Ok so a pretty boring thread title but thought we needed some distance from the last one!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

babyblue4 - hiya! We have the same with henry in that he needs a nap but won't stay in bed. The nearest we get now is a 'snooze' on the sofa in front of the telly under a blanket. Yesterday he point blank told me 'I not goin' a bed!' with a big smile. Didn't rest on the sofa and was a complete nightmare by 4 o'clock (am I the only one who counts down to bed time? )

I'm findinh him much tougher than Ollie who was a dream at this age, though we had more trouble when he was jsut 5. A friend called it the f**king 5's! Which was true for us.

Made 10 hearts to sell last night and have thur/fri to make a couple of bags to sell. Thankls for the ideas, I think little girls aprons might be a good one to try. The great thing is if it doesn't sell I can always give it as a present to one of Ollie's friends!

Dal - looks like pineapple it is!!

(Anyone know what the world record for being pregnant is??)

muppetgirl · 17/03/2010 10:04

have found this!!

longest pregnancy

Hey ladies,

Just read that thread inzi, I don't believe for a minute that person is in our group, total liar! We all think you did a great job and it took a lot of will power to do what you did and keep the weight off. You look fantastic! Hope you've forgotten all about the silly cow this morning!

Well done on the potty training success, waht a brilliant idea to get the fairy to talk to Jane

NC - Glad the dentist app went ok and it's nothing drastic that needs doing.

for you at the £20 laptop charge!

Hmm a creme egg and wispa fest WITHOUT me, not sure I can allow that

Hope your colpocopy goes ok, I had several and although they're not how i'd ideally choose to spend my time they were not too bad, will be thinking of you x x x

Mine - Lol at you being half way through your creme egg . There is a simple sollution to this problem, just buy packs of 6 from shops like home bargains and £ stretcher, only £1.99 YUM YUM.

BB4 - I hope it's not as late as sunday but will be sending a creme egg express delivery if it is.. do you have creme eggs where you are?

Sympathies of the nedtime situation, I can understand how with 4 to look after you feel you're running out of steam to be consistant, heck, I struggle to be with just the one.

Good your dh is home to help out a bit and that you're getting the house orgnaised, I love getting rid of junk and sorting things out. Well, I love the end result anyway.

Wel, my midwife appointment was more than a little irritating to say the least!

Nothing major, just lots of little things. Dh took the afternoon off work to take me i the end so he could be with me and look after me

I was told last time I would be monitored for 30 mins 'as per procedure' and offered a sweep. When I got in they were all having a chin wag round reception and i could see that my 2 least favourite midwives were on shift (all the rest are absolutely lovely but these 2 are just annoying, one is really bossy and abrupt and the other is really ditsy and asks me the same questions over and over and always writes the wrong appointment times in my notes).

Anyway, the ditzy one said 'oh how may weeks are you now then and I was like oh I'm T+10, just like last time! She was like oh you went over last time did you? I said yes (bearing in mind i've had about 3 appointments with her where we've discussed my previous pregnancy in detail and my 3rd degree tear)

She then said that a student midwife would be doing my appointment whilst she watched. The student introduced herself and was very nice but I was never actually asked if I minded this?! I was a little nervous at the thought of a student doing my sweep but tried to keep calm.

Once in the room with the ditzy one, student and dh, the ditzy one asked 'is this your 1st baby then?' I had just told her a minute ago in reception that I was overdue, LIKE LAST TIME! So that filled me with confidence that she really listens, not!

The student checked my blood pressure and wee sample etc and they asked if I wanted a sweep, I said 'yes I understood I was here for that, and to be monitored'. The ditzy one then looked at me confused and said 'why do you need to be monitored? We don't usually do that...' I was like 'well that's what the midwife tole me I was coming in for at my last app, she said it was procedure and even checked that with the other midwives on duty that day'. That was actually why dh took so much time off... She said again oh I don't think you need to be, i've never done that, you're just low risk aren't you?' (bearing in mind she hadn't even looked at my notes and appeared to know nothing about my situation I don't know how she was so sure I was 'low risk'. She went off to check and said 'no, i've asked all the others and they said no need to monitor you, you're just low risk blah blah blah'

I wasn't too bothered either way but I was annoyed that i'd been told that was going to happen and dh had used a lot of his flexi time to be there then it wasn't happening.

