been off for a while, but wanted to say to beans- oh, you poor things - that sounds awful. i have no idea what you could do as we haven't had that, but i'm sure one of the other lovelies on here will be able to offer some help. oh, hang on, stream of consciousness here, but dh's friend did mention dipping a cotton bud in vaseline and shoving it up a bit to help it to come out. but PLEASE DON'T DO THAT until someone else verifies that isn't the wrong thing to do.

Rubena · 26/01/2010 22:03

Hello,
Oh Beans, that sounds horrible Only thing I can suggest is I give ds breakfast apricots which are from a can and I puree them and add to his cereal or yogurt which makes him go really fast and very soft - hope she gets better soon.

Thanks all for asking. Scan was all really good - a real wriggler which isn't unlike it's brother was! Everything looks really good, strong heartbeat and sonographer really happy with what she saw. it all seems real now
had a nice lunch with lovely LadyT and even got to meet MrT who stopped in briefly and was equally lovely!

Anyway, I'm shattered as I've been fighting a cold for a couple of days and after a lot of running around I'm in need of an early night (she says at 10pm already!)

Aubergines · 26/01/2010 22:44

Fab news about your scan Rubes. Did your DH see enough to guess the sex???

Beans - I find dried apricots inning kids very fast and both mine love them. Be careful though, my DD1 was once in a similar state to what you describe so I let her eat about 10 dried apricots and the poonami that followed broke over the top of her nappy and dripped onto the floor. Unfortunately we were eating lunch with friends at the time.

Kayzr · 27/01/2010 05:41

Morning,

Rubes Brilliant news about your scan!

Beans Hope DD is better soon. Poor little mite. Orange juice is really good for getting things moving.

Last day of work this week. I really need a day off so I can dose up on medicine and get rid of this bloody sore throat.

Hope everyone is well.

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 27/01/2010 05:52

Awww, Beans, your poor daughter. No advice, only sympathy, I'm afraid.

(Also, I love 'poonami' and am going to steal it).

As for words, I think my daughter is one of the eldest on this thread, and I'm only just starting to get deliberate 'mama' and 'nana' now, and even then I'm not entirely sure it's not just coincidence. She did let out an exasperated 'maMA!' when I was trying to read mumsnet yesterday instead of handing her whatever she was pointing at, so maybe that does count?

Anyway, the rest of you shouldn't be worried!

Veggiemummy · 27/01/2010 08:20

Wow Kayz that's amazing, clearly a genius. I just tried the same DS2, asked him where his ear is and he very confidently grabbed his ear. I think that may be because it hurting from teething.

DS2 had a bad night poor love, he had a temp all night and was unsettled but it fine this morning. DS1 had a similar thing last week up to 38.7 overnight but completely fine during the day. The only sign today is that he has a wet cough.

Beans poor you and poor whizz, all the advice you've gotten sounds good. WG's suggestion sound really helpful until the poor softens just make sure you only put the cotton bud in as far as the bud though. If it doesn't settle it might be that you need to look at excluding some foods. A friends baby had a really bad tummy bug and after it he became temporarily intolerant to dairy and wheat, it was heart breaking to see him so happy one minute and then suddenly in immense pain from doing a poo. He would suddenly drop to ground screaming. I do feel for you. In the end they found it was the intolerences so they excluded them for several months then slowly reintroduced them and he was fine. However, hopefully the dried fruit will do the trick, something else that helps keep the poo soft is pears, you get some really mushy pears and mash them in her breaky.

Bisou · 27/01/2010 08:58

Hi everyone! I haven't been on for sooooooooo long, but just wanted to say a quick hello. Work is crazy busy as per usual, I'm involved in 3 productions at the moment. But hope you're all doing well... oh, and what's this I hear about more babies on the way? Big smooches from Auz, XXX

daisydora · 27/01/2010 09:02

Just a quicky...beans DS also suffers with constipation, in fact yesterday was his first poo for about 4 days. I hate the way they grip to you in such pain. DS has lactulose, but it does take a while to soften things up. OJ does nothing for him, but I know DS is a poor drinker, so i find myself having to syringe fluids into him!

I have heard the vaseline trick, haven't tried it but I might...

Beans33 · 27/01/2010 09:38

Thanks so much everyone - lovely to get such messages of support. Daisy - it does sound very similar to Whizz. It's just horrible. She's also a terrible drinker - just not that interested, but am trying to cram water down her - and also prune or apple juice, I've heard, do the trick.

Will try the dried apricots too, although I did try some and she wasn't interested! Will try again. She's now on cow's milk - do you think that makes a difference? My husband made me give her semi-skimmed with some formula in this morning as thinks whole is too thick for her. I have to say, I disagree as I don't think semi-skimmed has the nutrients. But you never know and I'm willing to try anything at the moment!

Thanks everyone.

xxxx

Beans33 · 27/01/2010 09:45

Oops - just rang health visitor and she said we mustn't give babies semi-skimmed milk. will knock that one on the head straight away!

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 27/01/2010 10:54

Cow's milk is a bit constipating, although I agree with HV, won't make a difference if it's full fat or not. Was she breastfed before? Breastmilk has a bit of natural laxative in it, so the switch can be tough for some babies.

Lots of water and yes, prune juice if she'll drink it, will help.

Beans33 · 27/01/2010 11:14

Thanks tortise - no, she was on formula before - I finished breastfeeding at 7 months, so some time ago.

