Books: DS likes colours/things type stuff in the daytime, as well as flap books (snigger). For bedtime, anything remotely scary must be avoided; so, he loves Monkey Puzzle but does not love The Gruffalo. Biggest bedtime reads are Monkey Puzzle, Very Hungry Caterpillar, My Daddy and Me, I Love My Mummy (little vanity buy, there ) and Say Goodnight To The Sleepy Animals.

had to move 30+ bin bags from out back into the skip..all left over from xmas and our stupid council will only collect one wheelie bin a week yeck!

sorry you are feeling rubbish sazz.. here is a steaming cup of lovely tea to help...

now have to go and declutter my wardrobes and vanity table with dd2 in tow.. only had 1/2 sleep .. but at least it meant the bin bags got moved..

poppysocks · 03/02/2010 14:22

Your poor Mum VG. Am sure having you there holding her hand will be a huge comfort though.

Hope you're not going down with February lurgy there sazzles. Think I'm resisting at the mo, but currently sitting here shivering (having been boiling an hour ago), sipping hot water and lemon as I can't face tea/coffee. DDs asleep at the mo so enjoy some respite. Hope it's the same at your end.

V. excited for you hp . Keep us posted! (As if you wouldn't )

Hope you survive today red.

Your dress is AMAZING cyteen.

I'm exceptionally to admit that I don't read to DD2 half as much as i did to DD1. She's struggling with concentration for a whole story though - although is a chicken and egg case that she hasn't because I haven't spent enough time concentrating on one thing with her? - DD1 was definitely sitting for ages listening to stories by this stage. Anyway, she does get DD1's stories at bedtime, which she does sit for and her favourite is v. clearly 'Apple, Pear, Orange, Bear'. Anyone know it? Most weird, surreal thing, but she chooses it every time over standard rhyming or flappy/textured books.

LOTI - you lucky, lucky lady. DH and I had a fab week there as students. That was such a long time ago that I have nothing useful add in terms of places to go out to but the Jewish cemetary is worth a visit as it is incredibly atmospheric and has a v. well done, though heart-wrenching museum attached about the holocaust. May not be your thing, but IMVHO, it's an important part of the city's history and worth a visit.

luckoftheirish · 03/02/2010 15:47

thinking of you vg and your mammy [hugs]...

just continuing my long boring posts about my cleaning antics.. god you must all be so bored ..

cleared out my wardrobes.. loaded third wash of the day and ran out to the dry cleaners with 7 yes 7 of dh jumpers that have been lying around for months..

i have decided that i am going to give myself and ts gold stars for cleaning today

TwilightSurfer · 03/02/2010 18:29

Why is it that you need to tinkle when you know you haven't a pot to piss in?? Plumber scheduled for 3. Going to dd1's school early in case the URGE hits me before then.

VG I did not purchase any of those books. I would also never give them.

must run...........

hotterpotter · 03/02/2010 18:34

Wow Loti you've been a bit busy today I on the other hand have been bored at work reading about risk management. Apparently it is a developmental opportunity for me...

Both DC trying to do yogo at the moment, 'tis very cute

Someone give me a slap and tell me to stop imagining symptoms

hotterpotter · 03/02/2010 18:36

VG oh that is so sad about your mum's dog . I hope you were able to comfort her a bit.

Sazz you sound like you're in the wars too A long hot bath and a ginandtonic should sort you out

TwilightSurfer · 03/02/2010 20:07

HP please tell me you have a pee stick you can use with first morning's pee????????

hotterpotter · 03/02/2010 20:10

I do have one left actually... but not quite ready to wee on it yet as not 100% sure I know whether I want to know either way

TwilightSurfer · 03/02/2010 20:37

Okay but what about US? We want to know.

GladioliBuckets · 03/02/2010 20:38

Heheheh at HP. Take a webcam pic of yourself tomorrow, stick it on FB and we'll all see if we can guess the results just by looking.

Since we're on the subject of Dizzy's cafe, surely Thé Café is the perfect name, (being a Cafe on the Tay wot serves both tea and coffee.) 3 puns in 1 - I am bloody Stephen Fry I am.

DS1 had a lovely 5th birthday today, Steaky's Darth Vader snugglesuit arrived and he loved it. I am v tempted to get one for myself. Forgot to take a pic though, will do tomorrow.

Kurt still not eating much today, some yucky poos but happy in himself. He likes any books read to him but will sit and read these old Thomas Ladybird books to himself, quietly cooing choooooo chooooo.

Let's play the game again where we sum up our babies in a 3 words. Kurt is quiet, gentle and sentimental.

pertelote · 03/02/2010 20:38

Ooo Hots, it is exciting but sympathy for your wracked nerves.

Sazzles thanks for the thought on watering the sponge! That really sums DD up. On that subject, @VG, all books are popular, especially anything with animals, not much difference between daytime and night-time books. (Cyteen that is very sweet about no scary books at night! J must have real imagination already.) Gruffalo etc, all Eric Carles, very popular (with Mummy too, am sucker for good rhymes and cool illustrations) and yes, Poppy*, Orange Pear Apple Bear is MUCH requested. Also anything with dinosaurs, especially Dinosaur Roar! and Stomp Chomp Big Roars. And anything with song words in, eg wheels on the bus, so that I will sing (child is tone deaf clearly and has too little exposure to proper music...)

  • greedier/encyclopedia: Charlie Cook's Favourite Book.

TS hope you found somewhere to erm, run to!

LOTI how fab about Prague! DD will be fine I'm sure, where will she stay while you're away? Can you not break it as 'guess what, you're going to visit....'? Obv. no real experience of that age so sorry if that is dense suggestion.

Sazzles poor you, hope you are tucked up somewhere warm...

RedLentil · 03/02/2010 20:47

Oh poor Mammy VG. What an awful time she has had.

I'm much cheered by the idea of DS1 in his darth vader suit Buckets. Happy birthday to him.

Well, I taught the new students and they seem to all like each other which is the first step towards getting some work done.

I then took half an hour to potter round Cork by myself and had DH on the phone souding unhappy that I wasn't in the car. I had managed a Tesco shop with the girls and came back to find it unpacked from the car but stacked on the dinner table.

He is in bad form. It happens quite rarely so I will try to be reasonable.

Still, I have finished drafting the Playgroup Leader's contract, and can I think pause for breath bit tonight.

Buckets, dd2 is cautious, funny, tuneful ...

Oh and elfin, which works quite nicely with her name. Though she is also known as Eva Diva.

RedLentil · 03/02/2010 20:53

By the way, Loti, I would just say, 'mummy and daddy are going away at the weekend for some mummy and daddy time. And guess what: you get to stay at cm's house overnight!!!!!!'

Then if she starts weeping etc. just keep replying sagely along the lines of.

'Oh well, it's a shame you're sad about it. Mummy and daddy do need some time to chat too though. On monday, when we are having dd1 and mummy time I'll show you postcards of the places we went.'

Do not deviate except to add details of what is at x's house: type of bed etc.

Sazz are you mad woman??? I can hold out maybe until Monday but another week... no way! Glad you are feeling better

Red good to hear you had a successful first lesson, and on your behalf re DH. Hope he comes to his senses again soon.

Loti no advice from me I'm afraid, have never yet left DS overnight . Oh and did I mention .

Thank you pert and Buckets I am feeling quite a twit to be in a bit of a flap about it already

Also Buckets can't wait to see DS in his suit

To sum up my DS in 3 words...snot, noise, adorable [melt]