The student felt my tummy and thankfully baby still at the front and not back to back . Ditzy one then had to double check if head was engaged for her and I didn't really like that idea cause she's always rough and pokes my pubic bone really hard with her fingers . Anyway, she prodded around and it did hurt a bit and I was making noises such as 'oof'. The concluded the head was 4/5ths so 1 5th engaged...

Then they said so you want a sweep and I was like 'yes! (again)' they said to take my bottom half off and hop on the bed so dh gave me a hand with my bottoms and I got on the bed and they didn't even cover me then were just like 'oh you can put that blanket over yourself', I'm used to the midwife doing that and didn't feel very looked after...

The student did the sweep and was actually very nice and surprisingly gentle, wasn't as bad as the one I had last time with Dylan. She said I was 2cm dialated and cervix soft although still posterior (at the back). I onticed she wrote in my notes I had a bishops score of 4, need to look that up to see how ready my cervix is....

Anwyay then dh helped me get dressed again and the ditzy one was like 'Right, lets get you boooked in for the induction'. Not 'how do you feel about induction? or This is what the procedure is', no I was just TOLD that this was happening. Anyway, I asked when they usually do it and she said 'oh well they don't let you go over 14 days cause by then the placenta has done it's job and start to not work as well' then she added' oh some women refuse for whatever reason but then you do have to be monitored every day'. I thought, oh nice of you to mention that but not actually offer me the option! Thankfully I don't really want to go over 2 weeks and am willing to be induced but I would have been nice to dicuss my options rahter than just being told...

So we all marched through to reception and the student called the hosp I am to give birth at. I was a bit annoyed by this as they hadn't even told me what day they were planning on booking it before ringing and were now on the phone arranging it

So, I was there desperately trying to listen to when it was going to be booked and getting ready to say 'no thanks' if they tried to book it ealrier than fri. Thankfully they did book it for fri evening.

So if I don't go in to labour before fri at 8pm I have to call the hosp to see how busy they are then go in for 9pm if they have room for me...

Sorry i've babbled on and on about my appointment there, I just wanted to get it off my chest cause it's been irritating me a lot! Glad dh was there as I would have felt quite intimidated and bossed around on my own. He wasn't happy with how it went at all! I know it could have been worse but they're usually so lovely at our midwife unit, it's just a small one and all the other midwives are really friendly and always take time to listen and discuss things with you.

Off to give Dylan some milk, will be back later x

Gosh inzi, that sounds like a terrible appointment too. So much conflicting information and incompetance

I don't think anyone who isn't really nice should even consider working in maternity. It's a very vunerable and emotional time and these people should respect that!

LisaLessLumpy · 17/03/2010 13:37

crikey a lot has happened in the space of 48 hours, I thought I checked in more regularly than that!

Inzi - skimmed through that thread on faddy diets etc, try nor to let it get you down, hopefully you are ok again now. I can easily get upset and angry over topics like that so now I don't read anything else on MN other than our topic, there are an awful lot of bitchy keyboard warriors about, feeling all poweful as they are anonymous I did have a thought that maybe it could have been Vaunda but then again the OP was a bit too eloquent for that. I really do not believe it could be anyone from our group.