Thanks for advice. Will give all suggestions a go. Although am a bit nervous of popping a cottonbud up her bum! But will ask the doctor about it at next antenatal appointment!

xx

urbanewarrior · 27/01/2010 11:57

poor little thing beans I hope she feels better soon. there's an ella's kitchen that has prunes in it that's always done the trick with DD. We've got the opposite problem and DD is also vomiting again she's currently asleep next to me and i'm not in work this morning. didn't want to leave her when she was so poorly.

Beans33 · 27/01/2010 12:09

Oh urbane - horrible. Yours is worse because she's actually ill. Whizzer generally ok, just moments of abject misery! I never want to go to work when DD is ill, just couldn't leave her with anyone else - it's when they need their mummies. thinking of you.

x

KiwiPanda · 27/01/2010 16:41

Beans Prune juice or prunes themselves v good. DD doesn't actually suffer from constipation but loves prunes, leading to some rather explosive nappies

Kayzr · 27/01/2010 18:28

Just got back from the GP. DS1 has conjunctivitis, he is feeling very very sorry for himself. He also has the bad cold that DS2 has. Why can't they get ill at different times?

daisydora · 27/01/2010 18:36

beans how is your LO today? I'm going to get some prunes and puree them and mix it in with some natural yogurt (DS loves it!!) Hopefully that will help keep him regular. Tortoise I was told that cows milk can be constipating, but he does seem to like it.

trace Are you lurking? You've not been on for a while and I hope your meeting went okay last week. Am thinking of you

rub Fantastic news about your scan

Things here are pretty much the same. MIL was given morphine for the first time last night/today. She has been in pain for a while now but didn't want to trouble anyone with it. But last night she was in agony. FIL strangely tried to tell DH that the pain might be her arthritis. I on the other hand just burst out crying when DH told me. I had a hectic day at work, and when he told me I realised that she is going to die. It sounds strange but I hadn't really thought much about it, I was just trying to keep DH going. And it really upset me. Oh I do hope I'm not boring you all with all this. Its just writing everything out really helps me get my head sorted.

daisydora · 27/01/2010 18:41

kayz hope the boys aree feeling better soon.

daisydora · 27/01/2010 18:43

oh and bisou hello!!!!!!!!!

Olipop · 27/01/2010 21:34

Hello girls. I don't pop in often but I do like to come and say hello now and again. Hope you are all doing well. Lots of love from Olipop and Heidi x

Veggiemummy · 27/01/2010 21:46

Oh Daisy poor you and your poor MIL. Please don't think any of us find this boring. In fact feeling helpless as I do being over here and not able to do something physical to help, it is nice to know that posting on here and writing it out is helpful to you. You know the basket can take it, in fact the more anyone puts in the stronger it gets.

Nice to see you tortoise.

Hi Bisou, our Sydney meet up is getting closer & closer, this cold weather is really doing me in.

Kayz you've had such a hard time lately are you ok?

Trace are you ok, miss you.

Well it's friends last night here tonight, unfortunately DS2 has had terrible teeth so has been up on my lap most of the evening. But we had a lovely afternoon went and saw the Dutch masters at the Mauritshuis gallery. Was brilliant to wander around a gallery again. I bought a museumkaart there that gives me free access for a year to all the affiliated museums and galleries so that will be nice.

Right I think this boy is finally asleep better go see what Arsenal is up to.

Veggiemummy · 27/01/2010 21:49

Hey Oli lovely to hear from you.

Kayzr · 27/01/2010 21:57

I'm alright Veggie. Just got a cold which is really annoying as I feel like one of us has been ill every week since Xmas. I am really looking forward to my week off work in February. Will be nice to not have to think about the place.

Oli, lovely to hear from you. Hope you are well.

Daisy, don't be silly. Of course you aren't boring us. We're all too happy to listen. Sending you a big hug!!

Kayzr · 27/01/2010 22:06

Oh dear DS1 has just woken up. His poor eye was completely stuck shut. I've had to gently pull it open to be able to clean it.

I have a feeling it could be a long night.

sybilfaulty · 27/01/2010 22:50

OH my love, Daisy, I am so sorry - grief is so odd, the way it bites you on the bum from time to time. I think, too, that it is easy to allow yourself to push your feelings aside when there is someone who is suffering more - here your DH as it's his mother. Please be kind to yourself. Am thinking of you and wishing I could do something to help. Can I make you a cake or some brownies - I could pop them in the post so you'd have them for the weekend? Thinking of you all and sending love.

Veggie, you gorgeous creature, I am sorry your DS2 is not great. Mine is not fab either, 3 huge teeth in his wee mouth, gums bulging and cheeks raging. Hope the football went your way.

Beans, I use those pots of fruit puree to speed things up and try to get the girls to drink more. Apparently it's quite a common thing in wee girls. How is she now? Much better I hope.Sorry your DD is unwell too Lal. Hope she is on the mend now.

Great to see you Oli! And you too Bisou of course. What are you singing at the moment?

Trace, if you are out there I am thinking of you. Hope it is all good with the CPN and psych. Did you say anything to work in the end?

Well hello Rubes, great news on the scan. Am enjoying your pregnancy vicariously. I love babies.

My excitement for the day was a visit to the hygienist. Got chatting (as far as one can with god knows how many things in the mouth) and asked her if she'd done any celebs. We have Jo Brand, James Nesbitt, lots of stage actors and newsreaders round here. SHe saw my local celebs and raised me....wait for it......

KYLIE ! Nearly fell out of the chair! Her latexed fingers and scraper thing had been in the Minogue mouth! Hope her gums were better than mine!

Sleep well everyone. Soothing vibes to all.
