as the dose they get is pretty small.

Norty have you tried cottages4you...they have a 7.5% MN partners discount if you look on the MN shopping page. dIt doesn't sound like much off, but it brought our holiday down to under £1000 for a fortnight...going to Norfolk again. Depends where you want to go though....south west coast of England is much ££££££

jammy, do you have any pocket nappies? I can lend you some to try if you like? fleece lined so always nice and dry and soft...but if she is PTing anyway, probably not much point? you can get ones called coolababy now that are only £6 each! They would prolly need some extra boosting though for an older toddler as the inserts are a bit slim.

OP posts:
thistimeIknowitstheRiathing · 25/01/2010 14:38

no mention of SF jabs here.

poor bumble. was wondering if DS2 and baggins had had norovirus (DS2 was complaining of aching limbs). baggins has perked up enough to have clothes on instead of PJs and his spoke to his granny and grandad on the phone. we might venture out later, as I have to go to school for DS2 as DH has been called in to work, am making him go to Tesco while he's out, as it won't be worth him coming home between cooking for the shoot and then cooking for the pool team. Luckily DS1 is out to tea ("yeah, I can go for tea, X's mum is a brilliant cook!...not that you aren't mum..." LOL)

don't know what is going on with friend (she has split up with partner, pretty much overnight, and thrown them out etc, daisy was causing me a lot of grief last week, but luckily I seem to have moved on), it all seemed rather sudden, I wouldn't have expected there to be someone else, but it is as if she is wiping away all evidence of relationship and pretending it never happened, I did wonder if she had decided not to be gay anymore (as it always seemed a very forced statement IYSWIM, lots of "look at us, we're kissing where you can see us" etc, then comlaining about the backlash of that in the tiny small-minded communtiy in which we live), but not if the networking site is anything to go by. I shall PMSL if she bumps into her ex on there. (I am a BAD friend)

thistimeIknowitstheRiathing · 25/01/2010 14:40

DH is a twat. He's gone off to work with the pushchair. I wouldn't mind but he's been cleaning the car out (emptying the stuff from the car into carrier bags and dumping it in the kitchen) this morning so he should have noticed.

Are you around in half term Daisy?

LackaDAISYcal · 25/01/2010 15:44

We will be at half term Ria....maybe we can finally meet up this time? Actually I would like to go and hide under a rock for the week, but that isn't going to happen!

sounds complicated with your friend. didn't realise she was gay though! Pretty narrow minded of me, but when people talk about partners I always just assume it's the opposite sex!

Neighbour saved me from the school run today and said he would pick DS1 up as he was going to get his DS!!! Gave me a chance to get bumble down for an early nap and get some housework done. I gutted the house from top to bottom (well apart from the bedrooms and the black hole of calcutta office before my do on Saturday and I am determined to keep it in this state! Would rather have had my feet up with a cuppa though!

OP posts:
LittleMissNorty · 25/01/2010 16:01

I'm coming to the same conclusion about SW England as well Daisy. Thank goodness I don't have to go away in school holidays that's all I can say.

Never occured to me either Ria that your friend was gay .

You having a do for your b/day Daisy?

My DS is one Tuesday week.....don't know where the time has gone!

Thought I wasn't gonna bother with SF injections for any of us as its definately on the wane here, but my neice was diagnosed yesterday . Perhaps I'm too late anyway.

Sputnik · 25/01/2010 19:49

Ha, found you!
I forgot your DS has the same birthday as me Norty.

CC, definitely persevere with the creche, I think it's normal for the to get upset at first when you leave. how is the candida diet going?

TALLULAHBELLE · 25/01/2010 20:04

Why do you think you're too late for the sf jags Norty? Did you mean your DN has prob passed it on already or that it's been offered already & you didn't take it?

I am torn because I don't like the thought of having no idea of long term/ future side effects especially as it seems to be on the wane as you say. Who mentions SARS or bird flu anymore, will SF be in the same category this time next year? On the other hand we have a long trip ahead of us (Down Under - long story) & I don't fancy our chances - 3 littlies trapped on a plane with all those germs circulating, at least we'd know that was one bug they wouldn't catch.

What's the story with SF in Italy Sputnik? Are they vaccinating?

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 25/01/2010 20:06

Well done with the cleaning Diasy

Not sure about SF, haven't been offered any jabs yet despite my asthma and DD's youth

Well, she only had the one accident at nursery, but she didn't go in the potty at all! She sat on it lots, but seems that she had one accidental wee on the floor, one wee in her nappy during nap time, and one poo in the nappy on the way home (so glad I didn't risk a trip on the bus with her in pants ). They seemed pleased though, so try again tomorrow.

Sputnik · 25/01/2010 20:16

I think SF vacinations were offered to at risk groups here

CharlottesClan · 25/01/2010 20:21

candida diet sucks, did five days before i couldnt take it anymore. am now doing the 'no sugar, but go on have a potato' diet but still eating loads of yoghurt and loads of meat/veg to fill me up stop me snacking on chocolate.
have lost an inch round my waist, which i think was water retention not fat.

ellen is crying pretty much the whole time there, although with the addition of a dummy she seems better.
creche put ellen in pull ups today because she wet herself which has annoyed me because it puts us back a step (she was in pants in the daytime last few days)

DH been throwing his weight around for once at the hospital, they tried to cancel his op because his BP is slightly to high. even though he has two weeks to go. he told them his BP has been fine for weeks, and that if they didnt make him wait three hours to be seen in a very hot and busy hospital maybe he wouldnt be so stressed?
he also told them that medication would only take a week to work on BP anyway and he has lots at home leftover from last time, and if they cancel his operation he is not leaving until he has spoken to the senior registra about it!
GO DH! (its ususally me throwing my weight around not him!)

oh and the charlotte is my middle name in RL

Ohforfoxsake · 25/01/2010 20:21

just marking my spot

no offers, made one, but rejected

i need to stop thinking about it and focus on selling and wedding.

i have Jimmy Choos

TALLULAHBELLE · 25/01/2010 20:23

Evening Jammy. Keep at it - for a while there DD seemed to save all her poos for nap/bedtime (in nappy) although she would wee on the potty quite happily. Thought she was 'withholding' & got into a bit of a tizz reading about it. Lo & behold one day it just wasn't an issue anymore & now she uses the toilet without any bother.

Has anyone dropped the bedtime nappy yet? DD is quite often dry in the morning but I don't know how to progress. Am I naive in hoping it will just happen? Really can't face the thought of wet sheets etc & I'm quite happy having her in bedtime nappy for a while yet.