Also skimmed through the thread titles topic... ffs why do people care what people entitle their group, its beyond me how it can cause so much controversy. I am now thinking at how cheesy we could get our next topic just to piss them off more

Dal and Inzi Can't believe your midwife experiences Dal I still think it might be tonight after 8, had any twinges yet?

babyblue hope you managed to get some sleep

Ben is still having his daytime naps but now will only sleep in the car when picking sam up, or he will have a kip on the sofa in the playroom, when he does this he can still go for approx 2 hours, long may it continue

He did a proper wee on the potty last night, just before getting the bath which is a step in the right direction but I'm still not pushing him to do it till the summer, and I asked him to do one this morning before putting a fresh nappy on, he had obviously just done one but tried anyway, but he tried too hard and did a little number two instead, so he got a dance and a high five anyway

I went to the dentist yesterday, and I've got to have two fillings replaced he is doing them both at the same time but one is top left the other bottom right, so my whole face is gonna be numb and I just hate that sensation other than the root filling I had a couple of month ago I haven't had any work done in about 8 years so I guess my luck has run out

I am now gearing up for a month of Sam, he breaks up on friday for 4 weeks!!! ITS A GOOD JOB i DON;T WORK ooops he seems to have more holidays than he is at school! at least Ben will still be doing two days at nursery. Must get some play dates set up to make the time go quicker

Hope nothing else kicks off as I have busy few days coming up so won't have much time for a catch up, but then again I don;t do that much anyway

NeedCoffee · 17/03/2010 13:39

Bloody hell Dal and Inzi, what crap midwives. Glad you both had DHs with you and that you put silly woman in her place Inzi, who does she think she is!!
OOOh Dal so I think I'll bet sat evening now for my creme egg if you don't mind

Well, I've had the crappest day so far for a long long time, sil asked if I'd go pick her up this morning as she was coming to look after Shannon and wait in for the washer man whilst I went to my appointment, and she wanted to bring nephews bouncer chair for him to sleep in and she couldn't carry it. Anyway, I left dd1 in case washing machine man came and went for sil, total trip of 10 minutes, dd rings when I'm on my way there to say washer man has been and wont come in as there was no adult here, told him I'd be less than 10 minutes but he said he'd try and come back later, cue me very pissed off, why not wait in his van for 2 minutes! I rung when I got back and they said he'd come back, he came at 8.45 when I was meant to be setting off for appointment and straight away said I'd probably get charged as he found a coin in the filter even though the lcd display had been playing up, he said I'd probably solved that by turning it off then on, I said I wasn't impressed with paying when it's not a year old yet-he said if I get an extended warranty then it'll only be around £10 a month and hopefully wont have to pay for the call out, so I said fine, but not impressed, so I've got to ring them to sort it out.

By then I was late for appointment, rang them and thegy said don't worry, got there, had to wait for about an hour and they took me in to do it, was starting to get a bit panicky as I knew sil doesn't like to be left with Shannon and the baby too long, then they said I should have had someone with me. One of the nurses was holding my hand and kept me talking, was not too bad until the doc said he was taking a biopsy-then I freaked out, hyperventilating and felt clammy and sick and dizzy, not because of the pain but because it means there may be something wrong The nurses tried to keep me calm while he cauterized the bleed and removed the spectulum, I couldn't sit up or move and went really white, so I had to lay for a bit retching as I felt sick, then I needed the loo and they helped me there with my bum showing! Still couldn't stop shaking, had sugary coffee and biscuit and felt okay after about 30 minutes, then went to collect something from Tesco Direct and there was an item missing from my parcel so had to stand around for another 20 minutes sorting that out.

Feel very sore and shakey, not sure why I went like that, nurse said some women do go funny when there cervix is being interfered with. Got to wait for up to 6weeks for results and doc said if I need treatment then I'll have to be to sleep due to my reaction. Great.

Read the thread title thread but it was deleted before I could post, made me laugh that people care enough to do a thread about it, suppose it does look funny if they don't know what we're referring to.
LOL at the poster that didn't like the piggies thread

NeedCoffee · 17/03/2010 13:41

crossed LLL, wow well done Ben on the potty training sounds like he's more than ready.
Good luck with the 4 weeks off, how come? Is it private school?

LisaLessLumpy · 17/03/2010 13:44

NC - Yes it is

NeedCoffee · 17/03/2010 13:49

Ah cool, do they do longer hours then or shorter summer holidays? I'm hoping I'll be able to put Shannon in a private one, can't afford it with dd1 and don't think she'll get a scolarship but have been looking into bursaries.

NC - At the moment he starts between 8.15 and 8.45 and finishes at 3.45, once he is in prep school its an 8.15 start, 4pm finish and Saturday mornings, hence they get longer holidays

NeedCoffee · 17/03/2010 14:27

Was it because i wrote so much Inzi or because the thought of it made you feel crap?

LLL-I was at dentist yesterday too and had to have xray and filling, I've had problems for years with my teeth which is so annoying as I look after mine and db never brushes his and has not even got one filling grr.

Glad it wasn't cause my writing made your eyes go funny. I'm like that, can't watch operation stuff Even watching birth programmes, I can feel there pain aand start trying to push with them! Better stick to Dora I think

Glad potty training going well, don't be too disheartened if you have a bad day, they sometimes do.

babyblue4 · 17/03/2010 15:58

So by the time I tried to look at the site, it had been erased. I cant believe people started a thread to complain about our group name??? Do they not have lives? I wish I had that kind of time on my hands Hmmmm... we really need to think of the most annoying title EVER for our next thread I dont usually venture out of the couple of threads I belong too. I prefer quality over quantity

Dal We do have cream eggs here in Canada. They used to only come out at Easter, but I have noticed that you can get them year-round in some places. Yummmy!!!

Dal and Inzi - am quite appalled at the treatment you ladies received at your appointments! Brought back bad memories of my pregnancy with DS1. I spotted and bled most of the pregnancy and was put on bed rest for months. At about 18 weeks along, I was in hospital visiting my nan, when I started to bleed. DH took me in a wheelchair down to emergency where he was not even allowed to spend the night with me. I was stuck for hours waiting alone. The doc came in and told me I was probably losing the baby, but to just relax . At one point, I was in the loo and passed a clot the size of an orange (thought it was the baby coming out). In the end, I had a student do the ultrasound to check the baby. So that took forever and I really needed to pee. At one point I told the tech that if she didnt let me get up to pee a little, that I would pee right there on the table! After a 2 hour ultrasound, the doc came in to tell me that baby is ok, but that it was my fault I was bleeding because I was having too much sex!! Can you imagine!!! I had to tell him that we were not having sex as per our docs orders, but he said I was lying! Anyway... I sympathise with idiots in the profession!

NC - I have a sensitive cervix as well... so your story made me shudder!!

Anyway... off to enjoy some sunshine and fresh air!!

NeedCoffee · 17/03/2010 16:49

BB-it wasn't to complain about us, just general thread titles they didn't like and someone else mentioned the Piggies series

This little piggy poo danced around with mummy sow

This little piggy went wee wee wee whoops!

This little piggy pissed on the floor

This little piggy screamed the house down

.........

LisaLessLumpy · 17/03/2010 17:44

I like this little piggy went wee wee wee whooops!

muppetgirl · 17/03/2010 18:50

hi all have been loving the possible thread titles.
wierd thing to start a thread about really I'm thinking of doing a 'AIBU to hate the colour red and anyone who wears it?' kind of thing. Seems reasonable to me, really it does

Inzi/Dal - really dorry to hear of crap midwives, rezlly insentive of them. I really wish they had time to read your notes before you talk to them so the first 10 mins of any app isn't then wasted by them trying to figure out why you're there! Hope you're feeling better now though Nc and not so sore.

LLL - Ollie breaks up next week for the same amount of time, I've got things arranged as that's the only way I can get through the holidays. I also have the boys going to Grandma's for their week (not toby though) so that helps. A group of us mums got together last holiday and hired a local village hall and we all brought toys/games/pens/paper alos food ect and split the cost. Worked out far less than soft play. We're thinking of hiring a bouncy castle next time...

Babyblue4 - your experiencs in hospital sounds awful

2 boys in bed and Ollie is having his 1/2 hour chill out time so I'm off for a cuppa
speak soon!

muppetgirl · 17/03/2010 18:57

hi babyblue, the friend request you'll get from facebook is from me!
